There's always room for Jell-o!! Who hasn't had the flavorful light easy to make dessert? Just didn't realize this treat was created in Leroy NY. Super cute but a bit small museum showcases the history and culture behind its famous jiggle treat. Invented in 1897, super popular with their original flavors.. strawberry, raspberry, orange and lemon. I prefer lime myself! Lots of memorable though out the place. Huge spoons that were in NYC. Loved all the different marking campaigns over the years. From jell-o they moved on to pudding, and even Jell -o shots ! Something for everyone! read more

Small but packed, and totally worth the trip! We visited yesterday and were greeted right away by the friendly staff. They're doing contact tracing for COVID and asked for our phone number. We were then offered a verbal history of Jell-O, which was entertaining and informative. The displays are very interesting to look at for both kids and adults. There's flavors, artwork from the ads, molds, factory artifacts, a giraffe, and much more! It took us 20 minutes to get through. There's also a small gift shop. When you're done, definitely go downstairs to check out the exhibit by the Le Roy Historical Society. Details: - Admission is $4.50 for adults - Parking: look for the sign at the driveway. Pull in and you'll find parking right next to the building. - The Jell-O museum is part of the Le Roy historical society. Loved it here!!! So awesome! I knew nothing about the history of Jell-o before coming here. They take cash and some credit cards. It's such a cute museum and the people who work there are so friendly. When you come in, they do a quick overview about the history of Jell-o and then you can look around. There is a gift shop with some fun stuff too. In the basement, there is a transportation museum as well that has some interesting carriages, including a Jell-o one! If you are in the area you gotta stop by! read more

My brother mentioned that since my husband and I were driving up rather than flying, we might enjoy a stop at this museum. We certainly did. Growing up in a blue collar house hold mom & dad fed a family of 6. We didn't always like what she fixed, though I know the largest part of the budget was for food. She used Jello in many different ways as snacks and dessert to stretch that. For the most part it was fun, and mom was creative in making it fancier and/or artistic so it had eye appeal as well. Great on summer days. I think she concocted Jello jigglers on her own as a way it could become a finger food snack, esp in the summer. When we arrived we were asked if we'd like an overview. We said yes and it was a good introduction. The museum was really a trip down memory lane for both me and my husband. There are molds, cartoons, ads, and more. Everything except samples! Downstairs there is a transportation exhibit as well. It was a bit tricky to find. We expected a road off the Main Street, but it is more a driveway. There is a sign but we weren't sure from it's positioning if it was the drive just before or just after it. So we ended up going around the block. It is actually the building behind the Jello Historical Society. For the minimal $5 admission, we enjoyed ourselves for about an hour. We'd never really shared jello stories with each other but we both seemed to have lots of them. So glad we made this stop! read more

Are you a fan of the dessert there's always room for? (You have be over 40 to remember that advertising tag line!) I visited late last summer but was too late to actually tour the museum. I did make a couple of purchases from the gift shop, including a couple of clever refrigerator magnets. The museum is small but looks promising and seems like it would be a lot of fun! I returned some time later only to find the whole works is closed down - temporarily. The exec that I spoke with (briefly) that day suggested that the museum might reopen in April but that could be optimistic. I'll be back in the area this summer and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the museum will reopen by then! *&^%$#! Covid. (Incidentally, Jell-O was invented in LeRoy and was manufactured in LeRoy until 1964. The former Jell-O factory is not far from the museum but unless you're a devoted fan of Jell-O and insist on making a pilgrimage, there's nothing to see there except a brick building and a historical marker.) read more

