Thank you Dr. Coe for being my surgeon. What a journey it's been and I'm glad you were at my side. My chiropractor recommended you after I'd been suffering from chronic sciatic pain, shooting electric debilitating pain for three months. When we met to discuss my Xray, you identified multiple irregularities and zeroed in on the real problem educating me on my condition and options. Since the appropriate surgery was a complicated procedure Xlif or Alif, you cautiously guided me to consider therapies first to see if we could alleviate the problem without surgery. The diagnosis was Spondylolisthesis, caused by degeneration. OrthoNorCal provided a complete suite of options, drug therapies, PT, epidurals, follow up appointments. After months of getting some relief but unable to return to the physical activities I loved, I called Dr. Coe and asked for another surgery consultation. He spent as much time as I needed discussing exactly what the surgery would entail and the outcome I could expect. As always he was most concerned that I was making the right decision for me, giving me the medical information in terms I could understand so that I made the decision. Once I decided, his pre-surgery protocol was thorough making sure I understood every decision I was making. I was terrified of back surgery. My surgery was a big success. Dr. Coe gave me a reassuring nod when our eyes met in the operating room before I was put under. He met my husband in the waiting room with his report and then visited my bedside as soon as I recovered from the anesthesia to show me the operating room photos of my spine. Check-out day, he personally came to my bedside to process the release and sat with me and my family taking his time with us answering all our questions. "I found Dr. Coe after extensively searching for someone who specialized in the spine. I had been living with sciatica and back pain for almost two years and it eventually had me leaning to the left and my torso was twisted. I could not walk my dog for 2 blocks without extreme burning and numbing scensation in my legs and feet. I could not even stand upright to cook. Upon my first visit with Dr. Coe, he looked at my MRI and immediately identified my issue. I had a misaligned and compressed disc. With that, he started me out with Dr. Molumphy for transforaminal injections which helped my right side but not all of my symptoms were addressed on my left side. I ended up having surgery in March 2022. Dr. Coe removed the damaged disc and inserted a synthetic one along with support rods for stability. From the first visit to his office, until my last visit in September, his staff; Melissa and Derek, were extremely helpful and courteous. After an unsuccessful 6 hour neck surgery, the symptoms which prompted the procedure with Dr. Coe stating would be eliminated still exist now four months post surgery. Prior to the procedure he was advised of my history of pulmonary emboli. Three weeks post surgery I was at the ER and then into the ICU with multiple emboli in my lungs. Doctors said i was fortunate to be alive. Don't accept guesses. Find another doctor who listens. Find another doctor who takes your history into consideration. Find another doctor....... read more

Dr. Coe is in a class of his own. As a professional athlete I have visited with many doctors over the years and unfortunately had a career ending injury which led me to Dr. Coe. At the time of my nerve damage in my neck it wasn't 100% sure whether my career would be over. The hope of his surgery helping get me back to competition had me excited to work with him. I may have been too eager to get the surgery and Dr. Coe made sure to give the injury a chance to heal on it's own. At the time I was impatient but in hindsight respect him for putting my health before his profit. He could have easily scheduled the surgery without trying to avoid it altogether. I have been struggling with excruciating back pain for 5 yrs. I tried everything. Physical Therapy, Aqua Therapy, Meditation and the whole wellness approach. I even did a Pain Management 5 week class that was 7 hrs a day 5 days a week that included Mediation, Pshycology, Tai Chi, Art Therapy, Physical Therapy that taught me my limitations. All it taught me was that I have pain, medication isn't the answer and once I accept it I will live a better life in my "chronic pain" cycle. That was all a bunch of malarkey! Bad back surgeries give back surgery a bad rap! Dr. Coe taught me that. Do your research and never give up!!! While I lived my chronic pain path, I met many people who had back surgeries and as it turned out, all the good successful back surgeries happened to be done by Dr. Coe! Yes... believe