I called in the morning, to set up an appointment for the sewer and other drains to be cleaned. Manny was able to set it up for later in the morning. What I liked is that I received emails along the way, like at one point he was a little delayed at another location, so my appointment was adjusted, just by an hour or so. As soon as Manny was done there, I received an email that he was on his way, and he still made it within the original time slot. There was one problem area, which he was able to tackle. He worked fast and cleaned everything out. Another upside; Manny is very nice and personable. Returned from vacation in the middle of the night after long flight delays and 23 hours of travel. Turned on kitchen sink and suddenly had a lake in my kitchen. This was at 1 a.m. between a Saturday and a Sunday. Woke up Sunday morning and started calling plumbers with decent Yelp ratings. Manny and Manhattan Sewer Drain were second on the list. The first place, which I have used before and were fine, did not even answer the phone -- I got a voicemail greeting telling me to call back during business hours M-F. BUT I HAVE A NON-WORKING KITCHEN SINK!!! Manny answered the phone at 7:45 a.m. and said he would come at noon. I did a happy dance and my husband reminded me not to count unhatched chickens. But Manny was true to his word and all went to plan -- I really appreciated the little technological touches that added to my confidence -- he texted and called first to ask for pictures of my under-sink area in order to make sure he had the proper parts for the repair; then I received automated emails letting me know when he was en route, as well as when he was arriving. He came right on time, assessed the situation, went out for parts, came back, fixed my rotted pipe, ran a water test and was on his way within about 45 minutes! I should also mention that this was not just any Sunday, but a snowy one to boot with streets all slushy from an all-day Saturday snowstorm. Manny was super nice, professional, did what he said and transformed my kitchen from a nightmare to its normal functional self in under an hour. That would have been amazing in my book even if it didn't all happen on a Sunday morning! I will definitely call Manny again when I have plumbing nightmares unfolding around me! Final note -- for those who are railing about costs. I just don't know what to tell you except that this is NYC -- it is one of the most expensive cities on earth and it's expensive to run an on-call expert service business here too. I suppose plumbing may cost a little less in other towns but then you have to live in that other town. I notice this is a theme on veterinarian reviews too. It does stink to have to cough up a lot of dough unexpectedly but it doesn't mean someone is trying to fleece you. They have to cover their costs in order to keep their business afloat and be there for you when you need them! As for me, my repair cost in the neighborhood of $600 which was reasonable in my book for the service provided including the time and parts. I added a gratuity (cash and a gourmet chocolate bar) to express my thanks for the quick and professional service especially outside of normal business hours. The slow-moving drain in the tub went to completely clogged with standing water-Yuck! My super wasn't available so decided to find a plumber on my own and found Manhattan Sewer. Based on Yelp reviews called Manny & called me back right away, and was here the next day and problem solved in no time. I actually stumbled upon Manny and his company on Yelp. As a building owner, my "regular" guys were busy and I had no choice but to call the major commercial companies, AKA Roto Rooter... Dealing with them was a nightmare... Called their # and was transferred to a nationwide operator. They told me someone would call me back.. Which they never did. I was looking for someone local in the area to do the job. And BAMN Manhattan Sewer Drain popped up on Yelp. Browsing his credentials and reviews, Manny's company seemed promising. I immediately called him and he picked up right away. I told him that I had an emergency with the sewer backing up and my commercial tenants were getting increasingly frustrated.. Told Manny about the issue, he told me that we would be there within 2 hours and would call me as soon as he leaves his current job! In an hours time, he called me up with a update. Told me that he was on his way! He showed up on time and I was getting email updates throughout the entire process. Never had a used a company so professional and honest! I sent them a photo of my leaky sink on Saturday and they replied shortly after with an estimate of $290, for three replacement parts and the labor. I made an appointment for Monday at 9:30 a.m. but didn't realize that they were going to call to confirm. They called at 8:00 a.m. but I was sleeping and didn't hear the phone. After calling once more, they cancelled my appointment, which I discovered 45 minutes later when I woke up and checked my voice mail. That was the only stumble in an otherwise positive experience. I wish they had told me when I made the appointment that they would be calling 90 minutes before to confirm that I was home. Fortunately they were able to schedule me for a 3:00 p.m. appointment the same day. Manny the plumber came on time and fixed the problem in about an hour. He had to use a pipe cutter and replace the three parts. The bill was exactly as estimated: $290. Plumbing repair isn't cheap in NYC and, while I don't have a frame of reference (this is only the second time I have called a plumber), this seems a fair price or at least the going rate for plumbers. The parts were $120 and so I assume the labor was $170. They e-mailed me a receipt while I waited. Manny was very polite and did a good job. He explained that the pipes just wear out, it was nothing particular that I did to my sink, they just don't typically last more than 5 years. I guess they don't make pipes like they used to because I grew up in an old farmhouse and those pipes, from the early 20th century, were never replaced and never leaked. But looking at the thin rusted-out pipes that he took out, I am not surprised they don't last longer. When my bathtub was draining water slowly I got on Skype and contacted several plumbers. I was surprised at how many plumbers wanted to charge me to come over just to look, and one company wanted to charge me for parking. Of all the companies I contacted, Manhattan Sewer Drain was definitely the best. The price was reasonable and I was not going to be charged just for someone to come over and look, or to park. For more than a year our building super and the building's plumbers unclogged our toilet over and over. It would be ok for awhile, then clog a gain.
