For the better part of my life I've been wrapped up in the UPenn/PennPresby Healthcare System however, the last time I visited the dermatology department at the Perelman Center I spent more time waiting than actually talking to the doctor and left with little more than advice on tweaking my moisturizing routine. That was a few years ago and while my over all skin is much more supple something terrible was happening to my hands. Most likely a combination of caustic hand soaps and inefficient lotions, and with the addition of using much more sanitizer than ever before, my hands were desperately dry, swollen, cracked and itched like you wouldn't believe. I was truly suffering. I decided to see Dr. Nikbaht at Jefferson Dermatology a few weeks ago. She immediately put me on a steroid and also added light therapy which is something I'd never heard of. I go in now three days a week and spend just a few seconds with my hands in the light box. They increase my exposure to the light more each time. I've had three treatments so far and with the cream my hands are dramatically better. Best of all they no longer itch. I am a very happy patient. read more

Went to see Dr. Neda Nikbakht last fall. After a long wait, I had go to the bathroom and get drinking water when Dr. Nikbakht finally came out and said she could see me now. I asked her if it'd be okay if I went to the bathroom really quick first; she looked a bit irritated but let me go. When I came back after two minutes, she was gone, so I just kept on waiting until she came out again. Finally I saw her and she said to follow up after two months if the condition persisted. After two and a half month I messaged her to tell her my condition was still present. It took her 8 days to finally get back to my question. During that time, there was no reply from any nurse, no nothing. She told me to follow up in another month if the condition still had not disappeared. Another month had passed and it has not, so I messaged her again about the follow up. It's been over 3 days and now it's Friday night, meaning I won't hear anything until next week maybe. In my own experience, Dr. Neda Nikbakht is uncaring and can't be bothered and will just leave you in the dark. read more

I've been going here for years. The staff is very nice. Sometimes it's a pain in the ass to schedule a visit, but I'm not waiting an entire year to see someone at Penn that will brush me off or 6 months at those little derm practices where they spend 2 minutes in the room before scurrying away. I've seen a few doctors here. I really liked seeing Dr. Keller, but more recently I've been seeing the nurse practitioners Melissa and Amber. Both are great and I can't recommend them enough. read more

Tried Jeff dermatology for the first time today, was a waste of time and money. The reception desk and process was very smooth, I like the online check in system and it's actually possible to get a derm appointment without scheduling a year in advance, which was nice. Unfortunately the visit itself was useless. The doctor rattled off to me some very generic information, things I'd already read on the internet. She didn't really try to investigate the problem, and didn't offer much to help. Wish I hadn't wasted my time here. read more

Sooo So much to say about this Doctor, nurse and resident at Jeff Derm. I had to remove a pilar cyst from my head on Thursay 7/5/18. (Google it) craziest surgery I ever had. I was petrified! So scared that I rescheduled this procedure 3 times. But when I arrived and got prepped? The doctor (Dr Trufant) was one of the best Doctor's I have ever been around!!! Bedside manner, impeccable to say the least! The nurse Claire was amazing also! Resident came in at the end and she was awesome! Everyone made me feel completely at ease. Explained everything they were doing step by step. We even listened to the music that I enjoyed during the procedure! Was very happy with everything that went down. Thanks Jeff Dermatology! Hopefully, I won't be back but if I do, I am clearly requesting this same crew!!! read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Trufant. I was a new patient. When I arrived they told me he had left for the day. I got no phone call to tell me this. They conveniently set me up with another doctor. When I said I didn't want another doctor, they said "Oh, do you want to reschedule? No apology....nothing. All of my doctors are at Jefferson, but I will not go to Jefferson Dermatology. read more

Unlike many dermatology offices, I did not have a problem getting an appointment or finding some who specializes in my particular problem. The office is new and runs smoothly. I was taken on time but unfortunately because it is a teaching hospital you are seen by a resident first before seeing an attending physician. Nonetheless the attending physician spent plenty of time with me and answered all of our questions. read more

