Last September our first little baby girl was born in the Birthing Center across the street from…read morethe main hospital. I'm writing to tell you that the rooms, staff and midwives are top notch. They made my wife and I very comfortable (well as comfortable as you can get giving birth). I would recommend to everyone that if your having a baby to check out the birth suites with their homey interiors. Give birth on the bed, standing, sitting in a chair, wrapped around a ball, in a hot tub... it's up to you! The only problem is that they usually don't have a weekend nurse on duty and so close the birth center if that happens. So if you end up going into labor on the weekend you have to go to the regular hospital, which is not at all nice. There is a big difference in the quality of nurses from one side of Spruce street to the other.

Unfortunately I had a serious traffic accident on December 26th. As a consequence of this accident…read moreI had a painful chest, and a swollen right wrist and leg. Pennsylvania Hospital was the place were I was taken. The emergency room seemed quiet for most of the evening. They called me twice up front for triage and registration. After about two and a half hours, I was taken to the back where patients are seen. The only person that actually spoke to me was the nice cleaning lady that had just prepared the room for us. I laid in bed for another two and a half hours, during that time I had the pleasure of hearing all the personnel of the hospital telling each other about their holiday experiences and gifts. Funny enough, in the room next to mine there was a woman wailing for hours and when I say wailing I mean that the loud painful and desperate screams could not be ignored by anyone in a two mile radius. No one assisted her for the first two hours I was there. The privacy in this hospital is not great. I can tell you that the woman was suffering from colon cancer, that she recently had a surgery to remove most of it. That they had found metastasis in other organs. She also was diabetic since age 40. She suffered from high blood pressure and was placed on an anticoagulant other that Coumadin since she did not tolerate that one. She was there because of the pain and excess bleeding she suffered. It took the hospital staff at least TWO HOURS that I know of to see this woman. The limit for me was close to six hours, when after listening to the poor woman with whom I strongly sympathized, and with my chest pain fortunately dwindling away from me, I decided to go to the desk and inform them that I was checking myself out. Yes!!!! I have had it. Either way if my chest pain was of any consequence I would have been already screwed. Since no person that worked at this facility including the unpleasant triage nurse took the time to auscultate my chest. I ripped the stupid id tags that they had placed on me and walked right out. I made sure to tell them that they were not to send me a bill since nobody did anything for me. The mousy woman at the desk apologized and agreed that no bill should be sent. To my delight as I walked into the emergency waiting room, where one of my friends was waiting, there was an emergency medical personnel cheering on a sports game. TO ALL INDIVIDUALS THAT EVER SUFFER AN INJURY OR JUST DO NOT FEEL WELL AND NEED EMERGENCY CARE AVOID THIS FACILITY AT ALL COST.
