I drove up from Houston to help him out, and some local residents recommended I check out Vidor Transmission Specialists. We went there and discussed the vehicle with Bobby Witt, and he was very empathetic and straightforward and offered to inspect it at no charge to determine the problem, so I asked him to arrange for a wrecker to pick up the vehicle. This was about 1:30 in the afternoon. I then spent a few minutes talking with the owner, Robbi Witt (Bobby's father), who had just gotten back with some tacos he had bought for lunch. Robbi told me about the history of the business (they have been in business for more than 40 years), and he even shared a taco with me! My brother and I then met the wrecker at the vehicle, and had it towed in to the shop. By 3:30, Bobby called me to let me know that it was a quick fix and that they had already completed the repairs! I drove my brother back to the shop, and was astounded that they only charged $120 for the repair, and that it was completed in the same afternoon! I have found that Robbi and Bobby are without question among the most honest and honerable people I have met. I highly recommend Vidor Transmission Specialists (also known as Vidor Transmission Service on the BBB, or simply Vidor Transmission) to anyone that needs to have transmission work done. The radiator was split with possible damage to the engine. I left the car with them to replace the radiator and then test for additional damage to the engine. They then drove me and my wife to the airport to rent a car (not going into that saga now but no cars available from anyone yet Avis managed to majically make one appear). We continued on our trip and my car was ready when we returned. Mike had kept in touch daily so I already knew that the engine was ok and just the radiator had needed repair. I couldn't ask for more caring and helpful service having been stranded in unfamiliar territory. By the way, while I didn't see much of Lake Charles, all the people I met remind me of what true southern hospitality means. I was concerned that the price was high (although cheaper than the alternatives) so I looked it up on the internet after getting home. The price was on the high end of the expected range but within the range so I can't complain. I am sure there are cheaper places around but I doubt there are any beetter. If I ever have a car problem in Lake Charles I'll go back to Family Auto & Quick Lube Services. The only thing I think I'd suggest they change is the length of their name.

Great experience here, highly recommend…read more I would highly recommend them for vehicle service. I live about the same distance from most Volkswagen dealerships in the Houston and Beaumont areas. I read the reviews from previous customers and decided to make the drive to Beaumont (67 miles) to have a Check Engine Light evaluated on my VW TDI. I got there at 0730 Monday after driving through some nasty rain. First, I was able to drive into the service area, out of the rain and was pleasantly greeted by Andrea who said they would try to work me in since I didn't have an appointment. I was able to wait comfortably in their well stocked waiting area. I had internet, tv and a quiet place to relax. There were several customers who had appointments that were promptly taken care of. I was glad to see that they were taken care of quickly. Everyone there was super nice to me while I waited. I had settled in thinking I was going to be there awhile but Andrea approached me after about 2 hours and said my car was done, they had replaced 2 glow plugs which were covered under warranty (2012 Jetta) and there was no charge. This experience made my early get up, nasty drive and not knowing what the problem was very pleasant. I would definitely go back for service and will plan on shopping there for my next Volkswagen.

Sometimes it takes longer than other times. I get it. Two people came in after me and left before I did as well, so I got up and started asking questions.. after someone FINALLY acknowledged I was standing there. I'm not sure exactly what the girl did after she took my keys and wrote down mileage, etc., because she absolutely failed to put anything in the computer and nobody could tell me anything. One lady said they were "running behind", another couldn't find any of my information. They said they would put me next in line. I wasn't waiting another who knows how long, so I got in car and left. Absolutely no apology at all or anything. Just pretty much, "We don't know what happened. I don't know what to tell you." I can truly say I've ever had a great experience there to begin with, so this was pretty much the icing on the cake for me. I will absolutely go the extra mile and bring my car to Doggett or Philpott if that means never stepping foot in that place again.
