We had a $27k contract for JES to stabilize the foundation of our garage in Charlottesville and to address water that would seep into the basement during heavy rain events. The main work was done very well and professionally. The contract, however, also called for drilling a long hole into the end of a wall through multiple cinderblocks to drain the water intrusion that was getting specifically into the basement's stairwell wall. There was no other access point to the bottom cinderblocks of the stairway wall. It was a clever solution written into the contract, and the provision specifically stated that JES would bring a 36-48-inch masonry drill bit in order to drill a hole long enough to accomplish the goal. After the team completed the main work, we pointed out the need to finish the job by drilling this hole, but they did not have such a long bit with them. We then reached out many, many times over many months to get this hole drilled. Most often we were met with silence, but when we ultimately have gotten a response, the person would say, "Sorry, we will get that done." Twice, JES workers have actually shown up -- but without a long drill bit. They would then look at the situation and understand why the long drill bit was needed, say they would arrange for it to happen, and then radio silence. After we posted a longer version of the story as a review, apparently higher-up JES management people got involved and pretty quickly sent someone out with the right drill and bit to finish the contracted work. Presumably, some HR training has happened also and given that the job is now complete with the vast majority of it having been done well and in a timely manner -- I've now upwardly revised my rating. read more

BUYER BEWARE!! Misleading Sales Recommendations, Poor Communication, and No Follow-Up On April 29, 2026, a JES representative named Zeke conducted our annual inspection of the encapsulation system that JES originally installed. During the inspection, he stated that our dehumidifier was "showing signs of failure" and strongly recommended replacing it. He initially quoted $4,125 for the replacement but quickly reduced the price to $3,500. When we asked what diagnostic data supported his recommendation and whether the unit could be repaired instead, we received no satisfactory answers. I contacted the dehumidifier manufacturer directly and learned that JES technicians should contact the manufacturer's technical support to diagnose error codes and troubleshoot the equipment. According to the manufacturer, no one from JES had contacted them regarding our unit. To verify the recommendation, we hired two independent crawlspace environmental companies to inspect the system. Both companies confirmed that the dehumidifier was operating properly and did not need replacement. Based on these independent inspections, we believe the recommended replacement was unnecessary and would have cost us $3,500 for equipment that did not need to be replaced. Concerned by these findings, I requested that a manager inspect the crawlspace and address our concerns. On May 15, 2026, JES manager JB Samuel visited our home and confirmed that the dehumidifier was working properly, validating that the original replacement recommendation was unnecessary. While he corrected one critical drain concern and added a bolt to the crawlspace door, he also identified additional concerns that had not been noted during the original inspection. It has now been 8 weeks since our original inspection and 6 weeks since the manager's visit, yet we have received NO FOLLOW UP regarding those issues. On June 11, 2026, I sent a certified letter to Dree Gooding, General Manager of the Ashland, VA location, detailing our concerns and requesting a written plan of action. JES has not responded to the letter or provided any resolution. Our experience has been extremely disappointing. We were given a costly replacement recommendation that multiple independent inspections determined was unnecessary. Even after a manager confirmed our dehumidifier was functioning properly, JES failed to communicate, follow through on the remaining issues, or respond to our certified correspondence. BUYER BEWARE!! Before approving expensive repairs or equipment replacements, make sure you get a independent second opinion. I wanted to get an estimate on what it would cost to encapsulate the crawlspace under my house. I young man came in, went under my house to inspect to see what would need to be done. I was hearing some banging noises and come to find out that he had done damage to a few of the joists that were perfectly fine. I think he used a screwdriver. Yes, there were a couple of floor joists that are going to have to be fixed but not as many as the young man had stated at least not until he started clawing into the joists and unnecessarily damaging them. I now have to pay to have those joists sistered before ever considering selling my home. I am very very angry and have lost a lot of sleep over this. JES promised to return to the property to address the issues, but would not show up. On April 18, 2026, they finally/hopefully addressed the issues. Now waiting for JES to arrange a third inspection so we can complete the job, but once again they are non-communicative. The quality of the work has been amateur at best. They have yet to finish the job since Dec 19, 2024 First the first crew dug up the wrong area in 2 places, sent a second team out to correct it. Then a third team was sent out to dig up a drench line with drainage pipe and rock