I agree with all of the 5 star reviews. The Staff Sandy, Gillian and Assistant Manny were thorough, welcoming and very friendly. Dr. Mehrany was very easy to talk with. He had a friendly demeanor. He explained the procedure in laymen's terms. A week after my nose surgery there was still a lot of inflammation so it was hard to tell what it would ultimately look like. So I decided to wait to write this review. When the swelling finally subsided about 4 weeks later it became obvious that Dr. Mehrany is not only a very skilled surgeon but an artist as well. The symmetry of my nose was excellent. He had to remove over a 1/4" diameter basal cell carcinoma. Yet, he was able to use the remaining skin to reconstruct my nose so it is not noticeable to others and barely noticeable to me. My friends and family were all very impressed with the results. Most didn't know I had a nose surgery until I told them. I highly recommend Dr. Mehrany and his staff! read more

I received a call from my Dermatologist, Ken Miller, who told the biopsy was positive for cancer in my nose and I already had the appt made for me. 36 hours later I was reading my book in Dr. Nehrany's office. He put me to ease with his team and started working on my nose. Relatively painless. The sound of him scraping the inside of my nose was more irritating than the procedure. Dr Mehrany takes his occupation to the top level wanting to be the best and it shows. He is the only Mose Dr. I would go to. It's been over 5 years but I am not concerned that it will come back. @ 7am. Cancer removed from face. Mohs specialist. The procedure itself was a breeze. I was prepared to spend all day. So I packed my car to go back to sleep or eat in between procedures. Dr. Mehrany is a genius at his craft. Mohs surgery is vital to be taken very seriously and it must be taken care of my the BEST. Dr. Mehrany is the person you want taking care of your needs. I had a very deep skin cancer on my nose that needed to be taken out and reconstructed . It took over 100 stitches to properly graft the area taken care of and one month later it is healing beautifully. My nose feels better each day and I've been in to see the Dr.- four times since the surgery for follow up visits to make absolutely sure the graft is taking well and the healing is the way he wants it. Follow up visits will continue , as he personally wishes to follow the healing process in detail. This man cares more than any surgeon I've had for previous procedures. As important as the surgeon's skill is his long term staff. Paulette, Mani and Sandy have been with the Dr. from the beginning of his practice and travel with him between San Jose and Modesto to take exceptional care of all patients. Recently I was referred by my regular dermatologist to Dr. Mark Mehrany to remove a very early skin cancer. I had several appointments with him: initial consultation and bigger biopsy, the surgery itself, and a couple of follow up visits. So I had the opportunity to interact with him and his staff multiple times. Both Dr. Mehrany and his staff are tops. The whole practice is run very professionally but also with a degree of warmth not always experienced in a doctor's office. Additionally, I had giant insurance issues and the woman who handles billing for the practice and I chatted several times and she was also fabulous in helping me resolve my problems (and empathetic too). Dr. Mehrany is exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled, and happily has a really amazingly excellent bedside manner. I have the sense that anyone could talk with him about anything. That is a helpful skill in putting patients at ease. No one wants to hear that they have any kind of cancer. But if you or a loved one has skin cancer that requires surgery, you could not possibly be in better hands than those of Dr. Mark Mehrany and his amazing staff. I have been raving about them to my family and friends. So often, if you're in Silicon Valley, getting the very best medical care means having to drive to Stanford or to San Francisco. Dr Mehrany is the master of "little stitches" resulting in minimum or no scaring. Having been plagued with skin cancers from too much sun in the 60's I use my regular dermatologist to freeze and scrape minor infractions. But when it comes to difficult areas like my inner ear (both of them), Dr M is the go to guy! He and his staff are personable and although I hate having procedures done, I know when I have to I'm in the best care with them. If your dermatologist needs to refer you to a specialist, tell him you want Dr Mehrany! read more

