Now it is open to walk ins. It is a very bright, spacious, and modern space. I perused some of the aisles, but it will take me a while to find everything, which is OK (I love time spent just wandering a library). The staff is very helpful, and anxious to assist patrons. Masks are still needed and they have blocked off some seating for social distancing, but otherwise, it is back to business as usual. Hurray!

My daughter got her very first library card today and she was so excited to use it. I love the "teen" area that they have filled with tables and YA books. I love that the teens have a specific area all to themselves.

A great place to take the kids…read more.. Love the children's area! There is a decently-stocked play area with toys and games appropriate for kiddos ages 6 months-5 years. There are usually coloring and activity pages available near the children's librarian's desk as well. The staff in the area is helpful and courteous. There is a children's restroom in the kids' area complete with toddler-sized potty and changing table. There is a changing table in the lobby women's room as well. There are usually plenty of parents around, and if you're a nursing mom, you'll never get the evil eye here (though you shouldn't get it anywhere, y'know?). Throughout the year, the library offers programs for children of all ages. These range from Babies in Bloom (newborn-24 months) to teen classes and workshops. I'd love to give the West County Area Library five stars, but I just can't get past the modern architecture and the somewhat sterile vibe. I guess that I just like a library to have some character (and no, that doesn't mean cobwebs and card catalogs; just a more traditional look).

Had no idea this place existed…read more After having my LO, I realized that I needed to get his birth certificate. This building houses all the things for your important document things- the birth and death certificates. Fairly easy to spot from the road, plenty of parking available. Due to it being a Govt building you do have to go through a metal detector. Security there is nice and helpful. Office to get birth certificates is immediately to your left. Simply go to the window, provide the clerk with the requested items, pay your fee and wait a coupe of minutes for the item to be printed. The wait was non-existent and the folk that worked there were really nice. Super happy that o was able to check something else off my list.

I had the pleasure of being able to take a day off work to attend a meeting of one of the Boards…read morethat I serve on for the MSFA at the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company yesterday. We held our meeting in their Hall upstairs at their Fire Station. The volunteers did an awesome job with having to "order in" since Jonathan Atkinson and Former Chief Kenny Hyde's daughter from nearby Baltimore (who apparently now own or run t/a "Coastal Construction") So excited to hear that while I was on that side of the draw-bridge that this construction company is NOW just about to honor the correct completion without questions of their renovation of the Hall Kitchen and bathrooms and bring them up to code before they finish the job at the nearby restaurant they are currently working on. It will be great to see their comapny be able to get back to their fund raising efforts. Look forward to attending BINGO one Friday night in the near future and hearing that this Career Baltimore County Firefighter and Fireman's Daughter are doing the right thing in the name of public service. It is great that they will even be removing the old bathroom fixtures and replacing them with new ones just to be kind. ...WOW!

Today, our air conditioner caused the outlet to smoke up. The house was full of smelly thin smoke…read moreand the outlet was covered in black stuff. I called the fire department (this one obviously) and explained that it wasn't a huge situation. I explained that it smelled like chlorine and that there was smoke. Three fire trucks showed up. Me and my mother and brother were standing on the sidewalk when one of the fire men, dragging the fire hose into the house, rudely shouted at us to move. Only one of the fire men actually told us what was going on. And what's worse, they went to go check out the basement and ended up RIPPING THE ENTIRE DOOR OFF OF THE HINGES! I don't understand why people don't know how to open doors. They ended up leaning the door back on the frame and they turned all of our power off. They left without telling us about the door. My father almost fell down the steep stone stairs to the basement. I understand it most likely was protocol but I don't think they had to be rude about it. I also don't think they should've ripped our door off. -Logan

I stopped by the Hyattsville Branch Library to get a new library card. I love the reciprocity with…read moreMaryland and DC locations (some Virginia locations, too). There's a small parking garage underneath the library. (The garage closes when the library closes... so no dawdling!) The front desk staff was friendly and helped me get my new library card set-up. She helped to reset my account, gave me a bookmark which also noted the library hours, walked me through the different resources available, and was willing to answer any questions. You can checkout up to 75 items! The library space was new and modern. There was a community event being hosted in the meeting room when I visited. There are so many services and events that the public library offers beyond books - I dare you to check it out. As everyone's favorite aardvark once said, "Having fun isn't hard, when you've got a library card!"

I love the integration of the Spanish language in all the titles of the different areas, and that there is a dedicated space to eat and hang out where you can talk louder etc. The building gets a lot of natural light and there is plenty of parking. You can't go wrong visiting this library. Def proud to be a PG county library card holder!

I've been standing in the huge foyer of this courthouse waiting on a person for a meeting. I've…read morebeen here plenty of times but since I've been standing around killing time, I've actually had a moment to "look" at the interior. The building has interesting architecture. It's a 5 story structure where one side is completely glass and open to the center of the interior. There are historical displays and art that line the wall on each level. While standing here, a citizenship swearing in ceremony has just taken place. These new US citizens were very proud to hold the American flag and take pictures with their family. I helped take photos of three different groups so they could all get in their respective pictures together. As I write this, my heart is filled with pride for those who go through this process and choose to be citizens of the United States of America, while others who are born here take citizenship for granted. If you happen to be in Greenbelt and you want to experience pride for your country; along with witnessing the joy of newly made citizens, stop into this courthouse between noon and 1pm. I believe they take place here every Monday.

This is the courthouse for the federal southern district of Maryland. Federal crimes are tried here…read moreand the southern district of Maryland comprises PG County, Charles, Calvert and St Mary's County. The courthouse itself as an interesting building with a giant atrium. Anyone can enter, you just have to go through the metal detector. Parking is free. There is a small cafeteria inside and it is worth visiting just to take a look around at the architecture and some of the artwork. As well, the trials are open to the public so stop in and take a look at how your tax money is being spent and maybe get an interesting view of a criminal trial.
