Conrad is the BEST!!! I had my 2.5 year old twins take lessons at the YWCA, then private lessons through another swim school. These places were a waste of our time. They only practiced blowing bubbles and lying on their backs while I held them, and this went on for months. My son has always had a fear of going under the water. He cried really hard the first day with Conrad, but Conrad was super calming, but also firm. By the second day, my son wasn't crying. Third day, he was smiling and willingly going under the water. Fourth day, he was asking to go swim with Conrad. Fifth day, he was jumping into the pool and able to hold his breath for a while and hang on the side of the pool with the other kids. Conrad's methods are effective and his lessons are worth every dollar. I signed up for one more session, and I'm confident my kids will be swimming by the end of it. Our 4 year old daughter started the week nervous to be in the water and even cried the first day. Conrad was so kind and caring. Amazing Teacher! I took my 3-year-old to a swim class because he's a natural in the water, and I thought he would love it. But he just wouldn't listen to the instructor at all. When I heard about Mr. Conrad's class, I was hesitant--but decided to give it a try. To my surprise, my son was calm, attentive, and followed every instruction without a complaint. I truly believe some people are just born to teach, and kids can sense when someone means business (in the best way!). My ENTIRE family has taken classes here, and we have been nothing short of amazed with the speed at which we gained comfort and confidence in the water. Conrad conducts classes out of the pool in his backyard, and the entire environment is so relaxing. His pool goes to 11 feet deep, and he has plenty of seating for parents when you are watching your children. The process: You have to be ON IT because they fill up fast. You have to sign up online and pay attention to your email. His wife, Londa, will send an email with all the details, and you have to read carefully and make a decision! If you are taking the adult lessons, you have to pay a deposit; but that is not required for children. For kids, there are 10 in a class, while there are only 8 adults. Classes are generally for a week, 1 hour per day. If he can't do a day, he'll make the classes longer to accommodate. Swim to Me offers a serious yet relaxing environment where the goal is to get kids water safe and confident in the pool. My daughter completed 4 week long sessions with Conrad over the course of 2 seasons. The first few days of the first season were challenging. She was nervous. She was scared. She had multiple years of programming from another swim school (which taught her how to float but not how to swim) in the back of her mind. In 5 days she was swimming across the pool to Conrad with her eyes open. She was watching her fellow classmates overcome their nerves and do the same. She was learning discipline and flexing her listening skills as she resisted the urge to play in the pool while others took their turn. She was watching "the big kids" further their growth and aspiring for the day she too would get to jump into the deep end and swim. This year I asked her if she needed to go to Conrad this summer. You have to trust Conrad and the process. Booking a class was a bit frustrating but it's just Conrad and his wife Londa who run it out of their home. Londa was kind and helpful at every turn. My daughter (2y 7mo) just finished her first week and it was definitely hard to watch at first. Conrad was pretty stoic and serious (with a few jokes here and there for the parents) and the shock of being in a pool with a stranger definitely didn't make her any more comfortable, however, I knew this was an important skill she needed to learn. On day 4 she came out of her shell. She went from screaming "i'm done!" and "mama!" while coughing up water to hugging Conrad, telling him about her baby brother and going underwater without batting an eye. I really appreciated how Conrad pushed her a little past her comfort zone all while understanding how scared she was. He matched totally matched her energy and it made it easier for her to trust him. Did she turn into Michael Phelps in one week? Not exactly. But the confidence she gained in the water is a total 180 from where she was. We are booking another week with him so that she can continue to get exposure and stay safe around my parent's pool this summer. read more

