This review is of Dr Heller's reception staff. Utterly unprofessional of Jennie to twist my words about a billing issue. I was assured about Dr Heller that my out-of-pocket cost of a cosmetic procedure would not exceed a certain amount, before I decided to go ahead with it. When I called to enquire about my final bill, she was rude after I asked for a refund due to the conversation I had with Dr Heller and twisted the story to about him MAKING me do the procedure. Imagine my shock when they told me Dr Heller was insulted when he thought I said that. Such a shame I will be going elsewhere in the future because I thought he was a good dentist. read more

I am dental-phobic and Dr. Heller is the only dentist I have ever been to in my life that did not scare or hurt me. He is very sensitive to how the patient is feeling at all times and is a strong propent of pain-free dentistry. (He explained that the major reason dental procedures are painful is because patients are often not properly anesthetized, so he pays a lot of attention to this, even if it makes the procedure last longer). The office is modern and clean, the staff are all warm and welcoming, and everything is spotless. Dr. Heller is compassionate, caring and extremely knowledgeable. I feel grateful to have discovered him and highly recommend him to everyone I meet who complains about going to the dentist. read more

Dr Heller told me in his office he would not want to see me because I insulted his dental hygienist. Would not listen to what I had to say. This was 6 months ago when I saw him last. She said I insulted her then & does not want to see me now. Came in for appointment & told this in his office Watch out for his dentist hygienist!!!!!!!! read more

Went for a cleaning and had my uvula suctioned twice by the tube that suctions out saliva. Ended up with a necrotic uvula (read dead tissue) for a couple of weeks. Neither the dental hygienist or dentist felt the need to name what had happened or what I could expect in terms of recovery. Very painful the first day and a swollen, elongated and uncomfortable uvula for the next couple of weeks is expected as it slowly heals and the dead part sloughs off. In the meantime I feel like I'm gagging on my own uvula. read more

Dr. Heller and his staff are absolute angels of humor, kindness, and mercy. As a person with problematic and unsightly teeth, previous doctors have brought me to tears, dismissed my concerns, or added to my already heightened anxiety concerning my smile. About four years ago, he bonded my front teeth which was truly a game changer. I now smile like a freak in all my subsequent photos and have even been complimented by strangers (which brought me to tears, but like the good ones). He's a good one, fellow yelpers. read more

I am BLOWN away that I'm saying I had a wonderful time at the dentist. I came in late with my front tooth completely chipped and the associate Dr. Libraty treated me. I usually get very nervous in the dental chair but Dr. Libraty was very calming and did the best job!! My tooth looks better now than originally!! I cannot more highly recommend this practice. It's state of the art with noise cancelling headphones so you don't have to hear the annoying drill and the doctor was amazing. 2 thumbs up!!! I've gone to Dr. Heller twice, and each time found him, his hygienist, and his office staff to be very friendly and personable. However, after each time I found that special x-rays had been done that my insurance wouldn't pay for. The second time I specifically requested that that x-ray not be done, and was assured that only procedures covered by my insurance would be done, I again got a bill from them. I've called twice to ask about it and each time I was told that they would look into it and call me back, but they never did. I've since learned from my friend that originally recommended Dr. Heller to me that she's had the same thing happen to her, and that after a more complicated procedure she had months of confusion and wrangling about how much was owed that has still not been entirely resolved. I've really enjoyed my visits to Dr. Heller's office, as I said above everyone's very kind. But I can't recommend him since their billing practices seem very haphazard and - I hate to make the insinuation, but I'm getting that impression - a little shady. read more

Dr . Heller was amazing in extracting a tooth today. It's the first time in my life I took a painless shot. I actually didn't know he was injecting the shot. When he told me it was over I couldn't believe it. My tooth was fused tightly and hooked with the tooth next to it. It was a challenge but he got it done with the least amount of pain possible. His staff is great! They are friendly, accommodating and reassuring. I would recommend them to anyone who's interested in the perfect dental experience. Best of all he has the latest dental equipment!!! It's been six months I've been coming to him religiously! No pain just results. He's taken care of 2 extractions and 10 cavities. THE BEST DENTIST EVER. His assistants are called Hellers ANGELS. If you need some dental work this is the place to come too! I can't believe I'm typing about a great dental experience! Lol read more

