5 stars aren't enough! We ordered Jemil's Big Easy for a Juneteenth celebration at our school. Firstly, they were super responsive and friendly. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs. We felt super spoiled. We had a wide variety of dishes and every single one was raved about! I personally loved the Cajun Mac n Cheese. They better keep that recipe a secret or something because its that good. I will definitely patronize this business with my family in the future! read more

Oh my lord, I am so impressed with this place. The coworkers and I ordered from Peach delivery but even with delivery , we were all so in love with our food. In fact, one of my co worker exclaimed that if she died on the spot, she can go happy. Keep in mind, that this is mass delivery and I left hot food sitting for a good half hour before I picked it up from my office lobby. That alone should be a testament on the quality of their food. I dare say this is one of the best places Peach has delivered from. Be forewarned that this place packs heat in their food! I ordered the Cajun shrimp with veggie and I almost cried from the spiciness. However, at the same time, this dish had so much flavor that I could not stop eating. I particularly liked the soft corn bread with the subtle hint of sweetness. It was the perfect complement to the spicy Cajun shrimp. In addition, I was extremely shocked by the amount of shrimp in my dish. Usually, there would be about two or three tiny shrimps in a "shrimp entree" , but this place packed a lot and decently sizes too! Overall, I highly recommend this place. Every time I see Jemil's food truck at Westlake, people line up before they even open. Got in line around noon and the line was at least 12 deep but I really wanted to try them and the menu looked pretty good too from Po' Boys, Etouffes, Gumbo, Jambalayas, Blackened fish, fried goodies etc. I decided to get their Catfish Po'Boy Sandwich, pretty good sandwich, fried catfish, heavily seasoned, good amount of lettuce & tomato with their remoulade sauce all served on a crusty bread. My co-worker got the Chicken Po'Boy and she liked it very much too. We also shared some fried okra, salty but tasty! They go pretty heavy handed on the salt and seasoning. Po'Boys are a nice size and definitely filling. Depending on the meat you get, the sandwiches can range from $10-$13. I have nothing but good things to say about Jemil's! In the Seattle downtown area on Tuesdays, this food truck is a popular choice for my office. Menu items are a bit on the pricier side for lunch - but what do you expect when you work downtown? I always keep an eye out for their daily specials, which they post on their Facebook page. My favorite has to be the crawfish mac & cheese - delish! This truck tends to get a huge line during lunch, so my advice is to go early if you can. With Where Ya At Matt sidelined from the Mobile Food Rodeo event, I decided to give the new Cajun food truck, Jemil's Big Easy a try. The truck had a limited menu for the event. Hence, there were no po-boys or muffalettas unfortunately. Given the large crowds, I think they would have been too hard to serve. The event menu instead focused on four things. Gumbo, jamabalya, etouffee and a pasta dish called crawfish monica. I decided to give the Cajun sampler ($6) which included a sampling of the jambalaya, shrimp etouffee and crawfish monica on one plate. My feelings on these dishes as a main might be different, but as a sampler these three items work well. A very flavorable mix of Cajun food. I was unfamiliar with the crawfish monica dish previously since I wasn't sure what it was. Turns out it is kind of like a pasta alfredo dish. It was arguably my favorite of the three. Mostly because it was a pleasant surprise. Nice to see that there is another good Cajun food truck option in town. I would give this truck a try again if only to get the full version of the dishes I tried. Would also like to try the oyster po-boy to see how it compares to Where Ya At Matt. read more

I ordered food from Jemil's Big Easy through ChowNow for immediate pick-up. When I got there, they were closed for two more days. I called Jemil's Big Easy to explain what happened and to cancel my order. They verbally agreed to cancel my order. I tried to confirm through email, but they never responded. 2 days layer I was charged the full amount (about $50). I tried contacting them again, no response. I tried going through ChowNow customer service. ChowNow made a minimal attempted to contact the restaurant as well, but they also received no response. I can appreciate a mistake, but this feels intentional at this point. read more

TL;DR: If you want to place an order for pickup from Jemil's, it's a good idea to call first to see if they're open. Food from Jemil's has always been great - best fried okra I've ever had, anywhere. Today, though, I placed an order, with a pickup time scheduled for about two hours later (during posted business hours). Order platform (ChowNow) indicated the order was received. Went to pick up order at the scheduled time, but no one was there. ChowNow, to their credit, called within 30 minutes of the scheduled pickup time to see if I'd gotten my order, because they could see in their system that the order cycle hadn't been completed. ChowNow immediately processed a refund. Based on this experience, on a similar Yelp review in April this year, and on looking at Jemil's social media, I wonder if they're still in business at all (no recent posts). I do hope they survive - the food is so good! But if they are still in business, they should update the order platform to not accept orders if they are closed or can't fulfill them. read more

