When I first moved to area where there are mostly Pete's Markets I didn't know what to expect after having enjoyed shopping at Mariano's in my previous neighborhood. I really enjoy it and don't have to go to multiple stores to find what I want especially around the holidays when I need special meats like smoked turkey or sweet potato pie versus pumpkin or wild caught Whiting fish which I can hardly find at stores. read more

Let me start off by saying that I used to really like Pete's, until recently. I've been to a few different locations and usually got fresh food at a good price. A few weeks ago I bought some perch at the Calumet City store and didn't cook it right away. When I took it out of the freezer and opened the bag there was some kind of leaf in with the fish. I don't know about you but I don't need garnish or anything extra added to my food. I took the fish back and spoke to the store manager who said the new store policy is 24 hours for returns. Of course I was way past that. I asked for a store credit or refund and Pete's didn't budge. The customer is always wrong is their motto I'm thinking. It'll be 3020 before I come back to Pete's. read more

I was really surprised when I visited this store again. I had not been here in a few years but the last time I was there it was immaculate. They must have changed management because I visited the store last week and was surprised at how dirty it was. The floors had not been swept, the entrance/exit not been swept and the counter where hot food was dirty you could see the dirt, hand prints, bacteria. The store is well stocked and very organized but "CLEANLINESS" is a big thing for me. I purchased a few dry goods and left. I hope they get better with keeping the store clean because it will drive customers away. No one wants to shop at a store that is not clean. I love Pete's Fresh Market but I only shop at the clean locations. They may need to look closer at their Management. Wow, this place is huge. The fruit and vegetables were to die for. I love fresh produce, and so much to choose from. I saw at least, 5 kinds of apples, 4 kinds of oranges, Cactus and even three types of cactus blooms. I started my diet yesterday, but, I just had to make that drive,and try the sushi. Taste be fresh, y'all. I didn't think to take a picture of that humongous take out smorgasbord. Just a lot to take in. Some items was a little high priced, but I use to my (states) prices in Indiana. Smell your meat before you purchase it or before storing it in the freezer once home. On three different occasions, I've purchased spoiled meat. I've purchased smoked turkey necks, chicken wings and ground beef. Unfortunately, I misplaced my receipt in two of the three instances but the this last time I had my receipt and when I returned to the store, the customer service clerk was so non-chalant about my experiences that it further frustrated me. They way they keep this store is close to immaculate! As someone said in another review, this place is great for produce. When you first walk in, you see the nice selection of fruits & vegetables. In most stores you see the produce all tossed around with empty gaps as if the produce has run out. The way this place looks, its like they make sure it looks nice and neat as there is never any empty space or produce looking like its all been thrown around. Everything is obviously fresh and prices are decent. In reference to the rest of the store, they obviously have everything most stores have. Great selections of meats and fish. They have vegan/Plantbased section of food a decent selection too. They have everything a grocery store should have, the staff was helpful when I was looking for items. This Pete's is constantly backed up. The checkout lanes move slowly without opening more lanes until it's out of control. Every single time I come here. This is not the place you can run in and run out, and I just remembered today why I try to avoid this location. I was in a rush before work to try to find an item I just got at another location a couple weeks ago, and of course they don't even have it so it's a huge waste of my time along with waiting in slowly moving long lines. I only have about five items and it doesn't even matter. Cashiers work like they don't care. I'm gonna try to avoid this location indefinitely. If you're in a hurry don't even give this place a thought save your time and go elsewhere. read more