that the first team filled over with dirt. Was suppose to leave with the rock on top without dirt to drain. At the bottom of the basement steps they left a box with a sup pump inside that pulls out all the water, which works, but without a grate to step on as requested and has large holes in it that debris can easily fall into , clogging it up. Not to mention stepping onto a hurting ourselves. There were a lot of problems on the job. A lot more. But they don't care to return and finish. We've used them several times before. The initial work completed by JES failed inspection and didn't seem worth the money I paid. I had my crawlspace encapsulated and my house leveled. Trying to speak with anyone on the phone was extremely difficult until I wrote a review. They have adjusted their work to satisfactory levels but the experience was not great. I was upset with the door they installed. The first attempt was 4 bolts with wingnuts that you had to undo each time you wanted to access the crawl. It was awful. Tyler replaced the awful door with one that has an outswing and simple bolt. I don't know why the first option was ever presented to me... truly ridiculous product that shouldn't be on any home. They replaced the insulation that was cut 16", one third of a sheet, with 24", half of a sheet, as they should have done the first time. It caused a my inspection to fail and hopefully everything passes this time. It really made me wonder why they would deviate so heavily from a plan? What was there to gain? I am not sure how the encapsulation is going to impact my home. There are still crickets in the crawl space. I was under the impression that the conditioned space would eliminate points of entry or environment that would support wildlife. Overall, I am happy that I had the work completed, but frustrated with the experience, feeling like I must look like a total rube or something. I had a very disappointing encounter with a salesperson from JES last week. Discovering a water problem is never good news for a homeowner. Then to receive a $20k estimate is even worse news. I was told I would be offered an "efficiency discount" of $2k but I had to sign same day. I explained that I needed to think because it is so much money. I declined because I felt pressured. I recently had JES come out to repair a small section of sidewalk and my front porch. When we were sold on the foam treatment, we were told they would leave just a few small holes. Instead, I was left with a large, uneven, black mound on the porch (I included photos). When I asked the crew why it looked like that, they told me I could just grind it down or paint the entire porch to hide it. There was also a gap left between the slab and the brick that we never discussed. When I asked if they planned to caulk it, I was told not to worry about it--and then offered to pay $600 if I wanted them to do it. I followed up with the salesman, Blake, more than once and never got any resolution. This was all after they refused to honor an emailed 15% discount, claiming it was a "marketing mistake" even though we called to book immediately. I would not recommend this company to anyone. What you're told and what you actually get are two very different things, and when you ask for help afterward, you're pretty much ignored. Avoid. read more

Being given the runaround by JES. Signed a contract with JES. JES has failed to meet Contractual Obligations as well as their own published standards. - No engineer was onsight during the initial install of leveling jacks. We were told there would be an Engineer insight. No foreman was onsite during the initial sitework. This has led to unexpected and increased costs on the homeowner due to additional repairs being needed that should have been identified by the foreman or engineer had they been present, and that the initial crew did not identify as well as delays on the final inspection. We were told an Engineer was supposed be insight. On the second site visits by an actual foreman to make adjustments to the jacks, he looked at the main beam we were told that should have been identified and fixed during the initial work. The beam was identified during the initial pre contract walk through. Yet it was not addressed during the initial work. The contract and brochures state that JES will come out and adjust the jacks at the homeowners request. After repetitive calls to JES an appointment was cancelled without notice, the points of contact for sight work are hard to reach, do not return calls or communicate changes to the homeowner. An existing jack was left in place and should have been replaced by the initial crew or other crew that had to repair the joists/ridgebeam under the house and identified the fact the jack should have been replaced with their intellijack system. The homeowner purchased the 3 year service plan and JES has failed to live up to those Contractual terms . The homeowner has spent at a minimum $10,000.00 and has had a very unsatisfactory experience with JES management, supervisors and employees. Substandard work was done and the homeowners attempt to get this rectified have been ignored and the bare minimum has been done to rectify the situation. Two back to back no show scheduled appointments 26 July and 8 August 2025. At 2:30 Anthony the Regional Manager said Zach would call and come over after completion of another job, After hrs of waiting and the 6:O3pm Zach was a no show and did not call. I would give this company zero stars if I could. We hired them for two jobs: Fixing a basement leak