    Chips, salsa, sopapillas.

Okay. Why are you sitting there?...GO to this place. The food and atmosphere are fantastic. This classic restaurant has a reputation for a reason. The red and green chile sauces are so good. Salsa is spicy not too hot. You can't beat the chic old school booths and paneled walls. I had the veggie cheese enchiladas, husband had the classic chile rellenos. So good, both of them. Highly recommend and only wish this were a local place for me. Just traveling through.

This was recommended to us. Parking was rough, we had to park down the street aways. Not used to the heat. There was about 12 people waiting outside. We were deciding if we should wait or go somewhere else. Decided to go in. It was packed. We needed table for two, they had a tiny booth for two !!! Got in right away. Server gave us a bottle I didn't know what it was. She said honey z I still didn't know what it was for lol then I saw people pouring it on their fried bread. Then my fried bread arrived, yum ! The food was so good. The portion was big . Busy but service was still good. I still crack up when she told me it's honey she doesn't realize we are not from that state

Local family owned Classic. Usually a wait but not too long. It is crowded because it is really tasty. The Tamales with spicy red and green NM sauce were delicious! Vibe is 1972. Nothing fancy just good food, good service, and happy people.

This very local joint has an old time ambiance: long and narrow with two aisles running down the sides with booth seating, and clientele where I believe I was the only passer-through in the joint. I opted for a chili relleno with a side salad. The salad was larger than usual for a side and all the ingredients were fresh and crispy. Very satisfying. The chili relleno had a proper fluffy egg coating and a cheese filling. Red and green sauces are offered and you can choose "Christmas," their charming term for both. (See picture). Service was friendly and prompt. A great local spot and on a freezing cold night there was no wait but every table was full for most of the time I was there. Parking is available on the street nearby and around the corner.

The food was excellent. My husband and I both had the Miguel's Special. Our server Janelle was really nice and attentive to our needs. Checked on us several times. The ambiance was busy but nice. Everything was so CLEAN. When you look over to the carousel tray holding condiments and see the salt and pepper shakers not with a sticky buildup of with food particles is a plus in my opinion. Watched Janelle wash the jelly holders in back as we were finishing our meal says everything about their cleanliness.

If you're looking for a place to eat in downtown Gallup, check out the old-school café with a neon sign Jerry's Cafe. As soon as you step into the bustling restaurant, you're greeted with a smile and fantastic service. After browsing the menu, I decided on the Don Carlos. When my meal arrived, it looked incredible. My only gripe was that the steak itself didn't impress me, but the rice, beans, and egg were perfect, and the chili had some of the best flavor I've ever tasted. Served with fresh sopapillas and honey, it was a total winner. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. Don Carlos - B Sopapillas and honey - A++++ Red Chile - A+++++

If you're looking to satisfy your appetite at a reasonable price, definitely stop here. The food is sooo good and the service as well. Refried Bowl: it may look small but it fills you up! It comes with tortillas (recommend corn) and a sopapilla. Flat enchiladas: amazing

Today was the second time we have gone to this cafe for breakfast. The service absolutely amazing, with the hostess seating you right away and getting your drinks, the wait staff getting your order and explaining any options on the menu to the cook staff putting out the best food. This is the best restaurant I've been to in Gallop hands down. It's a bit out of our route to and from Colorado but well worth the drive.

Passing through Gallup and checked Yelp for a recommendation and Jerry's popped up. As other reviewers have stated, this is a very small local's restaurant with limited seating. When we arrived there were groups of people waiting outside, however, we were lucky to be seated right away since there were only two of us. We noticed for such a small place, they had several staff members and they were all very busy serving or bussing. Yes. It is sort of a hole in the wall and could use some upgrading aesthetic wise but that is the charm of Jerry's Cafe. But, you are a little cramped. We were sat right next to the kitchen, restroom and dish carts, etc. We were immediately greeted by a nice young lady who brought us water and our server Janelle quickly arrived and brought menus. Janelle was super friendly with a huge smile on her face. She never left us waiting for service. We were both super hungry so she recommended Miguel's Delight which came with a chili relleno, chicken enchilada smothered with red chile and a crisp beef taco. It also comes with a sopaipilla for desert. My husband and I both commented how we haven't had good, sloppy yummy Mexican food in years and it was absolutely delicious. We both ate every single bite! Do yourself a favor and stop in at Jerry's Cafe if you are passing through Gallup.

Ohhhh, are you in for a treat. But you have to find Jerry's first. Don't do what I did and wing it. Plug it into your phone! I found myself cruising off the beaten path and on to well beaten roads. If you get off 66, you're on your own. But hey, Alex J. , don't you have to get off 66 to get to the restaurant? Well, yeah, but just one block. Not the safari I went on LoL! When you find this hole in the wall, you've hit the jackpot. The food is authentic, satisfying, and filling. Most of all, it's really good. My choice was the Jerry's Special. Chopped steak topped with green chilis, (hatch green chilis) and you get rice, beans, and soppaipllas. Like I said, filling. The soppaipllas came in handy. They and the honey cut the slight heat from the chilis. Now don't let me scare you off of the chilis. They weren't that hot. Oh man those things are good. Very good!! The rice and beans are OK, but the chilis are the star of the show in this selection. Immerse yourself in the culture which is Gallup. Enjoy what you're about to experience. Quick Tip: You'll be rubbing elbows with the proud population of Native American, and Hispanic origins. I felt honored to be welcomed into their restaurant and into their community.

Small and out of the way restaurant. Food was delicious and portions reasonable. Service was quick and the waitress friendly.

Had the Cherelle's Choice on staff recommendation and it was delicious.

Great staff, good ambiance a real gem of a hole in the wall. Food was very good price was reasonable and I left stuffed. Definitely would go again if I ever come through Gallup again.

    Cherelle's Choice sopapilla. Amazing.

Of the old-skool New Mexican joints in Gallup, this has always been one of the best, and these days - it seems - one of the last good ones standing. If I were a tourist and looking for breakfast or lunch with an authentic RED/GREEN experience, I'd come here. I've recommended this place to more than a few folks. Yes, you have to order chips and salsa when you sit down (and no, they are not free). Get over it.

Ask the Community - Jerry's Cafe

    Do they have Outdoor seating?

    No, sadly.

    Does Jerry's have cocktails?

No, Jerry's Cafe does NOT have cocktails or beer and wine.

    Parking for RV?

I wouldn't recommend that. It's an older part of town and their parking lot is not very big. There is on street parking, but the streets are quite narrow. You would do better to Uber down there. There are some big gas stations by the freeway exit…

    Indoor dining open yet?

Of course it's crowed because there are only about 28-32 small booths. Likely seats about 80 folks. Turnover is fast though!

Green Chile Stew - Cuts of Stewed Beef, Carrots, Potatoes, Celery and some Hot Green Chile served with a side of Tortillas. I thought it was delicious! Didn't care too much for the tortillas, might opt for the sopapillas next time but the stew was great. Definitely recommend if you can handle the spicyness. Combo Platter - Choice of three, had the Tamale, Relleno and Enchilada, Xmas style (red and green Chile) served with a side of Rice and Beans. Thought it was okay, stew was definitely better. Also had the Chips and Salsa to start, was good but the salsa could have been spicier. Our server was great, very nice and gave some good recommendations. Was very quiet so the atmosphere was good, also have a bar next door. It was my first time here but definitely recommend the stew, have to try more of the menu next time. But give it a go.

They only got a one star because I had to leave a star to post a review which is crap and I'm traveling from Arkansas to Las Vegas and I needed something nutritious and tasty and I got frozen pizza dough.
