I would strongly recommend to anyone wanting to learn how to swim, this is the place!! I took my daughters when they were little to mommy and me swim classes at another park closer to home, bc I thought it was important they know how to swim, they did, but I never did! Well 20+ yrs later, I decided to learn to swim and had heard abt Jesse Owens offered swim lessons, so a friend and I signed up and I'm enjoying it immensely ! This is my fourth day at water aerobics classes, Today I had the pleasure of being an Adam's class. I can say for a fact, I was not ready for his energy. He was off the chain. Subject: A Call for Improvement: Staff Treatment at Jesse Owens Pool I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the treatment of staff at Jesse Owens Pool. As a former LA County lifeguard with seven years of experience, I have firsthand knowledge of the demanding and often challenging nature of this role. It's disheartening to hear reports of mistreatment at Jesse Owens Pool, particularly the unprofessional behavior of manager Samantha. Despite repeated requests, Samantha refused to provide her name or the names of the other lifeguards on duty. This lack of accountability is unacceptable. The way the lifeguards yelled at my nieces and other patrons was both embarrassing and disrespectful. Lifeguards should be setting a positive example, not contributing to a hostile environment. Lifeguard Adam, in particular, was extremely rude and unkind. I was forced to ask him to stop speaking to my nieces after they came over crying due to his constant yelling. I was surprised by the stark contrast between the current staff and the management under Terry, who was significantly nicer and more professional. The current lifeguards' lack of enthusiasm and negative demeanor suggest they may not enjoy their jobs. Don Anderson, the manager when I worked at Jesse Owens Pool, would have never tolerated the mistreatment displayed on Saturday. I was an excellent lifeguard and even administered CPR and saved a young boy in Summer of 2006 at Jesse Owens. The last year of my 7 years with LA County. Several people at free swim recognized me from working there before and from my lap swim earlier in the year at Jesse Owens. It's a shame that the current staff treats people so poorly. Lifeguards should be dedicated to ensuring public safety and providing a positive experience for all patrons. In addition; I will be writing a formal complaint the LA County of Park and Recreations in regards to this inappropriate treatment and behavior from their staff this past Saturday September 7th at free swim from 2-4pm as I have a list of complaints with specific examples. read more

This used to be a great place to be in the summer. I love the pool and even though I can't swim I enjoy 4 feet. I would take my daughter and her friends and we were always there every time it was open. Now it only seems to be open an hour at a time which takes the fun out of swimming and playing because only so many people can get in at a time. read more

How can you beat free swimming? I mean, even as a kid I had to pay a buck to swim! The pool is nice, it has a diving board & my kids love it so I will continue to come here! Note: If you have a son over four or five, do not bring him into the ladies locker room! This lady got cursed all the way out for that ((tho her son was lookin all in everybodies personnel biz)) it was a ugly situation!!! Know your Area and the demographics of the folks who live there and how they get down.. And don't think your gonna do anything crazy because the cops sit right in the front of the building lol.. The 8:30 morning aerobics class is the best. The lifeguards are caring an attentive. Terry & Vanessa do a great job overseeing the program and they are both respected by the group. The aerobic leaders are also respected. We have a good group of participants for the most part who get along and are considerate of others. I drive 25 minutes away to get to this great pool. Signed up for swimming classes (I'm a beginner). Pretty good staff. Clean/heated changing & bathroom rooms. Clean swimming pool.

I come here for water aerobics and it is fantastic . The classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7pm. They have fantastic instructors. I always leave with a burst of energy. There is always line outside to get in each class sessions. The locker room rooms are clean and the pool is nice and warm. I started taking swimming lessons last October. I never thought that I would be able to accomplish jumping into 12feet of water. The morning crew Terry , Joseph, Kristin, Josh, Kevin and Vanessa are incredible. I am now a level two swimmer and I am confident that I will be a level three really soon. The only pool that actually taught me how breath and swim at the same time. Lol. Excellent swim classes with knowledgable instructors. Clean pool and facilities with friendly staff and management. An overall good experience. Actually I love Jesse Owens' pool and staff. They have helped me on my journey to learning to swim as a adult. Water Aerobic classes are the best. Everyone is super nice and welcoming. I've become a regular now. Be sure to have swim attire or you will be turned away and keep an eye our on your towels and shoes when exiting the pool. Lets just say sometimes they go missing. read more

Friends of mine have been taking Aqua Aerobics here for some time now and trying to get me to join them, OK I am on spring break now what better way to start it out exercise, this place is really nice and clean,the staff were very nice and helpful with a smile being its 5:55am class start at 6:00am (sharp) so from 6:00am to 7:00am we were on our feet jumping,hopping,swinging,kneeling,and some scratching and you want to know the very best part about this class is its FREE!! They only charge for swimming lessons which is $20.00 per lesson for 45mins. back to the aerobics its Mon.-Sat. different times.There is no lockers...in the locker room are benches,shower,and restrooms, and green mush bags hanging for you to put your Item in give it to the attendant which will give you an pin with an number on to pin on you,all Items are in this cage area and cage doors with an attendant there at all times,But anything thing free you can count me in,I have this golden rule I try to live by I will try anything once and more then twice if I like it, I will be Back. read more

Love the pool! Been coming here for many years and even took part in the swimming team. Unfortunately the staff members don't seem to enjoy their jobs. They had very crappy attitudes. The lady in the front was so rude. And they didn't allow me to use the family room with my six year old son and expected him to go alone in the males room ... That wasn't ok. I have been going to Jesse Owens for their water aerobics classes for years and I love them. But since you now have to register online, it is so disorganized. I have been trying for weeks to get register. At first I was told the the enrollment date was 7/24/2021. I tried to enroll, but couldn't. I decided to call the pool directly to see if I could get some help, but according to the person I talk to on the phone at the pool just yesterday there is no actual registration date You just have to keep logining in and hopefully registration will be open and the dates and times you would like to sign up for are available. They do not send out notification on when enrollment sign ups start. When you call the pool, the staff has no idea what is going on, so they can't help. It is so frustrating and confusing. I have been waiting to get back to my aerobics classes and now that the pool is open again, this new enrollment process is making it impossible to get back to the pool I have missed so much. read more

Great aqua aerobics class and great teachers. I have no problems with the pool. I attend the evening classes and the Saturday classes.

Went here last year and liked the actual pool and shower facilities and the fact that it's free!!! Didn't give this 5 stars because my first time there they told me I couldn't wear a scarf in the pool. I'm a mature woman not a teenager. I'd been able to tie my hair up in scarves at other locations but not this one. This is a stretch but I was wondering if it was due to gang activity because of its location. Second reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is because when I came out to the parking lot after my 2nd time there, a cop car was riding around in the lot looking at me/my car and i wasn't sure what was up. But then I found that I couldn't close my car door correctly. Did someone try to break in? I had locked my purse in my trunk in full view (I was new to that area) so I don't know if it was a botched burglary attempt or what. Had to stop by my mechanic on way home to get the door fixed. After those 2 events I decided my intuition was telling me this pool wasn't for me so I joined the YMCA. When I mentioned this pool to a friend who lives by Century/Vermont, she told me she doesn't like going in that area. I was like, wow, you live near there what do you mean? Another fellow Y member also told me she wouldn't go in that area when I told her I was thinking about going back over there and dropping the $40/month Y membership since all I'm doing @ the Y is water aerobic classes. So, I'll stay at the Y but I wished this free thing had worked out for me. BTW, I wear my scarves at the Y, no problem. read more
