    Bob Hogstrom Auctioneer & Realtor

    Bob Hogstrom Auctioneer & Realtor

I have to say that our interaction & business with Bob Hogstrom was incredibly frustrating &…read moredisappointing. We sadly needed the services for an estate sale quickly due to a combination of various circumstances beyond our control. I called several 'estate' people, he was the 1st to respond. He came right over, told my husband it was no problem to have the auction off site, he had 2 trailers, it works, all fits, etc., it worked with out very limited time frame so we proceeded to move forward. I received a text from Bob a few days later to tell me what day & time his crew would arrive to "pack." Now, to me, this seemed right on track with what he had told my husband, however when the people came at the designated time "to pack" (Bob was not there) they had no materials or trailers as they were told by Bob the auction was being held on site. Nope, not what was agreed upon at all. Bob arrives, he is immediately defensive telling me (mind you I have not met him in person yet) how his trailers are full and it'll cost me extra to have him take it somewhere else, etc,. So I cave because I need this done. Then he says, "Wait, when do you close on the sale of the house? " proceeding to tell me that the new owners will need to give us permission to hold an auction there after the closing. THE PLAN WAS TO HAVE IT OFF SITE! So, I get my Realtor to ask their Realtor to ask the buyer if this is ok....ugh! They say ok, but understandably ask to have the auctioneer cover the carpet, I mean it is their house & they were not planning on gobs of people traipsing through it. This was not an unreasonable request. Bob practically had a hissy fit, telling me he wasn't going to do that because it was a liability if someone slipped and fell. Every single thing with him was an argument. So in the middle of preparing for the ON SITE auction we were having my mother's funeral, yes, you read that right. Another reason I did NOT want this done at the house, it would have simplified things for our family to have it loaded on trailers and moved, but that was not what we had. So, family arrives at the house from out of state for the funeral while the "packers" are arranging things. My sister in law mentioned she would like a particular Wreath. It didn't seem like a big deal to me, but I suggested she mention it to Bob. Another family member wanted a chair. I cannot explain the level of unprofessionalism this man displayed, stomping his feet as if he were a spoiled child, throwing his hands in the air. He told them they would need to travel back to Ohio to attend the auction & bid on items if they wanted them now. He treated the family with complete disdain - it was appalling. He even came back the next day while we were at the funeral reportedly to take more photos but I have no doubt he was verifying that no items were missing. Even leading up to the day of the auction he couldn't seem to keep his act together, arguing with my husband over their conversations & refusing to cover the carpet. He eventually dropped off a roll of plastic for us to do ourselves, it was not enough of course so we had to buy more. The day of the auction is a day I will never forget. Bob may have "fucking been an auctioneer for 30 years" which he loudly yelled at the staff in his clerk trailer but I would say 30 years is enough. Time to quit. He was awful to my family. He did NOT EVEN ATTEMPT fair pricing on valuable items. He knew many people in the crowd personally & seemed as if he had his own side racket going on. Sold a $3,500.00 desk for $1.00, yes that's not a typo. Sold an $1,800.00 solid wood wall unit for $10.00. Other valuable antiques like a phonograph, he didn't even put forth effort, it was a joke. Even the other auctioneers that came to help him out came over to us to apologize for his behavior. Bob didn't care, wanted the sale over, & the folks that bought things for mere pennies were all pals of his. Completely unethical. I wish I could go back in time because I would NEVER hire him. His license should be reviewed and revoked.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!…read more I found Bob to be evasive and NOT a man of his word. The contract calls for you to get a percentage of sales, but there are lots of extra built in charges. Charges for advertising, manpower, disposal, etc, ate into any profit. We expected to clear at least $4,OOO after everything was paid....haha My Mother got $500!!!! What a joke! There was a washer/dryer, refrigerator, dinning set, dishes, living room furniture, silverware, computer equipment, Longaberger Baskets, kitchen items (most) and so so so much more. We also experienced electrical problems in the house after the auction. Bob Hogstrom said he would help pay for the electrician, but we have not received anything and he does NOT return our calls. One auctioneer even spoke badly about items being auctioned. Can I give him a minus rated? DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!