it! He is a skilled surgeon. I even had my friend who works with all the surgeons in the area ask about Dr. Coe and what the other surgeons thought about him. They all said he is an excellent surgeon! How could anyone go wrong with him? He's honest and will not treat you if he thinks he can't help you. As a matter of fact, he will not evaluate my neck until my low back has healed enough. I'm 6 wks post operative and I cry everyday for the past 3 wks realizing that the pain is gone. Dr. Coe is the best at the procedure he did on me. He went in through my side and avoided my nerves. It's called extreme lateral approach. Its nothing like they did in the old days. My fiancee father is an anesthesiologist in So Cal and he was concerned and asked if I could live with the pain asked me to consider no surgery. He said its an extremely hard surgery and he has seen them go bad. Well lucky for me, Dr. Coe teaches this technique! I didn't go to Dr. Coe to make him my friend... I wanted him to be my surgeon! I'm shocked to read some of these bad reviews. Its too bad that it can deter people living in pain to pass up the opportunity of having the privilege of an excellent surgeon who cares about doing a good job. He knows the information he needs and he will direct you to answer yes or no. You have to remember he has seen thousands of people and has heard all the stories. I could go on and on but I'll keep it relatively simple. Serious spinal injury (sport-related): opted to participate in a clinical trial performed by Dr. Coe. TERRRRRIBLE idea. Considering this was my first surgery, I wish I would have known to get multiple opinions before committing to a surgical procedure. Two years later, it has been deemed as an unsuccessful surgery and I'm in more pain now than I was before. I'm treated like a drug addict and he doesn't want to prescribe medication but.... why exactly am I need of medication...? Because the surgery wasn't successful and "it's possible the operation should have been conducted at a different level...?" But I digress. I did not feel cared for post-surgery and this experience was honestly a nightmare. I had the surgery in my early twenties and it has limited my lifestyle in so many ways. I don't believe he took the time (or even cared) to consider a procedure that was right for my condition (not to mention I had primary and secondary insurance coverage so I was NOT in a position where a clinical study was the only option). I want to start by saying, I'm always very friendly and cordial with people I meet, especially if they are providing me with a service. I came to Dr Coe with neck pain and my 2 year medical history from Kaiser. Every question he asked me, he would talk over me, moving on to the next question. He rushed through every protocol, then makes a diagnosis. He says, we need to schedule you an MRI, then leaves the room and doesn't return. No goodbye, and no chance for me to ask any questions. His staff comes in with the MRI paperwork, then send me on my way. My next appointment was to review my MRI. Dr. Coe said, I have a disk herniation in my C5/C6 and recommends surgery. He proceeds to show me the MRI results, then mentions, he would preform the surgery from the back of my neck, then after a pause, says, actually.... I would come in from the front of the neck. Just what I want, an indecisive surgeon. I scheduled the surgery, but planned on getting a second opinion. After doing so, I learned the first plan of action should be an epidural, to see if relief is possible, followed by additional physical therapy when the pain subsides. Surgery should be a last option. I read the notes Dr. Coe made regarding his findings during my appointment. His notes say, I have reached maximum benefit from my 2 years of physical therapy, and recommends surgery. He didn't even look at my 2 year medical history. I had only been doing physical therapy on my neck for 6 weeks. I had been doing physical therapy for my shoulder, intermittently, for over a year. On top of everything, I emailed Dr. Coe, telling him the Motrin that my primary physician prescribed me, was upsetting my stomach and to please advise me on what to do. He never returned my email. Dr. Coe is by far the worst doctor I have ever come in contact with. read more