We love Conrad. He knows how to work with kids who are scared and nervous. My 5 year old son went from pitching a fit to jumping in and swimming the deep end in just 2 seasons of lessons. My girls gained confidence and security after just a week with him and advanced quickly. He has a fun sense of humor and keeps good control of his classes. Even the littlest most impulsive swimmers. If you have a reluctant swimmer who tantrums and watching swim is torture- stick with it and take heart, by mid week they will be willing and happy confident swimmers on their way to being by water safe. My son tried 2-3 places including the great YMCA, some place on La Cieanega and even a private coach before we heard of Conrad at Swimtome. This review is only for the process of reserving a spot in the classes. But, after reading the reviews of the short swim time and awful experiences parents have had, I'm glad it did not work out. I work as an executive assistant and my boss asked me to look for swim lessons for his children. From the beginning, I introduced myself as my boss' assistant so there was no confusion. This all started back in June 2021. I was too late to sign the kids up in June so Londa told me to reach back out in August. So I did, and she told me it was too late. I understood they must be busy so I told my boss the children would have to wait for next year. I reached back out to Londa on 2/7/2022 and she told me registration starts 3/1/2022 and not to email her and just fill out the registration form on their website. So I waited, I put it in the calendar to be on time and not miss registration day. I submitted the registration form first thing on 3/1 at 8 am and Londa replied on 3/2/22 with all the info. That same day on 3/2 I replied to Londa that we wanted to book two sessions and I provided the dates and times my boss chose. Great, we were on the right track....or so I thought. I didn't hear back from Londa that day but the following day 3/3 I submitted another registration for a friend of the kids to join them, I figured we might be late for that one but might as well give it a shot. So I put a note on the registration if it would possible for this new child to join my boss's kids. I don't hear anything back to confirm the sessions I requested on 3/2 so I sent a follow-up email. Finally, I hear back from Londa on 3/9 responding to the second registration, however she had no idea who I was or that I was referencing my first registration. At this point, I was like okay maybe my emails are going to their spam? So I sent them from my personal email as well. Londa finally replied saying "I'm not sure why I didn't reply but you're too late now". This process was so unprofessional and frustrating. I get it that they are busy, I get that there might be a delayed response time...but to be so unorganized with their inquiries and just say "Oops I'm not sure why I didn't reply" is just unacceptable. There's no way to contact them other than email which is evidently a mess(who even uses Earthlink still?)! I even asked if we can hop on a brief call from the beginning. But no response after my last email. So, if you're not interested in dealing with this back and forth emailing situation I recommend you take your business elsewhere. We found some great classes in the area and we were able to finalize everything in one day! read more

We had a great experience with coach Conrad and his wife Londa. To see the progress of the class and to observe the discipline that yields such incredible results has been one of the most joyous events of our life as parents. Our 3-year-old daughter went from being unable to swim unassisted at the beginning of her first week this summer to being able to swim underwater the length of the pool by herself. Teacher Conrad was by turns patient, stern and funny with her; and lead her and the class towards progress. A lot of the teaching is tailored to every child's temperament, and sometimes it is non verbal, the greenery and beauty of the Swim To Me's pool creates a special natural atmosphere that we and our daughter really enjoyed. We recommend to other parents to acquaint kids to the water prior to the week's class immersion, and also to book two non consecutive weeks to let the lessons at the beginning of the summer consolidate in the Kid's minds. I am 38 and I CAN FINALLY SWIM! My mom recently past and I decided to do a few things that scared me. Learning to swim was one of them. I told my friend and he recommended this place because his friend just learned to swim from Conrad. Well, I didn't believe that someone could teach an adult to swim, let alone, ME! So I said "I spend more on food per week, I'll give it a try!" The first day, I learned to kick with my head down with Conrad holding my hand. The next day, I did it without assistance and Conrad had me add arm movement. By day three, I was swimming!!! Me. I swam from one end (deep side) to the other side (shallow side) multiple times. I was so proud of myself. I have tried the YMCA, private lessons, etc and none have been successful. But here, by day 3, I was swimming! Unafraid to do so! What makes Conrad such a great teacher is that he helps you build confidence by doing things repeatedly. This gives you small wins. So you build up to be able to do more and more. He then tells you and demonstrates what you are doing wrong and how to make it right. When he had me add arm movement on day two, on my first try I was just moving in one place in the pool. I wasn't going anywhere. He told me what I was doing wrong and demonstrated to me how to correct it with proper technique. By my 3rd try I had it. I still have more work to do but I have learned more in those 4 days than I have by any other instructor! This program is worth every penny and I look forward to doing one more class! I took my 3 year old to learn to