Today was the worse! Husband had another appt and they didn't take him in until an hour and a half after his scheduled time. They took him in and dilated his eyes then he had to wait again to see the doctor. He continues to see them because he had his lasik surgery done with them and is told he needs to follow up with them. It was two and a half hours until he was able to leave. Not recommended if you want to wait a long time in a busy waiting room. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The appointment was scheduled a month ago. I filled out the paperwork ahead of time by mail. I confirmed the appointment by text. I showed up 15 minutes early. I checked in. I gave reception my ID and insurance which they copied.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I seated myself in the waiting room. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After nearly an hour I checked with reception and was told I was never checked in. Did they not notice someone waitIng who was yet not yet called in while those who arrived after him was being called in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What happened after they copied my insurance and ID? I cannot believe they asked if I checked in. I cannot believe while I was waiting they said they marked my appointment as a "no show". And again with irritated itchy eyes (I decided to stop the lash extensions after 6 years) as I developed a slight allergy. Check in, wait your turn, go to your comfy recliner for eye drops, IV, warm blankets and relaxing until surgery. For your surgery you walk in to the chair, lay back, lots of drapes/ linens, anesthesiologist, nurses, more drops, doctor, eye open, look at the light, done! They said it would be about 15 minutes, it seemed like 5 minutes! Then to recovery for one more eye drop, crackers and a drink. Professional and efficient but I didn't like that I couldn't speak with Dr. Peterson who performed my cataract procedures on follow-up visits. This review is just based on the consultation since I haven't gotten my surgery yet. The whole process for the free consultation was so simple and fast. First we did a phone consultation to see if i was even a candidate, it took about 10 mins. They scheduled a office consultation that day and Sent me paperwork for me fill out and esign. The actual consultation was quick too. I only waited about 10 mins before I was called back, and when in the back didn't have to wait at all. After I scheduled my surgery, the woman who schedules the surgery and talks to you about the cost validated my parking so it was free. She put like 3 stickers on my parking ticket. I know I read a review that said they only gave them one so they had to pay for parking. So maybe that person just didn't know what to do. Parking was definitely free. Dr Jenkins did the surgery well (8 mos ago) and would rate 5 star. However, due to possibly the wrong lens chosen by her Optometrist who does the preliminary check I'm giving the 2-star. It resulted in now having to wear glasses to read which was Not the case before surgery! When the OD doc at Dr Jenkins office does the pre-screen determination of the new lens to replace they need a more thorough check as this is permanent surgery. Be careful when u do this. My follow up appt after the cataract surgery with the OD when I reported worst vision learned she sighted for 3/4 arms length even though I asked for near reading vision! I made an appointment here to see if I was qualified for Lasik eye surgery. Now that I'm getting older, I'm finding it harder and harder to see clearly, so I was curious to see if I did qualify and what the cost would be. Unfortunately I didn't qualify, but then found out that the screening was free. I was expecting to pay out of pocket for at least a copay for the screening. The staff here were all very pleasant. Checked me in and updated any information since I went for a visit previously last year for an issue I had with a stuck fake eyelash behind my eyeball. Yes my eyeball. It was so uncomfortable. Dr Jenkins actually helped me out and all is well now. They are located at 615 Piikoi street, across of Inspirations. This is an office with several different doctors who can help. The office is very clean, and some chairs are blocked off for social distancing. I'm not sure if they do parking validation though because I was dropped off. I really liked the staff at this office. I was considered legally blind and life was extremely challenging if I didn't wear my contacts or glasses. My glasses were so thick, that even when I had the polycarbonate, I couldn't wear them for more than a couple of hours before getting painful grooves on my nose and a headache from the pressure on my ears. When she got to the office at her appointment time they told her that they had to reschedule her to October (which is 3 months later, making it a total of 5 months without the eye care she needs) due to their lack of scheduling correctly. The receptionists were completely unprofessional and one lady showed no empathy or kindness after the bad news they had. Why not call her ahead of time to let her know the doctor could not see her instead of making her go to the office and waste her time. I was referred to Jenkins Eye Care for an issue by my general eye doctor. I was unhappy with my initial appointment, which was rewarded by an even worse second one. Like many doctors, you spend more time