South Bay is probably in my top 5 Equinox locations I have visited. Large location with a roof top pool. Relatively clean for the most part but from pictures I have seen from the other reviews, some of the weights are a little banged up. I am okay with this as long as it doesn't fall apart on me and the gym is kept clean, particularly the showers. I believe the premium we are paying for the gym is particularly for the cleanliness which after being at 24 hour fitness and la fitness, I understand how disgusting those places can be. Parking - Large parking lot - in the morning parking was pretty easy to park but I am sure this locations can get packed during the afternoon/night time. read more

Paying for premium gym experience, getting Planet Fitness experience instead. Most of the locations are so over-crowded that you will need to look for your 4th, 5th or 6th choice piece of equipment. That would be ok if I wasn't paying $340/month. You will also be required to wait on the equipment you want to use so that people who sit on the equipment and look at their phones will not be disturbed. Total poser gym. When you complain about the over-crowding and inability to use equipment, the response is basically "well, that's too bad for you." Nothing will be done and they will just keep selling as many memberships as possible. Do not believe anything that they tell you when you sign up. You will quickly see that little of it is true. read more

Some days are better than others. Today at the Equinox South Bay was one of those. I contacted Austin yesterday after 6pm for training ideas. Service requested and answered by Austin and the Equinox front desk. My son and grandson joined for the introductory walkthrough. He answered questions about exercise, diet and nutrition. I'm looking pretty good today setting this up. I purchased a 6 pack today for strength training and booked Monday. The front desk was knowledgeable and accommodating and helped me purchase my strength training classes. read more

This is my home away from home. Im a morning gym person and I cant be more happy with this equinox. sure its not the most updated, or the newest location but the gym crowd here is quality people and everyone is just on their grind i love to see it. The classes are quality as well. I have classpass to switch things up but cycling, mat pilates, sound bath, barre, yoga and stretch classes? all amazing. I love coming here every day for my gym sesh. wow this location, once notorious for its outdated lockers where you used to have to bring your own locks, has FINALLY gotten an upgrade with integrated locks!! it is my favorite eqx location of the ones within an under-10-mile radius. the biggest one of the bunch, it is the only one with a dry sauna that doesn't require a higher-tier membership. a regular regional access or single-location membership suffices. it also has a great outdoor pool on the upper deck. it's much bigger than the one in mdr or culver. it's clean. also, free unltd parking in a big lot !!! should be a given but in LA it is not. currently the only other reasonably close-ish location that has a leg up on this one in any way is santa monica with its PR run lab, but south bay is superior to the other pleb-tiered (as pleb as one can get w equinox) locations in every way. deducting a star for its insane prices and the products. wish they'd stuck with kiel's. got a letter in the mail saying they're going to increase the cost of my membership by $17/mo this month. i think it's time to cancel soon... there are better luxe gyms out there at half or less than half the price. read more

*Update - The General Manager told me that members should be allowed to work in with Personal Trainers and that Personal Trainers are told to avoid using popular equipment during busy times. I asked Rico if I could work in on the squat rack while he was doing a circuit of 4 exercises where 3 exercises were off of the squat rack. He told me no and threatened me saying that he knew I was the one who complained about him and he "DOESN'T CARE WHAT MANAGEMENT SAYS". For being 65 years old you would think he'd be more respectful of people and the rules of the place he works at. I'm not sure if there are different rules at the other gyms he trains people at, but I would expect he would follow Equinox's rules. **Update - Today I asked again to work in Rico on the squat rack and he again said no. He said he had 2 back to back clients where he was going to use the squat rack and I couldn't use it. He told me that the Equinox VP says he doesn't have to let anyone work in with him. He then threatened to get my membership revoked today and proceeded to call me childish for asking to work in. Rico proceeded to hog the platform squat rack for over an hour even though he was done using it with his 1st client so I couldn't squat on it. I don't understand why he's the ONLY Personal Trainer I've had threaten me multiple times and not let other paying members use equipment during busy times. I'm having a love/hate relationship with equinox...I'm a member since 2012 and regular going 6 times per week....and get no recognition... For many years was paying under "family and friends " benefits...now they were audited and having this new rule...ONLY "immediate family members living in the same household "...ridiculous! And when I asked for some discount for being a loyal member for so long... all they say is NO and nobody can do anything.... Now I'm paying premium price....got $25 discounted ...should I be happy about it? However I'm grateful for all those years I got discounted. I still think it's worth because I love some instructors and the classes are great! Also like the weight floor, the cleaning crew are great! Some employers are not that great, but what we can do.... Also...when everything and everywhere is expensive.... people can afford more some how equinox...so it's lowering the level of members....not nice! It's NOT a fancy gym, it's well kept , has a lot of amenities...BUT needs a lot of maintenance and upgrades.... I will be a member until I move out of the city...because it's working for me also we got nice community there! read more