The food isn't bad. I lived in New Orleans for four years so I know what good New Orleans food should taste like. It's very hard to find good Cajun food in the Seattle area, so you can do much worse than this place. Sampler with the blackened catfish, red beans and rice, and jambalaya was pretty good. I wish their jambalaya had shrimp in it though, it was definitely a little lacking. The fried okra was freshly fried so it was hot and delicious. Service is what you can expect from a place like this, laid back and friendly albeit a little slow. Certainly not worth going out of my way to get food from this food truck, but if I'm craving the taste of New Orleans, I wouldn't mind if it was in my vicinity. read more

Watch out for this guy! The first time I ordered from you simply cancel my order right when it was due to be delivered. At least she refunded me my money. I decided to give him another chance and this time I never repaired my order or did anything at all, except keep my money. He totally ripped me off for a meal. This truck came to our parking lot today. It smelled so good and the food was even better. I had the blackened shrimp Po'boy sandwich. It was huge...I could only eat one half and saved the rest for tomorrow's lunch. Great portion sizes and plenty of large shrimp! There are only so many different things to say about the way each food truck operates--this one has an established tendency to cover lunch hour in south lake union, and I see them with some frequency. Finally got to check them out today. The basics: Half a dozen things on the menu They take credit/debit cards Very small selection of drinks from what I could see Good food Quick service OK prices There are po boys, gumbo, jumbalaya, etouffe. The stuff you expect to see. I had the gumbo, which showed plenty of sausage but was a little less generous with veg and other ingredients. Mostly a sausage and rice dish, though a delicious one. Pretty salty--kinda reminded me of how salty Zatarain's stuff can be out of the box, though this seemed scratch made for sure. Good, though. $10 for a nice helping that will fill me up all day. This is a bittersweet review for me. For the past couple months he was coming to the Tukwila area, but that ended today. Now I will be unable to be within walking distance of his delicious food. I've been following Jemil since he was at the Northwest AA museum years back. I remember the first time I bit into one of his po boy's, I nearly cracked my teeth from biting down so hard. Now he's got his own truck and serves the best po- boys in Seattle. I love the shrimp po-boy's but my favorite dish was his fried mac and cheese with crawfish sauce. I really don't think I'm meant for the food truck craze. I always get excited about having so many options so close to work, but I always end up feeling like I paid entirely too much. Despite a very solid representation of Cajun food, Jemil's isn't really an exception to that. To be fair, the food at Jemil's is very, very good. The Shrimp Po Boy is downright delicious. It's the perfect combination of meaty shrimp, spicy sauce and crusty bread. If I'm honest, it's actually somewhat reasonable at $7.99... and if you're ordering something, it's probably the only thing I can recommend. The chicken etouffee? I'm told it's great... but $9 for what is essentially an over-sized cup just doesn't jive with me. Knock $2 off the price and you've got on helluva lunch. Oh, and $5 is too much for bread pudding, bread pudding they forgot and I had to walk a couple blocks back to get, is too much. Again, knock about $2 off the price and maybe you've got something. Hands down my new favorite food truck in town. Fast, accepts credit cards, and amazing flavors = win. I had the blackened shrimp Po'boy and hush puppies, and my cousin had the jambalaya and Cajun fries. I loved every messy bite of my sandwich - it was so flavorful with just the right amount of spicy tang that I quickly regretted not buying a water or drink to go with it! The hush puppies were everything I was looking for and the remoulade was just right in flavor and consistency. I tried my cousins Cajun fries and they were a nice twist on a classic. She enjoyed her jambalaya as well. I only wish they offered a jambalaya without sausage so I could have tried it "nawleans style." I'm afraid with this one, I found this truck disappointing. I went to this one at the Everett Street Food Festival and got the catfish and chips. I was very interested because I LOVE catfish. Unfortunately, nothing worked very well. The fish was under-fried and under-seasoned. There wasn't a whole heck of a lot of it either. It came with frozen french fries that were generously covered with a seasoning salt. The fries were only mediocre as well. It also came with two sauces. The menu didn't describe them. One seemed to be a remoulade sauce and the other one seemed to be a fruit or a mango sauce. The sauces were good, but not enough to compensate, especially since i don't know what they were. I think something had a lot of garlic in it, but I couldn't be sure. I was also a bit unsatisfied in terms of the price. For $9 I got a rather small paper boat that wasn't overflowing by any means. With trucks, I tend to expect a better value. Just one guy's opinion. read more

Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm. Crawfish Monica is the bomb! Okay, I may be a little biased since "Monica" is an awesome name. Still, Chef Jemil knows how to work it out! Customer Service - The first time I visited Jemil's was at the Fremont Mobile Food Rodeo. I've been a fan ever since. It doesn't matter who I talk to at that truck, they are always exceptionally friendly and I love Jemil's easy going manner. He ALWAYS has a kind word for me, even when he sees me walking down the street. Julie is always super nice as well. Food - Oh, my. The food is really good. The standard menu is good but the specials - the specials are where it's at. I'm ashamed to say I haven't made it to the truck for fried chicken yet but I'm working on it. One of my favorites is catfish - seasoned perfectly, fried to a crisp, and so flavorful. Po' boy? Forget about it! Take your socks off or they'll get knocked off! Jemil's truck is now at the 2nd and Pike food truck pod. That is 1 block away from my office so lawd help me from getting obese by year end! I am a big fan of Jemil's. I love his fried catfish and chips. Good cornmeal batter that is well seasoned and not too heavy. The fries are just ok - they are run-of-the-mill frozen fries I think. Definitely not from freshly cut potatoes like at the Skillet truck. The crawfish étouffée is also yummy. Sometimes they have BBQ shrimp with cheesy grits and that is very tasty although be forewarned - it is kinda greasy. I had to spoon out a puddle of oil. I would not recommend the peach cobbler. The pastry was sticky and resembled extra thick soggy croissant dough. The peaches are canned so don't expect fresh peaches in the cobbler. Tips: lines are longest between 11:30-12:45. Go at 11 am or 1 pm. Once you order the food takes between 1-8 minutes depending on what you order They do take credit cards. read more

Tried Jemil's at their Wallingford stop by Yougurtland and UW. Must say that this was some wonderful gumbo. It had a very generous amount of delicious sausage inside and had great spices. The corn bread was of great portion size and had a great flavor kick to it. The staff is what puts this place above the top, they are wonderful, genuine and have exceptional service. Having a shell fish allergy, I appreciate that the cook/ possible owner was so generous to take the time to let me know exactly what would be safe to eat and take my dietary needs seriously. Although my options here are limited, I will be very happy to return again when I see this wonderful food truck! For the picture about the value for the price, remember, you pay for quality. This is quality food from a great local business. One word to describe their Catfish étouffée. ORGASMIC! Wifie brought me left overs one day as Jemils was at her work! And MAN! I have not stopped thinking about it since!!!! Heard they're were at the Des Moines farmers market on Saturday. So I grabbed a couple orders cause I dont play when it comes to food. Good food! And it is so tasty! You need to taste the love and energy that was placed into this dish! Truly spectacular! God gave Jemil a talent to deliver to his people a gift from heaven. Im am grateful! I waited in the long line with great expectations for Jemil's Big Easy; perhaps that was my downfall, I really wanted to love it. I tried the Jambalaya with a side of cheesy grits. The jambalaya was mildly spicy, I could've used a lot more flavour, and it was just a tad on the dry side. The cheesy grits were definitely cheesy, but still not as tasty as Toulouse's (which has set my grits standard in Seattle). On a foodie road trip and using a combination of yelp, triple d, various magazine reviews and personal suggestions to eat our way up to Seattle and then back down through Portland to the Bay Area. After we finished with our morning Pike Place Market Food Tour, we walked around sampling more local eats. We found one cart and three trucks nearby but they were closing up because they have to by 2p.m. I asked Jemil if he could scoop me up an order of Shrimp Etoufee before he finished packing up and he graciously agreed to accommodate us. While we waited, he even gave us a large sample of his blackened chicken and deep fried cornmeal crusted catfish. Mmmmmmmmm. I have to be honest, the blackened chicken didn't excite me. The seasoning was very flavorful but the chicken was just a tad dry. Perhaps if we had ordered it earlier in the day, it would have been more juicy. On the other hand, the catfish was great! It was moist and very flavorful. And then there was the Shrimp Etoufee. The roux wasn't as dark as we've had it elsewhere but the flavor was spot on! Nice fat shrimp, lots of onions, bell peppers and celery. Just the right amount of heat and enough juice to make the rice on bottom oh so sexy! read more

