It was just too hot to enjoy the patio during our visit, so we opted to eat inside. The menu focuses on sandwiches, salads, and grain bowls. Our group tried three sandwiches: the La Familigia, the Big Schlepper, and the Hillcrest. The La Familigia was enjoyable. The combination of capicola, Genoa salami, mortadella, fresh mozzarella, arugula, and the spicy pickled pepper spread on ciabatta created a flavorful, well-balanced sandwich that I'd happily order again. The Big Schlepper was another winner. The corned beef paired perfectly with the Swiss cheese, spicy Dijon aioli, pickles, shaved cabbage, and caraway rye bread. Every bite had great texture and flavor. Unfortunately, the Hillcrest didn't meet expectations. When you think of chicken salad with apples and pecans, you expect that classic creamy chicken salad flavor. This version was much drier, with little to no mayonnaise, and the flavor was very different from a traditional chicken salad. In fact, someone at our table commented that it had an almost "fishy" taste, which was surprising. To be fair, taste is subjective, and I'm sure there are people who enjoy this style of chicken salad, so I'm only sharing the opinion of the person who ordered it. I mentioned the feedback to one of the employees, hoping they might appreciate hearing a customer's perspective, but the response felt indifferent, which was disappointing. With tip I think the total was around $17. That was a touch more expensive than I was expecting especially with just a bag of chips on the side. The sandwich was good. Between the blue cheese and the ranch it was really creamy and most of the toppings slide off with the second bite. I don't mind a mess though! The ciabatta bread was the perfect compliment for the sandwich. It was a cute spot and I especially liked the creative sandwich names. I'd go back and try the chicken ceasar wrap next time.

I always order the fluffy on GF with no cheese, and he always orders the Italian on GF with no cheese. There is cross contamination, so if you are celiac, you can ask them to change gloves, use a clean knife, and keep your sandwich away from the others. We have almost never received the correct order without cheese the first time, but they don't make a fuss when asked to remake the sandwiches, and they are very apologetic. These sandwiches are generous with the meat and other fillings, and the pizza-crust-as-bread works so well. We also get their delicious potato salad with our sandwiches. The seating area is not huge, maybe ten tables, but we've never had to wait for one, and we often take our order to go. The restaurant is clean, and parking is fairly convenient. Even with the issue of having to remake sandwiches, I still rate Blake's a solid five star. It's consistently delicious, and I like supporting a small business in my home community.
