Well, what a nice surprise!…read more I have not been to a dentist regularly and the thought of going made me anxious the closer and closer my calendar reminder got. After my first appointment though, I am (mostly) not dreading my follow up appointment! The building itself is straight out of Better Homes and Gardens magazine, very comfortable and clean with obvious aesthetic appeal that made me look at my own home decor in envy. They have a very comfortable waiting room with some fun things for anyone who might have some nervous kids - or adults who are kids at heart. The staff was very easy to talk to and professional. They answered my laundry list of questions, some of which probably toed the line on what is and what is not their actual responsibility. Special thanks to Sky who helped me feel calm and at home as we watched a cooking show on the tv above the patient chair (nice!). Lastly, the complete transparency during checkout was really a huge selling point. They showed me a complete breakdown for my follow up appointment so that I could make adjustments as needed and avoid any awkward sticker shock conversations. Thankfully, my insurance covered most of my appointments, but I know that is not always the case for everyone; the transparency during scheduling is telling of their business model! I hope I don't have to do be soon, but if I do I know I will be in good hands!

When I arrived, I was told that my California dentist had provided records but not the 2 I had seen since arriving in Madison - weird. Went through to my appointment which began with the usual questioning by the tech who also advised that she was not familiar with the office as she was subbing there. The dentist arrived about 20 min later to hear the tail end of the long dental history I had been repeating and who advised that I "needed" a full panel of x-rays. I asked why the CT imaging that had been done in March was not good enough and she told me that it had not been received (later, she said they did not have the equipment to view it at that office). I was then handed a quote for a full panel of bitewings and a panoramic of about $ 500 but with the panoramic being "comped" at a deduction of $ 200, the dentist adding that everyone needed x-rays annually. I consented and the dentist left the tech to do the x-raying. Once it was all done including the panoramic, I lay back in the dental chair with the x-ray apron on waiting for the dentist. After about 15 mins, the tech went off to find her but could not so said she'd take my blood pressure. Wheeled a machine over and took it while I held my arm up in the air - my reading was through the roof - not even slightly surprising based on my POTS and that it was being taken incorrectly in the first place. The dentist returned and left again to return with a form to be completed by my GP about upper limits of blood pressure. She then wanted to do a periodontal exam (with no numbing gel) and proceeded for 3 teeth when I stopped her. Took my blood pressure again, machine broke, fetched another, it had dropped by 30/40 points - still high but almost in normal range despite what was going on. Went to the front to pay and subscribed to their in house dental coverage which brought costs down dramatically. Husband waiting outside asked me why I had been there for 3 hours!!! Excellent question!!! Got my treatment plan about 2 weeks later, covering email said no further treatment without the form. I reverted to complain about all the above and received a snail mail letter terminating our "relationship" as no trust. Bottom line, aside from their website and automated intake of patients, utterly awful. Not a frog worth kissing for any reason.

I've been to many other dental offices - most pride themselves on having up-to-date equipment and a spruced up appearance. First Choice Fitchburg's environment and equipment seems to be frozen in the 1980s. The hygienist's chair had tufts of stuffing hanging out and the xray machine looks to be a hold-over from the Soviet era. If I wasn't so happy with staff, I'd be concerned that the run-down office reflected a lack of concern for patient care. 5 plus stars for staff: Abby is a fantastic dental hygienist and David Gundersen's skills are top-notch.

The RHD who did his cleaning was incredibly engaged, thoughtful and kind to my child. She explained each step, showed him how all the equipment worked, and moved slowly and gently as she did the cleaning- while still talking him through each step. He had fun, laughed throughout, and felt in control of himself. On a previous experience with my 10 year old- much the same- They had a terrible time with the last provider and was absolutely traumatized before so getting them through the door the first time here was full of trepidation. Those fears and concerns were immediately relieved as soon as the tech came to talk to my child. My child even allowed a tender spot to be worked on and injecting a numbing agent- This kid is terrified of needles- they administered them with very little pain!- because the tech was gentle and kind and thoughtful with the work they were doing to ensure minimal discomfort. I absolutely recommend Maple Grove Dental for anyone with children. They understand patient care.

