If you have classes/credits in your account- USE them ASAP. Because they have an expiration date! When you purchase a group of sessions - they call them credits. Had I known this I would have not purchased the package swim classes and would have just opted to purchase them one at a time last year . However, as of April 2025 it seems like their website no longer allows for you to purchase one session at a time anyway. From a customer service standpoint no one reached out to us to let me know that my credits would be expiring and that I should book a class soon. So that's a bit of a turn off and a bummer. We live in Hermosa so it's a good 20-25 min drive from our house to get there each time. I'm going to have to rethink whether or not we should continue with them or just look for a closer alternative at this point, given their expiration policy. Seems like such a waste of money. We've come for 1 private lesson so far. As a parent, I love it. My learner also loves it. The teacher is so attentive and supportive and they get right into learning as soon as they get in the pool. The only downside is parking. Make sure you come early to find a spot. Other than that, I really like it here. read more

What an amazing find! A friend was raving about this place so I decided to give it a try. I reached out to the organization via email to ask for guidance on packages. They suggested 15 minute classes and explained the core skills that would be touched upon. I immediately purchased a series of private lessons for my infant son. The only issue I have ever had with this place is scheduling my sessions. Classes book so fast. It was important to me to have some kind of consistency with the classes so my son started classes about 6-8 weeks after I purchased the sessions. Every instructor I had was so good with my son. They were patient and gentle. If he got fussy, they would sing to him. He warmed up to each instructor quickly. By his third lesson he was literally trying to jump in the pool on his own while we waited for our lesson time. I can't wait to resume classes. My little guy loves the water and I feel confident that the instructors will equip my little dude with appropriate strategies for handling the water. read more

As a parent, one of the things I always wanted was for my daughter to know how to swim in the event that anything ever happened that required her to know how to swim. With that in mind, my wife and I started looking for a swim school about 6 years ago and came upon Lucky Duck Swim. We chose this as it had a nice mommy/daddy and me class where we could get our daughter comfortable first being in the water. We did this for about 16 total sessions - she absolutely hated it during these 16 sessions - she did not like the water whatsoever, however, the staff was great and patient. They made it fun and tried to get her as comfortable with the water. Once we were done, we started having her do the individual practice to learn to swim. She blossomed there. The instructors are great, patient, and engaging. They give the students the appropriate support without being overbearing. Our daughter became comfortable with the water and loves it. She even joined their pre-competitive swim team and has been part of swim meets. Ms. Melina is great and coaches well, especially with the younger ones. Highly recommend this place. read more

We came here with our 15 month old baby and we absolutely loved it. The classes were offered online and you can sign up anytime you'd like. We primarily come to the Saturday classes with the baby and me courses. I enjoyed the lesson as there is plenty of singing and easy to do steps. I recommend getting a set of the water diapers they have some for sell at the location, they're particular about the ones you can use at this location. Super helpful staff and parking is limited to the street. We loved it and look forward to coming here with our growing family. read more

Our 2 year old just completed a private 8 lesson plan with Lucky Duck, and we really cannot say enough about them. She was upset through the first lesson, as it was all really new to her, and her instructor Ms. Natalie was kind, patient, and loving with our girl. Through all her screams in that first lesson, Natalie didn't get rattled once. Even though she was upset, when I got into the pool with her after and was working on some of the things that her instructor had done with her, she was doing them! So she still learned. After that, our girl really took to the lessons and learned SO SO much in just 8 classes. We would love to continue her lessons, but I start school next week. Otherwise, we would continue her on. Next summer, for sure! The pool is nice and warm, I read a previous review that said the kids were shivering? That pool is literally like 90 degrees. I get in it each time with my daughter for the 15 minutes of open water time before and after her lesson. So I'm honestly not sure which pool they were talking about. lol I'm always cold, so I would be the first to say if that pool was cold. The lessons are super efficient- they don't waste time playing games or blowing bubbles. They incorporate fun into real lessons and really make sure the kids are getting something from the lesson. We had to reschedule one lesson and Ms. Natalie had jury duty for one, so our girl had her lesson with Ms. Daisy and Ms. Crystal for these ones, and they were just as amazing as Natalie. Our daughter took to them right away and learned a bunch. To wrap this up, I honestly thought that at the end of the 8 lessons, our daughter would only be to the point where she was more comfortable having water on her face, but (with a little help) this girl is floating, kicking, reaching for things under the water, holding her breath better...I'm really pleased with the progression she's had in just a short amount of time and can't recommend this school enough. The swim school is a down to earth community type swimming club where I had my 15 year old (now 16) daughter join. The coaches are tough and keep the kids up to par leading up to competitive swim meets. While the team isn't in the A swim time category, they work hard and are trained to compete well and the kids' time regularly improve. The number of kids is not too much that individual attention suffers to that's another plus. The owners sure care for the kids and their performance. We have been going to this place for 2 years with my kids and I've recommended it to numerous other moms but Their rain policy needs to be adjusted. If you have little kids I wouldn't schedule any classes in the winter. They say that they are rain or shine because their pool is 89 degrees.. which is fine. However their bathroom has no table to change kids and it also not heated. They have a propane heater in the sitting area but it's never in working order. They have good teachers and I do think they have a good thing but they need a remodel of their over all facilities if they are going to continue with this rain policy. The way they teach is much better than some other places in the South Bay .. so I recommend but beware in the winter! read more