Horrible experience! I would not recommend anyone to go to this dermatologist practice. First, customer service was horrible, staff was having personal conversations at the front desk discussing concerts they attended which I thought was unprofessional. Second, I was brought back into the room only to be forgotten about. I sat in the room for 30 minutes only for the doctor to come in to tell me they had forgotten about me! Third, the doctor was stone cold showed no emotion or concern towards me, she was very cut and dry. Fourth, the doctor sent my prescriptions to the wrong pharmacy, I had to go back to the office to have it corrected. I am so disappointed and disgusted with Jefferson Dermatology I would not recommend this practice to a DOG and guess what I am a Jefferson Employee! Going forward I will pay extra money out of pocket and go to a Penn doctor. read more

When you have red hair and skin so white they hold a light up behind you to xray you, its a good idea to check in with a dermatologist now and then to make sure all is well. I'm a big believer in preventative care, so I popped in to make sure there was nothing worrysome going on with the old hide. Of all the Jefferson departments I've been to (a lot, sadly) this one is the best. I was in the room exactly at my appointed time. Yes, there were plenty of residents popping in and out, but the doctor was also in and spent time reviewing skin care and things I needed to be on the watch for. They were pleasant, they were fast, and they answered all my questions pleasantly. Please Lord, let someone from Jefferson Administration swing by and see how a department should be run. read more

I called for an appointment at Jefferson Dermatology because my Jefferson ob/gyn encouraged me to see someone in dermatology. I've been experiencing hair loss/thinning over the past 8 years that no one has really been able to solve. I had given up on seeing dermatologists for it, but my ob/gyn thought that Jefferson's academic environment would lend itself to "unsolved mysteries". When I called, the scheduler told me nobody at Jefferson focused on hair loss, but in the past, they sent hair loss people to Dr. Lee. I said that would be fine, so she scheduled me with him. It was a pretty decent wait for an appointment- I think in the range of a month or two. On the day of my appointment, I arrived about 15 minutes early. I didn't get called up to do my paperwork until my appointment time, but the lady behind the desk was efficient and nice. They got me back about 10 minutes after my appointment time, then I briefly talked to someone for for about 30 seconds about my reason of being there. I then waited in the room for about another 15 minutes until Dr. Lee came in. He basically told me there was nothing he could do, since female hair loss is not well understood. He did tell me there was another doctor in the practice who was focusing on female hair loss, and he would ask her to review my case, but that she likely wouldn't have anything more to help me either. It's been a few days and I haven't heard anything, so I'm guessing she wasn't interested in taking my case. Dr. Lee seemed very intelligent, efficient, honest, and thorough. However, his blunt academic speak took me back a few times. I didn't mind, however, I imagine if I came from a different background I would have appreciated him wording his thoughts more carefully. Even though I was frustrated that I wasted an expensive co-pay and a morning of my time for nothing, the visit went better than expected- I've seen a lot of condescending, uncaring, un-knowledgeable dermatologists over the past 8 years. If I ever have a dermatology need in the future and I'm still in Philadelphia, I'd definitely return to Jefferson- I trust that Dr. Lee and the other dermatologists know what they are doing. read more

I had a little bump on my back that turned into a big bump, and eventually had to be removed. I walked in for my appointment and was greeted by SUCH a nice staff. So kind and professional. I also was taken back within ten minutes, which lets face it doesn't happen in the medical world. The doctor who did the removal was so sweet, had a great bedside manner, and explained to me exactly what she was doing. It was short and painful. I would NEVER go to another dermatologist after such a great experience here. read more

This office is the worst that I've been to thus far. As a nurse, a Jefferson nurse at that, I would not recommend this office to anyone. Firstly, the front desk receptionist are unprofessional. Whether that be on the phone or in person. While checking in for my outpatient procedure I had a hard time hearing the woman asking me the covid questionnaire in a busy waiting room in addition to wearing a mask; when I told her I was having a hard time understanding what she was saying the receptionist rolled her eyes. Second, it took them months to call me back to even make the outpatient procedure appointment stating that they needed preauthorization from my insurance. And only the office manager can schedule for this particular procedure. As a Jefferson employee using Jefferson health insurance, preauthorization is not needed. Third, my initial consult appointment, procedure appointment and follow up appointment were all cancelled and rescheduled (with only hours of notice). I understand things happen but each appointment I had was rescheduled AND the wait for the appointments were weeks out in advance. My procedure went very well and the actual medical personnel were very professional and attentive (the only reason I didn't give 1 star). Lastly, my follow up and suture removal appointment was cancelled, with only hours notice. The receptionist was insensitive to my work schedule and told me that it's up to me to clear my schedule to come in. I had already cleared my schedule for this appointment, why should I be have to rearrange my work schedule again? I ended up having to remove the sutures from home myself. It's been 2 months and I have yet to hear back from the office in regards to my follow up appointment. I received the invoice for my procedure and they charged my insurance company for suture removal. I'll be calling Aetna in the morning to discuss this fraudulent charge. Would not recommend this office. Go to PENN Dermatology, it's worth the wait. read more

