Dr. Jacob delivered my second child in 2021. She is very dedicated to her practice and has very specific ways of doing things. We chose her as our ob since she's known as being less interventionalist than others in the area, but she at times was also not willing to consider some options that we wanted to explore. Appointments with her were very short, though if I had questions, she was willing to chat a little more. She let me go to 42 weeks even though I was "geriatric," which, from what I hear from others in the area, is incredibly unusual. We had wanted to explore some labor inducing methods, like stripping the membranes, which we had done with our first child. However, she said she wouldn't do it since it doesn't work. Of course, this is where a doctor's experience comes into play, but it was disappointing since we had had this option with our previous doctor. Actual labor induction was an experience - as it often is - but she certainly stepped in when the timing was right. I felt like I was in good hands even when things got very tough. read more

After my first pregnancy ended in a C-section, I switched to Dr. Jacob for my second and third pregnancies and deliveries, where I had two successful VBACs. It was one of the best decisions I made! She is a compassionate and dedicated physician who truly cares about her patients. I drive 40 minutes to Dr. Jacob's office and often have to wait a long time in the waiting room but she is totally worth it! This Dr would have had me abort my perfectly healthy kid bc there was some question of Downs. I know everyone loves her, but her bedside manner was lacking, not to mention she didn't even disclose testing beforehand. I often had to sit and wait hours to be seen. If I hadn't gotten in before 8 weeks I may have lost my daughter bc my progesterone was so low. I recommend sticking w your Manhattan doctors. I went back to Dr Adler and was much happier. read more

I switched to Dr. Jacob about 6 & 1/2 months into my pregnancy because I was not happy with North Shore OB/GYN, after my first birth nor when I switch to Great Neck OBGYN. I was not satisfied with them either after three visits. Based on my birth plan/wishes, my doula had recommended Dr. Jacob. At this point, I was accepting of the fact that I was not going to find my perfect OB/GYN, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. Well, despite some reviews stating that Dr. Jacob does not spend much time with her patients and she might not have the greatest bedside manner, I didn't go in expecting much. And let me tell you, she turned out to be more than I ever expected. She spent a lot of time with me my first visit. She listened to my concerns and my wants. Every visit afterward, she was very polite. Sure, she is busy, but how much time does one expect to spend on a weekly or bi-weekly visit? I am sure if you needed more time to speak with her, she would make it. As for the wait in the waiting room, it was not nearly as bad as some people made it seem. Maybe coming from North Shore OB/GYN, the wait seemed like a breeze. But that should not be a deciding factor. You know how the saying goes, good things are worth the wait. Anyhow, let's fast-forward to what matters the most... Labor and delivery... Although she suggested inducing me because I was a bit over my due date, and which case due dates are not always accurate as we know, I declined. Turns out I went a few days over my due date and she respected my wishes even though she warned me of possible risks because I had gestational diabetes. I followed her advice to continue with baby monitoring, and when I went into labor, she did everything to ensure I have the delivery that I wanted. In other words, didn't push to induce, or give me Pitocin, because I didn't want it, and as far as the C-section is concerned, she would never refer that unless it was an emergency. Many people don't realize how many C-sections are given by OB/GYN's for no reason. The nurses at the hospital really respect Dr. Jacob for this. She really knows what she's doing. That might sound funny considering that she is a doctor, but let's face it, not every doctor does what is in their patient's best interest. What a difference from my first child birth experience compared to this one. I am so glad I found her, even at the last minute. There may have been times that I was skeptical, because of past experiences, but in the end, when it really counted, she was amazing. She will do her best to make sure she is there at every birth as well. Good luck in your search. I know what it's like to not feel comfortable with an OB/GYN, especially during pregnancy. Doctor was very inpatient, almost screamed at me because I couldn't push the baby out. I ended up having a c section. I had a very bad experience with Dr. Jessica Jacob during my delivery. I was induced and after a few hours in Labor, the baby's heart rate started dropping. The medicine was discontinued, the baby's heart rate stabilized, and I was told that Dr. Jacob was coming to evaluate the situation. Upon entering the L&D room, Dr. Jacob started forcing me into a c-section by screaming at me: "Brain Damage!!! IQ goes down!!! You are an Idiot!!!" I was really intimidated and could not ask her about the baby's heart rate, other options, ... I only said: "Why are you screaming at me?" After returning home, I requested my hospital records. I was shocked to see the report signed by Dr. Jacob that stated that after the induction was stopped, the baby's heart rate became "a beautiful tracing". I also found out from my c-section records that my c-section was "non-emergent", my placenta was fine, and the cord's ph was above 7.2 (border line) or even above 7.25 (recommended level). It is believed that baby does not get enough oxygen if ph is below 7.2 and c-section is recommended for ph lower than 7.2. It became clear that there was no emergency when Dr. Jacob was screaming at me. I understand that Dr. Jacob came to my L&D room late at night and she was tired, but it does not give her the right to abuse me. If c-section was Dr. Jacob's recommendation, she was not supposed to scream at me and coerce me into a c-section. Therefore, I am no longer Dr. Jacob's patient and cannot recommend her to anyone. . read more

