The sightlines are great. Your view will not likely be blocked. The seats, however, are cramped and if you need to get up during a film your whole row will need to stand to let you out. It's also usually freezing, so bring a sweater.

I love the Navy Memorial so I thought I would take the chance to check out the Naval Heritage Center. The center has a few exhibits and a gift shop but I wouldn't really consider it a museum - more of a space to enrich the memorial out front. I think the primary purpose of this space is to provide some insight into this great country's naval heritage (including the Navy, Marine Corps, Merchant Marines and Coast Guard) through the exhibits and movies they play there. When I visited a movie wasn't playing unfortunately but I would like to come back and check out the documentaries, perhaps on a hot and humid sumer day. This also seems like a great place to research naval history as they seemed to have a nice, niche library for those purposes. Additionally, I understand private events can be hosted in the back room. I always appreciate a space that is dedicated to honoring our military.

Here's what you can find within the community center: 1) Playground: There's a large playground that's D.C. landmark-themed. There's the Washington Monument, Air & Space Museum, the White House, Hirshhorn, etc. with fact cards next to each one teaching kids (and their parents) about our city. The playground comes with a sheltered picnic area to escape the sun. It's a little run down and often there's litter scattered throughout the playground. Despite that, it's a fun place for kids. 2) Library: There's a library within the community center. 3) Courts/fields: There are basketball courts that are often in use in the evenings and a large field for workouts, soccer, etc. 4) Pool: From Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, the outdoor pool is open with a small waterslide. Sadly, during the 2020 season, the pool closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you get hungry, there are a few restaurants north along Benning Road NE, including a walk-up/drive thu Chick-fil-A three blocks west.

What is open is the playground and it's spacious leaving room for families to safe distance. Still, masks are required. Near the tennis courts (yes, the courts are open too) are a few D.C. statehood murals part of the mayor's campaign to make D.C. the 51st state. There's a rainbow-colored mural, a rose mural (D.C.'s flower) and a few others by local artists.

A great place to kick back and enjoy the beauty that DC has to offer. - Dog friendly: Rose Park is incredibly dog friendly, so if you dislike dogs, maybe...avoid? Haha! Luckily, most of the folks go go regularly, myself included, enjoy the pup presence! Feel free to take your pup off leash for a little run (if they are behaved). Just bring some bags to pick up after your pooch, as the park often runs out. - 2 Separate Playgrounds! Rose park features two playgrounds, one enclosed by a gate, and the other a bit more open. Both are utilized heavily by kiddos. I think that the enclosed playground is perhaps better suited to younger kids, and the more open playground is more appropriate for kids a little bit older. - Recently repaved running trail: There is a paved trail on one side of the park, great for running and connecting back to the nearby Rock Creek Parkway - View of Georgetown Row-houses: Rose Park offers a beautiful view of row houses that sit along the surrounding streets. Nestled in the heart of Georgetown, it is a great escape from the business of M street, and convenient to get to! - Meetings with neighbors and friends! Rose park is a great spot to speak to DC locals, and one of the few places where you encounter a true sense of neighborhood community. The population in Georgetown often tends to be a little older than other parts of DC, so folks have been coming to meet up with their friends in Rose park for many years. When the weather is nice, you will see people picnicking, and there is often a weekly "Yappy Hour" held on Friday, where folks bring their pups, wine, cheese, crackers, and snack while letting the dogs run around. - Market is nearby: The Rose Park Farmers Market often happens in Summer and Fall on Wednesday evenings and is set up on the basketball courts right in the park. This is always a fun and great opportunity to support local business. - Athletic facilities: There are a variety of athletic facilities set up in the park: 2 Tennis courts, a Basketball court, and a racquetball court as well! - Breathtakingly Beautiful Trees-- especially in the fall: The Ginko Trees that line the park make this a spectacular spot in the Fall. The trees are a VIBRANT yellow the likes of which I have not seen even when I lived in the northeastern states. The picture I took was actually taken mid-December of this past year, it was just stunning. - Cons: - Not so much a critique of the park, but please be careful not to step on the Ginko berries-- the trees drop them. The folks living around the park kindly do their best to sweep them off the sidewalks, but there are often so many, and when you step in them, they burst and produce a vomit-like smell, which will definitely make your shoes smell unpleasant!

The walk from Ladurée to The Phillips was only 1.1 miles, so I thought I'd walk it even though it was in the 80s. Rose Park was shaded and quiet, so it was pleasant walk through the park. I wish the path was all shaded. :) The trail needs to be repaved and it's not very wide but it was a nice respite from the heat. It's a nice park with basketball and tennis courts, a baseball diamond and a couple of playgrounds. This park was created for African American children in the 1910s and was the first desegregated playground in DC when Georgetown neighborhood kids started playing there as well. If you find yourself needing a break from the cobbled and crowded streets of Georgetown, take your coffee and food to this park and relax.

Just south of Mount Olivet Cemetery is a large recreation center in Trinidad. During the pandemic…read morethe inside if closed, but the outside gives you many reasons to go: 1) Access: There's easy street parking and a Capital Bikeshare dock in front of the recreation center. 2) Amenities: There's plenty of grass, benches, a large playground, a field and a small skate park (hard to find in the city). 3) Art: There are four D.C. statehood murals on the recreation center. If you go and get hungry, you can easily walk to Compact Supermarket, a local corner store with two murals painted on the outside.