Dr. Coe has completely changed my life - he is amazing and I totally adore him! He came highly recommended to me by several other doctors. The spinal fusion surgery he performed was a miracle cure. I woke up in recovery after the surgery and pain was gone! I can't say enough great things about Dr. Coe, I am in awe of what he does and my family and I will be eternally grateful to him for freeing me of horrific pain and giving me my life back. I understand how scary it is to be faced with the prospect of someone drilling into your spine. At my first appointment, Dr. Coe was very blunt and honest about my diagnosis and treatment options, but in hindsight I can totally appreciate this. There is no way to sugar coat this condition and explain about fusion surgery. He was very clear, and I left with a detailed understanding of my condition. I find Dr. Coe to be extremely professional, he always takes as much time as I need to clearly explain my condition and treatment, and answer any questions I have. When I had issues with my insurance company he personally got on the phone and sorted everything out with them. Details about my surgery were clear, and expectations for my recovery were realistic. Dr. Coe is always smiling and happy to see me, and is very friendly and patient with my kids when I have to drag them into his office with me. He remembers personal details about my life, and always treats me with warmth and respect and a big smile. I find his bedside manner to be charming and funny. For the record, I did shop around and got a couple of other opinions from different spinal surgeons and a neurologist. They all agreed on the diagnosis, and told me the same thing as Dr. Coe, that at some point in the future surgery would be my only option. However, Dr Coe never at any time pressured me into the surgery. He was fully supportive of me doing cortisone shots, physical therapy and accupuncture and assured me that he would help no matter what course I decided. So I put off surgery for one year, but I always knew that my disc was on borrowed time. At the end of last year in 2011 the pain had become unbearable, and the x-rays showed clearly that the disc had completely ruptured. Even the radiologist who did the x-rays was shocked when she saw how damaged my spine was - the L4 was slipping about 14.5mm over the L5 and the disc was crushed. Before the surgery my life was unbearable, I was living with chronic sciatic nerve pain starting with stabbing in my back, and shooting pain in my left groin and hip, and all the way down my leg to my foot. The MRI and x-rays showed a very obvious genetic defect, basically I had a piece of bone missing in my spine between the L4 and L5. I was popping so many pills including heavy duty narcotics and could barely function, let alone take care of my family. It was lucky if I got 2 hours of sleep per night. In 2017 after almost 29 years of suffering with back and leg pain due to a car accident in which I was hit by a drunk driver, I was referred to Dr. Jeffrey D. Coe, by my primary, who is also a heart surgeon and who is another incredible Stanford Doc. I had no idea this referral would drastically improve my quality of life. I had no reference to what 'normal' or 'pain free' would feel like. Now, I am a walking testament to the orthopedic surgeon who stands behind his good name, Dr. Jeffrey D. Coe. For three quarters of my life, my back and legs had increasing and sometimes debilitating, radiating pain, spasms, muscle cramps, decreased feeling and mobility and from the diaphragm down, temporary loss of the use of my legs and my mobility. During a sneeze, I had to double up into the fetal position or sit down so I did not fall down. For 20+ years, I plowed through huge tubs of ibuprofen and doctors could not figure out why I was hurting. I was young. I had to retrain for work because I could no longer work as a Cosmetologist/stylist. I was prescribed Tramadol in 2005 and it gave me 6 to 8 hours of relief every day so I could work in the field of O.T. where I could be more active and move around during the day. My life in my 30's was only work. I had no energy for anything else because the pain sucked the life out of me. My social life suffered because I did not have the energy to put on the happy face to my friends and family and I avoided being around them. I did repeat physical therapy, I stayed healthy, I researched every anti inflammatory and every alkalizing diet possible, I tried acupuncture, yoga and I had cortisone shots which were only short lived...Nothing was working. No doctor took me seriously because I looked healthy and I refused to give in. In 2008, I woke up one morning and could not turn over. I had parasthesia from the diaphragm down and could not bear weight on my legs. I was yelled at by the ER doctor who implied that I was med seeking. I had NOT asked for medicine, I had said this to the EMTs who brought me in. I was not in pain that day, I just could not feel my legs. I was in the most incredible shape of my life but I could not stand up. This was humiliating. Every