Everything was explained throughout the application process and meeting the potential cats. If we could give 0 stars we would. The lady running this rescue is crazy!!! She INTERROGATED the character witness, then insisted on a meet and greet at our house because the husband told us there are cats everywhere at their house and piss all over. We complied regardless of her INSANE demands (and there were a lot of them!) Then she has the audacity to bring the cat back a 2nd time, comes into our home moving furniture, picking up our previous cats ashes and turning them upside down, opening up sealed cat food without asking and laying on our couch in her barefeet acting like she owns the place. Throws a pile of paperwork on the floor and sits there for an hour going through this mess. Nobody could say anything without this lady contradicting it. Then she keeps asking what will happen "if you die" because our Mom is old ... while our Mom is sitting right there. Then it gets BETTER. She send 3 texts to our daughter (thinking it was her husband) ... saying HATE THE DAUGHTER .... LOVE THE MOM ...LEAVING NOW. So while this lady (LAURENE) is still in our house, my daughter gets these texts! Her husband is livid, and our daughter called her out and told her to leave now! This lady proceeds to throw the money that was already given to her after the contract was signed, tried grabbing the contract and took the cat away from our mother!!!! Then she left. My mother is devastated. BEWARE -- DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS RESCUE!!!! Our Mother thought she was CRAZY from the get go. We should have listened to her!! read more

My wife and I were hoping to adopt a sibling pair of kittens from this agency, so I filed the application. Ms. Neval called me the next evening with many questions, and balked when she found out my wife and I were retirees. She made it clear that she wasn't happy with kittens going to the home of older people, and wanted information about who would attend to the cats when we passed. I provided requested contact information for a person who would take care of the cats, but Ms. Neval did not speak with that person, nor did she contact me for several days. When I reached out to Ms. Neval, she told me another family had expressed interest on one of the pair, the cat was adopted, end of story. Unless you have her notion of a Perfect Household, don't deal with this person. She was abrasive, and hadn't the courtesy to inform me of her decision until I sent an email. Very annoyed. read more

I adopted 3 sweet babies from Laurene back in April and it was the best decision I ever made! These babies were once so shy and scared, but with a little bit of patience (and treats) they are now as cuddly & playful as any other cat I've ever had! The entire experience with Laurene was perfect. She does everything for them beforehand, so you don't have to worry about getting them fixed, shots, etc. for the first year! She also brings the cats to you along with food bowls, toys, and whatever else you may need to make the transition easiest. I have called her a handful of times to ask questions, and she answers or calls back every time and is more than willing to help get the situation solved! She really knows and cares about each and every one of her kitties, and wants to ensure that they go to a good, safe home that is the right fit :) read more

Laurene has dedicated her life to caring for cats! She has a huge heart for these creatures, somehow remembering all of their little personalities and making sure they have what they need to be healthy. She rigorously vets all potential adopters and makes sure the cat is the right fit for the person. I just adopted my Zara from her a week and a half ago, and although she's still a shy girl, she loves affection, food, and playtime and is settling in nicely at my home. This is my first pet EVER, and Laurene has been a wealth of knowledge as I learn all things cat! I cannot say enough good things about this woman--she has a heart of gold! read more

I was contacted by Laurene about my application for a cat, and was asked so many questions it felt like an INTERROGATION. She did tell me her hours of availability to visit the cat and did take the time to find out important facts, but some of the question were TOO INVASIVE. Why would she need to come to your personal home and tuck the animal in? I have owned cat my whole life, and even fostered litters of kittens that were adopted out. I will probably just go through a shelter for a cat to keep my cat I have company, as replacement for my cat that died. read more

Look out! I adopted a wonderful (but filthy) cat from this woman who later contracted ringworm. The cat arrived with mucus in his eyes and a tube of ointment that did not work. The cat smelled so horrific that I could not get near him for days. In the next months in hopes of healing his eyes, ears, lethargy, and skin infections, I spent over $1000 in meds and vet visits. I have used my vet for all 17 years of my previous cat's life. She never had health issues other than the ones that come with age (and those were managed beautifully). This woman is accusing me of causing the ringworm and all the eye, ear, skin infections because I kept the cat in a finished and dry basement with clean painted floors and excellent drainage, regular pest control, etc. This woman is accusatory, mean and shows no gratitude for the abundant love and care this sweet rescue has been given. I had to give the cat up because of my own illness....and now ringworm on top of it. It makes me sick and I will miss him horribly. read more

Called to see if they were interested in taking a stray kitten , and all the woman did was talk down to me like I was some kind of freaking idiot when I asked if they were able to take the cat well I will have to call you back because I'm in the middle of something . I got my 2 babies from Jennie's Gems and the process was great start to finish. I had the opportunity to meet them in a natural environment, they had all their vet care up to date, and the owner even comes to drop them off and help them get acclimated at first. Was asked to call her after inquiring about two kittens for adoption for our kids, and because I know some rescues are wary of adopting to families with small children, I let her know my children are around animals at a farm that we keep our horses at, so they know appropriate vs inappropriate behavior around animals. We own our own home almost an hour from said farm, and would never have outdoor cats of our own, but the only thing she would speak about (not our home or how we've prepared to adopt kittens) we're the cats at the barn that I do not own or have any control over - she wanted me to make sure all of the cats that do not belong to me were fixed & vaccinated before she would even speak to me, which was very odd. When I told her I don't have an ounce of control over someone else's cats, she told me that if I cared about cats at all, I would make sure they get fixed and vaccinated. It's creepy, invasive, and I'm utterly appalled at the way this woman spoke to me. Don't expect to adopt from here if you know of any animals that exist outside of your home. read more

this person spoke with me for less than a minute before telling me I murdered my 14 year old cat who ran away 3 years ago in Pasadena, and also told me I should never own a pet again. This is a rude, paranoid person who should have their non-profit status revoked as they do not actually adopt pets. read more

I inquired about adopting a bonded pair of sibling cats. when she called, she told me that, because I was willing to take 2 cats, it automatically disqualified me because it's a red flag. this was only the beginning. before hanging up on me she said, "no.