Started with one of the friendly staff members giving us a quick history of the company, then we checked out all the exhibits. 6/16/20 Is there always room for Jell-O? The company and many others seem to think so.  Some love how it wiggles and shakes. Others love how it melts in your mouth.  While others just love to play with their food.  If you really wanna take it to the extreme,  you take a nude bath in a tub of Jell-O. Yes, there is always room for Jell-O in all your 2000 parts. Okay, I am getting off topic... I have tried a number of different types of Jell-O products from Puddings to Jell-O gelatin. However,  I just saw something I might have to aquire today...or when we go to the beach this coming Saturday.  In one of the pictures for Jell-O, I saw Watermelon Jell-O.  Mmm Mmm good. I had watermelon this past weekend and it was delicious.  Now I want to try out this flavored Jell-O. I am thinking about this being my go to snack, but I will need to look up the calories and other ingredients to make a decision.    I am in a process of losing weight and exercising, but I won't shutdown all of my cravings.  I do need to increase intake of vegetables. Maybe bled, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach,  kale, avocados and peaches to get my share of vegetables and fruits...asparagus comes to mind too, but I would need one more fruit people mistake as a vegetable...any ideas? WAIT A MINUTE, just after writing what I wrote, my mind shouted "John Fox!, you know that vegetable and fruit thing isn't right."  I did a search and got my mind blown on a number of things, but I think I will save this for another topic.   Jell-O is a good thing on those hot or la y days. I picture myself laying on a hammock eating some watermelon Jell-O and listening to Beautiful Asian Music:    Fantsy&World by The Fiechters. Off in the distance I can hear the sounds of the ocean. Very peaceful...  Yes, there is always room for water and Jell-O. On Columbus Day weekend, we did some local road-tripping to enjoy the fall foliage. The Jello-O Gallery has been on my radar for a family fun day for years, and we finally made it there. Sure glad we did! What a cute, jiggly little slice of local history to explore. The museum is small, but our kids are old enough now (8 and 11), where reading exhibits holds their attention for a bit. There are some hands-on activities, too. You can do a scavenger hunt that guides you through interesting Jell-O factoids. So fascinating how the history of Jell-O touches on so much more beyond just the gelatinous sweet treat. After you have your fill of Jello-O knowledge, downstairs is an exhibit on the history of transportation. And the house in front of the gallery building is run by the Le Roy Historical Society, who provide an overview of the town's namesake founders. FYI - The first women's college in the US existed right in Le Roy! (Look it up, Ingham University, est. 1835.) We had a Groupon deal, so four admissions and a t-shirt was right around $20. We bought a second tee for our second kiddo, which are really cute and good quality shirts. Make a day of it, and explore some of the other country-kitsch fun in Wyoming and Genesee counties while you are there. (i.e., Letchworth, Pully's Farm Market, the Barn Quilt Trails, Monk's Bread Abbey, etc.) read more

I passed through the little city of Leroy a couple years ago and made a mental note to visit sometime when I had some time. Well, today was the day. I received either a AAA or military discount, I'm not sure which at this point. Great museum! Lots of old advertising and old Jello packages. Lots of local history downstairs. Displays of area businesses that have thrived along the way. A great place, overall. Don't forget to visit the souvenir store on the way out! read more

If you live in Rochester and have $4.50... this is probably something to do one day. Don't rush or anything... but it's pretty hilarious. Our guide regaled us with the invention of Jell-O and it's rise to popularity. It was fairly interesting but she also said some bizarre things like: - "space person" instead of astronaut - "you know because not every country speaks English" as she pointed to the boxes of jello from different countries. - "this is a Norman Rockwell original" to a painting that was by an entirely different painter (Norman Rockwell did some of the jell-o ads which are displayed but aren't originals) My favorite part of the museum was the log where people indicate their favorite jell-o memory... amidst the typical -It wasn't Thanksgiving without my grandma's lime jell-o with pineapples! -Jell-o jigglers were the best! someone wrote that they use the black cherry in nursing school to mimic hemorrhaging during child birth! HA! ....gross. I do think it's worth mentioning the NO SAMPLES thing is stupid. They want you to vote for your favorite flavor? Nah, y'all I need a refresher. Give me some of that orange and some of that strawberry and let me think a bit. It IS entertaining though. read more