morning, I had to get up 2 hours earlier to prepare to achieve resemblance of an able bodied person. Daily I hit the wall at 2:00 PM and fought sleep on the drive home from the life being sucked out of me by the pain. In October of 2017, I was transferring a patient at work and I felt a jolt of lightning go through my spine. I felt as though I was being torn in half. My scream was an inhale. I could not stand up. In December, it happened again and my boss drove me across the street in a wheelchair for an MRI, loudly joking that I had ruined Christmas this year! (She was saying this in jest. Two therapists now were out, needing surgery, coincidentally both done by Dr. Coe) Dr. Coe started the 6 month process of diagnostics to ensure he would fuse the more debilitating vertebrae. He had two choices. He was precise and scientific. I knew that if someone was going to be operating on my spine, it HAD to be him. I tried more injections, more acupuncture in his office and had some pretty reactive results. Still, nothing was relieving my symptoms. Surgery was scheduled for June 1, 2017 with Fusion with instrumentation ie:" The cage." Post surgery, ice was the key to my happiness! I finally got to read all 7 Harry Potter books but this got old fast. I work in Occupational Therapy and it was very difficult for me to be on THAT side of the bed. I am the therapist, not the patient! Dr. Coe and his PA, Melissa kept a tight eye on me throughout my recovery. They listened to every concern and kept me straight with the medications. A year and 3 months later, I am ecstatic to report that I have decreased my Tramadol intake from 6 or 8 per day (11 years of this) to now, 2 or sometimes 3 per day. I take gabapentin which is a lifesaver. Even though I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis by a rheumatologist during the same year, I am living the life I never dreamed I could have! I am up early with a clear head, I can jump right out of bed, go to work and I have plenty of energy left for socializing and working out, hiking, biking, kayaking, walking and playing with my two dogs and just about anything I want to do well into the night. I can sleep through the night which I do not even recall ever doing after age 17. Anything is now possible because of the skilled hands and precision critical planning by Dr. Jeffrey Coe. If I needed to do it all again tomorrow, I would. It is very clear to me that Dr. Coe is an expert and that I was in good hands the whole time. Dr. Coe is wonderful! Most doctors seem to be in a hurry. Dr. Coe came into the room and took his time to get to know me. I wish he was my General Practitioner as well. I told him how sad I am that I can't pick up my 9 month old granddaughter. He told me he would do everything he could to make it ok for me to pick up my granddaughter. Dr. Coe is god sent. My mother had spinal stenosis and was suffering with it for months. I called around for a few spine surgeons but Dr. Coe and the Spine Institute seemed to be the best option. The office staff have been so attentive throughout this whole process. Since beginning care with the doctor and his staff we have been satisfied throughout the way. The surgery took 6 hours and was successful. She was in pain afterwards but we expected that. Dr. Coe and Melissa visited her a few times during her stay in rehab to assure she was doing good. The doctor and staff are through and are always there to assist. Dr. Coe is experienced and knows what he is doing. I recommend the spinal institute to anyone who needs their services. read more

I can not recommend Dr. Coe highly enough, he literally saved my sisters life. My sister had neck surgery with a different surgeon that did not fuse, she was in horrible pain for over two years. Then she found Dr.Coe. He went in and cleaned up the prior surgery, 12 years later she is doing fantastic. Then this past June she had a degenerative issue in her lower spine - back to Dr.Coe she went. She had multiple levels worked on and she went home the NEXT day because of his brilliant minimally invasive technique. It only took 2 months for her to be 100%. I had a cervical spinal surgery performed by Dr. Jeffrey Coe due to a work related injury. During my recovery from this surgery, my HMO discovered that Dr. Coe had left a 3" long dissection to the interior lining of my left vertebral artery. It took my HMO almost 7 years to discover this damage, in the meantime every time I turned my head to the left, I would pass out and fall to the floor, unconscious. Please note that after the surgery, while I was in recovery, the anesthesiologist came in and told my husband and myself that I had given them quite a scare and when we admitted that we knew nothing about this the anesthesiologist got up and left the room, and I was discharged early the next morning. Since then I had a different spinal surgeon remove the oversized hardware that Dr. Coe, requiring this surgeon to use a chisel to remove the screws that had been installed in to my spine with the heads stripped. Dr Coe had also fused my neck with a 30 degree angle forward which causes me swallowing difficulties to this day. Due yourself a favor, and use a different surgeon, Dr. Coe is not reliable and lies! read more

