Very fun karaoke bar! Came here for the first time with some friends on Friday around 9pm. I love karaoke and was very excited to get out with a bunch of people to kick off the new year. It's 21+ but that's about how old everyone looked, ha! They give you a wristband before entering, when we arrived there was no cover. Not sure about later in the evening. You go down a long narrow hallway and then turn left at the second door. It's a pretty small area (think there may be a separate section without music, not sure) with a few bar seats and a couple tables on the floor. I got a bud zero because I'm doing dry but they have your standard selection of beer and liquor / mixers. The songs in the queue were pretty fun and upbeat, a lot of modern pop with some 2000s throwbacks interspersed. Karaoke is free but you can tip to skip the line! We stayed until midnight, at which point a couple drinks had been spilled and the floor was starting to get sticky. But all in all, it was a great time and I would definitely come back! Do not go if you want to walk in with 2 people and ask to play a song, the bartender says nothing while you put a song on the iPad and then a girl with food in her in mouth screams at you not to tour her " fucking equipment", yet the bartender watched you do it and said nothing. It was also an iPad -and she could have told us that when we walked in. Rude and the other women eating was screaming absurdities at us... it's a karaoke bar . Oh the stories these walls could tell... Jeff's will always have a soft spot in my heart. When I first moved to Charlotte my friends brought me here and walking down the stairs into the basement for the first time I was slightly terrified and had no idea what was about to greet me. When people think karaoke on Charlotte this is probably the first bar most people imagine and for good reason. They are always packed with patrons willing to get up and drunkenly belt out their favorite tune. Some people can sing. Some can't. But either way everyone usually has fun. If you aren't ready for a loud chaotic drunken evening then this place probably isn't your best option, but I have many fond memories of closing out the night here with friends and it almost always makes for an entertaining night. Always feels like home when I go here. Friendly vibes, amazing KJ, great customer service, and all around fun people.

I was patiently sitting at the bar, fire marshal announced there were too many people and to go to the bar upstairs, bartender served everyone around me, I asked for a drink, she said no until people go upstairs and assured me there will be a bartender there. I have been upstairs for 20 minutes waiting, meanwhile I can hear the festivities going on downstairs. read more

The Dive Bar Karaoke ambiance was on point! Perfect mix of sticky floors, strange smells, and a mix of campy, seasoned, and awkward performances. One more star could be added if the KJ announced which singers were on deck and had the next track queued up a bit faster.... but overall a great experience with a super fun crowd. read more

AVOID at all costs! My friend was assaulted by a regular who claimed he worked at the bar. The bouncer saw this "regular" push my friend at the top of the stairs. It is absolutely unacceptable that the bouncer did not 86 this person at that moment and ban him for assault. The bouncer did absolutely nothing and continued to talk to the assailant. We were waiting for an Uber and the assailant continued harassing us as we were waiting. Before things escalated, another friend asked the bartender to intervene and tell the regular to leave my friends alone but she "didn't want to get involved" because the guy is a regular. Poorly run, poorly managed, and I would not feel safe if I chose to come here again. read more

Fun little dive-y spot. Cheap drinks, good times. Go on a Thursday if you want a decent pool of people but not a sardine-like kind of crowded. Karaoke is fun. When I moved to CLT, so many people recommend me this place to go have a fun night and finally yesterday was the day. Honestly, I had a really good time. It's not the most beautiful looking place you'll ever go, but you will definitely have a great time. Yes, have some drinks before heading to Jeff's that way you are in the mood. Drinks are cheap and bartenders were super quick. I absolutely love the concept of kareoke because I mean who doesn't want to sing in front a crowd of people once in their life right ? The song line can get long, but if you tip the DJ your name moves up pretty fast. They also have the old school popcorn machine and you can get a bag while you're there or before heading out. You must become a member in order to go in. You just pay $1 and boom you are a member. I'll definitely be coming back for more fun at Jeff's. Don't know why I waited so long to come and check this place out. Don't ever change anything in here it's perfect! read more

Jeff's Bucket Shop - Great times at JBS - Dive Bars Near Me - Charlotte, North Carolina

It may not be pay to play at Jeff's Bucket Shop but it sure seems like it. Our group arrived around 9:30 and there were maybe a dozen people there, multiple people in our group put their names on the karaoke list within 20 minutes. Fast forward three hours later and nobody from our group had been called up. We were being skipped by people who got to the bar two hours after us because they "tipped to skip", and some of the same people got on stage five times in a two hour timeframe. We really wanted to get our friend on stage because it was her birthday, so around 12:30 we pooled some money together for a "tip to skip" and were told it would still be another 30-60 minutes. If you really want to get on stage, bring a wad full of cash or you'll get bumped to the bottom of the list. Pretty disappointing experience. read more