We just purchased our second set of private lessons for both of our children. The first time was alright - scheduling wasn't easy but we went through the nine lessons by dragging them out too long which affected the impact of the lesson on our young kids. They need the lessons reasonably close together. Now that we just paid for our second round of private lessons for both boys, we are experiencing great difficulty in booking lessons. It's as if they over sell their packages and then the customer is screwed when it comes to booking them. This is very frustrating. Their website flat-out says that they will work around your schedule. For the record, we are very flexible. Lastly, this is not a state-of-the-art facility or anything. The pool and facility desperately need a facelift especially compared to their one competitor which we'll likely be moving to once this package is completed. UPDATE: The customer is disposable to this company and the people employed by them. We canceled our package and then they have the audacity to not refund all of the funds saying that we didn't give 48 hours notice. My credit card company and attorney have proof in recorded voicemails from them and our responses that this is not the case. Because of being treated so poorly, I will go to fight over $70.00 and am only sharing this to spare you the torture. read more

Group and private lessons are available. Costs are $149 for 9 group sessions and $189 for 9 private sessions. Because we arranged private lessons on day/time availability, we worked with a few different instructors. My daughter's favorites were Kristina, Nichole, and Dominique. All of the instructors follow the same curriculum. Only variance is their personalities. I feel so bad for the staff that had to deal with me 20+ years ago. My parents started me as young as you can apply for classes and I hated coming until i was able to join the swim team; thank goodness the teachers had so much patience! When my Grandma used to take me, I especially tried to act out being sick, sleeping hahaha. Many time outs and pouts were dealt with here. To my horror/embarrassment, a coworker recognized my new hire name last year and even tho I have no recollection of who she is; she remembers me plenty. Yep, she was one of my swim instructors. I kept apologizing because even tho I was really young, I remember how warui I was. Anyways, do check this place out for your children. I enrolled my two kids for four 15 minute sessions, as it was what they recommended for beginners. I really enjoyed the lessons provided by Carissa, Chris and Klara. They were wonderful with my kids. Since they did well with the first four lessons I paid for them to get another four. Unfortunately Klara left this location and I had to book with whoever is available. Scheduling can be difficult since they book up rather quickly. I was very disappointed with the instructor Dom. As she was not as friendly as the other members. Her way of teaching beginners is too harsh. Both my kids were swallowing more water than ever. She held them under much longer and was too busy chatting with other staff members than paying attention to her scheduled client, taking away time that I paid for them to learn. And what drew the last straw was when she strapped my child's arms in a vest and then told her she can't use her legs either. I have recorded video of this scene. And because she started using her legs. The video shows this instructor pull her down by her legs and telling her "don't use you legs". That's when I got up to question this. First of all she is just barely learning! How are you going to tell a child she can't use her arms and legs and then get upset because she can't do this method of your teaching!?! I made sure the remaining lessons will NOT be with her and I won't be returning for continued lessons. read more

I'm going to keep this simple and short. My daughter loves to be in the swimming pool. She was taking swimming lessons at YMCA before this school and had a fantastic experience but we had to move. Took her here and it was such a traumatizing experience for her she would fight and scream at the sight of her bathing suit. She would not even let us take her out of her car seat. (She was 2.5 years old when she was attending this school last year) The staff is UNFRIENDLY, they are not on time, and it was an older facility. We only did 2 sessions even though we prepaid for a month. They teachers did not look happy, they were not empathetic to my daughter who was terrified. They dunked her head in while she was screaming causing her to take in water and further screaming and crying. I have a picture and videos. The owner called me and apologized and basically wanted to give me an additional 2 lessons. I never took the offer because my daughter didn't even want to put a bathing suit on. I love this swim school. My children (ages 5, 3, and 1) have learned water safety, proper technique and basic skills for swimming. The teachers there are so good and patient. They also get 5 stars esp..Samantha, Carissa, Daisy, Sara, Josh, and Tania. They have been great with my kids. My children have learned so much from them. Each teacher focuses on your child and gives you feedback on what your child needs to work on for the next lesson. My kids are actually learning to swim! It's really great to witness. From the outside, you wouldn't expect a whole lot. The shared parking lot isn't - and if you park there? You'll be instantly shooed away. Go park on the street. It's okay - and go on in. That's where the school is anyway, and everything changes once you hit the door. It's a BIG pool, heated to a very comfortable temperature and no deeper than 5', reducing to 3' where they teach the little kids. And they are VERY good at teaching little kids. There are also indoor showers that you can adjust the temperature (hot & cold), dressing areas, all the basic comforts you'd want for teaching swimming...and then a very savvy bunch of people who have just the right toy, just the right approach and just the right amount of time to get the task completed. My son had his first lesson with them last Sunday and we'll be back as long as the weather holds up. He had a GREAT time. And as far as the cost? BARGAIN. You'll love them too. read more

