I *love* ice creams and custards of all kinds, but my body doesn't do well with lactose. This is a perfect solution. The vanilla was flavorful and creamy, not boring at all. I've been by this place so many times, but only recently have stopped in. I am already a regular! This is a small location off high street near the intersection with broadway. Street parking on high or the side streets. Small interior with benches only, there are three small tables outside. Very popular with families with kiddos, can get busy when school lets out so be mindful. The employees have always been very friendly and polite. My favorite treat to order has been a strawberry shortcake, which is $5.75 before tax. The custard is like a soft serve ice cream but richer since custard also has egg in it. This is my favorite ice cream spot in Columbus, even more than Graeter's!! The price point, value, service, point system and fresh flavors cannot be beat. The only con is that there are only four seats directly outside of the Clintonville location. You can walk down the street to sit at two benches. But all of these spots are always taken so you either have to eat in your car or take a stroll. I really can't say enough about the ice cream cake I received from Whit's in Clintonville. I inquired about it a few weeks ago. The young lady carefully explained everything to me and I made my selections. I chose Whit's because my niece has a nut allergy and they will customize a cake for you. I'm a fan of whits. I've been to the other locations but this one is closest to home. This location is very small and with Covid restrictions they have a 4 person policy so just keep that in mind when visiting now. Whits makes pretty solid custard. They have a preselected menu but also create your own options so really the choices are unlimited. I usually visit when the weekly or daily flavor catches my attention, and I've never been disappointed. If I'm not ordering the special flavor then I'm having a Whister which is custard blended with toppings of your choice, or a dirty worm custard with crushed oreos and gummy worms. The prices here are very reasonable and they have great portions. The staff at this location is usually a bunch of young people they look like high school age but they are generally friendly and even have good recommendations if you can't decide what to order. read more

Usually enjoy their ice cream. Reasonably priced. I think they could do to hire more people in the summer months because it was clear that they were stressed on the weekend. The last time I went (on a weekend), the soft serve wasn't set fully, and in the two minutes it took to drive home, it had already settled into a puddle throughout the whole cup. That's when I didn't feel it was worth the money, but I popped it into the freezer for 10-15 minutes to reconstitute. It had a weird texture after that but was still tasty. Would have liked more fudge on my hot fudge sundae, which was mostly whipped cream. If you get here when it's not busy you can have a seat on the bench by the window if not than that there isn't anywhere else to sit. They have a new flavor each week and and it's always listed on the main website so you know ahead of them what to expect. The custard is really good. You can always get vanilla or chocolate. You can also make your own, a specialty or choose from the favorite section. I give this location 3 stars because they don't make it as well as other locations. Occasional I will get the same weekly flavor at multiple locations and it really stands out when you eat the same thing from different locations. I got a float, and they give you the rest of the bottle to top things off (that's the best way to have a float, and I recommend it anytime you get one, even if you have to pay more for a small root beer and your float.) It was pretty darn good. The custard is creamier than regular ice cream, the root beer was not very sweet so it added flavor but not overwhelming sweetness, and the combination was great. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are good. The place is small, so you can't really eat there, but there are benches inside and a couple of small cafe tables outside to linger for a few minutes. My go-to sweet shop in this area is Dough Mama, but on a hot day this makes a nice treat. read more

Whit's custard is top of the creamery line in Central Ohio. I had been a few times during my college years to one of their (former) locations in the Short North, and fell in love with their Root Beer Floats. Unfortunately, I thought my time with Whit's would come to an end when they left that location. However, all is right again in my sweet tooth's world! After recently moving to Clintonville, you can't keep me out of here on a weekly basis. It's small and quaint, located in downtown Clintonville, so space is limited. Luckily I can walk most of the time, but expect to try and have to track down some street parking. Additionally, seating is almost non-existent. They have a bench in their shop, as well as some tables and chairs outside, but sometimes you have to pop a squat on the curb or walk a few doors down to one of the benches on High St. As I mentioned before, I love their Root Beer Floats, and their Whitster's are also a can't miss selection too (similar to a DQ Blizzard). But what I love most about Whit's is their plain old vanilla custard. You can tell a lot about an ice cream shop by their plain vanilla flavor and there's is top notch. Whit's in Clintonville also has a flavor of the week and usually show a calendar inside of what's to come in the coming weeks - which is nice to plan for! I can't decide how I feel about this place. The custard is totally delicious (I had the flavor of the week last night, lemon drop, and it AMAZING) and the prices are good. However, the selection is small (three flavors and a variety of mix ins) and I've always intimidated that I'm going to order incorrectly (do they mix the toppings in? put them on top? do they cost extra? I have no idea). The staff is nice but the service is pretty indifferent (I'm guess it's the kind of job you get in the summer as a high schooler, and everyone has to start somewhere). I hate to only leave three stars, but besides the delicious taste of the ice cream I'm not too fond of this place. I'm sure we will be back a few times this summer, so hopefully I'll figure out how the ordering works and experience warmer customer service next time!