However, if they late cancel your appointment they aren't accommodating for a re-schedule. Unless you can re-arrange your life expect to be several months out--as in at the time of your next cleaning. As a professional myself if I have to late cancel someone due to unforeseen circumstances I make sure to go above and beyond to accommodate a re-schedule that is convenient for the person because I value the time they set aside. I guess I should always remember that not everyone has that same level of professionalism.

Dr Andersen and crew have always been friendly and professional. They provide wonderful care. At 68 years old, I've been to a number of dentists over the years. Dr Andersen and staff are the best! I'd like to add that yesterday an old crown that had been placed by a prior dentist fractured and chipped off. I called Artisan Dental last evening to see if I could get in today. I got a return call at 7:15 this morning, was in their chair at 9 AM, and was done with a new crown at 11:15 AM. Thank you so much Rochelle, Dr Rehermann, and Cassie for such speedy, kind, and professional service. I have no idea how people could have had negative experiences. After going at least twice a year for 8 years, I've always been treated exceptionally well. It's true the office is like a very hip spa, and the equipment is state of the art, but the most important part is the people that work there. They're incredible.

My experience with Family Dental Care of Fitchburg has been anything other than pleasant…read more I had a few cavities in Spring of 2022 and was informed I had to have crowns put in on the lower left two molars or I'd have to have root canals on them. They put two temporary crowns on and told me the permanent ones would be ready in a couple weeks. Immediately after, I had excruciating pain in an area of the mouth on an upper tooth on that side. I couldn't eat or drink on that side of the mouth. I was informed of the cost, and I told them I couldn't afford to pay the whole amount. They didn't offer me a quote before the service and the billing person accused me of lying about that fact. I wouldn't have agreed to get service done for something I wasn't able to afford, especially since I was homeless, jobless, and on disability just a couple months prior. A couple weeks later I went in and they took the two temporary crowns off, had one crown put in, and was told the other crown wouldn't fit. They put another temporary on the other tooth and ordered another crown. I called a few weeks later to check the status and was told that until I paid more money, they wouldn't schedule an appointment. I couldn't afford to pay anything more because I could barely afford my housing. They held me hostage with the temporary crown. They called a week later to try to get me in for a small payment which I made. I went to that appointment and I told them about the pain I was feeling after they put the crown in and was told that it was my wisdom teeth and they said they'd refer me to the oral surgeon. They never did this, and I had to call the oral surgeon in order to get an appointment. In September, the oral surgeon said my wisdom teeth were fine and referred me back to Family Dental. I didn't get a call back from them and had to call them myself. I called them and they scheduled an appointment. They informed me that a cavity had gotten worse and that I needed a root canal and a crown. They then referred me to the endodontist, and I couldn't see them until December. I went to the endodontist and they did the standard tests to test the health of the tooth. I was informed that the tooth was healthy. They looked with the dental mirror and they said the tooth where the pain was coming from was chipped. They took some standard dental x-rays and were able to confirm this fact. They said that it most likely would require a crown to address it, but if I was lucky, it might simply need a filling. In January of 2023, I went to another dentist. The other dentist spotted the fracture and informed me that it was, unfortunately, going to require a crown. They also informed me that the two crowns that were installed by Family Dental Care of Fitchburg were very shallow and would most likely need to be replaced after a year or two due to wear and tear. So, I had to spend another ~$1,000 on a crown that would've otherwise been a filling if Family Dental Care hadn't been negligent in its practice in the prior spring, and I will most likely need to have the two crowns that they installed replaced, leaving me with more expenses. Today, I called Family Dental to explain the situation and respectfully requested, based on the evidence and the situations that occurred, they write off the bill. The office manager became exceptionally angry, rude, defensive, blamed me for chipping my own tooth even though I literally hadn't been able to eat with that side of the mouth since the first operation last year, threatened me that she was going to send me to collections, and hung up. She was screaming at me. I've never experienced such profound unprofessionalism and egotism from someone in my entire life. I was working my way to go back to college after being homeless. Now I've had to declare bankruptcy because of Family Dental Care of Fitchburg. I'm not sure why I was treated differently than some of the other people who've reviewed this company in a brighter light but based on my experience and the trauma they've put me through, I can't recommend them to anyone for anything.