waiting for the doctor than actually talking to them (not including dilation time). Specifically I saw Dr. Peterson and have nothing negative to say about him: he explained what they were looking for, what to look for in the future, and that he believed there was nothing to worry about. My issues here are with the nurses and desk staff. The waiting area and facility is clean, beautiful, and comfortable. I appreciate the drinks while you wait. My first time visiting I was greeted with the building's unfortunate validated parking system, which you're guaranteed to go over with all the waiting involved. The desk clerks seemed prickly, which was at odds with the vibe of the place. The nursing staff that I had the displeasure of having on both visits were distant, not explaining the tests, and being rough with my sensitive eyes. After my first visit, I had visible injuries from fingernails not to mention general soreness. During both appointments I was moved from one test method to a different one because it was "easier" then showed up on the bill. The second appointment, I asked why we couldn't do the one, to which the nurse *laughed* and did not answer. Scheduling here is also difficult. I made a follow-up appointment the day of the first visit, and had to reschedule a few days later. I was told they were completely full for three months, which seemed hard to believe but I took it anyway. Getting out of there is the hard part. I will not pay up front for any medical co-pays and fees; too many doctors scam as much as they can with the promise of a refund later. The desk clerks are rude and angry at me, the customer, about this policy. When the total was revealed, I was livid, and refused (this is with insurance, for a medically necessary appointment). Going to a doctor is about staying healthy, not being made to feel like a cash cow. Despite being told my eyes are healthy, they said they'd like to see me again in six month to reevaluate a second time. I'm sure they would for what they bill. I will not be returning. read more

This is a long overdue review, specifically for Dr. Peterson. Dr. Peterson helped me immensely with my eye allergies that were misdiagnosed and lingering for far too long. After getting misdiagnosed with conjunctivitis and prescribed something very strong and very useless, the pain and itching in my eyes persisted so badly that I was waking up in the middle of the night rubbing my eyes on a regular basis. I ended up visiting urgent care, where the doctor was mystified, but he referred me to Jenkins Eye Care. Dr. Peterson identified the problem immediately and he gave me a prescription for durezol, which squashed the problem within a week. He was very careful and diligent with the dosing, and he had me return a couple of times for follow up to measure my eye pressure. I appreciated his expertise and the caution he took with such a strong prescription. My allergies have been under control for several years now and my eye sight and pressure remain very healthy. I feel like a brand new person after Lasik! I've had glasses or contacts since I was in 4th grade, and I never thought I'd be able to have vision this clear. My astigmatism was so bad that I never truly saw clearly, unless my contacts sat exactly straight on my eyes. Lasik is magic, and Dr. Jenkins and staff are the best. I called a couple of other places for consultations. Davina, the surgical coordinator for Dr. Jenkins, was the most responsive and informative out of all the offices I called. She walked me through each step of the process. Eveything was laid out clearly, from pricing to pre & post op appointments, coordinating with my own optometrist, when to start wearing glasses and when to start meds. The other guys (Faulkner) were a little rude, and were not able to accommodate a consultation until much later. They're just busy because they do commercials, and they were pretty cocky about it, saying he's "soo popular." After speaking to literally everyone I knew who had lasik, many people said that Jenkins is the best. She was the first to bring lasik to Hawaii, a true pioneer in the field. Although I probably only spend a total of 15 minutes with Dr. Jenkins during this whole process, I am thoroughly impressed by her knowledge and expertise. She's like the cool mom and makes you feel comfortable and confident. Jenkins uses the Aloha Laser Vision facility for the actual surgery, but every other appointment is either in the Piikoi office, or with your existing optometrist. The Piikoi office is run like a factory, churning patients in and out. They're super efficient, and everyone knows what they're doing. Had LASIK surgery yesterday and it is the coolest thing ever. EVER. What better way to start off the new year than with perfect vision? LOCATION: The office is located on Piikoi in the same building as Party Dress by Claudette (for those of you familiar with this dress shop.. also the shop you see while driving down Piikoi). This is where you'll go for your first appointment and most likely your subsequent visits as well. And there's a private parking lot! PROCESS: The initial visit is to determine whether you're a candidate for the surgery-- there's a series of tests, you meet with Dr. Jenkins who explains the process, but you don't have your eyes dilated. Davina then helps you coordinate your appointments and goes over pricing. The second visit is a few days prior to