I had 3 appts w/Dr Del Rosario, I saw her 2x..she was excellent! I will NOT be going back. First off, they gave me an appt w/a male dr who I did not want. Yesterday I tried 3x to cancel appt..NO ONE RETURNS PHONE CALLS. Called JEFF NOW, they told me someone will call me back..they didn't I liked the dr, but one of the the worse offices in center city. I will probably drop off a note directly to the dr in person cancelling. That might be the only way I can be sure the dr will get it. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Bahar Dasgeb. First of all, I waited close to 40 minutes before I was finally seated in a room. I then waited another 10-15 minutes before the doctor actually came into the room. Nobody apologized for the delays. Second of all, when she came in, she did not even greet me. She barely even looked at me. She didn't ask me any questions about myself, my lifestyle, or help me figure out what my stressors were. I had given her a list of my prior medications (the list is 3 years old). She came in with a pre-determined idea of what to prescribe me based on that old list without ever really looking at my skin. My prior experience with dermatologists is that they examine your skin closely (most of the time under a magnifying glass) to see what specific issues you are experiencing. She did not do any of that. Most of all, she was rude AF. She spoke with an extremely condescending tone and her attitude was awful. It seemed like she was scolding or reprimanding me as she was talking to me. If I were a few years younger, I probably would've bursted out crying just because her tone was so patronizing. She was acting very impatient and was rushing me the entire time--I wasn't able to ask some of the questions I planned to ask because I felt she was in a hurry to leave. I know my appointment was made on the day of, but if she was so displeased about that, then she should've told the front desk secretary to not schedule these kind of last-minute appointments. I would've gladly come in another day or gladly have seen another doctor that day--but DON'T have me wait an hour and then rush through my appointment. I don't know how long she's been working there, but she didn't even know her own office provided certain acne treatments (e.g. laser, dermabrasion), as advertised on their website. I've had great experiences with other departments at Jefferson, but in terms of the Dermatology department, this was overall a really bad experience. I expected to be treated with respect and to have a doctor who could show me some sympathy and understanding. I did not get any of that. She told me to see her again in 3 months but No--I'm not giving her any more of my money to waste another hour of my life. If you have a choice, don't see Bahar Dasgeb. read more

I just had my first appointment here. It went really well and the doctor I saw knew more than any other dermatologist I have ever been to! After I was brought back I think I was in the room no longer than 15 minutes. I just turned 30 and I need to start being more involved in taking care of myself since I have blonde hair and really fair skin. she noticed little things that I never picked up on and was very comforting to know that she is a rock star! The office was very organized and friendly during my visit. My appointment was at 7:15am and I will definitely continue going to morning appointments but most importantly I will be back there for my annual check-up. read more

Went to Jeff-Derm this morning after finding out there was a 5-mo wait for appts at Penn! I had an 8am appt with Dr. Dasgib...so, here's the review: Front desk staff: super friendly and nice. Time: I was brought back at 8:04am and was checking out before 9am. I think that's about as good as it can get. There was a little bit of a wait between seeing resident and seeing Dr. D. Bedside manner: both the resident and Dr. D were super friendly, professional, and made sure to ask if I had any questions and seemed to be knowledgeable/competent in the areas I'd expect. I didn't feel rushed at all- on the contrary, I felt like they took all the time to talk to me about any concerns I had, as well as what had brought me to Philly. :) Checkout: Quick and again, super friendly staff. I really couldn't have asked for a better experience this morning. Obviously, not sure about timeliness if you have an appointment later in the day (when things tend to stack up)- but my early morning experience was perfect. read more