**Update** The management team canceled my membership and refunded me for the month of November. Honestly? Sometimes people don't really care about "the safety of others." The workers are rude, the management team have zero understanding of safety, and overall no one wanted to take any accountability for what happened. Sometimes, all we want is a sincere apology and unfortunately I didn't get that. It sounded passive aggressive, hypocritical, and condescending. No one from corporate followed up with me, there was no sense of urgency, and yet again a POC was brushed under the rug and they downplayed the situation. It doesn't matter how "exclusive" or "niche" this gym is. There are other better options you can spend your money on. If you want a one year contract with a place that only caters to a certain demographic and don't necessarily fit the mold of their ideal members, please go somewhere else. read more

This used to be the best part about starting my day but the trainers they recently hired have been awful to deal with. Rico Orozco takes up multiple equipment and space to do circuits with his clients and he doesn't let any other members work in to use the equipment even when he's not using it. Several members have complained so hopefully Equinox will fix this problem. I'm seriously considering going back to 24 Hour Fitness, where the trainers are at least respectful. Rico is a 65 year old male who is pretty small so avoid him at all costs. read more

If I could put 0 starts I would. I just had a surgery because of walking barefoot in the lockers room and got infected with a virus. And no, I don't walk barefoot anywhere except than here. This is the most low class equinox I've ever been. And I've been in tons of equinox all around the country. The people, the amenities and the whole environment just makes me think in a 24 hours gym or an LA fitness. I don't know if this is a franchise or the management is really bad. Good, not great. For the price, there should be a lot more here. The good is that the other members are generally not the same goofballs that you will encounter at LA fitness or 24 hour fitness or any of the other budget gyms. The place is clean, and the equipment is kept in good condition. The negative aspects are that there is a lot of wasted floor space where they could have other machines. You could easily fit at least 10 to 15 more weight machines without it feeling cramped in here at all. They are missing some very basic weight machines that even the lower end gyms have. Also, the sauna is extremely small, and does not run quite as hot as other saunas in other gyms. Also, places like Afterburn fitness in Manhattan Beach have a cold plunge and a much bigger boxing/kickboxing room for half the price. If you can afford it and the price doesn't faze you, this place is fine. But for the price they should definitely have some more equipment. Just a lot of wasted space. read more

Gyms in the area have turned into streaming services. I can't afford to pay for a yoga studio membership, a boxing gym membership, and a CrossFit membership. But I like doing all of those things so I came back to a gym that offers it all. Sort of like cable. Pros: The instructors are incredible. There's only been 1 or 2 classes I haven't enjoyed but that was a personal preference. Sauna, steam room, rooftop workout area, rooftop pool. I've always had clean towels available, the locker rooms have been immaculate and the staff who keep them that way are kind and friendly. I've only had positive interactions with the staff here. Everyone has been pleasant and helpful. Cons: Showers are outdated and the products are HORRIBLE. Equipment hogs everywhere. I wish they enforced their own rule of no phones on the machines. Open up the Pilates machines for rental / sign up without needing to pay for a lesson. In my 18 months, I've seen someone in there ONCE. Pretty limited weekend hours. I'd expect them to be open later than 7. Overall, I'm 50/50 on keeping my membership. I've been seeing positive feedback on other local gyms and might check them out. read more

Post AND survey was knowledge by owner (about 3 weeks ago) and their teams CC'd by their owner regarding this issue yet it still persists yet a solution has not been made other than " we value our customers feedback and take is seriously" blah blah blah deescalation excuse. Out here playing in peoples faces and taking their money no issue but can't clean nothing! ---------------------------------------------------- For a"Luxury" gym ... Not sure what's up with the cleaning standards at this location. ESPECIALLY for the price members pay!!! This gym can quite affordably clean and fix issues. Having since restarted the gym towards end of January these mold spots have been there ... and has clearly no attempt has been made to clean them (literally all the showers in the men's locker room). I do understand moisture propagates mold growth. However, it is the facilities responsibility to clean with the appropriate methods for obvious health reasons. In addition, it is beyond me that refilling the shampoo, conditioner, face wash and body wash that has OBVIOUS bacterial growth and biofilm, that these bottles aren't being replaced. This facility and management should be ashamed to allow this to be happening. Cleaning standards should be revamped bc watering down showers is not enough!!! read more