your surgery and involves eye dilation. On the BIG DAY, you go to the First Insurance Building on Ward. The procedure itself takes about 10 minutes and involves minimal pain (at least I thought so.. Valium is partially to thank for that).. just some pressure and lots of lights. You go home and rest with an eye shield, then return the following day for a post-op appointment. Then you have another appointment the following week. Easy right?! OVERALL: Although it's only post-op day 1, I am very pleased with the results and overall process. Everyone at the office is great, and the entire process is so smooth. Vision is still a little bit blurry and my eyes are somewhat dry and sensitive to light, but all of that'll go away with time (and eye drops and sun glasses). Most importantly, NO NEED GLASSES. Every morning I wake up and see the world clearly without anything and can get on with my day. No more forgetting to take out my contacts and waking up at two or three in the morning feeling like there's sandpaper behind my eyes. No more having to rush in to the doctors off to obtain contact prescriptions in order to order more contacts because you're running out. No more spending money on contacts, glasses, contact solution, lubricants and cleansers. And no more having to choose between using my insurance for contacts or glasses because any plan that I've had never seems to never cover both. I have perfect vision for over a year and a half thanks to Dr. Jenkins. Did the process of having the outer layer of my eyeballs lasered off freak me out? Yea it did, but she'll give you medication for that. Is it scary that during surgery you literally can see and then not and are awake during the entire time? Yup, but knowing that Dr. Jenkins is the best in the state of Hawaii and possibly one of the best in the country in doing of what she does gave me peace of mind. Her office and team are 100% efficient and professional. From the time of my consultation to the surgery everything was planned out so well over the span of four weeks I barely had do anything other than get myself to appointments. The procedure is not at the consultation and check up location, and the surgery literally is only a few minutes long. You will be able to see directly afterwards although its like you are in a fog. If you have HMSA insurance you will receive a discount, and the total cost for everything was around $4,200. Definitely don't mess around with those Groupon or Living Social deals. The cost is pretty steep but when it comes to your vision, only use and invest in the best. When something isn't right with your eye(s), everything seems darker. My usual annual visit with Dr. Ng has recently been replaced with more urgent visits with Dr. Peterson (Dr. Ng has moved). When I met Dr. Tyrie Lee Jenkins for my free consultation, we immediately clicked! She was super nice, friendly, professional and honest. She answered any questions and concerns I had, even brought to light one of the most recent horrid stories of a recent person on the mainland who got LASIK but it didn't work for her and she took her life bc of that. But Dr. Jenkins gave me a lot of assurance that all will be fine and that I'm a very good candidate for LASIK bc not just for my age and health of my eyes but also bc my corneas were very nice and thick. Scheduling my LASIK day was easier than I thought and I actually financed 1/3 of the cost and charged the rest on my Costco card so that I could earn cash back. Of course I paid that off right away, but with the rest that I financed, there's no interest for 24-months which I hope to get that paid off by the end of the year or before my 6-month follow-up. My surgery could not have been so much easy and fast. It took less than 8 minutes total to do the procedure! Dr. Jenkins speaks to you the whole time explaining the procedure, what I would be expecting and what helped is that she would count down how long I had to keep my eyes open, which the most I had to keep my eyes open and still for 40 seconds. She would apply eye drops frequently throughout the surgery to keep my eyes moist and like I said, everything was just so fast! My SIL came with me bc you can't drive after the procedure especially bc they give you a Valium to relax you. There's a big window looking into the operating room and a phone holder so she was able to watch and record the procedure for me without holding the phone for the whole time. I loved their little gift bag that they gave me after the procedure which included the cool sunglasses, a hand written card and a gift card to the movie so that I can enjoy my first movie without glasses for free. Dr. Peterson is my moms Glaucoma Specialist. He is thorough and professional. His office is packed. Yet he patiently explained all of the upcoming procedures and verified that we understood and was comfortable with the upcoming procedure and required follow up. The office staff is courteous, professional and friendly. We felt like we were patients there for years. In a side note the office suite is exceptionally clean and comfortable. We liked the privacy afforded us also when we had to discuss payments and insurance. I hope that too many people do not need his services but if you do I recommend Dr. Peterson without reservation!!! He is extremely popular so you may have to wait a bit for you first appointment but remember: good things come to those who wait. read more