I recently moved to the Philadelphia area and needed refills of my rosacea medications. Somehow, I was able to get a new patient appointment with Dr. Yang within 2 days of calling. Overall, I was very pleased with my appointment. I was in and out of the office in 20 minutes, but she managed to address all my concerns and didn't make me feel rushed. She also offered some new treatment suggestions rather than just scribbling refills for the medications my old dermatologist had prescribed (which weren't working that well anyway). Plus, it's an academic practice so I didn't feel like people were trying to upsell me a bunch of unnecessary cosmetic stuff. Pros: clean office, center city location, friendly staff, multiple providers Cons: front desk seemed short staffed, resident physician sees you first so you have to go through your story and exam twice, no free parking. Did you know that the Urology department at Jefferson is the oldest in the country? I came here for my annual grope and poke. The Doctor was very helpful in going over the results with me and put me at ease with his explanations. Just about every guy hates this necessary check but you could do far worse than Jefferson Urology. read more

Considering this is a teaching facility, I expected more interaction with the resident than the actual MD. After the resident evaulating my she confirmed with Dr. Li and he then advised my medication and the proceedure for a skin tag removal. The wait time was quick about 5-10 mins I was in evaluated treated within 30 mins upon arrival. very good experience. read more

Worst doctor's office I've ever been to. The front desk and residents are very nice but the doctor came in took one look at me and then walked out at every appointment. She dismissed all of my concerns, did not seem to care at all, and told me not to worry. They also always deny my pharmacy's requests for prescription refills for no reason, even though I had been in for a check up, which results in me having to call the office and find someone who can help me. I got a 2nd opinion which was a lot more helpful and switched to a different dermatologist. read more

I am a an ongoing saga of allergies and skin ailments. Jefferson Dermatology is my savior! I have been to several other derms over the years with little help, and frankly a bit of unwanted attitude, but Jefferson is nothing like that. They listen! They've now treated me for chronic eczema and a random contact dermatitis, both with super fast results. I was able to get in for a new patient visit within two weeks, then for an emergency within one day. The staff is professional, nice and just seem to know their stuff. My life will never be without some stupid skin issue, but knowing I have the dermatology team at Jefferson definitely eases my stress just a little. read more

I've been twice. The first time, the doc ran the show because the residents weren't real familiar with the issue. The second time I went, the resident was most involved, but she was EXCELLENT and took so much time to explain things. I actually don't mind the "doctor" (they are all doctors, really) taking the backseat because while I feel rushed with Drs and don't ask questions, I feel very comfortable taking up the residents' time. :) This is worth noting - last time I went, I arrived, was in, and out of my appointment in 35 minutes (less than 5 minutes wait time total) -- they were so on the ball!! read more

I went for a check up on my acne and she acknowledged that she was more of a cancer doctor and a suggested antibiotics. read more

More than 30 min later he had to go in hall way in a gown to flag down somebody who ultimately told him Tran was a no show today. Wasn't anybody going to manage Tran's appointments? I have been going to this practice for several years and I am very satisfied. Dr. Matthew Keller has treated me and others in my family. Whether the problem is major or minor, he pays full attention to detail, explains exactly what the problem is, and takes care of it in a painless and pleasant manner. He has a lot of medical knowledge, knows about other ailments that might be related to skin, and answers my questions in complete and understandable detail. Other doctors assist but I never get the same one twice. On occasion I needed an urgent appointment and could not wait for Dr. Keller to be available and I was very satisfied with the other doctors who treated me - with their diagnosis, treatment, and professional manner. read more

So I had to suggest that they actually photograph and measure the problem area since that would help us actually determine if their treatment was progressing right. They were really surprised at how great of an idea that was... a little too surprised for my tastes (this brilliant idea was something my previous derma had done..) The entire experience was awful. I do not recommend Jefferson. I never had to go to the dermatologist before, but had two red marks on my face that would not go away...so I scheduled an appointment with Jefferson. I was told to get there 10-15 minutes early, I was fine with that. I arrived at 12:45 for a 1:10 appt. 1:45 ...I asked the woman behind the desk if I could be waited on. She asked if I checked in on their computer, I said yes, (the computer told me to take a seat) So she finally waited on me. (They were not even busy , I was the only one left in the waiting room) Then 30 minutes later...I wanted to ask for my money back because I was getting really frustrated and really needed to get back to work.... Finally, I was asked to come to the next waiting room....I then sat for another 15 minutes before I went out of the room to find someone to wait on me. I heard a ton of people in the hallway laughing and whatnot. I told them that i really need to get back to work and that I've already been waiting for over an hour. They pushed me back in the room and said they were extremely busy and that they'd get to me. The doctor finally came to see me ...they had no idea what was on my face. He looked at me for a minute and sent me on my way. On the way out I had to "check-out" and the woman behind the counter asked if I was in the computer system? I'm like yes, but how would I know...you are the one behind the computer and are looking at my paperwork the dr. just handed you... It just sucks that I paid $50 for nothing and wasted hours waiting. read more

