That's was my last straw. The employees are not helpful, The store is ugly and not clean with horrible lighting and most of all I can no longer stand their stupid app and the ridiculous gatekeeping of ALL sales prices in this way. If you insist that I swipe a card or enter my phone number or an email address ... whatever, I have come to expect that.This app, however, is a piece of trash. Jewel is a place I shop when I just run out for a couple things in the evening. Often I'm out the door and don't even remember to take my phone with me. This is not a place I would ever do my weekly shopping. Their prices are too expensive for that, and the vibe of the store is too scuzzy and kind of hideous. So I would never want to be in there for that long. So inevitably, I need to call somebody over to help me and sometimes they'll just use their little override badge to give me the sales pricesnon a few items. Today I had 4 bags of salad, some cottage cheese and crackers. The lady working the self - checkout corral decided the best use of her time was to delete all my sale items and send me on my way with a box of crackers and no dinner. Extremely disappointed and appalled. Can't or won't? You just lost me as a customer after 50 yrs! Tried to return a handful of items today 2-2325 2pm and the associate stated without a receipt it's their policy that they can't do it. I asked for a manager and she stated that "she is the manager and I been doing this for over 30 yrs". I said my husband died recently and she literally said 'take that out of the equation.". I left them the items and she said you can't leave them here" . To state that I am appalled of her lack of empathy and customer service skill it's an understatement! Very disappointed with my interaction with the new associate they hired at the fish department of their Naperville location. The new guy had a very haughty attitude and on top of that he was totally inexperienced in handling fish. When I asked him to cut the red snapper I bought into steaks, he literally mutilated the fish without cutting the pieces cleanly and also did not remove the scales. We found that out to our dismay when we took out the fish from the refrigerator to cook it. The pieces had jagged edges and because the scales were not removed when the fish was whole, the fish started to disintegrate when we tried to remove the scales from the individual pieces. Also, later during the same shopping session, I realized that I needed some more fish. When I approached the counter, he wasn't there but appeared within a couple of minutes from somewhere. When I said I wanted to make another purchase, he literally left, saying the seafood department was closed for the day! In contrast, the associate I had met on my previous visit was the nicest individual you could find who gladly helped me with all my needs with a smile and went the extra length to clean and dress the fish in the proper way before cutting it. They advertised 99 cent per pound pork loin roast, but instead of a roast, you have to buy a whole slab of pork between 17 - 20 pounds!! False advertising, as the picture on the sale ad shows an individual roast. Also advertised 5.99 seafood stuffed salmon they didn't have and the person working in the meat department acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. I went to buy cold brew coffee on March 03, 2025 and unfortunately trusted jewels employees too much to check expiration dates because the coffee i brought home, and drank a entire cup of was OVER A MONTH expired, it tasted like soy sauce and was a waste of my money. This is 2nd time in 2 months buying expired coffee, multiple occasions bought expired salads or yogurts, in total like 6-7 times in less than a year I've gone to this store and returned home with expired goods. Previously i bought ranch... and it was so expired that it caused me to be physically sick because most people assume the stores won't sell stuff that's expired... people trust that idea... and then people get sick from it. CHECK ALL YOUR GOODS NO MATTER IF THEY ARE DRY, FROZEN, CANNED GOODS!! JEWEL DOES NOT APPARENTLY TEACH THEIR EMPLOYEES ABOUT FOOD SAFETY! Kudos to jewel for not having my chicken order ready. Made the order online, revived an email confirmation and of course went to pick it up but they didn't have it. This is not the first time this had happen. Why have the option to make an order online if you're not even going to have an order ready for pick up? Also I'd like to personally thank the employee at self check out who accused my husband for not paying for his items These employees sure know how to make guests feel comfortable during a very uncomfortable time. Normally I'd give this Jewel a much higher review. But today, we shopped during senior hours (Thursday around 7:30 am). We spotted three vendors, five employees and three shoppers with masked pulled down below their nose. I did notice a security worker standing In one place near the door, who could have easily walked through the store to make sure all were in compliance with the law. If a wealthy corporation like Jewel who does not pay employees a living wage, makes little effort to.keep us safe, I would advise people to shop elsewhere, at least for the duration of the COVID epidemic. I haven't been a huge fan of this jewel since we moved to the area but have given them multiple chances. First time the pickup order was missing multiple items, second time I ordered chicken for my daughters party and they said they didn't have the order because one of the employees put the written order in the wrong spot. This is the third strike, we put in a pickup order between 7-8 PM. Got a notification they started picking the order at 6:55. Showed up at 7:20-7:30 (after a family party so all the kids were in the car) and I had to call them because the app didn't let me check in. The employee on the phone said it would be 8 PM before the order. So we took the kids home to get them in bed I came back at 845 and was told the pickup area closes at 8 pm.... Thank you to Kevin who still got our order for us and brought it out. But that will be it for trying jewel. Gave two stars because the employees that end up dealing with the issues because of other peoples mistakes seem to be really nice and helpful. read more

