We enjoyed another Groucho's location several months ago and when we saw this one in Statesville while looking for a place to stop for lunch, I think the car may have just driven us here to keep us happy, lol! We started with a couple of Dr. Brown's diet cream sodas which were tasty and refreshing. In my effort to eat better, I ordered the Chicken Power Salad with Danish Bleu dressing and without cucumber, while Hubby ordered a Big Dipper sandwich with no pickle. The salad was fresh, crunchy and filling, and Hubby enjoyed his sandwich with chips. Charity did a great job making sure we were taken care of and brought us additional cream sodas. This corner location is just perfect in downtown Statesville. It boasts plenty of seating inside at the old school benches. There is an array of different sandwiches to please everyone in attendance. The staff is patient and friendly helping you through any tough sandwich decisions. On this visit we tried the Baby sub with chips, pickle and a side of potato salad. The sandwich was amazing packed with tons of ingredients and flavor. I although didn't care for the vinegar based potato salad. My wife had the BLT Chicken Critter sandwich w/ potato salad and was very delicious. I would recommend trying this nostalgic sandwich shop as I will be frequenting it regularly. read more

This little sandwich shop in downtown Statesville is quite nice. I haven't been in yet, but have ordered delivery from them many, many times in the past year. (They pack very well for delivery too, with everything arriving in great shape.) All the food is fresh & crisp. The sandwiches are great and the salads are a great size. The dippers are sandwiches with an au jus type sauce or a dressing; my husband enjoys those. My fave is the Deli Club for 2. They double the meat, and include 2 bags of chips and pickles. It's the perfect size lunch for a couple. Their club sandwiches are great! I highly recommend Groucho's for great sandwiches and salads and am looking forward to eating inside. read more

In all my visits, and i do visit often when in Statesville, I have only had one less than favorable experience several years ago. And that visit was during the week around lunch time time. I do expect that any place will not be great every time. Circumstances vary. But over all, one less desirable experience out of a hundred, and yes I eat here too often, does not diminish the great food and experience I get. I leave happy with my choice. The club and the Slaw Dog are two of my go to when i am too hungry to look over their great selection of foods to eat. The service is great by people who obviously want to give you the experience you will love and keep you coming back. Statesville has some fine food establishments to satisfy your hunger. We were car shopping in the Statessville area this week and wanted to try a new lunch spot. Groucho's appeared to be liked by many. My wife and I felt our sandwich baskets were boring. My wife got the Reuben. It was served on I toasted and Un grilled bread. I ordered a "flavorful" international sub sandwhich. It was served in a hoagie roll with a slice of cheese and packed with a characterless ham )nothing else but an oil and vinegar dipping sauce). Visited for lunch today, super cute restaurant on the corner of downtown Statesville! Honestly I was looking for another place and walked in by mistake! A happy mistake! Everyone here is wearing masks and social distancing protocols are practiced. The servers are so kind and my food came out so quickly! My sandwich, a turkey and ham melt with swiss cheese was yummy! My plan was to eat half and take the other half home, but it didn't make it! I ate the whole thing! The ham and turkey were shaved to the point that they were falling apart and the bread was fresh. For me, the bread was too much. I'm not a fan of big huge rolls, but am sure I'm in the minority. Still, it was soft and delicious, I just peeled off one side of the bun as best I could. The tea was sweet and fresh! Anyone who's had skunky tea knows how important fresh is. I took mine to go which I rarely do. I will definitely be back to try other sandwiches! read more

This Restaurant NEEDS some work.... Today I went out with my family for a sit down meal, it was packed! Funny that most of the seats that we're taking up were by the trash and leftover food that the employees did not decide to pick up yet. once I finally got a seat, it took almost more than 20 minutes for a employee to come around and take our order and I'm not going to say that all that was the reason of this one star review, anyways me and my family decided instead of having to wait that long we might as well get takeout. But my mouth was opened once I saw what was in my food! there was a black bug in my food alive still crawling around. I was appalled I even gagged. I have never ever been to such a low tier standing place where there were alive bugs in my food Grouchos you can do a lot better. This is why I strongly suggest you eat somewhere else. read more

Stopped in downtown Statesville on our drive to Raleigh. The food was really good, especially their special sauces. Hubby enjoyed the Reuben and I got the Junior Ham and provolone. The bread is absolutely fantastic. The staff was very friendly and attentive, they even brewed regular and decaf coffee for us. So why only 4 stars? No refills on the coffee offered, coffee in styrofoam cups (just a personal pet peeve), and bathroom needed some attention. We would definitely be back. read more