swim. My chatty child made significant strides in his abilities within a week...we extended it for another week because he was doing so well. He will still need time to swim alone comfortably...but I was impressed with the way the class was conducted. Conrad was stern but fun in his approach and he tailored the lesson to each child's ability. My son splashed and talked a lot during class (he was quite the social butterfly) so he was asked to get out of the water a couple times. After working with the other kids in the class, he was given the opportunity to come back and finish the class. I will be taking my son back next year to strengthen his skills! Kicked out of Conrad's class! I have to say, I was eagerly anticipating this class as I had heard so many great things about it. I felt honored when one of my children was accepted into the class and we arrived early with all of the items Londa specified are necessary. I read all of the rules and felt proud of myself and my 4 year old daughter. Day one. Conrad comes out and jumps in the pool. There were several kids there, about 10. His wife came out to greet everyone and collect payment. I had my check for $275 ready to go. Conrad invites the first child in, then goes around the poolside signaling for each child to come in. When it came to my daughter, he skipped her. I thought perhaps it was because she still had her flip flops on. I took them off, waited patiently for him to come back to her. He did and asked me her name and told me to bring her to him. I did and she began to cry and scream. He dunked her under water 3-4 times. She was crying each time and I'm sure she swallowed lots of water. Because I had read their rules, I knew what to expect and I was calm and did not try to stop him. After a few dunks he put her out and Londa comes over and tells me to wrap her in a towel and maybe take her to the bathroom so she could calm down. She seemed fine on my lap so I stayed and kept her warm. When he came back to her again, she cried again and began to kick....but this time, his reaction was different. He ended the class and put his hand up and gave her back to me. I could not even sit back down and video her. He signaled his wife who returned my check and told me she was not ready. I couldn't believe it. I was thoroughly embarrassed and I felt like he gave up on my daughter without any effort whatsoever. I was soooo committed to this and it hurts me deeply that my daughter was so readily rejected and rendered "untrainable" in so many words. I had a similar experience at LACC, but I thought but Conrad is a "professional" and he can handle her. I was mentally prepared to stick to it and not quit. They say that the kids will cry and complain and that YOU as the parent have to support them from afar and let Conrad "do his thing." He does not introduce himself to the kids, nor does he make it childlike or fun. If you have an older child, maybe 9-10, that is not afraid of the water, maybe this would be fine, but for a small child....RUN! The way that Londa dismissed us was so public (even though she tried to whisper it). Other parents were staring at us as I gathered my things and tried to put on a happy face for my child. There was no opportunity to talk it through. She just handed me back my check and said "Sorry." I have never cried for so long and just felt so completely humiliated as I did my walk of shame to exit the premises. I agree with the other negative reviews. I think he has too many kids in a class and unless your child is agreeable and ready to go, he does not have the time or the patience to deal with them. Maybe he can handle a little crying from a child, but if they decide on a whim that it's too much, your child is out. And it's very 'in your face', no privacy or customer service. read more

5 days, 1 hour per day, and I went from being fearful of the water to being able to float easily, tread water well, and swim the length of the pool. I have a LOT more practice to do, stamina to build, and a lot more to learn. I was so happy with this experience that I returned for a second session to cement what I learned, and work some things that aren't covered deeply in the beginner class, like proper breath. If you have not yet brought your child to Conrad, you are one of the lucky ones who came to this site to read his reviews and save yourself money, precious time and frustration as well as your child from emotional trauma. Advertising your services as "Private Lessons" when your child get less than 3.5-4.5 minutes of swim time in a hour long class is false advertising and just the beginning of what you should expect when coming here. Conrad has way too many kids in a class and no child got more than 10 minutes of time. Meanwhile the others just hang out and get restless so when they are not on the steps being patient and waiting for Conrad to summon them, they get scolded in front of everyone. Our 3.5 year old son Jax is not afraid of the water. We are lucky to have a pool where he has been playing, jumping from 5 foot platform and diving in since he was 2. Three weeks prior to coming to Conrad, we got rid of his floaties and he was even doing