Bid was competitive…read more Long delays to project start, claimed too far behind, too many jobs, not enough experienced workers available to hire. It is covid - not the only contractor complaining of lack of availability of skilled workers. I enjoyed meeting the crew members and all their hard work. They were easy to work with. One equipment operator damaged a new septic tank access box that had recently been installed. But that was quickly and easily replaced by the crew at no cost to me. Was not told until late that the asphalt material being used would not match previous/existing material; This material is much more coarse, so surface is not as smooth and will be harder to maintain. Asphalt job was finally, only partially finished. Too close to cold weather, so the seal coating will have to wait till spring. After completion of asphalt, I did notice some issues of some concern. There was heavy roller damage/chips on a year old concrete parking area in front of our garage. Also, there was supposed to be 2' thick layer of asphalt, but some areas are up to 5-6" thick, which poses some lawn maintenance/mowing issues along grass edges. Asphalt job was finally, only partially finished. Too close to cold weather, so the seal coating will have to wait till spring. I expressed some dissatisfaction to the owner and explained that I felt there were some 'damages'. He was at first a little hesitant/resistant to hear of my complaints/concerns. I asked for some relief from billing and was granted a minor adjustment - to my satisfaction. I appreciate a company who is sensitive to a customer challenging their job quality. Even the best companies sometimes have challenges meeting customer expectations. But what I appreciate even more is that we were able to work out something that will work for both of us. We are hoping the seal coating will be completed in the spring using Fidalgo Paving and that the quality will be very satisfaction.

I went with stamped concrete. He was honest, gave me his schedule and then stopped by a couple days later to check on my progress, ( huge backyard drainage project), to tell me that he could start earlier if it worked for me. He showed the next Monday and did the forms, came Wednesday to pour and stamp, then Friday to wash and seal. His pricing was very competitive, but his service and quality were exceptional!!! Jim is very proud of his work and understands customer service, I have found this gets lost with some contractors that are used to dealing with generals all day.
