No trip to Columbus is complete without a trip to Jeni's for me. They had recently launched a lot of new to me flavors so I was excited to visit. This is the furthest ice cream from splendid. It was actually abhorrent. I got the "Snow Cone" flavor, which is brambleberry, watermelon, and pink lemonade. I gagged and dry heaved multiple times. This flavor is so strongly sweet, and so overpowering. It tasted sour, in a spoilt way. Rotten. I've never regretted a purchase more. Like actually do not buy this. It was so disgusting. I tried offering it to a group of rebellious teenagers on the side of the road and even THEY denied it. My deceased dog wouldn't even want a lick of this. This ice cream was so wretched and made me dry heave a couple times. Not to mention they CHARGE you to dine inside the restaurant. What???? We aren't in England. The usual Jeni's experience. Great ice cream, free samples, great service. We had a coupon, and were nearby, so of course we came in on a warm spring day. Not super busy but a steady stream. Baby K got a waffle bowl with vanilla, and loved both components. I tried a couple of the new "spacy" flavors and ended up with a scoop of each in a waffle cone. I think I liked the Nebula the best. The texture of this ice cream is incomparable to any other ice cream I have ever had. It even tasted BETTER as it melts. Jenis is an experience. I got the almond and gooey cake. Very good ice cream, but it is on the expensive side, 3 scoops is seven bucks. Wide variety of flavors, with nondairy choices to. The flavors are classic with a twist, real ingredients, not artificial flavor and colors. Plus this is a C-bus original. Always a line, but people in this line are happy to talk to you about their favorite Jenn's flavors. Waffle cones and bowls are made in front of you, the flavor is slight sweet with a little hint of salt so it does not overwhelm any of the ice cream flavors. Jeni's ice cream does not fail to disappoint!! Their ice cream comparatively tastes more creamy and flavorful to me than other brands I've tried. I do not have a Jeni's ice cream near where I live (can only buy from other retailers such as Whole Foods) so I had to stop by while I was in the area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They patiently gave out free samples as I pondered my choices and even offered a brief description of each flavor as I tasted each one. The gooey butter cake was my favorite - the ice cream was the flavor of cake batter and there were actual chunks of cake mixed in. It was a perfect, creamy balance of sweet and slightly salty. Also other great flavors I tried - cookies and cream, buttercream birthday cake, and honey vanilla. I got my ice cream in a freshly made waffle bowl. The store smelled so nice from all the sweet waffle batter being cooked. The store had a casual seating area for those who wanted to stay and eat their ice cream. I am a bit behind on my reviews (maybe 50+)? What can I say, it's been a busy year?! However, I plan to play catch-up over the next few weeks! So, here we go... My daughter and I love this Jeni's location. We love the staff members as they are always so friendly and upbeat! They always let us try various flavors of ice cream if we are unsure of what we want and they are always quick to serve. My daughter usually gets a scoop of ice cream in a bowl with sprinkles and I typically get a scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. The waffle cones are simply the best as they are made fresh daily! The aroma of the freshly-made waffle cones is absolutely heavenly! I always love walking into a Jeni's location as the smell is enough to sweeten your day! Living in Indianapolis, we don't have a shop, so I made an effort to stop in and experience freshly scooped Jeni's ice cream, not from a grocery store freezer. I loved that they placed the updated menu outside, so you can make up your mind as you wait in the line to enter. They were very conscious about COVID precautions when we came in Spring 2021. I went with the lavender flavor (of course) and the brambleberry crisp in a cup. It was super tasty, but the lavender flavor didn't shine through as much as I was hoping for. Finally the peanut butter and I am a peanut butter lover, this has lead to my instant regret of not coming in sooner rather then my last day. The weather warms up and I get ice cream on my mind! We stopped by the other night for an after-dinner treat. They have their Covid protocol down to a science. You line up outside and they let you know when you can enter the shop, to limit the number of customers inside. You exit through a different door in the back. I went with the "salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks", thinking it would be like a reeses peanut butter cup (my favorite). Sadly, it was much more sweet than it was salty. Too sweet for my taste. I had order envy when my better half got the "darkest chocolate" flavor. Oh my goodness was that rich and delicious. We were looking for frozen yogurt, but they only had a dairy free option. My husband eneded up getting the Lemon Bar which had a coconut base. He had a few bites then pitched it. I enjoyed my coffee ice cream which had a characteristic Jeni's smooth and soft texture. The coffee flavor was outstanding and not too overwhelming. I have been seeing my friend's and family get a lot of Jeni's recently during these past 3 months and one flavor in general caught my eye to try. I hadn't had Jeni's in over a year. Columbus people would be like you haven't had this ice cream in a year, are you kidding me? No joke, I was on a diet and other factors to avoid much sugar intake. Although I do treat myself now and then for doing well on the diet. The flavor that caught my eye was Dr. Brad's post of the Dairy Free Lemon Bar flavor. I do have to say social media plays a big role on when I choose to try something. I got in line 6 feet apart of course, waited for my turn to order a pint of the dairy free lemon bar, boston cream pie and my husband's favorite bramleberry crisp. Each $10 for the pints. I enjoyed my dairy free lemon bar as it had notes of lemon shortbread, coconut and topped with lemon. Reminded me a bit of a pina colada except dairy free version. My husband loved the new Boston Cream Pie flavor as it was definitely decadent with the rich chocolate flavor mixed with everything you can imagine a Boston Cream Pie would have in it. This is