front flips in the pool. I took JAx to Conrad so he can learn proper technique and learn to properly swim rather than have me next to him by his side all the time. Day 1, Jax was so scared to see the other kids being dunked and coughing he got scared and was crying a lot. I was so mortified to see him like that, only because I know he is not scared of the water. I even took him home that night back in our pool to make sure he was fine. Day 2 was same thing with Jax screaming every time Conrad called on him. While in the pool, Conrad didn't seem to care at all and you can see he was growing frustrated with Jax. Jax was saying I don't want to come here. Day 3, I was wanting to say something to Conrad, but I decided I was going to let him do his thing as he claims to be a "whisperer of some sort" but nothing had changed with Jax other than he was scared of Conrad and just didn't trust him. On day 4, I decided to bring Jax mom with me thinking maybe Jax would be more comfortable if his mom was there as sometimes, he would be screaming for his mom when in Conrad's clutches. At one point, Conrad looked at the other parents and rolled his eyes right in front of me while Jax mother was trying to get Jax to go into the pool. At the end of day 4, his mom said to me, "Did you really pay for this? Conrad didn't even spend 5 minutes with Jax". "Has it been like this all week?" Conrad didn't say or do anything to try to remedy the issue. He skipped over my son each and every day. I also had my Iphone with me and used my stop watch because I was getting annoyed that his session was so short and the intervals were so long. Less than 90 seconds 3 times in an hour. There was another kid who was a decent swimmer and he not only got more turns, he got a lot more time with Conrad and Conrad was so proud of this kid because he was making Conrad look good. Conrad was even gesturing for applause. That's what Conrad does...he plays favorites. Not only with the kids but also with the parents. After the 4th day, I emailed Conrad with my concerns. I didn't ask for my money back or make up classes. There was one young girl that was also real scared on Day 2 so Conrad let her ride on his shoulders in the water and she became more comfortable after that. Why not do that with my kid I thought? I asked him about that as well as a few other things and he didn't reply. I also sent Conrad 2 short video clips I took during the week of Jax jumping off a 5 ft platform and holding his breath all the way to me as well as well as diving off the edge of the pool to me. Conrad response was no different than his attitude towards me and Jax all week. "If Jax was as comfortable in the water as you say he is then in my mind there was no excuse for his behavior" Are you clueless Conrad? Maybe he doesn't trust you and maybe you should have done more to try to engage with him. How can he trust you in 90 seconds? "I found his behavior confusing" Well, then why would you not make ANY effort to find out why or speak to me before or at the end of your work day, in person or in email? When I mentioned to him I read a lot of his reviews on Yelp and it seemed to be a consistent theme of complaints from lack of pool time, lack of sensitivity to kids, lack of communication and lack of standing behind the service you provide, his response was exactly what I thought it would be, "I can't let a couple of hateful reviews govern my life or how I conduct business" First of all, it's not "couple" of reviews, its 16 out of 90 which is just under 20%. If 2 out of every 10 people in my class were so unhappy to the point they posted a negative Yelp review, I would be concerned and try to identify the issues and address them other than sending this response to me, "it sounds like you didn't need me anyway" Do yourself a big favor...if you don't want to waste $280 and possibly scar your child from going into the water, find another place to get real swimming lessons. read more

We sent our 5 year old and 3 year old to Swimtome after reading how Conrad can get *many* kids comfortable swimming in a short time. We ended up with a 3 year old with PTSD after nearly drowning (twice!) where on 2 separate days we (the parents) had to save him because Conrad didn't even notice with the large class sizes and no lifeguards! Read on for details. The class size was promised to be 6-8 people but ended up being 10. This is too many young children in a pool simultaneously for Conrad to keep safe while trying to teach one person at a time. This also means your child is only engaged for an average of 6 minutes ($10 per minute) each day. I'm thankful my wife and I watched our children closely because our 3-year old mis-stepped off of one of the stairs and went under on day 4 of 5. Conrad didn't even notice. My wife had to come running across the pool, jump in, and pull him out after being submerged for an extended period. That was traumatic. Londa told us Conrad would have eventually gotten him after "teaching him a lesson" for not sitting properly on the stairs and letting him struggle longer. Teach a 3-year old a lesson by intentionally keeping him submerged, grasping, and inhaling