Had a little accident while walking my dog Bentley slipped in some water, fell back and hit my head hard. It was time for a visit to JFK Memorial Hospital emergency room. I was bleeding pretty good. My wife was upset. Had a towel around my head when I walked in Judah one of the nurse receptionists asked a few questions, told her I was on a blood thinners and she got after it after that. They brought a wheelchair out, took me to the back for a CAT scan of my head. No waiting around the service I received was outstanding all the staff the two nurses that helped me, Jamison and Adrian were awesome . Chet Baker the busy ER doc was fun professional and fantastic as well All the staff were super. the good news is no damage no bleeding in my head just three staples needed. I fell down stairs and fractured my back. The ambulance company said we have to take you to JFK since it is the closest hospital. I said NO that place is a dump, I want to go to Eisenhower. The paramedic said JFK has an outstanding ER, better than the other hospital and it is a Level 1 Trauma hospital. JFK is run down, the entrance to the ER looks like it's located in a 3rd world country, terrible. The ER waiting room is even worse, tiny, old chairs and honestly looks like a set in a NYC movie, crummy. The care I received was FANTASTIC! The ER is really small, 10 beds, is screaming for a remodel and more space, the staff is packed in there. The nurses, the orderly that took me for the Cat Scan, the female doctor, they were all wonderful. I was lucky to be placed in a storage room where it was quiet and not the main ER space. I had a good experience, but it's difficult to recommend a hospital that is so shabby and run down. I hope the building is remodeled and updated because the ER staff is top notch. read more

This is the worst hospital I've ever had to deal with, and I'm giving it one star. I do not recommend coming here unless it is truly an emergency and you have no other option. It's honestly sad that this is the closest hospital for many people, because the majority of the staff I encountered was unsympathetic and dismissive. During an already stressful and vulnerable time, the lack of compassion and basic bedside manner made the experience even worse. Healthcare should make patients feel safe, heard, and cared for, especially in urgent situations, and that was not the case here. I came in to John F Kennedy hospital at 1 am on August 8, with extreme stomach pain, that I had for 2 days, and wasn't going away. From the front receptionist, to the inside emergency nurses the way I was treated was like a princess. First let me start of by saying, I am very afraid of doctors and hospitals and I had kidney stones pain for three days and never went because of the fear I have of hospitals. But this pain hit differently I couldn't walk normally it as unabarreable. The nurses at ER constantly walked by to make sure i'm ok and if i'm cold and need anything then they brought me an extra blanket asked me if I like to have help walking to the restroom, just perfection I felt comfortable later I got my CT scan and found out I had ruptured appendix which needed surgery right away. Oh my gosh my biggest fear/ anxiety but the first time in my life, I felt at ease I knew everyone was special here and will take good care of me. Then they moved me to the room where I would stay until they take me in for my surgery. Now surgery time came and here my fear kicksin, the nurses took me to the surgery room prep me up for surgery as they are prepping me up they make me laugh/smile and talk like as if they were my best friends, they eased my tension, the doctor came oh my gosh he was so amazing I can tell right away he is gonna take good care of me. He told me you're gonna be ok we done these type of procedures all the time and made me feel comfertable and not afraid as i'm talking with amazing nurses and the anesthesiologist who then puts me to sleep i don't know how but the only thing i remember is i wake up with everyone smiling telling me i'm good im awake im done with the surgery and it felt like i just went to the surgery room. How amazing what a relief I felt. Litterly wanted to cry. Then they took me to my room where I stayed, and here was more amazing nurses, who spent there time not only making sure that i'm ok constantly, but i'm taking care of. I can't say more but how thankful I was that I ended up at this hospital as I live in CA and visited Palm Springs for a Birthday. I sat in the emergency room for four hours in a black wooden chair with my empty IV fluid sack slung over my chair. While I waited I conveniently received " an estimate " of $300.00 which I paid on the spot. I was left in this wooden chair the entire time and no one came to check on me. The nurse offered the man next to be a warm blanket ; he declined but I asked to have his. None was offered to me and none was brought. I had to walk to the rest room dragging my empty iv bag behind me wrapped around my arm. The doctor was helpful and got me a diagnosis and started my road to feeling better. I was very sick and in some pain. The billing department was the highlight of my poor experience. They were never helpful and ignored my questions. Never ever going here again. Being busy does not give you permission to treat your patients without courtesy and respect. Zero stars. My account balance is zero but I had to make so many unnecessary calls just to make them do their jobs. read more

I went into John f Kennedy emergency room in Indio California after having a back surgery my symptoms had returned and they were extremely rude throwing paperwork at me grab me by the arm to conduct me down the corridor instead of walking like normal telling me they couldn't wait to get off work because they were done dealing with me due to the fat I had neuropathy and was having trouble moving. Emergency room care. Our hospital here in Blythe California has closed its doors I just found out I have to go back to John f Kennedy hospital for back x-rays or something to find out what's going on if I'm treated that way again when I get there I will not tolerate it I will go directly to the medical board I've already talked to a lawyer because I don't want to go to your hospital but I have to. read more