and replacing the concrete Raising the concrete around our pool so Vubo stone could be installed The basement job left us with a noticeably sloped floor along a 20-foot wall. We were told a repair would be scheduled, but no one ever showed up--and after multiple calls, we stopped getting any response. To fix the slope ourselves, we had to order ¼-inch thicker flooring just to make it even. This cost us an additional $800. The bigger issue is with the pool concrete. When the Vubo installers arrived, they immediately noticed the concrete hadn't been raised correctly. Now, our stonework project may be delayed by 8 weeks unless this company resolves the issue immediately. We've called 11 times in the past 48 hours, including reaching out directly to their regional manager, Dalton Craig via telephone and text. No response. No returned calls. No action. We also contacted their customer service team and felt dismissed and unheard, especially by someone named Stephanie who was wildly incompetent and unwilling to think outside the box to help. Their policy is to "send an email" when there is an issue. I requested she email or instant message her boss and explain the urgency but she refused. Our issue is that if this project is delayed, we could potentially have an inground pool, open, with no fencing. This is a huge liability. Communication has been frustrating at every level. We paid $20,000 for these projects, and we're left with uneven concrete and delayed construction. This has been an incredibly stressful and disappointing experience. For almost 10,000 dollars we got lies after lies, unwillingness to take any responsibility by those I communicated with. Brian P. Was the person who gave me the estimate and signed the contract with. Tray was the supervisor who became involved because of Brian's constant lying. On many instances Brian promised do what he had promised to do by the end of the day. He never did it. Tray at the end behaved the same way as Brian. He promised to sign a letter stating that he will come and inspect some of the work done. I believe he said that because he was not ware I had paid JES for all the work. When I told him that I had made the payment in full, I did not receive anything from him. Contracted for a crawl space drainage system in April 2025 at a cost of $20k, a lot of money for real people. After job was done noticed problems, Sprinkler hose was cut, a drain pipe clogged and worst of all, water still collecting in the crawl space. JES does not stand behind their work nor keep their word. Operators, salespeople and other office workers cheerfully relay your message to the Project Manager who then ignores it. If you are very persistent and maybe a little rude, the Project manager will contact you, promise to send out a tech who will not show up,(has happened twice already). My experience with JES was and continues to be a nightmare. Being a first time homeowner, I was still learning about its maintenance. The rep who came out made a mistake about the loan I would need to pay for the moisture barrier and dehumidifier installed in the crawlspace. The rep did not have a good understanding of the loan terms and after an undisclosed introductory period, the monthly cost more than doubled. It was a financial blow. Installation Day. A crew of three came out, one being the project manager. Two men went under the house and having no sub-flooring, I was able to hear every insult, complaint, and curse word uttered for the time it took for them to install it. I heard them say that there was asbestos in the space and that they weren't paid enough to deal with it. Discovering asbestos was concerning and I went to speak with the manager about halting the work until I could have it safely removed. It turned out that it was not asbestos and they proceeded. In the end, the work was sloppy and inoperable. They left a large gap in the trap door where the wires came through, allowing moisture, bugs and other undesirables to get through the gap. A moisture monitor was neither given to me, nor never set up despite that being part of the package I paid for. I took photos and showed the main office. They agreed it was sloppy work and made the same installers come out to fix it. Their excuse was that the weather had turned and it was about to pour. Not an acceptable excuse. As an apology, they offered me two years free of charge for servicing.. I just called to schedule it and there is not record of their offer in my plan. A yearly service fee is $242. Needless to say, I got bamboozled and have learned my lesson. The cost of the service was over $6000. I still have moisture problems, the humidifier shuts off from time to time, the moisture gage was never set up and I can tell that something is under the house because my mother's beagle alerts as if she found a rabbit. Our experience with JES was absolutely horrible and we would not recommend hiring them. Our issues started when we purchased a home that had over $50k of repairs done in the crawlspace approximately 4 years ago. What we actually found out was that the work was never finished and never inspected, yet the former homeowners paid for the work. The former homeowners were in their 90's and were completely taken advantage of - we simply inherited the problems. Once we determined that the project was abandoned by JES, we attempted to work with them to resolve the outstanding issues. We were told by their Permit Coordinator that she just recently discovered over 1800 jobs beginning in 2018 that were erroneously closed