water!?!?! That is criminal mentality. We figured we needed to try to end on a positive note in hopes of not solidifying a fear of water so we sent him the last day. Big mistake! For much of the class the children are expected to hold onto the wall in water deeper than they can stand. Again my 3-year old lost his grip and went under for an extended period. I ran across the pool and pulled him out. Again, Conrad was unaware what had happened. Again my 3-year old was traumatized and ended the week of activities being terrified of going under water and having PTSD symptoms longer term. Sending my 3-year old to Conrad was the BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY PARENTING LIFE! In fairness, my 5-year old who was already comfortable going under water learned to jump into the pool and swim across the pool. The catch? All the children and parents have to deal with Conrad's awkward, inappropriate, and concerning banter throughout each lesson. 80% of his discussions focus on Conrad asking if siblings are boyfriend/girlfriend, if parents are the boyfriend/girlfriend of their children, asking the children who they are attracted to in the class, and Conrad claiming that one of the young girls was his girlfriend. Sadly I just had a very negative experience with Conrad. I didn't even get to the swim class. There is no number on their website and I submitted my form listing my 2 kids that I was hoping to get information on. If you went to the website, you can see for yourself how unclear the information is and therefor the need to talk with someone or get better instructions is a must if you want to trust these people with your little ones. They wrote back to and sent me a long email that was totally unorganized and hard on the eyes and when I asked question back, which I'll post below, I got a rude response saying that I was no longer welcome to work with them. I'm sure they are wonderful instructors but horrible communicators. See below for emails from them. Be careful not to ask questions or they'll ban you. Again, very hurt by this and glad I'm not able to work with these people as they may have negatively influenced my children to be horribly rude like they were in this email. Email chain: From Me; To be honest, your first email wasn't 100% clear but I get it now ;-) It will just be my youngest son attending the class. Is this private? Is this confirmed and will my youngest son know how to swim by the end of this? What can I be seeing after this? Conrad has a kind yet firm teaching style. If you are okay with this, then this is the class for you. If you are not, then this is not the class for you. My kid had taken ten classes at SaMo Swim Center and a couple private lessons and never went under water. Swim to Me/Conrad had her under water by the first day where she cried, of course. The second day she was under water enjoying herself and looking forward to the classes. My only con is that the classes have too many kids so you do feel as if your kid is not getting in enough swim time in that hour. Then again, they do learn how to swim in a week. Their backyard swimming pool is awesome, heated, plenty of covered seating for parents, changing room, and great vibes with music in a gorgeous neighborhood. read more

I asked Londa about the disturbing video that another parent posted here on Yelp, in which Conrad turned his back on the toddler before making sure that the child was safely at the edge of the pool and then the child proceeded to sink underwater before the parent ran to save him, and Londa and Conrad kicked my daughter out of the swim program because I asked them a simple question about pool safety! In my email, I had explained that I have no problem with tough love or pushing children to excel (and in fact agree with such teaching principles) but that I had to make sure that my 3 year old daughter would be 100% safe in their pool. This was the response I received, in an email to which Londa had added "CANCELED" to the subject line: "Hi Karen: Thank you for your input. After sharing your concerns with Conrad he feels you would be better served taking [...] elsewhere. We haven't had a problem with safety in the 24 years we have been teaching swimming. The fact that you viewed a Yelp video that you found very disturbing indicates we are probably not the place for you. Thanks for your interest and good luck with [...]'s lessons. Londa & Conrad" From the other reviews, it looks like perhaps this program may be too intense for 3 year olds and/or is not well-suited to ensure the safety of young toddler swimmers. I signed up (before looking at the Yelp reviews) because a friend of a friend highly recommended this program. Conrad might be a great swim teacher, but my family will never know. It is clear that Swim to Me has no time or patience for parents who have questions of any kind. Perhaps they have too much business to care and only want to collect "easy money" from families who don't cause "trouble" by asking questions. Personally, I find this attitude extremely alarming coming from a provider of child services, and I will never recommend Swim to Me to any family members or friends. read more