I agree with earlier posters on this one. I thought I was being a little too sensitive during my visit when Dr. Coe was ordering "yes" or "no" answers until I read these other posts. Ok, I get it, I'm a woman and tend to make my answers a little more "flowery" than need be. But I felt a little intimitaded by Dr. Coe Dr Coe "Do you have tingling in your legs?" Me "Well, kind of, sometimes I feel.... Dr. Coe "Its a yes or no answer. Do you get tingling in your legs? Me "I guess you wouldn't call it tingling but... Dr Coe "So then "No", you don't get tingling. For us non-doctor types, I sometime find it hard to describe what my body is feeling, pain levels, etc. So for those of you that have a hard time like me, then Dr. Coe is probably not the right Dr. My husband is ex-military and so is Dr. Coe, so my husband said that it was a military thing and he rather quite liked him. Then again my husband wasn't a patient. As far as treatment goes - he did spend about 15 minutes with me during the first visit, which I felt was rather short. He had about three patients at once. Let me get this straight - he is nice, just not overly excited to here the story about how your back got hurt. Vague answers are not for this guy - so be prepared to be specific. I thought my back condition would take some figuring out - piecing together of symptoms to arrive at what the problem was - but Dr. Coe seemed to just see the black and white. On my second visit I saw Dr. Coe for about 1 minute and 30 seconds when he came into the room and rattled off treatment plans for me to his physicians assistant. I felt sorry for her - he was dragging her from one room to the next. Clearly he has too many patients..... I did receive an X-ray and an MRI that sort of explained what was wrong but not really. I understand that with backs being so intricate that Dr. Coe couldn't have given me an answer on my first visit without seeing the results of these. He referred to Dr. NG to give me a coritsone shot and after our consultation I still wasn't convinced that this was the route to go. Perhpas if I found out more answers from Dr. Coe I would have felt more confident that the shot was the answer to my problems. I am still in pain and it seems that time, not the Silicon Valley Spine Insitute, is what is helping the pain subside. If I were you, try here, just make sure to DEMAND his time. I wish I did. Oh - and the front desk is very nice which is hard to find in Dr.'s offices these days. So if any of you front desk girls are reading this, kudos for being so helpful. read more

Two stars because I had a positive outcome (surgically). However, the nightmare than ensued after the operation was nothing less than horrific. Dr Coe's office threatened to sue me despite having double insurance and a pre-approval letter. They forced me to sign an illegal document that tried to protect them despite the fact that they broke the rules of the insurance carrier. I know that much of the problem exists with the Insurance Carrier, but for them to threaten legal action within 90 days of the procedure was unacceptable. The office is "old school": closed for lunch, phone rings to voice mail a lot, no online services. read more

Dr. Jeffrey Coe, (OrthoNorcal), is very knowledgeable, thorough and kind. He listened to me very well and thoroughly examined me. He ordered both x-rays and an MRI to be done. When I returned to go over the MRI he showed me the problem. At the first appt. he ordered accurate meds to help relieve the pain. And he ordered PT. The physical therapy connected to OrthoNorcal was OPEN during the nightmare Novel Covid 19. There were no other PT offices open. I am SO thankful to have also found an open physical therapy office. I also went to another good physician in the same practice, (OrthoNorcal), in Nov of 2015 for hip surgery/replacement. Dr. Littlejohn was excellent. He is now retired. I highly recommend Dr. Coe and the practice. read more