out by a former employee and she was going through them to determine their status. That in and of itself is a scary number of customers that may have no idea that their work was actually never completed as promised. In a current search of our City's permit site, it appears that there are numerous permits which were never inspected/closed out for projects handled by JES since 2018! To say working with JES and attempting to resolve our issues was a difficult and frustrating endeavor is an understatement. Their honesty, reliability and integrity as a company is absolutely an issue. It has taken countless phone calls, emails and meetings to actually have them complete the work and not without a great deal of effort from us to get them to live up to their agreements. The amount of time, money and energy that they wasted to complete this project was unbelievable. At least eight JES experts - with eight different opinions came through our home. They kept pressing us to accept short cuts - or even worse tried to bundle additional work that was needed so that the cost to finish the original work would not all be borne by them. One of them was downright nasty to us, lied about various situations and argued every step of the way. Even our local Permit Manager was frustrated with the number of issues they caused - including lying to him about various issues. We ended up hiring a structural engineer to inspect the work at several junctures and to ensure that JES completed the job because of our lack of confidence that they were being honest on numerous levels. The structural engineer determined that when JES abandoned the project in 2020, the main beams were replaced in sections at different heights and would not pass an inspection. There were shims that were added in the wrong places, many weren't holding anything up and ones that were missing. The previous owners had paid for crawlspace equipment that was never delivered or installed. It was also determined that the majority of the floor joists, sill plate and band board was totally rotten, which was not fully revealed to the previous homeowner. The former owners also paid for an extended maintenance agreement, which was supposed to be a full review of the crawlspace including equipment and structural merit on an annual basis. It was a shock to know that none of those "experts" cited that the original work performed by their company was done improperly and that there was missing equipment. While we were told that the space needed some additional floor joist and sill plate replacement - it did not reveal all the areas that were in desperate need, nor anything relative to the missing structural or mechanical work. They also confirmed the humidity levels were perfect, only to find out they were well above optimal percentages. Here's the warning for homeowner's that are contemplating hiring JES... multiple sales people told us that JES sells their services in smaller projects. So in other words if an owner needs 100k worth of work, they will not reveal that because a homeowner will not sign up for that much work in one shot. So they piece meal things ... once you are on the hook, they continue to point out "new" problems. Our crawlspace needed a great deal of work performed, but they only focused on the encapsulation and main beam. When we had JES in to review the crawlspace, it was determined that an additional $30k of work was needed - but in actuality it was closer to $60k when we asked if it included everything in the space rather than the "piece meal" version. When we brought in another contractor we were quoted over 50% less than JES for all the additional work. Buyer beware! So where do things stand now almost a year later - the work from 2020 is now complete and has been inspected by both the City and our engineer. We are still waiting for confirmation that the maintenance agreement will be extended. We initially requested the agreement cover the next four years, since that is the amount of time that has passed since JES abandoned the job and received full payment on the work and extended agreement. If you expect good customer service after the sale, forget about it. We had scheduled a porch lift, which was not successful. We fully understand that work is not guaranteed for this kind of project. However, our attempts to speak with anyone about other options fell on deaf ears. We called innumerable times and got bounced from sales to service to scheduling. Finally we got a return voice message from a supervisor. When we tried to return his call, we got a message that his voice mailbox was full (we tried multiple times over more than a week). Seems to me that JES missed an opportunity to provide additional services that might have. At the very least, we should have been able to speak to a supervisor to discuss why the work was not successful, rather than relying on the installation crew. read more