I belonged to the very expensive Equinox for one year. The staff was lovely, the gym was clean and I enjoyed the cold towel after my workout. I will be leaving at the end of this year after they raised their already high rates almost $20. I was told in a letter from corporate that this increase was so Equinox could pay "livable wages" for their staff. This is a lie. What I found out after conducting research was that they are raising their rates to cover the $32 million class action lawsuit. The lawsuit states they made their trainers and staff work off the clock which is of course against California Employment law. Both my husband and I tried to speak with corporate and received no reply. Letters, phone calls and stopping by the desk, but I guess they don't care about losing customers. Now, I am just one hard working citizen and maybe you don't care. If you want to help pay for their punishment of illegal business practices join but if not I recommend you take your business elsewhere. Keep in mind they will continue to raise rates. read more

First off Im off to Boston community on business. Which is why this review is a MUST. Met Reese from Equinox, she signed me up with the membership that has all the these cool perks. I texted Reese late Wednesday night, I didn't want to be charged for any fees while I'm out of town. Reese, not only responded, kept her word. Followed through and reassured me with a follow up stating that she personal did my cancelation process. That I would receive a link by her manager by EOD. See this is why I'll be back, and will be looking for Reese. This client guest service is way above my expectations. And to top it off, my daughter has a trainer here who's just as caring as ever. This is what we want community. Give Equinox a call see what deals they have and try them out. Trust when you say NO. They understand, and wont push the issue. This location does not have locks on their lockers, so you need to buy a combination lock to bring with you. Every other equinox around the US I've been to within the last several years has built-in locks, so I was very surprised to see this. After I walked into the locker room, I attempted to buy a lock from the front desk. They told me to buy one from the shop, and the shop told me that they didn't have any but I could buy one from the front desk. The front desk also did not have any for sale. There's also no other store in the immediate area that sells combination locks. It's an unsettling feeling to leave your belongings unlocked while working out. On top of this, they've just increased the memberships fees (again!) by $17/mo due to making club improvements.... They do get a star because this is the only equinox I've been to where the conditioner is not mixed into the face wash in the locker room. read more

Brennen was the person who has been assisting me with my account reactivation and reorientation of the class schedules. Back in 2021,there were not many classes and now that everything is back to normalcy,main studio is always busy starting at 0545. They also have boxing and kickboxing,precision run,and other high intensity work outs. Everything that I am looking for! The machines are ultra clean and well-maintained. Playground and pool at the rooftop! Clean and smell-clean locker room,shower and saunas. Their housekeeping are working so hard to maintain everything. The Earth Bar juice stop is an added bonus! I've been a "corporate all access member" since 2018 and I love it. I live full time in NYC and visit Cali once a month (family) for anywhere between 5-8 days. And I also occasionally visit Houston (dad lives there) a few times a year too. It's great to be able to keep to a gym routine regardless of where I am. I've been out of the gym for about a year due to the pandemic... I am sooo glad to be back in the gym, it's definitely necessary for my mental health. I must say that Equinox has done an amazing job keeping everything clean. It's nonstop cleaning and wiping down equipment throughout my entire workout. I feel like it's cleaner here than any grocery store or anywhere else I've been since the pandemic. The plus side is there's a smaller crowd at the gym so it feels like I have it all to myself!! As of 3/22: Bathrooms are open but showers are closed. Sauna is also closed. Lockers are unavailable but I guess you can still go inside to change though they blocked everything. I can't wait until more classes open (so far I've done cycling and yoga... 6 spots to a class) and all the amenities return (I miss those eucalyptus towels!!) read more

