Over the past couple of years, I've visited a few different First Choice Dental locations, but my recent cleanings have been at this Regent Street location--and this is now my go-to spot. The main reason I keep coming back is because of Wendy, the office manager. She's an absolute rock star when it comes to customer service. I used to go to the Middleton location, but when I needed to reschedule, the staff there (and even at Verona) weren't willing to check availability across other offices. When I called Regent Street, Wendy went above and beyond. Not only did she check her location's schedule, but she offered to look into openings at other First Choice offices to make sure both my wife and I could get in for cleanings. That kind of effort really stood out. Since then, I've had great experiences here. The dental hygienist Will is friendly and professional, and Dr. White is attentive when reviewing my teeth and X-rays. Parking is also easy--there's a small lot, but I've never had trouble finding a spot. If you're looking for quality dental care with staff who truly go the extra mile, I highly recommend the Regent Street location of First Choice Dental. read more

Dr. Felix is the absolute best dentist that I've ever had. He does a great job and is very thorough with his work. He works to ensure the most optimal results with as little discomfort as possible. I have been going to First Choice on Regent for a year now. I absolutely love this place. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The office is extremely clean and inviting. I finally got my teeth whitened, and while I wish I were able to combine it with the coupon that takes off $100 if you combine it with a teeth cleaning, I'm still glad I did it. I just had to add that gripe in there. Overall, definitely would recommend and I have no complaints. read more

First Choice Dental is great. I went to them as a first time customer, they fit me in pretty quickly and they'll even send you text alerts to confirm your appointments. Once I got there, I was seated within 5 minutes. The part that stood out the most for me was the explanations. My hygienist explained to me that the reason I was having tooth sensitivity was because I was brushing too hard, and showed me the correct way to brush and to get an Ultra Soft toothbrush. She actually explained the way teeth are made up and why I was experiencing sensitivity. I left with a better understanding of the choices I make and how they effect my dental health, instead of the normal "Floss your teeth and brush them twice per day!" that you normally get. I had a series of follow up appointments to schedule, they were able to get me in the next day. They also give you a nice breakdown of what insurance covers and what you'd have to pay out of pocket, all in all it was very reasonable. I had a great experience here and will certainly be making this my go-to dentist in the Madison area. read more

Before I went here, I had an extreme phobia of dentists: when I was 10, I had a dentist pull a tooth without any novocaine at what is basically a glorified dental factory (Dental Associates)--so you can understand why I wouldn't like them as a result. Today changed that. First Choice Dental was extremely caring and helpful: from the receptionist to the actual dentist, everyone was extremely kind and gracious. They're a little more expensive, but Dr. Sharkus knows what he's doing AND he's a more conservative dentist, meaning, if he doesn't feel it's necessary--he won't bother. That's what I can get behind. If you are for being overcharged for needless surgeries or brow beaten into submission this is the place for you. I have a decent amount of work I need done and instead of being realistic they had me a quote for more than 35k, with one appointment being 15k dollars out of pocket. These people are insane with their pricing and expectations. I have good insurance so this was probably their method of figuring I had a good paying job so I would be willing to fork out what would realistically be a full cars value in 2 years. Greedy dentist that does anything they can to boost your bill so that they can wreck you with the fine print. read more

I just had a temporary crown put in and it was a much smoother and painless procedure that I had expected. Dr. Felix answered all my questions, even ones I hadn't thought to ask. Both he and Justin made sure that I was comfortable at all times and Justin took great care with the temporary crown. I have been come here for decades and plan to continue. read more

i had a pleasant experience with the receptionists and hygienists, but i left my first appointment with a treatment plan to do fillings on NINE "problem spots," which they wanted to complete in three appointments. dr. sharkus had barely even looked at my teeth. i've been getting regular dental care every six months for my entire life and was absolutely flabbergasted. i went to get a second opinion across town - that dentist said that he gets ten patients a year who come with "extremely aggressive" treatment plans from first choice and he recommended three fillings. he said the other six fillings that dr. sharkus recommended were places he wouldn't even consider touching. my theory is that they noticed that i have good insurance so they thought they would make a little money. i'm not going back. read more

