Fresh Thyme Crystal Lake is not fresh. i purchased chicken breasts on May 31 with a sell by date of June 14. I opened the package on May 31, and they smelled rotten. I rinsed them and they still smelled rotten. It wasn't practical to drive back to the store to complain, plus I would've had to sit in the car with the rotten chicken, so I threw away $16 worth of organic rotten chicken. The produce i bought wasn't very fresh either. This store should be shut down. Overpriced, no quality control. read more

I figured this is a good "thyme" to tell you about Fresh Thyme. It is a market place with that local feel. For a place that is a tad smaller in size when stacked against nearby competitors, they have quite an array of fresh, healthy goods, exclusive Fresh Thyme items, fruits and veggies, unique meats, and much much more using local farmers and trusted partners. So many kombuchas and probiotics! I finally visited after 2 years. Before 2020 I used to visit at least weekly. I always get lucky with random finds that have great hors d'oeuvre potential...or I'll just break them out when the wife is asleep. Great honey, fantastic olives, nice cheeses, freshly pressed juices. Latest find, multicolored colored baby carrots for a poppin veggie tray with dip. One thing that has changed, and I believe for the better, is that most of the purchase-by-weight items are now sealed and prepackaged as to avoid further contamination. Prices are one notch higher but as long as they keep churnin out stuffed grape leaves, rare ground meat, and nut paste, you can count on your main man to pay Fresh Thyme frequent visits! Honestly, I love the products at the store. And the Sushi Guy is awesome! But the service is horrendous. Stopped in this morning for a basket full of $100 worth of groceries. To find the checker lane closed. Only one other person at the front, and one employee who is basically avoiding eye contact with me so she doesn't have to bring up my groceries. I've already reduced my visits here in half based on this continual issue. Still have to rethink coming back. read more

Meijer bought Fresh Thyme. Bye Bye healthy foods, now 2000 products coming in that include Doritos & other junk foods along with otc drugs that are set up in basically random order that makes no sense. No store maps for anyone, customers or employees. It's back to Whole Foods $$$$ & Trader Joe's less than adequate healthy choices for problematic diets. What a lousy business sale Fresh Thyme made. But hey remember it's all about them. $$$$$, the bottom line and not the customer's well being. When this place first opened, we absolutely loved it. The produce was always super fresh, the sales were decent, and the atmosphere is always welcoming. As of late, any produce we buy goes rotten within a couple days. Literally anything we buy has to be used right away. I'm not sure if it's because of the current management, but I refuse to buy anything from this location until this issue is resolved. read more

If Whole Foods and Marianos had a baby, they would name it Fresh Thyme. This store is a perfect place to find natural & organic groceries, bath stuff & other treats. Shopping the weekly ad will score you the best deals, like the buy one get one free kombucha or a full pint of the biggest blueberries I've seen for less than $2. Admittedly, there are certain products that you can find for much cheaper elsewhere, but if you're a savvy shopper, you'd be remiss to leave Fresh Thyme out of your rotation. If you've got kiddos in tote, make sure they keep an eye out for a vintage looking red tractor, hidden somewhere in the store. Finding it will score them a special treat on checkout, just don't tell the produce guy or most people on the floor because they have no clue about the treasure hunt for some reason (even though there are signs everywhere). Also, a big shout-out for the "water samples," my toddler son's favorite part of the whole trip. There's a water cooler at the front of the store, in their sitting/eating area. Good stuff here.! As you can see in my pictures, they have a nice affordable selection of meats. I especially like their bulk nuts and seeds. They have a nice assortment of produce and their aisles have some hard to find organic stuff. They have Coconut Butter, which seems hard to find at the typical grocery chain. they have a section of the store that is close to what you would find at the Vitamin Shoppe and at similar prices. All in all, they have a nice selection and if you shop their deals you can leave with quality foods on the cheap. read more

Signs are posted throughout the store telling people to social distance and wear a mask. For some reason the employees here don't think this applies to them too. They just had their masks on but didn't social distance. Guess they get to pick and choose what rules to follow. Safety doesn't seem to be a priority at this store. read more

I am been there for a while, usually enjoy it. I brought my own shopping bags, there are no signs up about them. All the other local stores are allowing shopping bags for quite some time now. I gave them to the cashier and she snapped at me "don't put those up here!" She said you can use them but leave them in your cart and you bag them yourself! I said "oh that's interesting other stores are letting people bring them in and bag them". She said "well it's still unsafe and we aren't foolish here!" Nothing like getting scolded when you're buying 100.00 worth of groceries. I know it's still corporate policy, probably time for a change, but I didn't appreciate being treated like that. read more

Great place to get decently priced fruit and vegetables. The staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable! Although it can get pricey depending on what you get, everything has a price/weight or price/number on every item sticker. So it makes it easy to compare to places. They also run deals weekly, if not daily. read more