I DO NOT recommend JES for foundation repair. Absolutely do not trust the JES to assess what is wrong with your foundation. JES assessed the foundation damage on my home and developed a scope of work. They completed the scope of work. The Assessment and subsequent scope of work did not address key problems that were wrong with our foundation and the house continued to sag. I called about the warranty. They wanted additional $$$$$ to fix the items that they did not identify in their assessment. They were completely full of excuses as to why their assessment did not include all the damage. They said "that damage did not exist 6 months ago when they did their inspection." However reputable contractors have all said the same thing...that is damage that takes 10 years to get that bad and it could not have happened in 6 months. JES came out to do an inspection, where we had some interior water damage. We have an English basement on our 186 year old house. They gave me a few possibilities as to why we had water issues and discussed some options as to what to do from that point. I waited a week to hear back and didn't receive any correspondence. So I had to call JES again..., they told me that the manager had decided that they didn't want to do the job because they weren't sure what they would find when they dug the trench outside. They were afraid that the old bricks would fall out of the wall. Don't bother calling JES..they simply wasted my time. I would not use them again. One of the reasons I chose JES was there seemed to be many customers with a good experience. We were certainly not one of those customers. The original work, scheduled for one week, stretched out over seven. To be clear though, that included the holidays, so let's call it six weeks. Six return trips were required to finish the work. From the beginning, the on site crews clearly had no supervision. Each time a follow up was scheduled, the foreman was apologetic. But each time, the work was not completed and stretched out longer. There seems to be no formal communication from one crew to the next, or from one foreman to the next. None of these were even our biggest issues. We have a brand new duel fuel heat pump. The trenching process moved dirt that blocked the condensation line, effectively breaking the heat unit. We had to pay the HVAC company to determine the issue, and had to remediate on our own. Also, a heating duct was knocked down and damaged. After a very poor patch job on the duct, JES did agree to deduct the cost of the duct repair from our total bill. While repairing the duct, the HVAC company found a second damaged spot. JES never mentioned the second damage. To give due credit, the foreman assigned to the last few weeks of the job was much better about communication. He answered calls and texts promptly. And I did speak to a manager the very last day of work. But by that point things were pretty out of control already. Everyone was polite and apologetic, explaining that such things shouldn't happen. But it did, over and over. I was expecting some follow up visit upon completion of the job, explaining what we should expect, maintenance, etc. But there has been none. I even wrote to the president of JES. I offered before submitting any review, I would accept an explanation or call or something. Nothing, no reply. As I explained to the manager, I like being a happy customer. I have left many positive reviews on Yelp. I like helping businesses. But here, I just have to be honest. read more

We always appreciate honest feedback and recommendations, and we received that from Anderson. When Anderson came out and told us the details, he was not only extremely knowledgeable, professional, kind, funny, explained in detail what needed to be done. He clearly outlined what was important and should be prioritized. He also sent us all the details in writing immediately after our appointment. We didn't hesitate to make an appointment because if Anderson says his guys do an incredible job then we wouldn't want any other company working on our home. JES came to encapsulate our crawlspace and estimated it'd take 4 days. It would up taking 7 days but there were numerous issues with large gaps in the vapor barrier, unsealed holes in the insulation on the walls and they damaged two pipes, causing leaks. The leaks were not present during our pre-inspection and JES put some paper towels down proving they knew about the leaks but never told us about them. The eventually sent A-1 Plumbing in to repair everything but A-1 was equally inept and unprofessional. The dehumidifier JES installed leaked and flooded the crawlspace after running just a few hours. We found it by chance and assume JES never tested it before they left. We shut it odd and called JES who sent a tech the next day. This tech "fixed" the problem and left so we went down to check the unit and it was leaking again. After another call, JES sent a supervisor our who said the dehumidifier was installed incorrectly. They finally got it installed right but if we never went into the crawlspace we'd have gotten completely flooded and screwed by horrible workmanship. Edit (31 Mar 2019): JES management and local supervision came back and went through the installation to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We're reasonably pleased with their response but they still should have taken this level of care during the install and not to try to remove poor reviews. Local supervision needs to be on site to inspect the work while it's being performed. Edit (30 Apr 2019): The work JES performed failed the building inspection due to them not installing the correct insulation (they used R-11 instead of R-19) so they had to come back out again. This time they arrived in the late afternoon and worked until 7pm but failed to let us know they were coming late so we waited around all day for them to show up. Workmanship was bad, as usual, with areas not insulated and gaps in the insulation. There was no on-site supervision which would alleviate the vast majority of their issues but they continue to underdeliver in both quality and workmanship. read more