Love shopping here at Jewel-Osco! All of their produced was displayed very well, the whole place is so clean, well-organized, well-maintained, and all of the item are well-stocked. From their fruits, veggies, meats, canned goods, breads, dairies, and others. You can literally tell that everyone there from employees to manager is caring a lot with their place by maintaining the cleanliness and great atmosphere of the whole place. Jewel-Osco has the best products that we might looking for and we actually need in our daily essentials. Even the things we did not actually know that we need are there in their selection. So incredible shopping place. You can also visit some of their food stall inside, like bakery department, ready-to-eat food section, and others. Really amazed and loved how unique their place is. Perfect for big families and bunch of friends. The customer service here at this place is so amazing, you freely see it by yourself, so don't hesitate to drop by and visit. This Jewel-Osco will never disappoint. You will absolutely love their place too. Everything there is worthy. I tried out the online ordering and delivery service offered by Jewel-Osco. Of the roughly 20 items ordered, I was notified the following day that 5 were not available (including bread...). Too late to cancel by this time. I was also informed that despite my having selected no substitutions, my order for "ham salad" was being substituted with hard salami. Ridiculous. Once I received the order I found that the expiration dates on some items were very close to the current date and in one case (Sabra hummus), the item was four days past its listed "best by" date. I called customer service, and after roughly fifteen minutes on hold, I received a refund for the hard salami and humus. I really wanted to like this service as I grew up shopping there, but alas I have to recommend against the service. read more

All of them are so willing to assist all of their customers and they all know how to treat their customers so well. This place is always clean, very nice, well-stocked, organized, and also well-decorated. They are 24 hours open, it is so convenient, you can visit their store anytime you want, and if you need something to buy as soon as possible. All of their produce is always fresh and new, from their fruits, veggies, meats, canned goods, snacks, frozen foods, imported goods, and others. All of it are always up-to-date and well-maintained. You can literally tour the whole place just by getting all the things you need and worth to purchase. Also if you are in a hurry you can easily stop by and quickly pick up all the things you need. Jewel has really stepped up their game. I'm assuming much of this can be attributed to Albertson's purchasing Safeway and bringing this Jewel out of the stone age. They still have some improving to do in order to match the quality of some of the newer stores to come on the scene (Mariano's, etc), but it has been a vast improvement over where they were when I wrote my first review of this store. Their prices seem to have gotten more competitive on the center store stuff, but the perimeter is still higher than most. The produce is far more than the likes of Joseph's and so is their meat department. We have found ourselves going to Jewel much more than ever before, but we are typically only shopping the deals for the week and making runs to other stores in town for the remaining items in need. read more

The only reason to shop here is if Aldi, Joseph's, and any other store in the area is closed for the night. Jewel is open 24 hours. However, their prices on everything,...everything is higher than any other grocery store. From coffee, to ice cream, to liquor, to milk... This Jewel is merely a huge convenience store that sells relatively fresh fruit. It is a big Walgreens, a CVS. I am surprised this store is still in business. Sadly, this is one of THE last stores who actually has real buttercream cupcakes and cakes worth purchasing. I love a great buttercream frosting. However, I am not sure if this store will last very long with the competition from the other big stores surrounding it. In order for Jewel on Randall Road-Algonquin to hang in there, they are going have to revamp some things. Create a better customer service attitude with some of the older cashiers, don't strip so much product and make so many changes all the time, keep accepting coupons and make searching for coupons and sales on the MyMixx app easier. Tonight I received a reply to my review of Jewel Foods and their app and Drive Up & Go service. I was told to use their official site to discuss further problems. And also tonight I ordered 20 more Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix pouches from a different Jewel store, this one in Crystal Lake, IL, using the app for a Drive Up order. I entered my credit card info and received an order confirmation. When I picked up the order, a friendly young man placed a bag on my rear seat and wished me a good evening. I got home and saw I had been given 4. The message: Customers beware. All branded stores are not equal, and do not do this. Folks at Jewel might think I want to tell them all about my experiences and hear what they have to say. Nope, not the case. First, I cannot believe they don't know about this issue. No store anywhere is perfect! However I do NOT agree with all of the negative reviews regarding this store, the staff is always helpful & friendly, especially the management! Take into consideration how hard these people have to work with this location being so busy. I have found several of my usual shopping items here that I have not found at other stores. Jewel Review from a 30 year resident. This Jewel used to have happy employee's but the atmosphere has changed as the norm appears to be consistent with the following... Public Bathrooms: Dirty floors, walls, sink; dull lighting, dingy changing table and an old metal broken down feminine product machine. Can't control the cause but you can and must be the solution. Store Manager: Frequently spotted on the side of the front entrance smoking cigarettes with a stone face. Rarely makes eye contact with customers and doesn't initiate a greeting when walking past. Assistant Store Manager: Sometimes will looks up and make eye contact but does not greet you either. Stone facing continues. Long-term Service Desk Supervisor: Barely ever greats you with a smile and is difficult to engage her to smile, however she knows what she is doing and is efficient. Unfortunately she primarily wears, you guessed it, a stone face. Grocery Items: 1. Meat quality has improved over the years but choices remain limited. 2. Some store brands are really good however they carry a number of name brand versions of the same product (Mac/Cheese) and discontinue others that sold well to make room. 3. Produce getting far better. Keep up the good work! 4. Pricing is still high for most items and comparable to Mariano's. 5. Store needs to stop the marketing tricks by swapping items from one area to another every quarter. I understand the concept, but it is frustrating to come in and quickly get home to prepare dinner after a long day. 6. Prepared Hot Food Items: Please stop wasting our money and spoiling our dinner by giving us 'dried out' chicken pieces. I know you rotate but the chicken and potatoes sit way too long under the heat lamp. Either cook smaller batches or pack it up for resale after an hour. 7. Deli raised prices and changed brands again without notice. Inventory has been running out the past few months on sale items. Checking out: Hard working pleasant cashiers however are ALWAYS understaffed with only 2-3 checkouts and very long lines sometimes 8 deep in each. They removed the self checkouts at this store. Could you not at least have left two operational? Green concept by plastic waste reduction: Green is good however, the plastic bags are cheap by being too thin. Cashiers & baggers are instructed by corporate to stuff them, no matter how heavy or fragile the item, so the bags most always break open before I can unload them.
