I find the staff extremely rude and the doctors unprofessional I would not recommend. They come off very cold and harsh if you're looking for a doctor who's kind and gentle you won't get that here. Also I always felt very rushed like they were in a hurry for something all the time. Also, the communication is the worst, one time I called five times in a row they all told me that they would tell the doctor to call me back and he never did. That has happened to me twice. And they even told me that they had no evidence in the computer saying that I called which was even more shocking and upsetting. read more

Dr. Roy is the best, most professional and experienced doctor I could have hoped to find. He listens, cares and is very thorough, detailed and responsive. Any negative responses on here, about his receptionist or staff not returning emails, etc., should be things that are reported to him, but not taking away from his "stars" which is what a lot of people go by, to rate him. So petty and unfair to take credibility and status away from such an outstanding doctor/person. read more

This is the review for the recent visits. Front office and office manager Angela are not professional. They show the attitude to the patients. Not even talking about customer services. I received "0" service from the front desk. First, They suppose to collect copay at at the visit which they forgot to do it. When I received the bill, and I call them and I got hold for more than 10 minutes and have to hang up. Secondly, unnecessary office visit: I feel like that I got rip off when someone see you and say that you are normal, and no further followup. Dr. Roy was the second doc assigned to my case. He specializes in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease. When he came to my room with Dr. Yee, I grabbed on to my bed railing expecting some super scary results. He came in without a mask and shook my hand to assure me that everything would be okay. I was lucky enough to have a diagnosis fairly quickly and am very fortunate not to have gotten anything but a nasty virus that was luckily self contained. Dr. Roy will be following my blood work and results for the next few months and he is more than compassionate, understanding and probably the hardest working man I have ever met. Reading the negative reviews on Dr. Roy - What a joke. Those reviews do not mark on Dr. Roy's service! We have been with Dr. Roy for about 2 years. He is extremely knowledgeable, articulate and CARES! Emergency calls, he'll see us. Last minute refills needed, he helps out. Billing properly, we've never had an issue. He can speak in "Doctor" at times and we simply ask him to dummy down the vocabulary for us. He has a wealth of knowledge that he can share. I respect that. As we are dealing with a very rare condition we only trust the best. Dr. Roy is a great doctor - HANDS DOWN. Oh! While reading someone else's post, I saw how they mentioned Dr. Roy wore no gloves while shaking their hand. I LOVED THIS ABOUT DR. ROY. He always greets us with respect and shakes our hand. He treats us very well, making us feel as if he genuinely cares and not as an infected person simply needing treatment. read more

I really regret posting my initial review last year. For two years Dr Roy has horribly misdiagnosed my condition. Not having proper treatment has left me very badly sick and now likely in need of hospitalization and surgery. On top of this, the last time I went into the office and heard him bad mouthing me saying something like 'Oh God, this guy is never on time' as if I am a huge burden to him. The office lady had to let him know I was sitting right outside the door. Today I called at noon and voiced concerns to staff that I have been feeling worse than usual. I did not receive a call back from Dr. Roy until nearly 5 hours later, 30 minutes before he closed. I explained to him what was going and requested a referral to get blood work done at the lab. He denied my request saying "if you want me to help you, you can't call me 30 minutes before I close." I explained that I called 5 hours ago and am just receiving a call back now, and he said "either way if you feel sick go the the emergency room." Then without saying another word he got off the phone. If you choose to keep this guy as your doctor, my guess is it will only be a matter of time before you run into these nightmares that could end up ruining your quality of life as well. I will be following up with the medical review board. Anyone having the same experience, please take the proper action to show that gross neglect is unacceptable, especially from someone who literally holds our lives in his hand. read more