So this is the first time I've been to this store and I was amazed by their cleanliness. They have tons of deals on organic produce and their homeopathic aisles are insanely good! So many different herbs and teas, sprays, and mists. If you look closely in the aisles you'll find baskets of free samples and free recipe books. This grocery store was pretty good when it first opened. The employees were all so nice and helpful. Not anymore. This store has the rudest employees I've ever encountered. Two weeks ago, I was in the produce section and asked the young man who was stocking if they had any sugar snap peas. He never said a word and barely looked at me. He merely pointed. I even said "thank you" and still didn't get a response. The manager of the store once was talking to a cashier as I approached the register. I could hear the manager talking about the schedule to the cashier. As I got close to the register, the manager was clearly agitated that she was being interrupted by a customer. The look on her face and the sigh and muttering under her breath, "We'll talk later" said it all. Same manager another time actually complained to me as I was checking out (she was the cashier) about the "idiot" who went out the emergency exit door. She went on and on about how she can't believe people can be so stupid, etc. Very tactless and unprofessional. Also, there is no customer service counter. If you need to talk to a manager, you have to wait in line at the cashier to ask to speak to a manager - or even get an employee to help you. Today I went into the store to buy organic chicken that was 50% off. The sale was supposed to be yesterday (Friday), today (Sat.) and Sunday. I looked all over the meat section and couldn't find any of this organic chicken. I saw a butcher stocking some other meat so I politely said, "Excuse me." She never looked my way, just kept stocking and answered, "Yes?" I said, "Do you have any of the Coleman organic chicken that's 50% off?" She said, "No" - still without even looking at me. Again, because I am not a rude person, I thanked her. Got no response. Now you know why people choose to shop at Trader Joe's over stores like this. TJ's customer service is amazing! They bend over backwards to help their customers. That is why they're so successful. If Fresh Thyme makes it another year, I will be shocked. Their prices are way too high and they hardly have any organic fruit. That's another thing - all their organic produce was supposed to be 25% off this weekend, too. The only organic fruit they had was grapes and pears. NO berries at all. Vegetables were slim pickings, too - some greens, carrots, tomatoes, onions and yams. That's it. There were some empty places in the produce section where the veggies should have been, but no one was in produce stocking the shelves. This place is pathetic, I'm done. This site recently open in Crystal Lake and we wanted to see what they had to offer. All in all it is a good idea but with our area having Fresh and World Markets it may not fair well. In addition Josephs produce and deli products are cheaper and yet boasts the same quality. We tried several items to include their Salmon, deli ham and chicken, and several cheeses and found for the price they are just average. read more

The employees are very friendly and helpful. Every time I need something they have it in stock and if they don't they give me a rain check on sales. They are special order things for you if it's a product they don't carry. I've even seen them start carrying products that people ask for more of. They carry specialty product for allergies that other places don't have. read more

First off, I hate this place. I seem to always go there when it's snowing outside, and that makes the employees there very rude. I went in yesterday to pick up some items for my fiancé. I was looking specifically for Wolfgang Puck's Chicken Noodle Soup. They were all out. I asked a worker if he could check in the back for some more. He told me to go around the corner and to ask someone else. I go around the corner, and there is no one there. So I still am looking for the soup, no assistance whatsoever. Food selection is pretty meh. Need more organic fruits. I could really do without this store. I have to make a return later today, so we'll see how that goes read more

This store is nothing short off awful. The customer service, which is non existent, is laughable. The staff stands around and talks with each other rather than help especially at the register. There is a supervisor, do not remember her name, short black hair and glasses, who was blatantly rude, talked only to the bagger, and would toss my purchases like they were nothing. What disappointment we feel having just emptied our wallet at Fresh Thyme. The experience this evening started off okay, with a pleasant deli experience (and Boar's Head). Yet moving the cart down the aisle, it was clear they see their competition is Whole Foods (aka "whole paycheck"). Prices are HIGH for most everything. Produce is average yet expensive. Ding dong, the dairy - oh my, how high. Then the checkout girl (only one open queue) man-handled our Cliff bars, tossing them (catapulting?) to the bagger. Her demeanor lacked any sense of kind-hearted human interaction. In contrast, Trader Joe's consistently gets the human experience. If only Trader's was 10 minutes closer! Well, it's safe to say our stale encounter at Fresh Thyme has expired. read more

A big waste of time! There is nothing great or unusual there. The deli is nothing , the butcher is nothing, the prepared foods are terrible. If you want nuts and granola in bulk go there but for regular shopping it's not good. Went today and the strawberrys had mold on theme. Fresh market , Joseph's, Caputos way better! read more

The perfect mix of Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Jewel. Great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, excellent sandwiches made at the deli (including a monster Cuban sandwich), more uber fresh prepared/packaged meals that are made in-store than anywhere else I've seen and a great meat counter. They have a great selection of homemade sausages, comparable to Caputo's. Excellent beer selection, lots of local favorites at prices comparable to cheaper than Jewel. I see a lot of people complain about the prices, but you have to realize that food cost has increased more than almost any other consumable in the past 10 years. Blueberries aren't $0.99 a pint anymore and you can't get a gallon of milk for $1.19. Get with it. read more