I had an eerily similar experience to another reviewer. I just recently moved to Madison, and am absolutely strict about getting a check-up and cleaning every 6 months on the dot. First Choice staff was friendly, and certainly did a good job with the cleaning. They then told me I needed SEVEN fillings and my wisdom teeth extracted, although I have no issues with them. They quoted me over $1800 for the fillings (this is with very good insurance, where I've never payed more than $20 for a filling). A second opinion to my old dentist in Chicago looked at the same x-rays and said that only one of those fillings was necessary, and neither was the surgery. Came here as a college student in Madison who has had regular dental cleanings. Was diagnosed with six fillings all around my mouth including a recommendation for a crown. Came back to my regular dentist for a second opinion and the dentist was legitimately confused and kept asking which tooth had the crown recommendation, said they would not recommend any fillings to be done. Would have spent $750 out of pocket on top of good insurance coverage to get tons of unnecessary dental work. Would not recommend even just for a cleaning. read more

Dr.Sharkus is great! He takes the time to explain to me what he sees in my mouth. I really feel like he genuinely cares about the health of my teeth. He also fixed my broken front tooth in less than 12 hours after it happened, it looks just how it used to. The hygienists that I've had are all wonderful too. They are friendly and make the cleaning as pleasant as possible. I would give this review 5 stars, however I had a bad experience with one rude receptionist. I'm not sure why she talked down to me the way she did. I left my appointment upset because of how she treated me. read more

Dr Sharkus and the staff at First Choice Dental were awesome! It had been quite a few years since I visited a dentist and I had a few issues that needed to be addressed. He and his staff were very friendly and did a great job of making me feel comfortable, as I was very self conscious about my teeth and the position I had put myself in by not visiting the dentist sooner. I was expecting a lecture about what I had done wrong in the past but instead Dr. Sharkus focused on the positive while clearly explaining the issues that need to be address. After the appointment his staff put together a step-by-step plan to address all of my dental issues including a price break down for each step. It probably isn't said very often, but I am looking forward to going back to the dentist next week as I will be taking the first step in the plan they laid out! The team at First Choice has taken super good care of me and I am a major fan. I had a terrible head-splitting toothache. It developed over the weekend and got bad very quickly. I left them multiple messages to get in first thing on Monday. They were able to fit me in and Dr. Modjeski did a quick exam and decided that I needed a root canal. She was super attentive and very knowledgeable about both my toothache and potential pain management options (I was concerned because I was breastfeeding and didn't want any medication that would have an impact on the baby). Since the first choice in-house endodontist was not free until three days later, they called all the practitioners in their network and was able to get me an appointment for later that day. A few days later I went back to get the final filling to cover my root canal and the whole procedure took less than 30 minutes! read more

I had an excellent experience at first choice. The hygienist was very patient and kind. She was extremely empathetic and caring. Both her and the doctor talked to me like and adult who genuinely cares about her health- this was a new experience for me since other dentists usually dumb things down or don't take the time to explain anything. Everyone is super friendly and warm, and they take their time to answer each of my questions until I'm satisfied and completely understand the procedure. The day before thanksgiving, the staff here went out of their way to help me get seen same day for a filling issue. While I wasn't seen at this office, they immediately got me into the Waunakee office and worked with me (an out of state person) to help me make the best decision regarding my dental care and insurance needs. I felt that the doctor, Joe Sharkus, did not explain very much to me. He spoke in esoteric terms and left the room immediately after procedures asking the assistant to explain procedures and process for him. Worst yet, I was originally quoted at 600 dollars which seemed right considering my insurance but after the procedure, mouth numb, they handed me a bill for 1100 dollars. They had little explanation for why the bill changed so drastically. The receptionist said something like, "looks like your plan was downgraded." Later I found out through my insurance company that that was simply not true. I had not been downgraded just misled. They originally quoted me for one kind of filling my insurance took but then filled my mouth with a different kind my insurance did not take. It all was perfectly legal and in the tiny fine print but I think completely unethical. I can't afford those kinds of bills so I have had to go through a 3rd party payment plan to pay it off. I would not recommend him or that office. read more

First Choice business practices are despicable and unethical. When I contacted them for my appointment I was told that my insurance was acceptable there. I also contacted my insurance company to make sure that was correct and they confirmed that was true. However, once I got to my appointment, I was told to pay in full the day of that day because the particular doctor I have the appointment with does not take my insurance. I scheduled the appointment almost three weeks in advanced and provided my insurance information in three separate occasions to the same receptionist. The "Bait and Switch" practice they use is shameful. I will NEVER do business with them again and neither should you. read more
