This Dr's office is worthless. Phone hardly ever works. When it works, they hardly ever answer. When they answer, you'll never get an appt for whatever magical reason.... Considering you're a patient calling sick to see a doctor... ya, good luck! If you ever DO get the chance to MEET the doctor, his bedside manner is lacking. The ONLY, the absolutely only redeemable quality about this doctor and possibly putting up w his office staff... is IF you need a recommendation for a specialist and even then the office staff will do the bare minimum if they do call back. Been dealing w this office for 5 years now, and I keep thinking, maybe this time they'll answer, maybe this time they'll call back.... We're done w this practice - the Dublin location is almost as bad bit Livermore is just as bad as Pleasanton. I've been with Dr. Wherry since 2019. He has gone above and beyond with his level of care. I've had over 20 surgeries in my life and have had countless discussions with cardiologists, otolaryngologists, and other specialists in the medical field. Dr. Wherry is an evidence-based physician. He will cite studies and give you background on a medication before prescribing. Anytime I've picked his brain about different disorders and diseases, he goes into great depth on treatments, effectiveness of treatments, what medications are prescribed, their mechanism of action, and the side effects. If you're looking for a new doctor, consider Dr. Wherry. The office experience is good. They take a 2 hour lunch from 12-2pm, so be mindful of that. read more

I moved to this area and needed a local GP. Wherry himself is okay; a good technician I think but not particularly great "bedside manner." He talks way to fast and doesn't really appear to listen closely, like he draws his own conclusions and doesn't want or need my input. The staff if terrible. They've twice "lost" my prescription refills, such that I needed to make emergency calls to take care of the prescriptions, and always act like they're doing me a favor when I call or visit. Their calls come in on my smart phone as "unknown caller," so that's also a pain. There is no way to contact them online. C'mon, we're 1/5 of the way through the 21st century, join us! Meanwhile, if I wasn't so lazy myself, I'd already be seeing another doc. I'll work on that this year. read more

Dr. Wherry and his staff seemed overall pleasant to me. I was a little weary after reading these reviews. This was my first time at this office and I had to bring my children with me. His staff was nice to me and my children. They took me right back! Dr. Wherry was overall very knowledgeable and was actually quite a chatterbox. This was refreshing as I usually have Dr. Peter Wong who leaves me waiting in the room for up to forty-five minutes and says the shortest words possible to get you out. Wherry was a breath of fresh air. I've not had many doctors and this was the first time having him, but overall I thought it was a nice experience. Working with Dr. Wherry has my best personal physician experience to date. While I lived in the area (about 6 years) he provided outstanding care. I never felt rushed on my visits and he provided as much or as little information and context as I needed to feel comfortable and informed. Great office staff as well. We just moved here and had to switch insurance at 55 years old and we saw the Dr Wherry had great reviews and was on our insurance plan! After seeing Dr Wherry today and getting all my prescriptions ( I was dreading the task) transferred over, Dr Wherry explained in detail how each prescription works and had a couple great suggestions to change to but also confirmed a couple were great choices and why they were great! I didn't wait even long enough to fill out all my new patient paperwork! The Doctor mentioned several "in network" Gynecologists he knows of since I am wayyy over due on everything after raising my kids!! Loved the sweet girl who was the Medical Assistant who took me back to my room, she said she's worked there a very long time , which is always a very good sign! Dr Wherry's front office staff were delightful and took care of processing everything and were not even in a rush to get my co-pay! Very professional, VERY KIND, very knowledgeable, great Doctor and staff! This entire office made my dreaded switch over to a new Doctor and New insurance sooo easy and simple I can't thank them enough! But most of all I was sooo impressed with the Doctors knowledge of my Type 2 Diabetes, PCOS, HYPOTHYROID and insulin resistance and how they work together or against eachother! The absolute worst Primary Care doc Ive ever had. Im young, fit and very proactive in terms of maintaining good health. This guy and his staff are just flat out incompetent. Maybe seeing him in Pleasanton provides a different experience but for folks like me that saw him in Livermore(where he apparently comes once a week) DO NOT subject yourself to this poor level of care. The staff there gives you the run around and have difficulty doing things like following throught with referrals and flat out lied a few times over the course of 2 months. Just ridiclulous. The end result: Wherry and his staff send me to an out of network provider where I may be on the hook for the bill.He also tried to send me to Labcorp in Ptown, unaware there was one 500 feet from his office in Livermore? Numerous calls to him and his staff to discuss my experience have gone unnoticed and been ignored, prompting me to write this review. Changing PCM today. read more

I used to think Dr. Wherry was a very good doctor. I was a patient of his for about 15 years. I used to be like the other reviewers that said he explains things well and is very compassionate but then I overheard him yell at his receptionist about his patients one day and say things that were ridiculous! I asked the girls working about it because I didn't want to see him after that! They said he does that all the time! I used to think of him as compassionate until that day. Whoever answers the phone now is a nightmare to deal with, but that's probably just because of the instructions given to her by Dr Wherry. My biggest complaint and disappointment is that after all this time I couldn't count on Dr Wherry to help me or a family member when we needed his experience and knowledge the most! So sad...are these people there to help people or not? read more

