I started hiking with Goombay in 2023 and years later I feel like I've found my tribe. I scrolled through pictures to share and in just 1 year I have participated in hiking, camping, skying, kickball, dodgeball, adult field day and game nights. We're off to Jamaica soon as well. After relocating to the DMV I was looking for cool and interesting ways to stay active and stumbled upon goombay. Since 2019 I've been involved in their womens and coed volleyball leagues and last year got involved in several of their kickball leagues and tournaments. James "butch" is the fearless leader and very experienced at what he does.I've played kickball , hiked with the crew, went to Deep creek, and went tubing. I would recommend Goombay Adventurers. Butch, Kandy and Porsche were accommodating and fun. I attended the Caribbean Wine Festival Bus Trip in May. The ride was well organized and comfortable. There was a group chat for many attendees to communicate and ask questions. We were able to bring food, chairs, tents and drinks. It was spacious. The also had tents already set up for our trip. The meeting location was centrally located and safe (about 1 hour from PG County drop off). On the way up to Linganore we stopped at a Food Lion to pick up a few goods. When we arrived at the festival, we received our wristbands and were able to enjoy the festival. We left around 630 pm to head back to our pickup location. The price was worth it for a full day of dancing and meeting new people. If you are looking for a group to travel with this is a good option. I look forward to another adventure. read more

I have joined Goombay for several hikes and a tubing experience. I have had a blast each time and always felt I was in great hands. For far away hikes, Goombay gives you an option to meet at a close by location and get transported to the hike trail- this is much appreciated. I most recently embarked on my most challenging hike thus far with Goombay- Old Rag Mountain. This was a very strenuous hike, but I felt supported and safe throughout. Goombay provides a multitude of opportunities for Black people to come together, socialize, be active, have fun, kickback and enjoy one another. I joined a co-ed team in Goombay's kickball league. First sport of my adulthood. I enjoyed it immensely. Met new people and instantly made some really great friends. This past weekend, I went camping for the first time in over 20 years with Goombay. Despite the rain, we had an amazing time. Pool party, sunrise yoga, pajama party, glow bonfire, camp wars, just a fun-filled weekend. Looking forward to the next adventure with Goombay. read more

Awesome group-great camaraderie. Went beaching camping at Assateague with Goombay Adventurers. Got there late in the evening, immediately people jumped in to help me unload and get my site setup before dark. Had a great time - the group shared food, fun and spur of the moment activities-morning beach yoga. I was introduced to this group through kickball and I'm so glad I joined! This is an excellent Adventure group, that has provided me the opportunity to try some things I wouldn't have before. I went on my first (and second) REAL backpacking/camping trip this year. I would have never thought I could do anything remotely close to this, but I did and loved every second of it! We even cooked over a fire, and even went white water rafting! Butch is an excellent leader and very knowledgeable of all things outdoors. I've also met a lot of adventurous people like myself, so it's an all-around great time! I definitely recommend everyone expands their horizons and try something new....starting here!! read more

I participated in several of their awesome adventures to include but not limited to...white water rapids, paint ball, camping, hiking, softball, flag football, volleyball, Deep Creek, skiing, family cookouts and annual holiday gala.
