Our son started at Faith Bible this past September as a high school freshman. We were a little…read moreapprehensive thinking maybe he might have a difficult time starting in high school when many of his schoolmates had likely been together since elementary and junior high school. Our concerns were unwarranted and I cannot say enough positive things about our experiences over the past several months. The staff at Faith are fabulous.The staff all go out of their way to create a positive learning environment that strives to teach our children to become responsible citizens. They push him academically but do so in a spiritual, caring and attentive manner. The class sizes are small and foster a positive learning environment. There truly is a "Faith Family" feeling to all of our interactions with the school, both in and out of the classroom. We couldn't feel more welcome or blessed. Our son has made many friends and most importantly he comes home happy each and every day. We raved so much about our experiences that our dear friends are moving their daughter from a different Christian private high school to Faith in 2020-21. If you are looking for a Christian school you should consider Faith; I have no reservations in fully recommending them.

The Maitripa community members are wonderful, inviting, and helpful people. The content of the public programs have proven very useful in social work within underserved communities. In other Buddhist communities, I have felt pushed and judged. I have felt nothing but comfort and acceptance at Maitripa. It is refuge in every sense of the word. I look forward to more involvement and participation at the College, and I encourage others who are curious to open their hearts and minds to all of the jewels Maitripa has to offer.

This college also draws talented individuals for events year after year, including HH The Dalai Lama just this past spring. Though it has a few kinks to smooth out as it grows, this college deserves a more accurate review: FACT CHECK: 1. Maitripa college is not so simply "un-accredited" as in another review. It is authorized through the state of Oregon to give Master's Degrees, and its involved in the multi-year process of moving toward full "regional" accreditation, (there is no such thing as "National") which will then allow students to apply for federal grants, federal student loans etc. They do offer very significant scholarships to assist students in the meantime. There is much value in this degree, and the multiple references to the college being "un-accredited" are somewhat misleading. If you are considering going to Maitripa for a Masters, then onward for another degree (Ph.d) or certification, as them if the Maitripa credits will transfer. Its highly likely they will. As stated on their website: "Maitripa Institute received legal authority in July 2008 from the State of Oregon to offer graduate degrees in Buddhist Studies. This approval means that Maitripa is now a College, and that its program courses are available for college credit. Maitripa is currently offering a Master of Arts degree in Buddhist Studies and a Masters of Divinity (MDiv) degree. This achievement is the first step towards regional accreditation." 2. The other warning that "these folks are missionaries" is not accurate from my experiences as a student over the last 3+ years, and surely this must have been based on a small sample audience that reviewer interacted with. Some people react differently to religious and spiritual teachers and teachings, and can often make things weird, with attempts to proselytize despite the fact that this tradition specifically instructs students against such behavior. Neither I, nor my friends have experienced a missionary vibe overall when taking classes or attending events at Maitripa. I have indeed experienced that type of environment of conversion before, but not so far at Maitripa. 3. Maitripa is a school based on Mahayana Buddhism: Mahayana philosophy, mediation, service, logic, and debate are the primary focus of the courses. They are not offering degrees in comparative religion, though some dialogue is always welcome in that area. Though "comparative thought" is certainly valued, is not the core focus of most classes, and those classes are not advertised as such, to my knowledge. However, the events have included teachers and professionals from diverse backgrounds, coming to share their expertise and opinions, and engage in constructive dialogue. These guests and teachers have included: neuroscientists, environmentalists, writers, psychologists and more... Maitripa's core is Mahayana Buddhism, but it is certainly open and engaged with the wider religious, scientific and academic communities. As for the online program, I believe it has been partially put on hold (I just checked the website), though I would confirm that directly with the college.

The curriculum they use is advanced, he can read and write in cursive and is taught in a wholesome, nurturing environment. One of my biggest shoutouts to 8th street is that every staff member knows every student; not something you'll find in other over populated schools. They charge for nearly everything and seem more concerned with image than student growth. Despite using "Christian" in the name, it is absolutely not God-centered. The title feels misleading and used to attract Christian families, but Christian values are not reflected in practice. Students who do not maintain a 4.0 are discouraged rather than supported. The school also claimed it would become accredited, which never happened.

Lady Blues, show your pride!…read more Yes, I am an alumnus of the great St. Mary's Academy (SMA)--the only all-women's college preparatory school on the West Coast--class of 2003. I think it's safe for us all to say that we have memories from our golden years, whether they be good or bad. Thankfully, 98.6 percent of my memories of good ol' SMA are very fond. From the spirituality of the Encounter retreat (ask me sometime!) to Ms. Gorman's STD slideshow (the cauliflower penis scarred us all) and falling off the Ark, those four years were great. I remember Sister Linda (the Prez of Student Affairs) would walk through crowded SMA dances, and separate girls from their dates who were dancing too provocatively, telling them to leave room for the Holy Spirit. And if you were caught again, you were taken to the cool-down room, where Mr. Hemmen (a religion teacher) would kindly lecture you. Obviously, *I* never made it that far. While SMA wasn't the school for everyone (i.e., the extremely boy crazy, and the ones whose parents forced them to go there), I thought it was the perfect place for me. It definitely fostered my growth as an intelligent and well-rounded person, and the teachers and staff never treated us like kids, even though we were in our teens. And I have to say that I feel I received an A++ education that TOTALLY prepared me for university. I mean, when I went to college, I had LESS homework than during SMA, and my classes were way EASIER than my high school ones. Pow! Take that! They taught me how to stand up for myself and how to get involved and ask questions. When I went to college, I was surprised to see that not many people were vocal like I was. Oh, and St. Mary's does not have uniforms (common misconception), and last time I checked they have the most liberal dress code of all the Portland private schools. Yes, you can wear flip-flops (Central Catholic doesn't allow that)! And SMA is right downtown. I took Tri-Met to school every day for four years! And because it's not a huge campus, you can leave the grounds for lunch after your freshman year. AWESOME. The teachers rock, the students rock, and they offer good financial aid packages. And I like the aid program they've got going on: For every $100 they give you in aid, the student has to do one hour of service work. It totally got me involved during my time. Oh, and no one's mascot has anything on SMA's (Laura N....that means your poet, too!): It's a blue music note. Ha! I've got nothing but love for this place. Send your baby girls here.

Coming from the tech side, they push the boundaries in a lot of areas. They are now moving to become more of a R&D school and can't wait to see where that goes. The instructors have real world experience and prepare you to hit the ground running, as long as you put the work in. Overall I really enjoyed my time here and proud to put them on my resume.

It's a teaching clinic and you are helping the students refine their craft. The students in my experience are lovely people. The Neutral: The students are refining their craft - they may not know to elevate your head just a bit if you're having trouble with the water jet cleaning tool. The Bad: The administration. They allow patients NO agency as to their own care. You either accept their treatment regimen, or you're out the door. This means LOTS of xrays. Unwarranted head xrays aren't my idea of a good time, so I'm no longer a patient. If they're worried about liability around not having xrays, why don't they have the patient sign a waiver?