I wish I could rate this a zero because that is what the services are worth. Anderson came to our house and inspected the crawl space and was nice but he was talking trash about his own wife. I didn't think anything of it because we were exhausted from moving and then finding all the damage that we did. Had I not been so exhausted from all of the above and 2 toddlers I would have said absolutely not. My husband would never dare talk about me in such a manner. He drew up where everything would be in the crawl space would be and the drain for when it rained. The first crew came out and had no idea what they were doing. They didn't cut the concrete, they JACKHAMMERED the concrete. There was no communication. Never knew when they were coming. Left concrete slurry all over my husband's grill cover and my brand new car. There was a spray painted line across our driveway where the drain pipe was supposed to go as discussed with Anderson. Nope they put it directly beside our house and didn't even try to bury the pipe. When it rains the water floods directly out of the drain and towards the crawl space. It defeats the entire purpose. They "finished" the job and left the white covering over the drains in our concrete. There was trash left all around my house in the front yard. I knew it wasn't there prior because I had cleaned our entire yard the week before because it was 70 degrees that week. The cherry on top was we had a dumpster and they dumped the remaining concrete/rock mix beside it. I didn't even notice until months later. I complained and someone came out. There were 2 guys and they were mad at what they saw and were under the impression that it was just a small section that needed to be fixed. They even stated that the crew that came out only knew how to do crawl spaces but not concrete. Apparently everyone was supposed to get training and the guy even said it's not something that can be learned so easily. Then he stated that someone in management had been let go. Then next there was another guy that came out. He saw the concrete, checked under the house. Told us the dehumidifier was fried. He said he was going to come back and never came back. Called once again and I'm pretty sure the first crew came back out again but with a foreman. The foreman ended up leaving. It was done wrong again. JES hired an outside company to redo the drain/concrete. We were even told that they would take 2 grand off for the inconvenience. It is already cracking, there was slurry all over my car once again because there was no communication on when they would be there, the concrete isn't sealed, they power washed the paint off of my back door and there was even water inside my home on my brand new wood floors, there is a corner where it drops down at least 4 inches. They had boxed it off to frame it and screwed a 2x4 into my siding. I have a 2 and 3 year old that could seriously hurt themselves. My 2 year old has trouble walking and has fallen off of that "step" since. We keep getting bugged/threatened about paying the remainder and going in circles on the phone. The man on the phone kept gaslighting us, ignoring our frustrations. All he cared about was getting paid. Had their foreman Vivian come out to look at things we had a problem with. Not the first sorry. Seemed annoyed that he had to even be out here. We listed all concerns and all that was suggested was adding a bunch of dirt to cover the pipe and level the edge off. Not only that but to extend the drain 3 feet so it wasn't directly next to the house. Common sense would tell you that the dirt will run off when it storms. He took pictures of the crawl space but acted like he didn't want to show me. Tilted his phone to where I could hardly see the pictures. Never sent us the pictures that he said he would. I'm convinced it wasn't even pictures of our actual crawl space. Our contractor has also seen puddles of water under the house since the job has been done as well but JES denies it. We got a piece of paper in the mail about a change of order. All it says is adding the dirt and extending the drain pipe 3ft. I'm not signing anything. Also what about all our other concerns? The communication is absolutely awful so I doubt other things would even get done just like in the past. Forgot to mention Anderson started to completely ignore us. Oh and I'm pretty sure there was a drug deal that happened at the end of my driveway the first time any work was done. JES did foundation repair for me. They estimated I would need 6 piers but I only needed 5. I was told I would be do a refund or an adjustment to the $14,000 bill they sent me but I cannot get them to contact me back about this refund. I have left 5 messages and no one has called me back over the past month. I'm about ready to call my lawyer. JES will call you and badger you to get the work done but don't expect them to call you back if you are due a refund. The staff have been great and very responsive and keep sending my messages to the management team who refused to contact me. Enough is enough. Buyer beware. read more

DO NOT WORK WITH THEM!!! I've never dealt with a worse company. They falsely disclosed their prices. Mislead you with false information. Their electrician wired my panel incorrectly resulting in damage to a $1500 septic motor and emergency service/replacement costs. They ran my credit a second time - WITHOUT my authorization. Now they're threatening to collect while I'm still working with their management to come to a solution. Hey legitimately do not communicate to their customers before, during, or after. Worst ever.