Today, I went to use HiBid to bid on some artwork, only to discover that Tom Hall Auctions…read moremaliciously flagged my account on the platform as "doesn't pay shipping." This is a completely false mark designed to damage my reputation as a buyer, despite them acknowledging their original failure to ship my items over a year ago. When I called to address this, "Catherine" was extremely unprofessional. She claimed she reported my review to Google to have it removed because my experience "wasn't valid," and openly admitted that my account was flagged on HiBid in retaliation for my feedback. She also falsely claimed it is illegal to name individuals in reviews. For the record, under the federal Consumer Review Fairness Act, consumers have the legal right to share truthful experiences without business retaliation or threats. I have formally reported this weaponization of buyer feedback to HiBid support, am submitting a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, and will be cross-posting my 1-star review to their Facebook page so other buyers are aware of these business practices. Here is my initial review: I had an incredibly disappointing experience with Tom Hall Auctions through the HiBid platform. I placed an order on October 28, and as of November 13, I have yet to receive any follow-up on the shipment of my items, despite numerous emails and voicemails. I do want to stress that the amount we spent was of higher $$$. So, you can understand our deep concern when we were not receiving ANY follow up to our questions on when items would be shipped... When I finally received a call from Paul at Tom Hall Auctions, he admitted they had not returned my messages and still had not shipped the items. He informed me that the shipping costs could be up to $1000 to $2000, which is outrageous. Due to the lack of communication and significant delays, I marked the transaction as fraud and reported my concerns to HiBid. Paul then got rather rude, stating he would report me to HiBid, which could prevent me from participating in future auctions, all without ever apologizing or attempting to make it right. He immediately went to "I'm going to report you" after acknowledging they made a mistake. I want to save people the headache of the unprofessionalism and wasting their money. This experience has been extremely frustrating, and the customer service from Tom Hall Auctions was unacceptable. HiBid has confirmed that they cannot block or delete my account and acknowledged that what Paul stated was very unprofessional. They have noted this incident for future reference and reached out to Tom Hall Auctions to emphasize that not returning phone calls and emails to customers is not appropriate. If you look at other reviews, the shipping charges and timely shipping is also noted to be horrible. I felt it important to let others know. Their excuses in prior responses stating that they list their auctions on multiple sites and get multiple views still do not give them the right to be unprofessional and not respond in a timely manner to people who purchased through their company. I would not recommend this auction company to anyone, especially if you value timely communication and professional service.

Tom Hall Auctions is one of only a few auction houses we do business with in the Lehigh Valley…read more They always have interesting auctions with a wide variety of collectible and antiques. Each online auction lot is well photographed and described, including pointing out any damage or other defect. Their buyer premium is reasonably priced. Pickup of items won is very easy since they have lots of open hours and don't require pickup appointments. All the staff I have met at Tom Hall are friendly and professional. Their warehouse is organized, clean and well-lit. They always say thank you and give the impression that they really do appreciate my business. I have recommended Tom Hall to other people and check their auction listings often.

She is excellent on her communication and follow up, day or night. She is dependable, and she truly cares about client satisfaction. Being 1800+ miles away from this last out of state property, makes getting little things resolved that were raised by potential buyers hard to get done. She recommended someone qualified and reasonable, or just did them herself. Next you are thinking of course, big commission,,,, wrong, as this sale was the second least expensive (only $115,000) I owned. The only bad thing about my experience with Cindy is that I didn't choose her. I inherited her from the former owner who listed with her; and from whom I had to repossess the house. She assisted me with that, getting the tenant out as the owner (an emotional basket case) couldn't make payments after his break-up so he rented it. The owner also took off with the deposit, and didn't pay the taxes. Many extra issues to help me work through, and none related to selling a house as I hadn't listed it yet. She saved me $$'s from not having to fly in; but more importantly at my age she saved me time. 5 Stars is not enough. I'd have to put the traits together of the best 2 realtors I ever worked with to equal Cindy. You would be making a foolish choice not to use her. It too bad I never found her sooner as I may have purchased more properties in Dayton. I have to say, I felt multiple times she was more concerned for me than the commission. THANK YOU for your efforts. In my opinion you are the G O A T!