We finally joined and ready to start adulting at a real fitness center that meets both me and husband's needs. When we lived in DTLA we enjoyed the perk of high-rise living with 24 hours state of the art fitness center in our building. But when we moved to South Bay the gym options were not what we were accustomed to. We're not bougie or anything we thoroughly enjoyed our Planet Fitness membership when it was the only thing that was decent back in our previous neighborhood a decade ago. I tried two different gyms here in South Bay and my husband has free access to his job's fitness center complete with spin classes, yoga, personal training blah blah blah. The gyms I tried were not the right fit because one facility felt stifling and too small. The second was bad because it stank to high heaven and I am pretty sure the girls with the see-thru leggings without even performing squats knew they looked like they were posing for lewd magazines with their "workouts". Men peacocked. Women sashayed. I threw up a little. But at Equinox I immediately feel the atmosphere grabbing me all the way out in the parking lot. Before I even step into the building I am feeling empowered, excited, motivated, inspired. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The facility is so clean. Ladies restroom? Clean. Lockers? Clean. Not a nary stray hair or debris in site. Workout towels are provided. There's PLENTY cardio machines. Plenty group classes. The pool is heated and I think it might be salt water with a touch of chlorine to keep it all sanitary. There's even a rooftop "playground " to enjoy fresh air while working out. Group classes are held at the playground as well. There's a spa, retail shop, and smoothie bar. If you're a parent they also have a childcare center. For the first time in years, I'm excited to get dressed for the gym. My body is a work in progress and Equinox is a key component to my transformation read more

I expected a high-end, upscale gym with great equipment, strong encouragement and supportive staff. It was lackluster at best. The facilities were not dissimilar to a more upscale 24 hour fitness. The locker room was vile, I never used it. The spa looked dark and creepy, not upscale at all. The pool area was small and looked like an afterthought and the outdoor area was just there, no real direction. Classes offered were OK, but never at a time that I could use. Trainers were ok, not spectacular. I was genuinely looking for a workout and diet plan to lose weight and the trainer seemed to have forgotten about it by the 3rd session. The gift shop was always a mess and the employee working it always seemed disinterested and unfriendly. I expected a high-end experience and I essentially got a glossy Planet Fitness. I stuck for a year, then bounced. Parking was good. Entry was terrible: either sit in traffic for an extra 1/2 hour on Rosecrans or fight through Costco parking traffic. read more

It's worth every penny to have a safe and clean environment to workout and occasionally shower at... the sauna, steam room, showers are amazingly well kept. I was a member of Equinox for almost two years until I was no longer able to pay for the membership. After a few price increases during that time, I made the difficult decision to try out other gyms in the area that are sub-$$$. Having said that, you do get quite a bit for the money. If I could afford it, I would definitely return. Equinox doesn't call itself a gym, but rather a "club". Every time I walked into the gym, I was always greeted with Equinox employees with a big smile on their faces. \ 80% of my time spent at Equinox was either in spinning or HIIT-like classes. Some classes, especially those in the main studio, were packed to the max, and at times, I felt it wasn't very safe because someone could be doing mountain climbers and kick you in the face. For some other classes that require a reservation, you literally need to wake up at 6 am the day before and reserve a spot on the Equinox app. It was like Black Friday every Friday for a Saturday morning spin class. Regardless of the capacity constraints for the classes, all of the instructors were really good. All were personable and would challenge you for your own benefit. Music selections were always spot-on, especially the spin class on Saturday mornings. About 20% of my time at Equinox, I would use the open gym area. I don't ever recall having to wait for equipment. In addition, members knew gym etiquette quite well so rarely would you see someone dropping weights to draw attention and folks knew to wipe down their nasty sweat from equipment. I suppose this gym or "club" attracted a certain type of customer. The lockers and shower areas were consistently clean and well-stocked with Kiehl's shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotions (body and facial). Although impressive, please consider what you pay every month. One minor complaint about the shower area I have is in regards to the steam room. On occasion, I would find paper-based news documents (these are provided by the gym near the entrance) left in the steam room. Because of the moisture, those pieces of paper would naturally tear apart and was simply unappealing to see that left around. Also, some folks would try to trigger the steam mechanism by pouring cups of cold water onto a sensor. This is fine, but then they would leave the cups in the steam room. Again, unappealing given what you pay to use this gym. In sum, I really enjoyed my time at Equinox, and maybe I'll join again once I get a few raises at work. For now, I'll be checking out other gyms in the area. read more

Living in the South Bay area I have pretty much tried many different gyms for the past 10 years. It's been challenging finding THE perfect gym where I can just lift weights and leave. I thought long and hard about joining Equinox. It's so hard not to get influenced from so many preconceptions and the thought of dishing out $165 a month just seemed so frivolous. Honestly I don't care about their excellent classes or the spa. I just want to lift. I want to built that booty. I joined Equinox 3 months ago and I'm not turning back. - 3 squat racks (I never had to wait) - top of the line equipment (and plenty) - there are never any missing dumbbells - everyone always puts the weights back (and courteous) - CLEAN - Serious people only (no loitering or gawking) - $165 comes down to $5 a day *I haven't seen one person take any selfies. To think of all those times at "other" gyms where I have gone home after waiting for a squat rack for 30 mins. Monthly payments of $25 kept me chained to useless, dirty gyms that didn't bring any value to my life. I'd rather pay $165 a month, get a complete workout 4-5 times a week then watch $25 every month down the drain (accumulated over years). The choice is pretty clear to me and I'm pretty content. read more