I really wanted to have Dr Jacob as my ob because of all the good reviews, but I am used to state of the art facilities, attention to detail, and good bedside matter and this place was NOT it. I went in for a check up. The doctor literally took a phone call while staring at my vagina. They took blood and urine and no one called me with results. Being 100% positive they were negative, I figured I'd call back just to double check. Turns out I had a UTI which I would not have been informed of had I not called myself for results. The MA was going to call in an RX for antibiotics, OVER A WEEK LATER! I obviously insisted on repeating the urine at which point it was negative. Basically, I was going to get antibiotics "just in case". I deserve better. I don't think she has time for the amount of patients she has and that is why this happened. The office, although friendly, is very dated and gloomy with paper charts. Save yourself and go somewhere where they have time to care for you. read more

Dr. Jessica Jacob is by far the worst doctor I have encountered in my life. I have worked for doctors myself so I understand a lot of the issues and misunderstandings that can happen between a patient, a medical office/medical care providers -- and I still believe that the "care" that Dr. Jacob provides is poor. I have a history of early first trimester miscarriages (most recent ones under her watch) and the general feeling I got was that she didn't want to deal with me. Right from the start she didn't feel that my history was anything that required her attention, even though each time I got pregnant again I reminded her -- and it always seemed a surprise for her (doesn't she review patient history before coming into the exam room? For my most recent pregnancy, she absolutely refused to see me before 8 weeks, which I already know is too late to either do anything to prevent nor gain any vital information about my miscarriages. I begged her office to do a blood test to check my progesterone and let me make an appointment to see her. After they finally obliged, she had her receptionist call me back: She saw that my labs come back normal and then cancelled my appointment and rescheduled it for 8 weeks without ever confirming it with me. By the way, I ended up losing this pregnancy as well at 5 weeks, well before she would ever see me, and I have since taken my medical records and gone to another doctor who IS willing to see their patients. Look - I know she is a popular obstetrician and she has a lot of normal pregnant women to attend to. Her packed waiting room and astronomically long wait even with an appointment is proof that many women go to her and trust her with their pregnancy and delivery. But if you have any kind of high-risk or out of the norm obstetric history, I STRONGLY URGE you to look elsewhere. I lost 2 pregnancies while in her care and during no point in my visits (when she would actually agree to see me) did I ever feel she actually cared. Pregnancy is hard enough. Add onto that the fear of repeat miscarriage and a doctor who just doesn't give you any consideration and it's a recipe for heartache and disaster. Do yourself a favor and find an OB who makes time for you because you and your unborn child deserve better. read more