Dr. Coe is a fantastic surgeon, enough so that it more than compensates for some of the shortcomings of him and his office. Yes, he is brusque and always in a hurry. He is not someone who either has time to or is inclined to (not sure which, suspect the former) to sit around and make small talk with his patients. Yes his office can be hard to get ahold of. The independently run pain clinic that shares his office is horrendous (Comprehensive Spine and Sport... see my review on their Yelp page for the details). Yes he tends to run late in his appointments. But at the end of the day, he operated on my wife's back and got rid of her symptoms. She had been seen by a physiatrist at PAMF for more than 10 years and he always insisted that nothing could be done for her injury. A few times when things got bad enough the physiatrist administered cortisone injections, but these granted temporary relief only. During those years, she could not work, and she could not exercise much without sciatic pain (the impacts would jar things too much). She could not sit or stand for extended periods of time or else her injury would flare up. She could not ride in the car for long distances without discomfort. Some days she could not even sleep without pain as staying in one position too long could cause pain. With one outpatient surgery Dr. Coe took the pressure off my wife's sciatic nerve. Once she recovered from the surgery itself she made steady progress and now has her life back. We just went in for the six month follow up this morning, and she is doing great. She is not only exercising as much as she wants, she is running almost every day which was unimaginable a short six months ago. She can go to movies. She can travel without pain. Every activity that was once denied to her due to her back injury, she can freely participate in. It is impossible to overstate the benefit of Dr. Coe's treatment for my wife. Dr. Jeffrey Coe changed my life and all for the better. A year ago I could not walk out and pick up the newspaper in the drive. Exactly a year a go, Dr. Coe did a fusion and I am now 100% pain free. I've been a patient since 1996, and am preparing for surgery #3. My injuries were due to lifestyle...being a tomboy and growing up in north Tahoe, I participated in pretty much all sports. Alpine skiing, ice hockey, water skiing, hiking, you name it. My first surgery was in 1997 for two herniated discs (anterior approach). I was treated for pain, did physical therapy for a year before the surgery. Successful and back to work in a month. 2005..spinal arthritis from years of chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Coe treated me for almost 10 years before we opted for surgery (8 hours on the table). He always said "whatever you need, just let me know". I now have disc L2/3 which is bone on bone. We are doing surgery this month. Always, he listens and gives you more than one option. He is VERY direct, and doesn't sugar coat your options, but rather he is honest and forthcoming. I don't need "hand holding". I just need direct answers and honesty, which is what I have always received from Dr. Coe. Also, post surgery (both procedures), he visited twice daily. My husband had three surgeries at Stanford, and I don't recall the surgeon visiting more than once after each procedure. Office staff is great, especially Sherry who is the billing manager. Botched up my surgery years back... Other doctors have confirmed his botched up job.. Since his surgery I have very little feeling in one of my legs and suffer more with back pain. When he asked after the surgery if I was doing better and I said no he shrugged his shoulders and walked out of my hospital room... Please, Please stay away from this doctor!!!!!!! Likes to spread money around to friends. Had me do a very painful discography, see his buddies the Physiatrist, coupled with many unnecessary treatments and tests.. Dr. Coe is great a surgeon one of the best, he has a gift of seeing through the patients that need help with spinal issues versus the patients that need some mental help aka Michael J or M.A. He may need some bedside manner adjustments but he is straight shooter. This sets him apart. read more

