Power goes out over the smallest things. You can look at the pole wrong and suddenly the power is out. It also takes hours to come back on. Service is extremely slow but if you're even an hour late in paying that bill you best bet they'll be turning it off promptly, with a 500 dollar charge to turn it back on. read more

I am NOT in San Franciso, BTW. No matter what this site says. I'm in Dearing. This company does not deserve the One Star rating required to write a review. JEC is a price-gouging company that takes advantage of its monopoly status to take advantage of its customers. If JEC denies this, explain why my July bill was almost 30% higher for that month when my family and I were out of the state for 3 weeks. JEC will not listen to customer concerns, even those who have paid thousands of dollars over the years. I pay my bill well before the due date. I've never been late and never missed a payment. I used JEC's third party website to make payment last month. The site reverted, for some reason, to an old payment account from a bank I no longer have. That is, the account doesn't exist. It's dead and has been dead for over a year. I submitted payment and immediately realized the mistake and went to correct it. There is no option to cancel or alter a payment on the site. Knowing I still owed them $706 for my monthly (let that sink in), I paid them from my actual, extant account. They accepted that payment. I then received an e-mail and a letter from JEC, stating that I owed a $30 returned check fee and that if I bounce checks with them again, they won't accept draft payment. I called JEC twice and spoke to three people, including a manager (who claimed to be powerless to do anything) in order to explain that there was a mistake in payment. I wasn't just writing bad checks. I wasn't some irresponsible scrub. Rather, the site defaulted to a non-existent account, and I immediately rectified the error. I asked if this $30 returned check fee could be removed (I still don't see how there could be a return fee on an account that DOES NOT EXIST). I was met with an emphatic, "No". They would not remove it. They treat customers like garbage. Even responsible ones who pay on time. And they WILL NOT consider mitigating circumstances. JEC's monopoly should be broken up. read more

This company is TERRIBLE. The discrimination is outrageous between Columbia and Richmond county and it trickles down to even electricity. If you do not pay your bill within 4 days your power will be disconnected and a fee charged to reconnect. I was charged 100 for an "after hours reconnection fee" & all they had to do was press a button to restore my power. Why was that 100? When my bill itself was less than 95. I never went through this in Columbia county. This company preys on low income families and gets rich off of unfair, unethical policies. DO NOT BUY A HOME IN AN AREA IF THIS IS THE ELECTRIC COMPANY YOU HAVE TO USE!!!! read more

They are the most expensive electricity company we've ever had. Signing up required a personal visit to their office; so, they're not very up to date in technology. During Irma related power outages, the only update was that outages were widespread. GA Power customers could access outage maps and updates online. I hope they are bought out and the dead wood removed from their ranks. read more

If I could give Jefferson Energy less than one star I would. I have pre paid electric in which I add money to the account and my home uses electricity out of that account until it reaches a preset limit ($50), and at that time Jefferson energy is supposed to contact me and let me know that my account is low andI need to add some money. Jefferson Electric has not notified me on five occasions that my power was about to be turned off and I have had to pay a $25 reconnect fee each time. This is an ongoing nightmare that started before I had pre pay. If you are considering buying a home in their district you may want to reconsider. read more

I have had the misfortune of having this electricity service provider for over 22 years, and they are terrible. If you EVER are even 1 day late they send you a delinquent notice. I usually pay them early, but I'd been sick and what do I receive the day after my due date? Yep, you guessed it...a delinquent notice on the 27th for a payment that was due on the 26th! They also informed me that I was scheduled for disconnection for the 5th of the next month! They don't waste anytime reminding you that they don't value you or your business, because you have no other options, so they don't have to appreciate you. I have never been late or delinquent either. If you are looking for an area to live in, make sure you avoid areas that Jefferson Energy provides electricity to. Do your homework! Avoid this company at all cost and you will not regret it. read more