I came referred to dr. Mehrany from my general derm for a surgical removal--MOHs . Dr. Mehrany was great, proficient, and joked with me to alleviate most of the stress. My procedure unfortunately was in extremely visible location but the scar has healed amazingly well. Dr.mehrany is like a plastic surgeon god! I got follow up calls from the dr himself as well during recovery. If you need MOHs, look no further. The office is clean, modern, and efficient. I recently had a squamous cell cancerous growth removed from my nose by Dr. Mehrany. He handled a stressful situation superbly. I went in at 7 am and left at 11:30 am. A week later, he removed the bandage. The nose is healing well and already is starting to look normal. His plastic surgery skills are especially great. Rave reviews all round at this point. I had a 5 year old basal cell carcinoma on my left lower eyelid thanks to the production line medicine practiced by the inexprienced doctors at Palo Alto Medical Foundation (see that review separately). Dr Mehrany took one look at me, and had a slight wince, saying "Oh, that doesn't look good. How long have you had this?" A few more questions and he concluded it to be a Basal Cell Carcinoma, just as Dr. Sullivan had said (Dr Sullivan referred me to see Dr Mehrany as Dr, Mehrany is one of the finest and most experienced dermatological surgeons specializing in mohs procedure. He explained the process of the procedure as they iteratively slice off layers of the cancer, dye and test each layer,to detect where there is no more cancer then decide where more layers are needed to be removed, until the tests show that no cancer is present. There are 3 GREAT players in his office. The front desk is OWNED by Paulette. She is the consummate professional dealing with scheduling and setting expectations. Since the surgical process has the patient going back to have a slice taken, then wait for 20-60 minutes for the test results of that slice to guide the next slice, there is plenty of waiting room time. During that time I overheard her listen to a confused patient that I presume was elderly. After they gave their story, she assured them that no one had changed their appointment time, that it was on such-and-such day just like it originally was, that they would be fine, and even though it was natural to worry, there was nothing to worry about. She used the name of his daughter, that she would pick him up on time on that day and be here with him, and everything would be find. It sounded like the initial agitation in the call had been completely dispelled and the patient was again relaxed and ready for his treatment. This kind of professional compassion continued with every call she took, and her phone was ringing all day. Next are Dr Mehrany's assistants. He as a couple both are great and the operate in nearly complete silence while working. The assistant has the right tools at the right time, ready to hand to him, and I don't thing he had to ever ask or verbally prompt what was needed. Amazing telepathic choreography to behold. And finally Dr Mehrany himself. Wonderful demeanor, unpretentious, confident but not cocky, reputed to know his stuff, and he does. After hearing my story about the corporate medical industry clowns, he shared that he started his career in one of those for less than a year and found it appalling. He heard Docs stand around the coffeepot comparing notes about how many patients they had seen in the past week (relates to how big their paychecks would then be). That this was not the kind of medicine he envisioned for himself, hence he headed out to private practice and never looked back. Just Doctor and Patient without a corporate boss in between. Even better if there is no insurer or government meddling in those decisions as well in my not so humble opinion. So a week later I am cancer free and will see the eye reconstruction specialist, Dr. Sullivan across the street for a few more weeks until the healing is complete. If that previous sentence turns out to be incorrect (3% chance I was told) and the cancer returns, I will update this post. read more

Botched! Beware the great reviews. Please think twice about mohs surgery. My nose is now uneven. One side is pulled down lower than the other. When the bandages came off 1week after surgery, I mentioned to the doctor that I was a little worried because the nose looked lopsided. His response? "Don't you think you are exaggerating? You signed a release. Do you want to see what you signed?" After which he said it was healing fine and left the room. I was in shock. He never mentioned the possibility on an uneven nose to me. He mentioned scarring, but it seems to me that a doctor who does as many of these surgeries as he claims should disclose very clearly that your nose can come out crooked. My basal cell was tiny. I would have rather let it be and monitor it than be disfigured from the surgery. The release I signed was given to me 5 minutes before the surgery and had all sorts of stuff in it that he never mentioned. I wish I had walked out. If he does not give you the release to sign at least a couple days before the surgery, you should walk out too. Now I have to face another surgery to see if this can be fixed. read more

Dr. Mehrany did a wonderful job removing skin cancer right above my lip. I had a size of a nickel removed from my face. This cancer was previously removed by another dermatologist but it returned because he did not remove the root. I did not want to go back to him so I searched on Yelp and found Dr. Mehrany. I'm so glad that the receptionist agreed to see me without a referral. He is very dedicated and very talented and also the staff is excellent. read more

Dr. Mehrany is a miracle worker! I had '3 sessions' worth of skin cancer removed from my face and after 6 months, all I can say is 'WOW'....minimal scarring from a 1/4" round hole (3.5" long). He told me when I left his office that the scar will still be there, but it will look much better. What an understatement. Yelp reviews state that Dr Mehrany is a good doctor (he may be, but) - I never got to find out, as his staff was so impersonal, inconsiderate and down right rude that I left the office without even meeting the doctor or receiving my skin cancer treatment. I had a 7 AM appointment (which I showed up 10 minutes early) greeted by the front desk gal with a "Name!" greeting. When asked about payment I informed her that I was interested in the installment plan for which she had me come into another room and speak with someone on the telephone whom I spoke with two weeks prior, and discovered that she must have been trained by the same unhappy, non-professional person as the front desk gal. I recall speaking with this woman two weeks ago, as she was the same person who kept cutting off (interrupting) my questions and responses and proceeded to inform me that according to her notes I was "rude to her." Certainly not the kind of environment that I care to be in when I am about to have surgery. I'll find a more holistic medical practice with happy, caring employees. read more