She has a huge following be prepared to wait ! Dr. Jacob was a referral from my High Risk Maternal fetal Medicine doctor dr. Victor Rosenberg who is the head of that division at LIJ. I was a high risk patient because of my past pregnancy history with Preeclampsia. I had a horrible experience with a midwife and mfm with my last pregnancy. I did not want to make the same mistake again with poor support. At first when I did research on Dr. Jacob I was a little taken back by some of the reviews I read. Honestly if you read the 1 negative review on this page it sounds like the patient was not getting what she wanted and would rather risk the health of her child than listen to the warnings of Dr. Jacob. I can tell you I did not witness any of this type of behavior from her. When I first met her in August of 2013 I was 9 weeks pregnant and told her my concerns and my desire to have a VBAC. Dr. Jacob does have a low c section rate and thus supported and was excited for this possibility. I went to see her and her wonderful staff every month. Her nurses are fantastic, approachable and friendly individuals. Some days it was crowded or standing room, but there is a reason for that she is great at what she does. I maybe waited once out of the 9 months over 40 min. There were some instances of emergencies during my pregnancy. One month my nose bleed horribly and I called her from my job, her office assistants made sure they got a hold of me at work to see how I was doing. After that incident I was then put on bed rest and watched closely right away. Each week I would go in to see her, however since I was on bed rest her staff knew I couldn't be sitting for to long ( due to a blood pressure spike in my body ) and I was able to go ahead of everyone and to do my quick visits. Again, every staff member was always busy working but they were super nice, respectful and wonderful. She did work with my MFM doctor figuring out plans and she would contact him weekly and everyone always had the paperwork they needed to treat me. I even had my own disability paperwork I needed for my job filled out, always done within a day and returned to me. This staff is on task, on par and some of the best I have seen. When I would see her in the room she was to the point, answered any questions. She never rushed me out. For people who said she is washed out. Seriously??? All I see here is an intellegent woman who loves what she does for a living. That takes commitment and work to deliver all her patients !! I know I couldn't work the shifts she puts in. She is well kept and looks highly presentable to me. When my pregnancy was in week 39 and progressing slowly there was some worry so I was checked in on more and finally learned that my amino fluids were a low 1. I was admitted to the hospital to be put on pitocin and given a foley balloon. Guess who was there ?? Dr. Jacob, I had seen her 10:30 am that day it was about 11 pm at night. I had a long and hard labor, she wanted me to have VBAC so badly but my body just was not ready. She broke my water and membranes, tried everything for me to get my VBAC. My Son's heart rate was suffering because the labor was long =8 hours, I was not on any painkillers. Finally I saw Dr. jacob and told her I didn't' want to feel like a failure by getting an epidural. She said "laura you have been through a lot, 8 hours of laboring your pregnancy is not a normal one.. if you need to please do it " so I did it.. I felt relief " I found out that my cervix was not past 4cm. Each time a new procedure was done, Dr. Jacob would give my body time to react. When my amino fluids hit a big zero, Jacob had placed fluid in my uterus to help out the dryness.. this did not work either. The baby just needed to come out, I knew a c section was going to happen. Dr. Jacob was going to give it another hour ( it being my cervix) but she ran back in and went laura " we need a healthy baby, if we keep on going you could have uterine rupture, your babies heart rate is dropping, we need to do a c section" So I understood and was relieved we tried but saw how bad things were. The section was done in an hour for such an involved surgery I was curious and was interested to listen in on the surgery as it was being performed. At the end of the time it was 6am, Dr. Jacob was with me from about 9pm thurs to 6pm Friday the next day. She has followed up with me in the hospital, talking kindly and recently followed up with me today to check in. I also had a doula with me, she worked very well with and supported the use of a doula! Seriously this Doctor is a Gem and if pregnancy was easy for me I would certainly get pregnant again to have another fantastic experience. Please, Please take the negative reviews as a grain of salt, more people will complain rather than say nice things. She takes pride in her work and it is the knowledge, care and time that she devotes that makes her an outstanding OBGYN. Jessica delivered all 3 of my children. During routine visits, she was always straightforward. She is non-alarmist, though honest and upfront about any concerns she might have. She also took the time to address any concerns that I had and followed up appropriately. It is notable that every person in the hospital- from admissions check-in staff members to the entire nursing staff in delivery as well as post-delivery in the nursery LOVE Dr. Jacob. They all talk about what a kind, caring person she is. The admissions person told me that she has never, in her many years working at the hospital, seen another doctor deliver one of Dr. Jacob's patients. However, they do notice that she delivers other doctor's patients if the other doctors can't make it in time. It is in the delivery room that Dr. Jacob really shines! My children all seem to have a dropped heart rate during the last hour or two of contractions, before birth. She did everything in her power to try to make sure that I delivered naturally all 3 times...and it worked! She remembered my prior deliveries and applied her knowledge of my body and my babies reactions to give me an experience that was smooth and uneventful. Wife was at risk for Zika because of travel, baby also turned out to be a breach presentation and Dr. Jacob performed an emergency c section at 36 weeks. Baby boy was 8lbs and perfect. Dr. Jacob is a very rare kind of doctor who puts her patient's needs in front of her own. I had a successful VBAC because of her patience. She was incredible during the whole delivery. I have complete confidence not just in her abilities but also in her medical decision making including what is best for the patient despite how it effects her. After switching medical coverage, I recently had to chose a new Gynecologist after spending 30 years with my former OB/Gyno. Needless to say, I was nervous, but made an appointment with Dr. Jacob. I had to wait a couple of weeks, but was glad I did. From the minute I walked into her office, I felt comfortable. It is evident that her staff enjoys working there. While sitting in the waiting room, I observed that that the front desk staff treated everyone nice and seemed to know each of the patients and their needs. When it was my turn, the Assistants in the back were all "on the ball", knowledgeable and pleasant. (I almost forgot it was my first visit there.) When my PAP test later revealed a problem, I was slightly distraught but compassionately spoken to when I returned to double-check the test. I am currently seeing a Specialist, who was recommended by Dr. Jacob. Even though I have since learned that my old Gynecologist now takes my new coverage, I will be staying with Dr. Jacob because of how "cared for" Dr. Jacob and her staff made me feel during my visits.