definitely worth try guys along with their new Lemon Bar! I will be back soon to get more of the lemon bar and boston cream pie! Probably also sample other flavors as well as I didn't know of I would like the wild berry lavender, I definitely need to try it. In Columbus there is a constant question you can ask. Graters or Jeni's? For me the answer is yes. Jeni's is what I would call small batch artisanal icecream. It's clear their flavor profile creators have culinary knowledge. They layer complex flavors and use the finest ingredients and that makes the icecream exquisite. If you are out with adults, or foodies during the fall you can stop into Jeni's for flavors like Sweet Potato with Torched Marshmallow. BTW this flavor is every bit the epicurian delight that it's name would indicate. My personal favorite. It's almost Thanksgiving in your mouth. First you taste the sweet creamy sweet potato and brown sugar, followed quickly by the wood fired singed marshmalloows. At Christmas you have flavors like Boozy Eggnog and Middle West Whiskey Pecan. These are both rich, creamy and delicious. For the Uber, hipster, foodie crowd there is the staple goat cheese with cherries, Blackberry Bramble or Brioche Toast with Apricot Preserves icecream. In all if you are in Columbus and love food give Jeni's a chance. I am giving four stars not five for the cost. At 10 or 12 per pint Jeni's is spendy for ice cream. read more

Jeni's ice cream is indeed SPLENDID. I wish I could give a better review, but I saw the Gooey Butter Cake right after I stepped in line, and I knew it was the one for me. The lady in front of me confirmed this (she said it was her go to flavor). I didn't try anything else. I was tempted to go back in line after finishing my cone to sample a bit of everything, but the line was long, and people continued coming through the front door in a pretty steady stream. A single scoop cone is $5.00...I guess that's pretty typical (I'm still living in 1992, so it seems a bit pricey for me)? The staff were very helpful. Jeni's Ice Cream is a Columbus staple. It's almost always packed when we're there but it's definitely worth the wait. It's my favorite ice cream in Columbus and probably ever. They hire the friendliest staff that either don't mind or are faking it really well when people want to try ten different ice cream flavors and get the same thing they always do. They really are the most helpful and patient and act like it's no big deal and it happens all day. Not that I do that or anything. This was my first time trying Jeni's ice cream in store. I came around 1:00 pm on a weekday and was warmly greated by the individuals behind the counter. They were super helpful and also allowed us to try multiple flavors before putting in our orders. The super great part about sampling ice cream flavors at Jeni's is that they give you your samples on metal spoons that are reusable. Saving the planet one ice cream sample at a time! I had a half scoop of the cold brew with coconut cream (dairy free) and another half scoop of coffee with cream and sugar (regular ice cream. I hate drinking coffee, but I LOVE coffee flavored ice creams. Both of the flavors were delicious in their own ways. The cold brew with coconut cream had a perfect balance of coffee flavor and it balanced well with the bursts of coconut. If you are lactose intolerant, I would highly recommend you try this flavor out. The coffee with cream and sugar flavor had a creamier mouthfeel, which was expected since it was not dairy free. It is probably one of the best coffee ice creams I have ever had. Overall, it was a very positive experience and I would highly recommend anyone to visit this Jeni's location. One of the few eateries I've been to that I can say definitely lives up to the hype! I go here every time I'm in Columbus, Ohio even though Jeni's now has grown in popularity to be available nationwide with select flavors in frozen pints at grocery stores such as Whole Foods and Vons. The ingredients in Jeni's artisan ice cream are all natural and locally sourced (milk from cows no more than 200 miles away, according to the website). You can taste the freshness and quality in every spoonful, and it's not sweet and artificial like other ice cream. The salty caramel is Jeni's first ever (and signature) flavor but you'll want to try all the others as well as the changing seasonal varieties. Tonight I got a trio of half scoops for $5.85: churro (seasonal), pistachio and honey, and salty caramel. I didn't even know that pistachio ice cream is not supposed to be green! Jeni's version was brightly refreshing in my mouth. The churro was outstanding as it had crispy churro bits and an assertive cinnamon flavor balance with a delicate creaminess. GET THE CHURRO ICE CREAM WHILE IT'S STILL AROUND. I've been to Jeni's a half dozen times but tonight finally just tried the from-scratch caramel sauce that chef Jeni Britton Bauer took years to perfect. I already love Jeni's ice cream but didn't realize that I could experience it on a whole new level. I dipped the waffle cone (they give you a wedge with your ice cream) into the warm caramel, and oh my. I also poured a bit on my ice cream and let it harden a bit. Wow! GET THE CARAMEL, YOU WON'T REGRET IT. What is most splendid here is that they will literally let you try as many flavors as you want before deciding. This is one of those places that is a must-visit for me when I come to Columbus. I thought I had been keep track of the flavors I had tried so I would remember but it looks like the last visit in June, I did not remember to write a review! I know on the June trip, I tried the Bangkok peanut one, a pear one (I remember this one being wonderful) and my normal Brown Butter Almond Brittle that is a consistent favorite. This trip my sister got the Bangkok peanut (wasn't a fan), cream puff (this one was a tad boring) and the Roxbury Road. I got the Mint Chip, Roxbury Road and Brown Butter Almond Brittle. I loved the marshmallows and the crunchy pieces in the Roxbury Road. I would gladly order it again. The lack of the star this trip was for the service. The girl behind the counter didn't seem to be really paying attention when she took our orders and looked confused when we asked for the flight. I don't normally complain about too much ice cream but they almost gave us three full scoops instead of three half scoops so I couldn't finish and felt bad wasting it. read more