I've been seeing Dr. Wherry for at least five years now, and he's the best GP I've had in at least 15 years. He's very friendly, (perhaps a bit nerdy and quirky...though I find that kind of endearing). And he's definitely super, super knowledgable! He takes his time and listens, and then really goes into detail explaining his diagnoses and the medicine he's rx'ing. He has sat and talked with me on occasion for over an hour--not once but multiple times. if they had less than one star i would pick that.....why you ask? If you ever heard of a physician who is just in it for the money, this is the go to guy you want. lets start off with the first phone call when i asked if dr. wherry is accepting new patients? answer that depends on your insurance. lucky me he was taking my insurance. during the exam when i explained i was here for a annual physical dr. wherry himself tells me that he doesn't see new patients for annual physicals on the first visit. i told him that is what i told the girl who scheduled the appointment for me. so i asked dr. wherry why? his response was a physical exam can take about 90 minutes of time and what the insurance pays him is just not worth it...so great my insurance covers 1 physical per year with no copay no deductible, now with dr. wherry billing that first visit as a consult i had to pay a copay plus the visit got applied to my deductible. on top of that i had blood work done and asked the technician if she knew if my insurance was accepted by that lab he was sending me to and her answer was yes...big mistake just got the bill from the lab for $355 for going to a lab that was out of network.. never believe what people tell you in the doctors office, always confirm it yourself. thank you dr. wherry and staff for making that visit the worst experience i've ever had in my life. not only that today i received a letter stating that dr. wherry is releasing me from his practice. read more

I was Dr. Wherry's patient for several years and only stopped seeing him because I moved out of state. I always knew he was a great doctor but I am even more aware of it now that I am trying to find a doctor in my new area of residence. As has been said in other reviews, Dr. Wherry answers all questions fully and explains everything in detail. He is always open and explains why he is asking any questions. He addressed every concern I brought up in every visit. I never felt that he was being secretive or closed off. Our interactions were always positive and I never felt he was judging me. I give him an A+. Wish me luck. I can't try out too many doctors or I will get known as a "difficult" patient--LOL! Dr. Wherry is not easy to replace! read more

Saw Dr. Wherry last week a myriad of issues (I'm 44 so they pile up) including a recent sports injury. He cranked through all of them with very thoughtful responses which included scientific background I could understand on drug efficacy differences for different people. Very nice guy, seems to keep up with medical advances well, but business practices are horrible. Only open from 9AM to Noon, then closed for lunch until 2 PM, then open again until 5 PM. Voicemail greeting states call 911 if emergency or call back when it is convenient for us, insinuates they don't return calls. Worst thing is they have no provision for sick patients. If you are sick, go to urgent care. My wife's doctor has sick patient walk in hours every day from 730 to 900 AM. If your own doctor when you are sick, why have a doctor at all? read more

Absolutely terrible. Just terrible. Complained about suspecting issues with my thyroid and he dismissed my case as depression and anxiety and copped out by pushing anti-depressants and psychiatric help. I had to buy the specific blood test that would rule out Graves' disease own with my own cash and whaddya know? Tested POSITIVE. And to make matter worse I begged him to order the blood test on the second visit and he refused because he didn't feel it was "necessary" even after my explanation that I was suffering from very clear hyperthyroid symptoms for the last TEN MONTHS. This disease would have taken a huge toll on my life if I had accepted his rushed diagnosis because of his lack of concern and I would have had to try and live a normal life while it got worse, and be put on anti-depressant medications I didn't need and waste even more money and time on a shrink which I also don't need. Terrible. What is this world coming to. read more

He is professional, punctual and really cares about his patients. Before finding Dr. Wherry, I was tired of the quick turn, one diagnosis per visit approach other doctors offices provided. His office is very comforatable, modern and he has a great staff. I have never had to wait for more than 10 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment. I've been seeing Dr. Wherry on and off for the past few years as a general practitioner/doctor of internal medicine and have always been very pleased with his service. The wait times at his old office (Valleycare Medical Center at 5575 West Las Positas Blvd) were insufferable, but that's all changed since he moved to a nice new facility on Cedarwood lane by the Pleasanton post office. Now people can get his superlative medical service and expertise without waiting 40 minutes past their appointment time! His new office is nicer than the old one (I think), the staff is courteous and Dr. Wherry is not only incredibly knowledgeable, but exceptionally eager to share his voluminous knowledge and wisdom with his patients. I never feel rushed or railroaded when I see him. He's always very pleasant and easy-going, and willing to listen to me before deciding on a course of action (be they procedures or prescriptions.) If there are different ways to treat a problem, he'll share the pros and cons of each and let you decide which to start with. If you want to see a particular specialist, he'll gladly refer you to whomever you wish rather than forcing you to see a specific doctor. It's easy to tell that his primary concern is offering his patients the highest standard of medical care and not pushing pills or racking up referrals to his friends. His integrity deserves the highest praise, and I highly recommend him to any decent person in search of the best medical care available. read more

This review is somewhat dated as Dr. Wherry served as my wife and my doctor between 2012 to early 2014. While I will not call into question his medical knowledge, I will simply state that he is an atrocious doctor. His bedside manner is non-existent as he asks questions then he immediately responds before you can even complete your first sentence. Everytime my wife saw him, he was walking out the door two minutes after he had entered without barely an examination. He seemingly loves to prescribe medicine--I have never had a doctor who was so quick on the draw with their presrciption pad. My wife and I tried to give him a chance (that's why we kept as our primary care provider for as long as we did), but nothing ever changed. Ultimately we had to change doctors; and we do not regret it for a second. read more

Just moved to Pleasanton and saw Doctor Wherry! What an amazing doctor! He is so easy to talk to and works with you as a human not just a number or $!!! The staff were friendly and everything on time! Appointment was made easy, fast. I was a cash patient $60!!! Not sure why we need insurance! My insurance is Kaiser, but because they treat patients like robot and are corporate, I need to have a personal doctor who is open to other suggstions and understands a patient need rather than text book!