I am so glad I signed up! Not only are you paying a certain amount to simply workout, but the classes that are offered are similar to private classes and the trainers are always around to help. Staff and maintenance are the sweetest and respectable service. Be kind, nice, cordial and respectful to the staff. I started having conversations with some of them and they have been there for any issue as well having someone to listen to you when you need to vent. When the gym is "busy", I write that in that manner because it gets busy but you always have access to equipments, classes or trainers. The amenities are what always have me coming back and the pool is the cherry on top. Another note, I currently take Pilates with Hana! She is the best! Funny, helpful, knowledgeable and strong! Equinox breeds snobbery, and mine is that this club is just A-ok. I have been to multiple equinox in Southern California as well as over a half dozen in New York City, and this one is fine. The parking is in a big open lot, for some reason they don't allow parking in the underground structure. So hopefully you don't have anything in your car that's going to melt! There are many many stairs here, which seems to be typical of most equinox. The entry area is large and spacious but there is very little in the way of a comfortable seating zone at like one in fines in many East Coast Equinox. There is a nice seating area by the juice bar. The juice bar itsself does not have a lot of choices, but for what they have it is reasonably priced in comparison to some other juice type entities in SoCal. My biggest gripe is about the size of the yoga and fitness rooms. The yoga room is small as is the group fitness room. Not small in comparison to other equinox but small in comparison to what kind of space one could really have available in this facility that they built from scratch. Women's locker room is also laid out in a non-ideal way. It's not horrible it's just not great and again the ethos regarding make-up stations seems to be "OK this makeup space with good lighting? you don't need it" LOL. It's definitely not as nice of a club as the Westwood club and it pales in comparison to many of the New York clubs like Highline. But it's OK. I'm such a fan of Equinox, especially this one in particular is great for many reasons. The cleanliness at this Equinox has been unmatched compared to the one in DTLA. When I mean cleanliness I mean on the floor there aren't any wet wipes, weights are re-racked, and I've seen the most people wipe down their it's always fully stocked with towels There's a lot of natural lighting in here to really see your form in the mirror. Very rarely are any of the machines broken here and if they are, notifying a front desk person or a trainer would get it fixed within the same week. The guests who come here have consistently been nice. The guests in Irvine in my opinion have been pretty rude to other guests and the staff (more coming on the Equinox in Irvine). This one has an outside area upstairs called the Playground. Their studio is spacious to accommodate a great amount of people for their group classes -- the stronger and best butt ever have been my favorite! If you've never been to Equinox in general, it's a luxury gym. While it's quite an expensive drop ($220ish if you're committing to one gym and $330 if you want access to any equinox [doesn't give access to the one in Madison Square Garden in NYC]), I find it to be worth it. I get to use any machine I want to, I pay for separate saunas and steam rooms so I can sit naked (haha), and showers have an immaculate pressure with shampoo, conditioner, & body wash included. I have peace of mind knowing no one will come up to me and hit on me, and I know I'll be having a quality workout. Equinox's also have training available me but all trainers are not the same. It's helpful to look at how trainers are training their current clients and see if that's the type of workout and rifle you're into (i had one & loved her but she was in the DTLA location). I like to vlog myself to see my form and keep myself accountable of how heavy I'm going with each weight and no guest or trainer has said anything which I love. Their comments have always been all love! All equinoxes have the Earthbar where you can buy smoothies, bowls, protein drinks and bars, and pre workout but it is pretty expensive. A normal Celsius drink is about $2.5 at Target or your nearest gas station but here's its ~$4.50. Overall I love my experience at equinox. read more

To be honest, the experience at the gym overall was a pleasant one. The ambience, the cleanliness, the staff were all up to par. I have to say though, please be warned about the quality of the clientele these gyms admit. The people seem to have an inability to actually use the gym for it's designated purpose. If you are going to the gym to socialize, thirst trap, follow pervertedly, please take up a new hobby elsewhere. read more