Dr. Coe is nothing short of Amazing. He saved my life! I had a cervical problem at the C4-C5 level about ten years ago. As my preference is for original equipment, Dr. Coe was extremely diligent about eliminating every non-surgical option. He would explain the purpose of every testing procedure and we would discuss the next step. After all non-surgical options were eliminated, it was determined that the disc had to be removed. Dr. Coe then recommended an artificial replacement disc. After careful consideration, I agreed. As you could imagine, my knowledge of the procedure was quite limited. So, Dr. Coe sat me down at a desk with a cup of coffee and provided a wealth of information about the operation. He was genuinely concerned about me and my understanding of the procedure. I was very impressed. On operation day, I remember being extremely nervous when the anesthesiologist began preparing me for the procedure. In response, Dr. Coe made one last visit to reassure me that we were making the proper decision. The surgery went flawless. The next day Dr. Coe stopped by the recovery room with a large smile and asked if I would like to leave. He did not have to ask twice. A short while after his departure, I dressed myself and walked out of the recovery room towards the nursing station. They were nervously amused, but allowed me to walk out of the hospital. I was able to walk from the hospital to his office a few blocks away. Dr. Coe was ecstatic. He was genuinely pleased. Dr. Coe was not finished. He has followed me for over ten perfect years! I honestly must say...I had spinal fusion from Dr Jeffrey Coe in 2013...right from the start we heard how great he was,from him...the hospital in Los Gatos that he operated my fusion from was less than nice...actually,so particularly dirty that I did not eat any of the meals they provided....his entire staff at the hospital were Eastern European ...had trouble with English...my five days there were the worst I'd ever spent in a hospital...did I tell you another neurosurgeon looked at my MRI after the surgery and told me he had pinched a nerve in my spine inside the cage...so, I've been in pain for years...the other neurosurgeon told me another back surgery to fix the problem was a 50/50 chance I'd end up in a wheelchair...I have just watched..DR DEATH..on peacock tv...and so much of it feels like I was there....brand new Spinal Institute...magazines and all...and just him and his wife as the desk girl....I asked why he couldn't perform my surgery at Stanford or another known hospital....he said...no,no....I only operate out of this hospital..which I soon figured out he had just bought...ok...HES NOT A DR DEATH...but watching this show made me relive how unreal that whole experience was....please do all your due diligence when finding a surgeon who's going to go near your spine! I still walk and talk, but pain is a part of my life ever since 2013....please,please..see a surgeon from a big known hospital....if they don't have privileges at the nice hospitals...is there a reason?. I don't pick my dr. thru this.I had a great exp. w/him & his office.I work @ lpch & did have 2 wait @ x. That's what u do @ Dr's. offices.He found my problem my 1st visit after checking reflexes, xrays & later confirmed by mri.The other place I went did hardly anything after 6 mos. of pain. He healed me & I was able 2 get back 2 work. He's not a touchy, feely person but if he's not busy he'll talk 2 u.I have 2 other bad discs & if I need surgery n the future will have him do it. read more

I'm not happy about my appointment with this doctor. He sort of dismissed my problem and barely looked at the MRI I presented. I ended up seeing another doctor who accurately determined the problem (related to a disc other than the one Dr. Coe mentioned). I will be continuing treatment now with assurance we are treating the precise area. I wouldn't recommend him. read more

I had surgery by Dr Jeff Coe January 2012. I am now pain free. I with pain so bad I could not lay on my back or tummy ever. While laying on my hips, I had to roll from hip to hip to try and avoid the pain. Sleep was impossible for more than a few hours. Dr Coe preformed an ALIF and PLIF on a same day surgery. I awoke from surgery with my back and leg pain gone and it has never returned. My journey to surgery was long and deciding to have surgery not an easy one. Now looking back on this surgery, I believe Dr Coe put together a plan for surgery that resulted in my successful surgery. He hired a team to support him and a competent P.A. assist him. I had first been evaluated by Dr Coe in 2005 and tried the exercise path for many years, but my continued worsening symptoms warranted moving ahead with surgery 6 months ago. As I said. I am pain free. It is hard to express how this at times feels like a miracle. I am grateful to Dr Coe for his surgical skills. In the end, this is what counts...when you have to have surgery, choose a surgeon who can assemble the right team and has the skills to do the job in the operating room. I am 6 months post OP, have had films showing a successful fusion, I remain pain free, I have no doubt I made the right decision. I too have worked hard, to educate myself about my options, continued to work hard at exercise before and after surgery. So, yes, I too have contributed to my outcome.
