The Jewel-Osco in Munster, Indiana is the WORST supermarket in the area. The pharmacy is the ONLY department in the store with good service and helpfull staff. The store is dated and because it is so small things are scrammed in everywhere making it difficult to navigate comfortably; the employees in the produce department and in the seafood/meat department are not at all friendly and their attitude is poor; and a new employee in the deli department literally rolled up my meats and cheeses purchases into cylinders and placed the price sticker there to hold the shape. The bag had to be torn open because you could not access the zipper as a result. The baggers overstuff the thin and cheap plastic bags which tear as a result. The two women who primarily work the customer service counter are rude. The store does not adequately stock sale items. Many expired items can be found throughout the store. Due to the small size of the store, shopping carts were moved outside to create more display space......not a good idea when it rains.... read more

I was shopping and the cashier didn't pay attention that the girl behind me had a bouquet of flowers and she had the cashier scan the flowers in her hand and ran out the door . I quickly looked at the computer and told her her those aren't my flowers. But it was a second too late. Jewel did make it right for me but this is a new way of stealing. read more

This is NOT about the Munster store! I've called Jewel help line 2Xs today, they have foreigners answering the phones. I've TRIED to explain the problem with NO solution! Some items in the sale ad are NOT on the " just 4 u" app... 2 for 1 section is missing from the app, no shrimp, no burgers, no Mexican sausage, no brats, no it. sausage. While shopping at this Jewel today, I was in line at the Service desk behind a person being waited on, after that person was serviced and left I move forward to the counter and the service agent walked away. Who does that! Her behavior was extremely rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful. She left and began to assist the cashier across from the service desk by bagging groceries. Really, am I invisible? I asked if anyone was going to assist me at the service desk she turned around and stated, "in a minute " this happened Sat 4/19/2025 approximately 5:45pm. My dad came in literally 20 minutes ago to grab some chicken for our family. He ordered a 12 piece and we got 7 pieces of chicken. The size of the bucket shows that 12 pieces wouldn't be able to fit. Called the store, and was told he needed a receipt as proof. As if there isn't a sticker on the bucket that shows it was purchased today, and the chicken was still warm because he said it had just came up. The supervisor for that shift said he couldn't refund or give us 5 more pieces of chicken without a receipt. But the store director could who wasn't there. We are a family of 6. We splitting 7 pieces of chicken amongst a family of 6 because someone doesn't know how to count to 12. This was one of our favorite stores to shop because it's convenient and we live in Hammond. They will never see a penny from us again. I would give it 0 stars if ghat was an option! Update: Jacob remedied the situation and gave my dad a gift card for the Chicken. We appreciate that Jacob! This Jewel-Osco is usually very crowded. I went there on a Friday afternoon when it was raining outside. While sitting in the parking lot, a heavy set lot employee bumped into my car. My car shook, but I didn't think any damage occurred with a heavy person bumping my car. When I got home, my husband looked at my car and noticed a small dent in my driver side fender. I then called and informed the store manager - Scott Allen. We came back to the store and Mr Allen took my information along with pictures. He told me the claims department would contact me and to get an estimate on the damage. I then called Mr Allen with the auto repair cost and from that point on he was very unfriendly. The lady with claim department took over ONE MONTH to contact me with her report, after I sent her pictures of the damage to my car. She did not want to hear about the cost to repair my car. When she finally contacted me from Sedgwick claims, Ms. Vanessa told me " because I did not report the incident right when it happened the claim was denied!" I told them that I could point out the employee that bumped my car in the rain, but they did not care about that. I also contacted Jewel-Osco customer service because I am so disappointed with the outcome. I have shopped at this Jewel-Osco for many years, but will never go there again. I advise other customers to BEWARE when you shop there because they will not take any responsibility if your car gets damaged. Also they become defensive and unfriendly when you make any concerns about your car in their parking lot. I am a very, very, very dissatisfied customer. My sister was tripped by an employee the other day. She is injured. You have not returned her calls at all. If there isn't a call back or some type of resolution I will have to take another route to get this resolved. She is very bruised on her knees and elbows being that is how she landed. She's in pain and doesn't know how to proceed. We spoke to a manager and was told Scott would be calling back in the morning. After not receiving a call back from Scott, she has called back twice and was promised a call both times and that has yet taken place. The way this is being handled is unheard of and is only making this matter worse. read more

I really can't say anything bad about this store. I went in on a Sunday and it was packed! It had all sorts of brands and great deals. The products were properly shelved and clearly priced with all readable and easily understood sales. They even have coupons on your phone, so no need for those pesky paper ones except in extreme cases. The only thing I had a problem with was bumping into people upon every turn. I guess that's a good thing though because they are definitely worth the drive. I just tend to like the openness of the warehouses. I would definitely Recommend on a not so busy day and time. read more

I love Jewel but I especially love this one. They always have fresh fruits and veggies in abundance. They also have a lot of vegan and gluten free products in store. Quite a few people will complain that they are extremely crowded but where else would you go for fresh fruit and veggies for a deal? The best thing about this store to me is the steamer at the fish counter. The have a steamer available where they will steam and season any fish of your choice for free. I get steamed salmon sometimes and it's always delicious. Less than 10 minutes to get half of a healthy meal in the neighborhood. Definitely my go to store. read more

