Recently took a family member here to remove a tiny cherry angioma on the lips. The consultation…read morewas free and the laser treatment to remove was $200. The total appointment time was 30 minutes, including the 10 minute waiting time to be seen. Waiting reception area showed they had a consistent level of clients waiting to be seen or leaving. Staff were very friendly and kind, they handle our requested service professionally and with ease. There's ample parking in the back of the building with a back entrance as well. There was a slight mishap as they wanted to charge $500 for our service but it was quickly corrected before we paid and they apologized for the miscommunication. We will not hesitate to come back for a future procedure.

I had already been referred for laser treatment, so there was essentially no consultation. I paid a $50 copay, and the visit felt more like an opportunity to discuss additional services that I immediately declined. Two or three days later, the office called to say insurance had approved 39 sessions. I scheduled the treatment and drove about 20 minutes each way to the office. I again paid the $50 copay, only to be taken into an exam room by Physician Assistant Julie Lam and told that the laser machine was broken and the treatment could not be performed. What was most frustrating is that nobody called me beforehand to let me know the equipment was unavailable. I was told the appointment also included a consultation, which made little sense because I had already seen the doctor and knew exactly what treatment I was there for. I requested a refund of the $50 copay, which is currently being processed. While I appreciate that, it doesn't change the fact that I wasted approximately 40 minutes driving through Bay Area traffic for an appointment that should have been canceled or rescheduled in advance. In my experience, the staff were not particularly friendly or accommodating, and the overall communication and customer service were disappointing. I have PPO insurance and will be taking my business elsewhere. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this office. Patients' time matters, and if a critical piece of medical equipment is unavailable, they should be notified before making the trip. You're welcome!!! I may have just saved you 40 minutes of Bay Area windshield time.

(Please know it breaks my heart to have to write this type of review.)…read more In general, Dr. Schmitt was lovely. Easy going, knowledgeable, and addressed my issues quickly. My gripe is with the front desk staff/billing. I visited in early January 2022. Went to pay my bill right after seeing Dr. Schmitt and the credit card machine was down. As a Healthcare IT professional, I can undestand that. Things happen. I was expecting a charge for $124.32, as this was what they asked for on 1/11/2022. They couldn't process it so I informed them I'll just wait for the bill. It's now 3/1/2022 - and I still do not have the bill AND now I owe $180+! Where did this additional $60+ come from? Their statement: "You recieved skin tag removal - that's a cosmetic procedure. We don't send that to insurance." WHAT? You should have disclosed that at the appointment! You don't send everything to insurance? Why not? Who cares if its covered or not - let the insurance decide that. That's their entire job. This screams lack of transparency, shadiness, and overall a negative experience for patients - as now the bill is $60 higher than anticipated. Overall, just terrible billing practices. SHADY. Lastly, whoever was answering phones on 3/1/2022 @ 1PM needs a lesson in empathy. You may want to look at another dermatology office.

The scheduling experience should have been an early warning sign. It took several days of repeated…read morecalls just to secure an appointment at the Palo Alto office. I ultimately took time off work and drove over an hour to be seen. Upon arrival, we were greeted and roomed, and the medical assistant was courteous and professional. However, while we were waiting for the physician, a front desk clerk entered the room and informed us--only at that point--that our insurance was not accepted. We were told we would need to pay $200 out-of-pocket for the visit, in addition to any further services. I was frankly shocked. I have never encountered a medical practice that does not verify insurance coverage in advance, especially after multiple scheduling interactions. While the clerk did apologize, nothing further was done to assist us in any way, shape, or form. There was no attempt to offer alternatives, solutions, or even basic accommodation--just a blunt choice to either pay out of pocket or leave. This was an unacceptable experience and a complete waste of time, effort, and lost work hours. I left feeling dismissed and undervalued as a patient. The lack of accountability and inadequate administrative processes had a direct and significant impact on my experience. On top of that I was charged the office visit fee and after a week I have yet to receive a refund. I would not recommend this practice and will be cautioning others about their failure to properly manage something as fundamental as insurance verification.

Dr. Lee is a fine doctor but his billing office is incompetent…read more My husband went to see Dr. Lee in April 2024. They billed the wrong code so our insurance did not apply the plan contract price. Took us three phone calls and 8 months to fix the problem. Meanwhile, they kept billing us so we paid in full since we did not know what else to do and don't want to ruin our credit. After insurance finally got the right code to fix the bill in January 2025, we called the billing department for a refund (since we paid in full). No call back. Today, instead of getting a refund, we got a bill saying we owe more money because the bill fails to list the full payments we made. Now we have to call them again. No matter how good a doctor Dr. Lee is, it is not worth our time and energy to deal with the billing department. Dr. Lee: you deserve a better billing service!