Granted, as an occupational hazard I may spend a little too much time in grocery stores and know an exceptional amount about commodity price influxes and shelf life etc. so imagine my surprise when I paid a visit to this indie grocery store, near the Indiana border, in a vast wasteland of fast food joints and strip malls. Imagine my surprise to find a produce department abundant with a plethora of the freshest produce, the juciest grapes, shiniest apples and delicious oranges, aromatic herbs, chard, and some exotic spices and everything in between. A huge deli case with some of the best prices I've seen and something that shocked me dead in my tracks: ground butterball turkey for $1.59 a pound. (note: I paid $4.99 at Dominicks the day before so yes, I bought 10 lbs.). The prices on meat are fantastic and their weekly sales flyers illustrate some pretty amazing deals. They have prepared meals like Roasted Chicken, Ribs, a huge Salad bar, and a basically-by-the-pound buffet of daily offerings which can be a working girl's best friend. Pete's offers a huge frozen section, a seductive bakery and as of recent a very competitive beer, wine and spirits section. I expected this store to be another of the brokedown palaces that often operate in the netherlands of the collar communities but this store dispells the stereotype with friendly cashiers, courteous butchers and a hands on Manager that really interacts with his customers and knows where everything is and whether they stock it or not. Super clean, friendly and prices that are wake up calls to what things really cost. read more

Do Not EVER get the catering services at this particular location. I had placed an order for tray of roasted chicken, 5 lbs macaroni and cheese, vegetable tray and Greek potato's. I came to pick the purchase up-Not ready as promised. I waited patiently for 40 minutes, running late to the event I was to bring the catered food too. When I finally received the order; I was already late to the event and made a bad mistake of not checking the items ordered. The macaroni was like mash a roni- and the cheese on the top BURNT badly. It was almost a watery consistency when spooned out of the tray. The Greek potato's appeared to be hurriedly prepared and slopped into the tray. and the vegetable tray had rotten tomato's and dried dried carrots. The tray of chicken was the only item that was descent. I apologized to the group for the turn out of the catered food. Several stated they felt queasy after trying the macaroni. Believe me, I was embarrassed. I came to the customer service the next morning and the manager was called-he was very very rude and ignorant man. Stating that the food was prepared with care and everything always is checked carefully for the utmost perfection. What a load of crap (excuse my language)- I brought the photo's and explained the food was not well prepared and the macaroni was atrocious. I did bring the vegetable tray and proceeded to show him the rotten tomato's and carrots. He became even more rude and implied "we tampered with the tray." He was unprofessional, rude, uncouth, and realistically should not have a job in that specific sector. Perhaps, stocking the can goods is more up his alley. Petes should take the fresh out there name. I bought Petes brand hot dog buns on Friday (7/21/15) opened it up Sunday (7/23/15) to eat to find nothing but mold. Sticker said packed on 7/18 and to sell by 7/26. Here's a list of issues I had, 1. When I called Sunday to let them know about the problem, MARTHA, gave me a hard time about a receipt. Yes I hold onto receipts like most people on higher values transactions. But if she would have been more proactive she could have asked if I was a Petes market "fresh?" Card holder. I went online and was able to track down purchase within the last month. 2. After taking the buns to customer service I went to the bakery dept to purchase regular brand bread/buns from a outside vendor. I was curious and checked the buns on the shelves of the one I just returned to find 3 packages to have disgusting mold. One of the packages said sell by 8/20/2015 and i was in there Monday 8/24/2015. 3. This is not the first to see mold. In the summer I witnessed employees near the bin where strawberries were displayed, opening the containers and picking the molded strawberries throwing those out and closing them back up and back on the shelve. I spoke with one of the managers and he was kind. I believe he was upset with the situation and spoke to a associate in bakery about the issue. PLEASE TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES TO HAVE BETTER QUALITY CONTROL AWARENESS!!!!!!! I will NOT shop there ever!!!! read more

-I took my Mom to Pete's to buy some oranges. She's 97 and needs assistance when shopping. She purchased two bags of oranges. It took her about a week to get through the first bag and they were good. The second bag, contained three moldy, soft oranges and she wanted me to take her back to get them replaced. Since a week had passed, the store manager stated that they could NOT replace or refund the second bag of oranges even though she had her receipt. I explained that she depends on me to drive and help her and the snow storm on 12/22 and 12/23 prevented me from driving my mom back to the store. Please be realistic. You should stand by the products you sell and when a longtime, 97-year old Great Grandmother asks you to replace three moldy oranges, you should honor her request. Please reconsider, she's very upset since the store manager belittled her in front of other customers and made her feel like she was dishonest and trying to get something for nothing. It's not right to treat anyone this way, especially a senior that makes a special effort to travel and shop at Pete's when Jewel and Aldi are much more convenient. read more