Usually I like coming to this grocery store and shopping but I made the mistake of coming here at night when I guess teenagers are working after school and I tried to use the woman's bathroom it is sooo bad and gross it's bloody pads and poop on the back of the toilet and also bloody tissue on the floor,when we complained about it being like that to the employees of the store at check out they didn't even care about it the customer service is very bad all they did was laugh and say "we'll look into it" i have no idea why teenagers would think working at a grocery store and having a public restroom that is DISGUSTING and looks USEABLE would be ok . read more

This Jewel is only a mile or two from my home but I usually don't shop here. In a pinch I go in here to grab a corsage for my son's prom date. The florist were the meanest, rudest, nastiest folks I've ever had the "pleasure" to deal with. They originally ignored me then went on to act as if I was bothering them. I never beg anyone to take my money. I promptly left the store and took myself and my money down the street to the local Strack n VanTil where I received amazing service and the flowers that I needed. Note to managers: your staff is greatly in need of some training and maybe a staff of younger, less grumpy people would be a good idea. read more

I enjoy coming here. Main reason it is convenient for me. Not the Best looking location, but I have no complaints. I am able to navigate the store with ease. I've become familiar with some of the staff. Yes, some don't know how to smile and greet properly being in the customer service business. Unfortunately I have had worse experiences at other locations, that are considered better based on other reviews here. Look all stores can get super busy, it happens. This store is at an ideal location. Jewel's is the only store I will go get deli meat and cheese from. Even it being my main store to shop at. I was in charge of bringing pierogi's to a graduation party. I needed 12 dozen/1 case. I tried other stores and they didn't have the quantity I needed. I called Jewel and spoke to Steve. He informed me that he was expecting a shipment the next morning and asked that I call Adam. The next day I spoke to Adam and John (in frozen foods). They were able to go through several pallets of boxes to find the case I needed. Because of the exceptional service from Steve, Adam and John, who went out of their way to help me the graduation party was awesome and the pierogi's were a huge hit!! I have a serious gluten allergy and I always get frozen Perdue Chicken Strips (gluten free) everywhere I shop. Lately I've tried this jewel out a few times and noticed they don't carry them. (I looked multiple visits bc I was originally assuming they were sold out.) I come to find they don't carry it at all, so I asked a guy stocking the freezer if he could ask the grocery manager if they could start ordering some bc I would be purchasing Every visit. With my allergy it's very hard to find meat that doesn't make me sick, even the store packed meat makes me sick due to cross contamination. The worker basically told me to go "complain to the employee at the market area" (where ever that is?) and he said it would be pointless bc they wouldn't order something specific for just me. I've noticed over all this location has a very bad selection of food for gluten free and I have to go to target after to get more foods I can have. It's disappointing to know I have to go to a second store just for my chicken strips when they are literally sold EVERYWHERE else. This location has 25 different kinds of chicken strips but none gluten free, what a disappointment !! It would be nice if they would take customer suggestions instead of me needing to go to a secondary store every trip or just switching stores all together eventually. Please start ordering the frozen Perdue gluten free chicken strips, otherwise you will lose a customer who spends about $200 a week. read more

Wow, yeah. I don't think I've ever been to a supermarket that was this large, yet so incredibly crappy. All I wanted was some apple juice for my cousin's kids. There's aisle market "Juices" in the same isle as soda, but there's no apple or cranberry juice there. Instead, you have to look near the orange juice, where you find a smattering of other juices. I scored the last bottle of apple juice in the entire store for $4. Gee, what a bargain. read more

Bad customer service. They are so rude to customers! Went into this Jewel a while back into a self checkout lane. I needed help and the young women overseeing these lanes, who was just 10 feet from me ignored me and talked to an old lady about personal matters for 30 minutes it seems. The longer I waited the more upset I became, and let her know. She made some rude comment about me without any apology. I went to a male manager, who ignored my complaints. I placed an order for chicken wings for a holiday party. A very friendly employee, Jennifer, spoke with her manager who confirmed they could have the order ready by 7:45 AM. I get there at 7:45 and spoke with a nasty employee who was bothered that I was interfering with her conversation with another employee. She said, "We knew you were coming but, they're still in the freezer, what can I say?" "They should have never assured you they would be ready!" With that I'm assuming she is the deli manager. This Jewel is closer than Homewood or Dyer, so why don't I shop here? I had a few things I needed, so I decided to give them another try. Produce section; beautiful! A bit of confusion in finding cilantro (not with the parsley like other stores.) I needed some deli cheese. Whoa! at least 20 people waiting in line and not a lot of help, so I took a pass. As I traveled through the aisles, many customers had their carts parked in the middle of the aisle absorbed in pondering the goods. Carol, a Supervisor (according to the name tag) checked my order out. She bagged my items and left them at the end of the check out counter and then turned to the next customer. I guess "Red Carpet Service" means you put your own bags into your cart before exiting! Now I remember why I go to Dyer and/or Homewood! read more

Visited this store on 8-6-17, and although I like the convenience, products and displays, again I was extremely turned-off by an employee. Last week it was a cashier but today it was an employee of the deli counter. At 8:30 AM, with one customer ahead of me (who was being serviced), I waited about three minutes and none of the other three deli associates even acknowledged that I was there: they were all "busy"; it wasn't until I forced the issue of asking one of those women (THE SECOND TIME) that I could make my selection. Honestly, why should a customer have to wait in this situation? Finally, one of the available associates decided she would assist me -- but only after she made me wait -- further -- while she took her time to tape two messages to the wall. Many of these longer-tenured associates seem to be think that the customers are working for them. My time, especially my weekend time, is precious to me. It appears that these people are the product of the store management. I can assure them that they won't have to worry about me any longer.