Dr.Roy is a smart cookie. He knows what he is talking about and explains everything well. My husband doesn't like doctors but he will go see Dr.Roy. One time I was really sick for 2 weeks. I had a high fever, no energy & was weak. I had gone to the Emergency Room because it was the weekend. What they gave me didn't help at all. After suffering for a while, I made an appointment with Dr. Roy. I was so sick, I couldn't drive and I had to sit down in the elevator that was only going up one story! I thought I was dying. Anyway, Dr.Roy gave me some super duper antibiotics that had me feeling better in 24 hours. Amazing. He rocks!! read more

Dr. Bakul Roy is compassionate and extremely competent. He is a doctor who puts a premium on his patients' care and communicates very well with us. We are confident that as our PCP he will make the best decisions for the health of each member of our family as he does with all of his patients. He almost always runs on time--we rarely have to wait for an appointment. His staff seems to know his patients and they are very helpful in getting you an appointment quickly if you are really sick. Our previous doctor had to move and so his own personal physician, Dr. Roy, took over his practice. How lucky we are that our former doctor left us in the hands of another doctor with such intelligence, intuitiveness, and above all, integrity!!! I saw Dr. Roy last year for a respiratory problem, and he fixed that wonderfully. However, i saw him yesterday for a chronic nail infection, and yes, I am the one that let it go on for far too long, yet he said my nails in question were dirty, and they weren't. They are discolored due to the infection. I was a little insulted from that. My weight and height were never taken by his staff, just my blood pressure. So there will be no base line on that info. I do believe he is very smart. We will see if the antibiotics he prescribed for me will take care of the problem. I hope I can give him more stars in the future. read more

Dr. Roy is wonderful and had good bedside manner. However I don't always get to see him because he is a busy man, which has left me to be treated by his NP Sandy Ly, who is very friendly and understanding. I've seen her only a handful of times and she has helped me feel better. As long as I have a PPO insurance coverage I will continue coming here for my primary care. read more

Have gone to Dr Roy for years going back to when he was in Pinole. He was fine as long as you're healthy. If you get sick he's good for writing a prescription using meds that are questionable to say the least. read more

FRONT OFFICE NOT WELCOMING AT ALL. DRY PERSONALITY, NO WILLINGNESS TO HELP. The lower star is due to front office staff which is the FACE of any office. I used to be Dr. Roy's patient. I know for a fact that he cares about how his front office treats patients. He is a great guy himself. I absolutely had no choice but to switch insurance plans do to work offering other insurance coverage. I called the office in January 2017, and multiple times after that to get medical records, at the time they were not John Muir. A dry personality front desk person, put me off a few times. Then I called Angel who knew me by my first name and I thought she was sincere. But, now that I was not patient, she was addressing me by half of my last name and said "your records needs to be ordered from storage, since we have not gone electronic yet". I called multiple times and even told her that I know Dr. Roy cares about his staff treatment of patients. She said we will sent to you in 2 weeks. I made two more calls. I was so frustrated. I GAVE UP. I am now able to switch insurance and go back. I called the front office. NOT WELCOMING AT ALL. DRY PERSONALITY, NO WILLINGNESS TO HELP. The person I spoke to was Amy. I asked about in-net work with BS or BC and Athena . She said you need to call your insurance and ask them. Well, I am trying to decide which PPO insurance to choose and don't have an actual member number as of yet. Also, in the past I was told by my insurance that "the doctor is showing in network, but he could change his status and not take our insurance without us knowing. So you need to call your Doctor's office." My other Doctor's front desk, at Stanford Group was able to give me enough information about their status with the I said I always was able to get and see the Dr. himself. She said sometimes you have to see the nurse practitioner. They had a nurse practitioner who I felt did not have the knowledge of giving care. Now, I am really debating. I have to get passed these people every time I want to see the doctor whom I entrust. But, can I trust these girls to let me do just that? Or, will their attitude be a heartache for me? I hope DR. Anyone know a GOOD doctor in San Ramon CA? I've had 3 visits with Dr Roy over the last 2 years as my account was transferred to his office when my long-term doctor retired. With doctors and lawyers you can tell a lot about the person by the working staff. Are they friendly? Do they seem comfortable and at ease in their environment? Not Dr. Roy's. The office is cold and unwelcoming. The receptionist was grumpy and borderline incompetent. Everyone else just kept their heads down. No idle chatter, no friendly banter, no smiles. Not even the assistant who took my weight and blood pressure. Other than her chronic cough every communication was formal. 3 visits and no one in the office has ever asked if I'm married, have children, live in the area. They couldn't care less. Probably because the Dr couldn't care less either. Amazing. On my most recent visit, while waiting for the doctor the receptionist enters and dumps my 4" medical file on the table next to me. "Here, this is your file. We've copied everything we need onto the computer. We don't need it anymore.". When I asked her what I should do with it she told me to hold onto it in case they needed more from it. . They "didn't have room for it anymore". Dr Roy if you like your computers so much, you need to be in a research lab. Behind a microscope; not n front of patients. read more