Cool little hole in the wall. I would suggest cleaning your shoes after you leave. Probably the stickiest floors I have ever encountered at a dive bar. Would have stayed longer if the wife didn't get molested by some random girl. Don't look up, the ceiling is covered by a minimum 3 inches of dust. It's kinda nasty and would defiantly recommend some attention if anyone that owns this establishment actual reads these reviews. Bartenders are cool, karaoke is off the chain. Went on opening post c19 night. Bartender as always on point. Never seen that guy mess up. Karaoke dj has great energy and is fair with playlist. Very cool vibes I enjoyed it. People having lots of fun. New addition: new food is decent plus girl you order it from is strikingly pretty. She will tolerate you talking to her and even engage back as long as you want. I know it is because she can't leave but she is very personable. Fits on with veteran staff well Owner is very gracious and thanks everyone. Really a great group to see in a fun environment. This bar is cool if you like college kids standing on stage screaming. You won't get to sing your song unless you bribe the DJ with money. There's a board that says "it's free to sing", which isn't actually true. Lol. I think this place has a lot of potential, but there should be some integrity in the way they handle business here. Jeff's bucket shop is like no other place I have ever been. We went in sept for my 25th birthday and I have been begging my roommates to go back ever since. If you are looking for fun karaoke bars Jeff's bucket shop is the place to be. Every bar now a days wants to be fancy and they all do too much. Jeff's bucket shop does the perfect amount. The karaoke Dj's are fantastic. The crowds fantastic and who doesn't love karaoke and a cheap great beer. 10/10 will be recommending to all my family and friends whenever they visit Charlotte. read more

The owners are very personable here. I love how they have free popcorn as well. It has a very "we are all friends vibe" that I very much enjoy. I like the roof top, especially where you can play Jenga and beer pong if you wanna get away from dancing or singing downstairs. There is a wait on the weekends. Then went to a holiday bubbly tasting, snacks at Good Food on Montford, then all hell breaks loose. We are walking by Jeff's Bucket Shop, my friend says, "what's Jeff's Bucket Shop?" Well. I don't know, I could tell you exactly where it is, but have I been there? No. So, I was like, let's go find out. You walk down a narrow hallway with a HUGE neon lit arrow pointing to the door, OMG, you had me at HELLO! We walk into a teeny tiny bar, with the bartender and a few patrons. Everyone is low key, but friendly. The bartender is super, super nice. Oh Jeez, it's loaded with boys and there are some cute ones. Oh my. Yummy, little Debbie snack cakes and drink specials, nice barkeep and kaorake at 10p. Sweet Jesus, give me the mike. but no, not even loaded with alcohol, I'm still too shy. Downstairs! The entrance is on the right side of the chicken joint above it. What a wacky little bar! And they have friendly people that are just as weird as you are. Great place for conversing with patrons, the bartender or just hanging out. Dare I say this is the first true dive bar I've discovered in Charlotte. You "could" dance in here if it wasn't so tiny. It gets packed quick and then nobody can move. I've noticed locals confusing dive bars with biker bars. Both have their merits but they are not the same! Dive bars are cheap, have their own regulars and have been around forever. Many are former speakeasies. In the surliest of places, the bartenders drink as much as the patrons. That's not the case at Jeff's because they run a respectable establishment. Oh right, and biker bars have a bunch of hogs parked outside and bikers drinking inside. Get it?! It's pretty simple. Where the two lifestyles sometimes intersect is at joints that refer to themselves as punk rock or heavy metal bars. I was in Charlotte for business and hit up Jeff's on a Tuesday for karaoke night. Great dive bar! String drinks! Free popcorn and a great atmosphere! I've been coming to Jeff's bucket shop for about roughly give or take 9 years. I will say that this place meets the expectations of karaoke and the bar scene. Everyone is friendly and loving especially the staff. Everyone of the staff members I've become friends with in some way and they have welcomed me into their homes for holidays and party's outside of the bucket. There is no reason why I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone new or has always belonged to the Charlotte community. I know for a fact that this place is one of the most drama free zone bars I've been to or I wouldn't go as often as I do. read more