I've tried Jemil's Big Easy twice now: the first time at a food festival and the second time in downtown Seattle. I got the oyster po-boy both times, though I know I should try something else on their menu too! The oyster po-boy was so good the first time around that I couldn't resist. It's a good sized sandwich, loaded with oysters, pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes. It's more then enough to fill you up and put you into a food coma in the middle of the work day. It's quite messy to eat though, so make sure you have plenty of napkins handy. There is a special sauce that is drizzled on the sandwich that drips out as you bite into the sandwich. It's a minor inconvenience compared to the delicious sandwich. I'd rate my first visit a strong 5 stars, but today's visit just 4 stars. Today's sandwich seemed overly pickle-y and two pieces of oysters were very chewy...to the point where I had to spit it out. Most of it was good, but I would have loved all the oysters to be moist and juicy for a $13 sandwich. I'd recommend this place, and definitely recommend the oyster po-boy. The gumbo was chock full of meat, rice, and spices. The po' boy was packed with flavorful shrimp. I could only eat half of my gumbo and half of my sandwich because there was so much food. We had Jemils cater our wedding reception just recently. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the food and the people. First of all, it's an amazing deal for catering. It was all you can eat off the truck, with basically everything they have to offer, and it came out to half the price of other food trucks. It doesn't even compare to what a sit down caterer would try and charge. Second, the food is crazy good. Like seriously seriously seriously good. Every person at our party was raving about the grub, myself include. Personal faves was the catfish sampler and the shrimp po boy. Finally, the staff is amazing. We worked closely with Julie who was incredibly helpful, communicative, and even came out to a vendor walk through to finalize details. I had the chicken etouffee (pronounced ay-TOO-fay). It was mad good! You basically get this giant cup of rice with chicken and this rich roux sauce, coupled with some veggies like peppers, etc. The chicken was not dry at all, and the sauce was perfect. For me who can't tolerate spice, it is a little spicy (I had to get milk afterwards) but it leaves a good warm feeling in your stomach. I also just tried the chicken and sausage gumbo bowl for $7.99. It was extremely soup (as gumbo is). It was rather oily and a little on the salty side but I was left full from the meal. There were chunks of chicken and some sausage in there as well as some celery. Minor complaints: the lines can get really long, and they charge additional sales tax on food (most food trucks, from what I have seen, just list a price on their menus with tax included). My etouffee came out to be around $9, which is a little pricey for a food truck, but the thickness of the sauce does leave you pretty full for lunch! read more

I tried Jemil's for the first time last Sunday. Today is only Tuesday and I've gone back there twice already! I had following menu items in the last 3 days and I loved every single item, down to every bite! Beans and rice - the beans were SO good. What do they do make the beans taste so damn good?? Cajun spicy combo - red beans, jambalaya and a piece of blackened cat fish. Jambalaya was spicy but had a great depth in flavor. Blackened catfish was perfectly done. Chicken étouffée - it was SPICY but again, delicious. If you don't like spicy, I would stay away from this. Oyster po boy - this was my most favorite of all!!! Oysters were crispy, the sauce was good and the sandwich was not soggy like some other ones I have had in the past. Cajun Spicy Combo - Blackened Catfish, Jambalaya, and Beans/Rice ($9) - 4/5. Yum! What a surprisingly large portion that's absolutely tasty as well. Jambalaya had a variety of spices. Blackened catfish was right at the perfect point where it's blackened, but not carcinogenic. Beans and rice was average. Without a doubt, this is my recommendation Gumbo ($8) - 4/5. Award winning gumbo? This is a definite must have and I can see why it's so well rated and won awards. Very different layers of flavors from the smoked sausage and chicken shreds. First came to this Creole truck three weeks ago at the suggestion of a coworker, and was not disappointed. The line was long but moved quickly, the woman taking orders was very friendly, and the food did not disappoint. Ordered a medium Big Easy Gumbo, which was the perfect size for lunch. The gumbo was full of sausage and chicken, although the spice and saltiness of the sausage in addition to the spices of the soup made it a bit too spicy for my taste. Came back a second time and ordered a large Jambalaya, which was much less spicy and enough for a lunch and afternoon snack. Same great service and quick line. They also take card, which is a plus. I would suggest the Jambalaya over the Gumbo, mostly because it isn't as hot. read more