"Jello Again"; that's how Jack Benny opened many of his radio broadcasts when his show was Number One. I am a devotee of old radio in general and Jack Benny in particular. A trip to the museum in nearby Leroy has always been on my bucket list. It was a very interesting hour. I love origin stories and Jello's is educational in more ways than one. Make room in your schedule for a visit, there is always room for Jello. read more

When I was looking around New York I saw this place and I thought it was going to be really cheesy and stupid, but man was I shocked to see how wonderful this was! During COVID it's free to get in and look around, but you can donate and shop in the gift shop to support this fantastic little place. The people who were there, they were very nice and gave us a little JELL-O history! I didn't know how much there was to know about JELL-O! The gift shop was very affordable and I adored everything that was there! And if you want, you can call and ask for them to ship to you if you are too far away to travel to this awesome little spot! read more

After a joke started about taking my husband to the Jell-o factory for his 33rd birthday, I surprised him and we did just that! It's small, but we honestly had a lot of fun. Admittance is cheap, and we even saved money by being AAA members! We did the scavenger hunt and enjoyed reading and learning to find the answers. The taxidermied giraffe and original Jell-O girl were kind of creepy, but they seem to have removed most of the Bill Cosby displays which I guess lowers the overall creep factor. I'm a sucker for a good face-in-a-hole, so enjoy the photos of my husband in those. The ladies running the place were very nice and even let my husband take home a box of Jell-o for free for his birthday. The transportation museum downstairs was semi-interesting as well. My only real complaint was that it was very difficult to find. There is no sign and it is tucked back off the road behind a house. Otherwise, it was a great stop between Rochester & Buffalo on our birthday adventures. read more

Who would've known that Jell-O originated in upstate NY? This museum is worth visiting if only to say that you've been to a museum about Jell-O. :) Admission is only about $5 (and they offer a AAA discount as well). There's a small carriage museum in the basement. A guide will sit you down when you arrive and briefly explain the (short) history of Jell-O, and then you're free to browse the gallery. Highlights include the ceiling of spoons, voting for your favorite jello flavor, the Jell-O brick road, and my personal favorite, all the crazy advertisements the Jell-O company has come out with over the years. I mean seriously. You definitely need some serious advertising if you want people to eat Jello with their salads. The museum itself is pretty small, but it has it's own little gift shop where you can buy Jell-O and novelty Jell-O boxers that say "Watch it jiggle! Watch it wiggle!" on them. There isn't much to do in Le Roy proper besides this see this museum, the historical society next door, and visit the Depot restaurant. Half a day is more than enough time to see the main bits of Le Roy, with about 45 minutes of that dedicated to the Jell-O Gallery. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this museum since it is really small, but if you're a real fan or if you're in the area, definitely check it out. read more

This summer, we finally made a stop here with our little dudes in tow. Bill Cosby jokes aside - we had a blast learning about the Jell-O of yesteryear and all the cool facts that came with it. Very cool gift shop - we bought a brain mold to make a green Jell-O brain for Halloween and the sweet tour guides gave me recipes for Jell-O pretzel salad & for Jell-O 1-2-3 (whose mixes RIP'ed from store shelves in 1996)! Our guide, Ruth was funny and gracious- good little presentation before the self- guided tour. The gallery is filed with collectibles and historical facts which are sure to bring back personal memories for any visitor. A daily sampler of a jell-o recipe would make it 5-stars! Because of my initial mix-perception that it was a "factory" tour and the jell-o "story" leave me craving some jell-o. If nothing else... They should sell jell-o cups. What's your favorite flavor? I saw the pamphlets for this museum, as well as a billboard on the 90, so I decided to stop. Le Roy has a cute little downtown, which I wished I could have spent more time at. The Jello museum is behind the historical building, but a big sign out front that points it out. Going inside, you realize it's more like 2 rooms than your typical museum size. It cost $4 for adults, which I thought it was a little high, but thought differently after we left. They start tours when it's needed, and go over a brief history. I was really shocked that little Le Roy was where Jello had first started, you'd never expect it! They have tons of old advertising and some great facts. They created a jello brain and tested it at U of R and concluded it has the same wavelengths as a real brain! (you can purchase the mold in the gift shop so make your own jello brain) The best part it by far the short 10 minute video of Bill Cosby's Jello commercials over the past twenty years. We did the, "oh, I remember that one, and THAT one too!" I was disappointed that they didn't carry jello packets at the gift shop because I was definitely craving some halfway thru. Turns out, the clerk said it wasn't cost effective to carry them... Too bad! Also a transportation museum is downstairs that has a bunch of early modes of transport around the early 1900's. read more