They are literally running a shoddy conveyor belt of patients. I just left and told them I was never coming back. This was my second appointment with Dr. Yang and third appointment overall. I arrived at 2:15 for my 2:30 appointment. I promptly signed in. They called me to check in at 2:30. At 3pm I asked what the hold up was and the lady at the desk assured me I would be next. The entire waiting room had turned over by now. At 3:15, they called someone else. I demanded my co pay back and left. This is the SECOND time this has happened. Last time I was there I also had to wait an hour. This is inexcusable. I will never return. read more

I had been to Jeff years ago for Mohs Surgery and was very pleased. I live at the Jersey Shore so Philly is an hour trip but very happy to go there. My Derm at the shore recommended I go to Jeff for an unusual problem. I saw Dr. Trufant, my first visit with him. He took the time, explained everything, was delightful to talk to and actually showed a lot of concern. He later called to check on me, gathered all my info from the other Docs and went over it. Then called me again to discuss. He just called me again to go over more information, make suggestions and see how I was doing. This is very rare today. I look for Docs who threat the whole patient. My mind and feelings as well as my body. Dr. Trufant and the staff at Jeff do that for me. will make the trip anytime. read more

I submitted a message to my doctor on 6/8/18 for him to fill out a portion of an application that would allow me to apply for free medication for two years until my pharmaceutical providers "denial" of coverage is appealed and approved. This is a simple application that needs to be sent to "Cosentyx" along with my "denial" of coverage from my provider. What should have only taken 10 minutes has taken them two weeks. I have had to call them on numerous occasions notifying them that they need to accurately complete the application before sending it to Cosentyx but each time it was done incorrectly. All they had to do was send my "Denial Letter" and select which medication dosage I would be prescribed with the vehicle I would use to inject it but they failed to do the simplest of tasks 4 times. Cosentyx sent them a service request on 6/12, 6/14, 6/18 and 6/19. The first time I called I was told that they never received the fax containing the service request. The second time I ended up speaking to someone pretending to be someone that I knew, informing me that they would be fixing the issue with the application and would be faxing it over immediately. The third time I called, I left a message and never received a callback. I followed up the next day and can't get anyone on the phone. I can only assume that this office has no interest in doing extra paperwork and has no motivation to go through the appeal process, and I can only assume that the incentives to my doctor from Humira probably has a little something to do with it as well. Before my doctor even discussed my options he immediately sent in an application for me to be prescribed Humira. I received my Cosentyx letter of denial the same day that I received my pre-approval for Humira so I can't help but come to conclusions. My psoriasis has flared up at this point because it has been so long since I have received phototherapy that my disease has now spread to my scalp. The steroid creams that were prescribed to me aren't working anymore and once my application is received by Cosentyx it will take another week for them to process my application. Even if they do eventually rectify this situation, can I trust them to actually complete the appeal to my provider? If the appeal process isn't completed once a year I will lose coverage and will not be able to partake in the "Cosentyx: Covered until your Covered" program for the full two years. Would I be setting myself up to take this new medication to only have to go through this process again in another year and end up having laps in my coverage? On my last call, I decided to get in touch with the medical records department where I was yelled at by their representative about how they don't use email to discuss medical records because she didn't seem to understand that I was referring to Jefferson's own message and account management portal and I was only interested in my providers "Denial Letter" not actual medical records. This women then forwarded me to their Patient and Experience department where the women talked over me before I could explain my situation and then proceeded to patronize me about how I can't file a complaint with her and I would have to take it up with that department. I was on the brink of tears speaking to this women and I received no empathy and no understanding. Maybe I was calling the Dermatology Associates office too much, maybe they think I'm high maintenance...I'm sure I had a part to play in this situation but all of this could have been easily prevented... this entire process could have been really simple... and my situation isn't getting any better. I will be looking for a doctor elsewhere and will not be visiting this office again. read more