If it were not for Dr. Roy being on-call, my husband would have died due to a horrible infection following his spine surgery. My husband and I respect and adore everything about Dr. Roy, and his medical competency is way beyond compare. When my mother was living in NorCal, I introduced her to him as a new patient. Since she has moved away, she continues to compare her physicians to him- she adores him too! NOTE: never got to see the doctor. tWanted to make a new patient appt based on all of the wonderful yelp reviews. when I called the office, they told me I need to make 2 appts: one to meet the doctor and fill out the paperwork and one for my annual examination. when I asked how the first appt will be billed the only response was "I'm not sure". OK... if this is your standard office policy, you should probably know how you charge for it. Not impressed and feel like they just want to double charge for preventative care. I'll pass! read more

My son had a physical booked weeks ahead, I called several times to confirm as he had not received email confirmation and we booked online. A week prior to the appointment he was contacted saying that only the NP was available on that day. As he had arranged a day off work for the appointment and it was too late to find a physician to do it he said it was fine. He asked if he could get a minor skin problem taken care of at the physical and was told he could. They would not care of it at the physical, also he called about his lab results several weeks after as had not heard anything, was told they had not received them from the lab but would chase it up and call him, now almost a month later he has still not received them! Dr Bakul may be a good doctor but his office needs to be better at follow through. Frustrating experience. read more

I first met Dr Roy today as a replacement for my family doctor, who relocated to Southern California suddenly and without prior notification. The introduction was not without a strong recommendation from my previous doctor. Still though, it was an awkward moment, as many of the patients put Dr Roy through a harsh review of qualifications and questions regarding his competency. His ethnic background probably caught many patients by surprise and certainly fueled the cross examination. I found Dr Roy to be a very concerned and compassionate gentleman who asked the right questions and had a real interest in treating and following up my medical issues. Not only was I impressed with his friendly manner, but also with his professional approach to asking questions that related to my concerns as a patient. I really like Dr. Roy, now of San Ramon. Dr. Roy assumed the practice of my former physician and I saw him for the first time yesterday. What I liked the most about Dr. Roy was that he did something I have never seen a physician do before. He walked in and said he first introduce himself and tell me about his background, then focus on the medical issues prompting today's visit. Dr. Roy then spent several minutes highlighting his impressive qualifications. It was really nice to get that introduction and I have never had a physician do that before. On the medical side, I really liked him. He fit me in same day (without having to beg) and did not make me wait even though he double-booked me. He takes clinical himself and is very thorough. Records are electronic and state of the art. This is a physician you definitely want to keep. read more

Dr. Roy saved my life. I came down with an extremely deadly bacterial infection after surgery in the hospital. I was packed in ice with 105.6* tempreture and comatose. Dr. Roy stepped in and 10 hours later I was conscious and alive. Not only is he an excellent doctor but he is a wonderful, exceptional, the best human being. He is a wonderful listener; concerned about the welfare of his patients; and gives them the time they need to explain their issues. I owe my life to him. I was able to see my kids married; my daughter pass the bar; be well enough to play decent golf again. You will never experience a more caring doctor!.