I was a patient of Dr. Heller's for more than 5 years. I recently visited Dr. Heller for my annual dental cleaning. AFTER the cleaning I was informed that he no longer accepted my health insurance. I suggested that he should have told me that he no longer accepted my insurance before my cleaning and not after. He told me to pay my bill or he would call a bill collector. After bouncing around between different Manhattan dentists, I am so thankful to have found this practice. Without question, Dr. Heller is one of the friendliest dentists in Manhattan, in addition to being a seasoned pro! He works quickly and efficiently and at the same time he is very gentle with his patients. Another dental office had told me I had 4 cavities, but after a second examination from Dr. Heller he informed me I really just had one! His objective is to make patients feel comfortable, which I think he and his staff achieve. The office space is large, clean and newly renovated and they also offer free water bottles. Beware of BILLING SCAM! It happens to me twice when I visit Dr. Jerrold Heller, DDS at 425 Grand St (Lower East Side) New York, NY 10002, I had emphasized to Dr. Heller that any out of pocket charge please let me know prior to any treatment, then I was told by Dr. Dr. Heller at the time of my dentist services that all of treatment are cover under the insurance, no out of pocket charge at all. Two weeks later, I then received a surprise large amount bill statement requesting for payment, when I call and spoke with Dr. Heller who had told me no out of pocket charge at the time of service replied I should pay the amount. If payment not receives, they will turn your account to a collection agency for payment which I have no choice but pay in order to avoiding bad credit. Beware of Dr. Heller's billing scam to get your money! Beware! read more

Dr. Heller was charming but very conniving when it came to payment for the work that was done. He has added more to the cost ... giving bogus reasons for upping the amount, (on several occasions) and when I brought this to his attention he verbally cussed me out ... using foul and inappropriate language. I was in total shock. I lost all respect for him today. I called my insurance company to report his unacceptable behavior. I hope to never experience this type of mistreatment from any professional. This dentist has horrible bedside manner. During a 20 minute procedure we were interrupted over 10 times by the rest of the staff. As the procedure was finishing he was interrupted again, leaving me unsure if we were even finished. He left the room and never came back. I will not be returning. read more

I have always had good experiences with Dr. Heller and his staff. I'm not fond of going to the dentist and I'm also very sensitive about people's bedside manner. The fact that I am comfortable going to Dr. Heller (and his really nice and extremely experienced oral surgeon Dr. Ghalili who is also at this office) says a lot. If you want stuffy, overly-formal and rigidly organized, this may not be the practice for you. But if you want warm, friendly, competent and excellent work done, I would definitely recommend it! read more

I was not pleased over all with this dentist. After a two and a half hour wait I had another appointment to get to, and had not yet seen the dentist, who seemed to have only two other appointments, both later than mine, whom he was seeing. They did manage to take 6 X-rays, which is fabulous, since when I booked I expressly asked for a regularly covered checkup and cleaning only. I further brought 2 month old X-rays with me, which the dentist never considered. I told the X-ray assistant that I had gotten an agreement at the time of making the appointment that I'd only be having the covered X-rays and that would prefer not to have any since I had a very recent X-ray on me. Despite agreeing to take a covered amount of X-rays, I later received a bill for close to $100 for the extra X-rays and I saw that my insurance had already paid about $115 for the other X-rays and an exam that never occurred. I understand that if a patent doesn't show the doctor may charge for services anyway, however conversely I feel that a simple exam and cleaning would be manageable in 2.5 hours and if not provided at an appointment, shouldn't be charged. Additionally I was early, but there was no receptionist for about 20 minutes. It's clear, from my conversation with the receptionist and a voice mail from the dentist that he took it very personally that I might need to leave his office after two and a half hours without seeing him. I was never rude about my need to leave, I apologized and I even asked to pay a co-pay when leaving, but was told I probably didn't need to, by the receptionist. Later he was unwilling to settle or reduce this bill despite my offering to pay it in return for the original x-ray films citing that he charged extra for record copies; he eventually used a collections agency which didn't negotiate, inflated the charges further, and ruined my credit for the period in which I was contesting the claim. read more
