After store agent appraised gold piece and confirmed weight and stated what my price would be, agent scraped gold piece defacing it and said it was actually copper. The store manager came over and inspected gold piece and verified it was truly gold. I got the original price quote but felt like the store agent was making a switch after her examination and study of the piece. Her x-ray machine had verified gold but then agent tried to lower price and damaged the gold piece if I had decided to keep if rather than accept a lower price. read more

The first time I went there, over a year ago, I had a terrific experience with a woman named Cheryl. She was extremely knowledgeable and explained everything thoroughly. I enjoyed talking with her. This is the last of 5 places I stopped by this week to see what I could get for an old high school senior ring (10K gold). They were within $5 of the highest price I was offered and they had great reviews, so I gave them my business. They offered to pay with cash or check, so I took the cash. The woman I worked with was very nice and explained what the "bar code reader on steroids" :) gun was used for (to detect the type of metal). All in all a very good experience. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I had anything else to sell. I recommend without hesitation. One thing to be aware of is they are required by NC law to take down your driver's license info and get a digital signature from you. This is to help prevent the purchase of stolen items, and to help reconnect owners with stolen items that get sold. As an FYI, it does pay to shop around. Took a gold ring to three Chapel Hill jewelers for appraisal. JewelRecycle beat the other two (Wentworth, Grimballs) by about 10%. In addition, they did the entire appraisal in front of me, explaining every step. The transparency was a nice touch. Granted this was a 4g ring so the difference in price was only a few dollars, but assuming the difference pro-rates over all transactions, a seller could earn considerably more selling here. I suspect it's a question of overhead. JewelRecycle has a small space and staff and can therefore afford to buy a little higher. read more

Reliable. Honest. Professional. Highly Recommended. At my elderly mothers request I took her silver place setting to JewelRecycle in University Mall to obtain an estimate of its value. James conducted the appraisal using a tool that was able to detect how much pure silver was in each piece. He patiently explained the process to me and was meticulous in ensuring he assessed all pieces correctly. He gave me a quote based on that days market price. My mother agreed to trade it in about a month later and once again James did his methodical assessment. It was great because the silver prices had jumped a bit. He asked whether we wanted a check or cash which surprised me. Of course I took the cash! Both times the transactions were professional and attentive, and the rate exchange was very good. I spent maybe 1/2 hour - 45 minutes (place settings for eight) and was done. James is a nice person -- extremely honest and reliable.
