ALAN MADE ME CRY. First, let me say. The woman behind the counter was very, very nice. A few weeks ago, I dropped my engagement ring on a porcelain tile floor. Because of the way my prongs are, occasionally the stone will get loose. A few times while living in south OC, we've had to bring it in to our local jeweler there to have the prongs tightened (better safe than sorry) without issue. We have lived in central OC for years now and this is the first time where the loose prong issue has come up. We live nearby Jewels By Alan and walk past the storefront often, so of course they came to mind. After speaking to the woman at the counter, she had Alan come by to take a look. He said he could fix it. Before leaving, I asked if we could view our GIA number so that both parties could have that on record before leaving it in his hands, a practice I always follow. Alan suddenly changed his demeanor, put my ring down in the tray in which he had been examining it, and walked away saying he no longer wanted to fix it. I have been without wearing my ring for a few weeks now and was eager to begin wearing again. Alan's tantrum was incredibly rude and upsetting. I can't believe a jeweler in business as long as they have been would act this way. I definitely would not recommend Jewels By Alan to anyone I know looking for any jewelry. There are many other jewelers out there that don't conduct themselves is such a rude manner. I understand my business was not a money-making one for him, but it certainly doesn't mean it couldn't have turned into future business. Incredibly rude. read more

What an absolute wast of time. I have a couple rings that I need sized, one of which is silver. Most jewelers don't work on silver so I called to confirm multiple times before going in and was told it would cost $30. I drove half an hour only to have a brief conversation with the gentleman behind the counter. Our conversation included the following main points: 1. They DO NOT work on silver. 2. Any work to the ring would destroy the Onyx stone. 3. They actually DO work on silver. 4. It would cost $80 (almost 3 times what I was told). I don't leave many reviews, let alone bad ones. Went to see if I could have a necklace fixed. The man I spoke with, who I believe was the owner - was honestly pretty rude. Told me it's very complicated and he can't do it by Christmas. I said that's fine as I wasn't asking for it to be done before Christmas, and I didn't mind waiting. He told me - "no I won't help you I'm much too busy, you can come back after Christmas if you want" (because I guess the special trip I made to his store, the time I took out of my day to be there wasn't as important has his time). I found the encounter to be extremely rude, and he made me feel like I was completely wasting his time by even having the audacity to step into the store. While I'd been waiting I saw a few rings I was interested in - but after he told me he wouldn't help me right now he just walked away without another word... so I had to wait ten more minutes for someone else to come show me the rings after she finished helping another customer. I loved one of the rings actually, but I wouldn't buy it here as the entire encounter just left me feeling bad. read more

I had a great experience with Nasrin at Jewels by Alan. I went to two other jewelers earlier to ask for help getting a silver engagement ring resized. Both told me somewhat brusquely "no, we don't resize silver" but didn't tell me why. At Jewels by Alan, Nasrin explained the problems with resizing silver, and how and why the setting would likely break and some of the stones melt. As someone that doesn't know much about jewelry, I appreciated Nasrin explaining things to me without judgment for not having a high-end, expensive ring. She offered to add a little metal bar to the ring so that it would fit me better, on the house. I recommend Jewels by Alan because of Nasrin's professional and kind service. I also got two watch batteries replaced there for a good price. (Interestingly enough, my experience seems to have been the opposite of another reviewer that tried to resize a silver ring.) read more