On a recent family trip driving across the country from the midwest a little past Niagara Falls - we stumbled upon a flyer about Jell-O Gallery/Museum. Anne gave us a 5-10 minute history of Jell-O and it was quite a story. The museum was small - but very interesting and reasonably priced. My 10 year daughter old loved it - she loved doing a scavenger hunt and learning about the different Jell-O flavors. My wife enjoyed learning about the history of Jell-o and could have stayed much longer. For me - a 45 minute break was a nice treat (however, you could go through it in 20 minutes or spend up to two hours depending on what you want to learn). The staff was very friendly and they had a nice little gift shop. Also, they have a great Groupon deal if you have 4 or more people interested in visiting. read more

What an absolutely spectacular hole-in-the-wall find. We visited the Jello Gallery over Columbus Day Weekend for some amusement, and if you approach the museum this way you're in for some knee-slapping laughter. Our sides ached from bellying laughing all the way from the parking lot to the gift shop (mind you, a grand total of about 30 feet in distance). We began our tour in the basement transportation exhibit, a seemingly random and hoarder-like display of wooden sleighs and buggies. When the ancient storytelling docent was available to recite the history of Jello--about as old and worn as the museum itself--we came back upstairs and sat like schoolchildren on benches to listen to her robotic recitation. Then, with our interests fully "jiggled," we explored the remaining 20 square feet of posters, memorabilia, and displays. Keep your eyes peeled for the plentiful Bill Cosby references, the watercolor Jello paintings, all the spoons (so, so many spoons), and the brand new Jello mold display that was being installed as we visited. To cap off the visit be sure to check out the utterly non-sequitural taxidermied giraffe head named Sebastian who has oddly retired to the museum after a long tenure at a traveling circus (alive) and the local Pontillo's pizzeria (dead). Don't leave without exploring the gift shop as well, where you can fully appreciate how seriously the people of LeRoy take the wiggly technicolored dessert. We picked up an antique mini-Jello mold and a garish "Hell-O" doormat to forever remember this visit. read more

We stumbled across LeRoy when we were on an eight hour drive. LeRoy is a quaint town that is definately very proud of their heritage. The meusaum was fun, but not nearly as big as one would expect. It was great to hear the history of how this product got started. My kids were not as amused as I was, but I am blaming that on their ages (5 and 1 1/2). This is worth a quick stop, you probably only need to alot 30-45 minutes for the tour. I like others would have really appreciated some samples of Jell-O or at least the oppurtunity to buy some premade Jell-O for the kids after the tour. The Jello Museum was a very pleasant place to visit. The workers there were friendly and knowlegable. Although small it was an interactive good time and the gift shop has awesome gifts and t-shirts that are great souveniers to take home and share with friends. If you find yourself in the LeRoy area this is a fun and affordable stop. read more

Take the time to stop in. About 20 minutes off the NYS Thruway between Rochester and Buffalo. The showpiece is a Rockwell ad done for Jello. The rest is various memborilia, the hosts give you a great 10 minute overview on how Jello came to be. It was well done for a small museum (30 minutes) plus a Transportation museum in the basement. 1908 Caddy is the draw. read more