On June 16, 2020 @ 11:30 pm I went to Pete's products @ 1968 sibley in Calumet City, Illinois, I sent 387.02. I got home and but all the food in the refrigerator. On the 18 at about 7:45 am I got up and started with the fruit pack after pack was molded. So I went to the first pack of meat spoiled and soon on and so on. Went back to the store at about 10:25 am I spoke with two managers and was told because of the COVID-19 they could not replace or return any of the food that I got from them. I sent a complaint to they company on June 19 and as of today I have not gotten a reply. I am not the only person that have had this as a problem. My complaint is that majority of their stories is in African American communities We already have no grocery store or we have the worst food, case in point Pete's. I don't believe that I could buy 62 items and 31 would be spoiled and the store not know that. That same day I went to Wholes Foods sent 129.20 and got 12 items and all my food was find. I would like for some to make this right. read more

2-stars for the overall quality. Juice bar is great! I special order my juices however, I do not buy anything else here. You can smell the meat/seafood department upon entering the store!!! YUCK!!!! This is definitely a no-no! They do not take AMEX credit cards. I've been to Pete's in Oak Park and Naperville and trust me - there is no comparison. I actually purchased a cooked beef brisket from the Naperville location and it was a winner!!!! They offer a totally different selection which I'm sure is related to their clientele but I'm cool with that I just don't appreciate the poor quality of items being sold at the Calumet City location. By the way, I did purchase a slice of pizza from here which I quickLy returned because no sooner than I got into my vehicle it was cold. Now, I do like cold pizza but I don't buy cold pizza IJS. This is a great place to shop for groceries. The produce department always looks stocked and clean. It feels like the staff really cares about the items. Employees are always walking around taking out the bad produce and straightening up. It doesn't matter what day of the week you visit or even how busy they are. The deli seems to always have customers but they are great at getting to you quickly. It seems when you shop in an atmosphere such as this, customers are more pleasant. Taller people asking you if they can reach something that you can't. People offering you their shopping cart of they see you need one, too. read more

Every time I buy turkey legs from this place they have mold on them. The first time I noticed in the store and I told the guy from the back and he removed all that was packaged from that day. Fast forward to today (months later)I believed the problem had been solved, so I checked the package from the outside before I purchased them. I came home and opened them and there it is again on the bottom...furry little white balls. Unfortunate because this is a very nice store. Hands down, they have the best produce department anywhere in this area. More recently, they expanded their hot bar with hot food they are opening a juice bar and some other things. It is a little bit like a Whole Foods of the south suburbs where you can go get plenty of prepared food and great fresh fruits and veggies. I also love that they have a huge selection of meats all different cuts some pre-seasoned they even have fresh fish bar. The only thing I would say about the meats is please please please check the dates on them and maybe take a sniff. I have found a couple of times that they're chicken leaves a little bit to be desired. The regular groceries I tend to find them to be a bit expensive compared to other places. read more

I live in Dolton and Dominicks and Jewel Food Stores closed so I was ecstatic when Petes Fresh Market opened. The produce was outstanding. Now, a few years later, they are selling produce that is bad (fruit flies, etc. ) I like organic and all natural products. I had recently purchased some organic celery for $3.99, took it home and it was brown on the top. Simply disgusting. This will be the last time I ever shop there. If a store is going to put something on sale, make sure it's fresh! read more

I used to shop here all of the time. Then I tried to return/exchange an item. And instead of listening to me the manager, George, threw away my food snatched my receipt and decided that he was not going to help me. When I requested the customer service number he told there was none and then proceeded to call me ignorant. I can do without the poor customer service and people that do not want to help you. Great store for produce! I can get a lot of fruits and vegetables cheaper here than anywhere else. And today, I found ORGANIC chard for 50 cents a bunch! I'm used to paying $2 at Meijer and even more than that at the health food stores. I only wish they had a better selection of organic items. read more