Super Bummed! Wanted this place to be amazing since karaoke is our jam. Waited in line outside to get in which only made us more excited thinking this was a good spot. Signed up to get on the list for karaoke and noticed people singing who signed up after us. Wife went up and asked the DJ he said "well money talks." She offered him $20 for three people and he laughed and said "maybe $20/a piece." Bartenders were super rude which I get the place is small and was packed. Ended up leaving fairly quickly. Like several other reviewers have mentioned, I happened upon this place after grabbing a bite to eat at the Roasting Co. I was with a girlfriend and we were curious as to what JBS was - so we tentatively crept down the stairs to check it out. I like little dives that have character but on the night we were there, there were just a few regulars and we clearly didn't fit in so we didn't stick around long. This place was awesome back in the day. One of the best small music venues in town. Its still cool, but it smells like poo. I've only been here once in about 5 years and I had a great time. Local rockstars that were known as The Ideal Way did a reunion show that was great. There really weren't any great beer specials for a place that seems to be going for the dive bar theme and the stench of sewage is awful. Ironically, they have a popcorn machine in there that does a pretty good job of covering up the smell, they just don't use it that often. I really don't know what else to say, if there is good music I'll go back, but never am I going to say lets go grab a beer in the basement spot that smells like poo when Duckworth's is a block away. read more

This establishment is way to small and fills up fast. The DJ sucked and a white boy sang karaoke and dropped the N word over and over in the song. The Dj then proceeded to back up the guy who kept saying the word with racist comments. I came here on a Friday night around 11pm. There was some pretty awful karaoke happening, & EVERYONE in the room was 4+shots over served. I'm not exaggerating, everyone was either drooling in themselves or falling over their own feet. It looked like an AA meeting gone wrong. Mind you, this is coming from someone who works in the alcohol industry & knows how to drink & have a good time. This is a hole in the ground kinda place... you heard me, I said ground not wall, considering you literally walk down a narrow stairwell to get to the little door in order to discover this little establishment. By the way, I do mean LITTLE, I've seen someone's bathroom bigger than this joint. Let's be real peeps... this place is put in the "Dive Bar" category for a reason. Besides, the place is called "Jeff's Bucket Shop," I seriously for the longest time don't even know of its existance... or what the heck Jeff is selling by the bucket, or if Jeff is trying to sell buckets, or who the heck is Jeff?! So yes, there maybe a little weird smell (frankly I don't even pay attention to it, and I have a super good nose, but I do have high tolerance for "weird smell" courtesy of my heritage lol). My personal suggestion is stop asking what the heck that smell is (because you probably don't want to know) and just keep drinking. I have been here mostly on Fridays and they have karaoke. I think they have karaoke on other nights too. Not sure if they always have the same host, and if he is the regular, let me warn you, he doesn't play... he will gong you off that stage like you're on Apollo if you are seriously tone-deaf. This place gets packed. So if you have issues with being too crowded, well... not sure if you want to sardine your way into here on a weekend night. And again, if you are the high-er maintanence type, you may want to stick with your "safer" choices and go next door or across the street or uptown. The List at karaoke is a lie Neo. You either pay to sing or wait for "the 3 people ahead of you". The good news is they have a liquor license and no detectable smell last night. To become a member is easy, fill out a form & pay a $1. As you wind down the corridor to the main room note the free popcorn machine. Yes, the place is tiny. Shockingly so. The front man at the door and bartending staff are polite and perfunctory so don't expect a lot of chit chat. They'll get your mixed drink or beer (choices are $4 drafts or bottles ) just fine and move on to the next thirsty patron. So the bar is really, really small. You'll easily be able to see & hear who's singing or judge the line at the bar. If you want to sign up to sing, you need only shuffle, squish and slip through the crowd to get to the books to pick your song. If you only want to be entertained by the likes of a death metal interpretation of Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball" you'll be all set. The bad news is if you want to sing. I get it the karaoke hostess works for tips. But 4 different individuals up on stage 4 times each, and seeing the same off key dude 6 times in 2 hours? Total bullshit. Tip for service after you sing, not tip just to even get service. When the rest of the audience groans with the lack of participant rotation I'm not out of place to knock off stars. Don't bother looking at the list on the hostess desk, because she's going in no discernible order, neither in the order signed up or juggling people by what they want to sing to keep the mood right. Nor in 45 minutes should one be told "there's 3 people ahead of you" multiple times. Fine place to drink or watch, terrible place to sing. read more
