We were told the surgery went well, though we later received inconsistent explanations from the surgical team. She was initially lucid after surgery but became increasingly delirious the next day. When I raised concerns, I was told it was Alzheimer's -- despite no prior history of dementia. Meanwhile, nursing staff mentioned plans to move her to rehab even as her mental status worsened. A nurse told my sister she did not know how to use the bed alarm monitor. That same day, my mother suffered an unwitnessed fall and was found on the floor. She had obstructive sleep apnea and brought her CPAP machine, which was marked as required on her bracelet. It was never used. Early the following morning, she went into cardiac arrest. The medical record notes that an initial attempt to defibrillate ventricular fibrillation was made, but the defibrillator malfunctioned. Although circulation was eventually restored, she suffered catastrophic hypoxic brain injury. We were told she was between a vegetative state and brain death, and we made the decision to withdraw life support. We understand that not every outcome is preventable. What has stayed with us is the repeated dismissal of concerns and apparent lapses in basic safeguards. We entrusted Norton with her care. I would not recommend other families do the same. Based on the other reviews here, it seems that we are not alone in our experience.

Overall, it was a good experience, from Sunday through Thursday, the nursing staff were caring, receptive to my needs and professional. I had a partial hip replacement on Monday and my arm put in a sling until a followup appointment with a shoulder doctor. I saw the surgeon on Sunday for about 3 minutes and for about 30 seconds prior to the surgery and his PA came into my room on Tuesday. Beyond that I never saw anyone from their office and have a follow up appointment 4 weeks from surgery for my hip. I was disappointed there was not more contact with the hip doctor and no contact with shoulder doc. Food was hospital food, nothing special. Cleaning staff came in daily as did occupational and physical therapy. All therapist were exceptional. As was the mobility assistant who helped we walk the halls daily. Parking pass was provided to my husband which was nice for free parking in the hospital garage. I was discharged on my 6th day and I was highly disappointed in my nursing care that day, non-responsive nurse, I asked for a suppository at 8.30 and twice more and didn't receive it until almost noon. I was not aware I was being discharged until the pharmacy came to deliver the my take-home meds. Nursing assistant asked if I wanted a bath in the morning and never came back to assist me with that. Discharge was disjointed and confusing.

Problem became worse, so family doctor sent to Norton Leatherman Spine clinic. First visit lasted maybe 10 minutes, advised they were ordering an MRI. Nine days later I still hadn't heard anything (had left 3 messages at office). Finally, the nurse practitioner's assistant, called with two options. She couldn't answer any of my questions only went by her script. I messaged the nurse practitioner with my question, no response. I complained to my doctor, low and behold later in morning, nurse practitioner sent a terse response, "bla-bla has nothing to do with problem". Still had not heard from a pain center they supposedly contacted on my behalf. Long & short - very noncaring visit, after visit, follow up, resolving patient problem. Terrible Experience!!!

I guess cause he's now only surgery, so I have to see if it's surgery related first. I don't mind NP's, so don't think I'm upset about that, but the Nurse Practitioner they sent me to was extremely nonchalant, made me feel dumb when I was stressed or had questions. Literally said "these questions aren't really gonna solve anything." Which may be true, but damn, just be a little more sympathetic. And then when we made a decision to get a referral for pain management RATHER than physical therapy, I got a call for PT and not pain management. When I called to get this rectified the nurse who answered told me she didn't know where my NP put in the referral and now it was my job to figure out where I wanted to go and call around to see who took my information and THEN call her back with that information and they would send a referral. When I asked if she could just ask the NP where she put the referral because I'm a full time student and full time third shift worker and don't even know where to start looking for all that information she responded with "she might not remember, she didn't put it in the chart. So I can ask her but if she doesn't remember we're gonna go down this route I just laid out." I was baffled, I said "okay" she said "okay" and then hung up. Didn't even say goodbye. So I instantly called my friend who works at UofL and she helped me set up an appointment there.

I called to book a deep tissue massage for 50 minutes, with the massage you can use the pool and facilities before or after your treatment. The spa has a very relaxing vibe and was very comfortable. I arrived about 30 minutes before my appointment. I had a short wait since there was only one person at the front desk and there were helping other clients at the time. When it was my turn, I was warmly greeted and given a tour of the facility. The changing rooms are right off the main lobby area, and I was guided around the area and advised on what was available to use. I decided to change and then head to the relaxation room to await my massage. The room had flavored water and hot tea available, as well as a few packaged snacks. There were several Lounge chairs available with sheer curtains to provide some privacy. My massage therapist arrived right around my massage time and took me to my room. She was very nice and explained the process and asked if I had any areas of concern. Unfortunately the massage wasn't great, I had opted for a deep tissue massage, but not a lot of pressure was used. She also never checked in with me during the massage and it ended a bit early. The facility is beautiful and next time I will try a facial or another service since I loved the atmosphere so much.