Pros: The outdoor pool is cute and I love that they have a canopy to shade half of it so parents and kids aren't in direct sun for whole lesson! My daughter has taken about a dozen lessons here and I love her teacher Carissa - she's very focused and makes sure my daughter has mastered one technique before advancing to the next. All the teachers seem great. Jackie was also super friendly and helpful on the phone; she helped me schedule our lessons and walked us through how to check in and get ready before each lesson. Cons: I took one star off for the locker room floor. It is beyond disgusting and needs to be replaced. There are tiny tiles with mildew and grime in all the grout lines, plus dirty water and hair floating on top. My daughter wears flip flops but I hate going in there. I'd give this place six stars if the floor and soap dispenser were replaced/fixed! Bigger tiles or concrete flooring with proper drainage. read more

A couple of the instructors are quite good and they have certainly progressed my child. But please demo and start over. This place needs a complete renovation, paint, bathrooms. I am paying top dollar for classes and the physical space looks like I am in a third world country. Two mom's recommended this place to me because the instruction is good, but they both told me just walk in and walk out and don't look at or touch anything. We recently moved here and the place we used to go to was half the price and exponentially nicer. The cancellation policy is ludicrous. Basically once you book a class or buy a package you are stuck with it and must use it within 2 or 3 months even though the instructors you want are not available during that time frame. Any gym or club membership I have allows me to cancel classes with 24 or 48 hours notice without penalty. No such luck here so you better be ready to book a class three weeks out and hope your plans don't change or your kid doesn't get sick. read more

We have been coming to Lucky Duck for 3+ years since our kids were first learning how to swim. The instructors and staff are knowledgeable, friendly and very accommodating. My daughter hated the water when she first got in at age 3 but with the proper encouragement, she soon loved to swim and hated getting out of the pool. They both love coming to LDSS and we have always found everything to be clean & functional. Sure, they don't have their own parking lot and the dressing rooms are on the older side. However, we tried another swimming facility in the South Bay that had all those accoutrements (indoors, nice dressing rooms, etc.) and we were treated HORRIBLY there. It's all about the customer service and LDSS makes you feel like a part of their family. They say, "Welcome to Lucky Duck!" and they mean it! read more

***BUYER BEWARE*** it seems like this place just wants your money. The instructors have been great; the customer service, not so much! I had my child enrolled here with her cousin for semi-private lessons, which is basically the same as having 2 toddler courses [total 30min] with 2 toddlers in it. One of the toddlers was having asthma issues and could not go to class because she could not hold her breath. I tried to reschedule that child's remaining 3 classes and 1 class for my child. The incompetent at the counter said everything was fine and that the account would be credited and all we had to do was reschedule. I show up the next day for classes and I get told that my [non-sick] child is no longer enrolled in any classes and cannot swim because the other toddler is not present. Keep in mind, our semi-private class is 30mins with 2 toddlers [regular toddler classes are 15mins each]. But because we had semi-private classes both toddlers needed to be present, which is frankly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. The girl at the front desk was incredibly rude and the idiot I spoke to yesterday was there telling her that they attempted to call us, which they had not. Everyone checked their call logs. I can overlook a lot of things at this facility, but I draw the line at incompetence. My child was on the verge of tears when I told her she couldn't swim there anymore. Why pay $800 per child for semi-private lessons when they stipulate all parties must be there regardless of medical events, despite the duration being the exact same as regular toddler classes, and they were not willing to work with us given the circumstances. On top of that, customer service is horrible and there are much better places to go for swimming lessons. This place used to be great a few years ago, which is the only reason we came back. Go somewhere else... this place isn't worth the money or the aggravation. read more

Group classes can have up to 14 kids plus parents. They only use half the pool and allow private lessons to run in parallel in the same small area. This makes the pool area crowded and unsafe. Though they claim the pool is heated, most kids are still shivering half way through class Please also note the registration fees are additional and that there is a no refund policy.