We have been waiting an hour and the staff says the pharmacy needs to walk it over so we must wait. Wow - what an amazing experience from start to finish! My mother came in through ER with pneumonia and pulmonary embolism in both lungs. Staff were exceptional - full of gentle, compassionate care combined with skilled and efficient medical care! After having exhausted medical options of care, comfort care was exceptional! BEWARE, THIS HOSPITAL IS THE WORST!! My 19 yo daughter just moved to the area two weeks ago and this is the only medical facility she could find that would take our insurance. She has been there twice now. Last week, she was mis-diagnosed and yesterday was there for over 5 hours! The staff was so rude to her, she called me (I am almost 600 miles away) crying! The paperwork she was sent home with had inaccurate information on her diagnosis from her last visit and even her reason for needing care. We hope she never has to come back to this extremely unprofessional office ever again! If you have any other option besides this place, GO THERE! I had heard negative things about JFK Hospital but decided to give it a chance when my 4-year-old daughter was injured. That was a huge mistake I deeply regret. From the moment we arrived, the staff was cold, unfriendly, and completely lacking in empathy. We were treated like an inconvenience rather than a family in distress. The Physician Assistant who gave us the results actually laughed while telling us that our little girl had a dislocated arm and a broken bone. Laughing -- as if it was some kind of joke. I was absolutely shocked at the lack of professionalism and basic human decency. To make things worse, they did nothing to treat her. Nothing. They told me to go find an orthopedic doctor on my own and sent us home with our daughter still in pain. No cast, no real help at all. I couldn't believe they sent her home with a broken bone and another dislocated bone. In addition, while I was there there was a man expressing he was having suicidal thoughts and the staff was very dismissive and treating him like he was an inconvenience and rolling their eyes. The man ended up leaving because of the treatment, I hope he is safe. This is beyond unacceptable. This hospital failed my daughter when she needed care the most. We ended up driving 1.5 hours to Loma Linda hospital where she was given the appropriate treatment - a real hospital with friendly staff and organized system. The night of February 1, I was taken by ambulance to emergency with extreme vertigo and vomiting caused by Meniere's disease in my ear. I waited 4 hours for them to get me a prescription, which was the exact same one I was taking that was not working. I told **three** staff members this, and this is what they brought me! I told off the male emergency room doctor for such sloppy care. He was patronizing and condescending after I pointed out his error in prescribing me this same medicine. Adding to injury was the muscular male charge nurse who tried to intimidate me for speaking up. THIS WAS MY FIRST AND LAST TIME I WILL GO TO JFK. I am back to Eisenhower permanently, even though it's 3 miles farther away. On a positive note, the female RN who treated me was very calming in face of repeated stupidity. Oh, and the final insult was that they requested my $90 co-pay for the ambulance while I was prone and dizzy on a hospital bed. This was the worst experience. read more

My nonverbal mentally disabled daughter with epilepsy went to the emergency room today as she has many times throughout her 19 years of life. As always, she was given attentive care. I also witnessed the treatment of a homeless woman that was covered in soot and lovingly cared for with no advocate as I was for my daughter. County hospitals serve everyone. One visit a few years ago my daughter had gone into cardiac arrest, and they saved her life. It may not have a pleasant esthetic with concierge service. However, they do their jobs very well with the utmost of care for everyone with the tools and means they are provided. Update: July 31, 2024... JFK Hospital Indio. My mom again didn't feel well, pain in stomach. She said she wanted me to take her to Urgent Care. Unfortunately it was after 8pm so I called Paramedics. I didn't want her waiting in the ER for hours. The ER wouldn't let me in. I went home and they told me they would call. They called to let me know they ended up admitting her for a bladder infection. The next morning August 1, 2024. I called and called. No answer in her room. I assumed she was having tests done. I finally got her. She asked for McDonald's, so I brought her dinner. When I got there her head was bruised, cut and swollen. WTF? I asked what happened. She said she was in her room and pushing the nurses button for HELP GETTING TO THE BATHROOM...NO ONE CAME! She had to go so she attempted to get to the toilet herself. That was all she remembered. From what I gathered she fell or passed out, hit her head, face ... I yelled down the hall for the nurse..(note: if you yell really freaking loud and cuss, they come) I asked WTF happened and WHY THE HELL didn't anyone contact me? I nurse or aid told me she was pushing the TV remote not the call button. So I asked my mom to show me the button she was pushing...she showed me the correct RED nurse call button. They had no excuse why they did call to inform me. You could see she was NOT OK. The next day, again I call and call. No answer in her room...I'm thinking same ole shit. Around 7pm on August 2, 2024 I get a call from the hospital telling me my mother CODED THIS MORNING, yes AM, they revived her and she was in ICU. AGAIN Why the hell would you wait 10-12 hours and NOT CALL THE FAMILY??? (Note: this is because they are freaking heartless, negligent, idiots...trying to cover their asses) I asked if she was conscious...she was not. As you can imagine I was NOT OK. I'm still not ok. When I got there, the doctor came in to tell me she was very ill, AND it wasn't the fall that caused this condition...he reidderated this at least 5 times in 5 minutes. I asked what happened to cause her to code but he had no answer.... SURPRISE!!! (But it definitely wasn't her fall and swollen head) I said she had a stomach ache, bladder infection and your staff let her fall, hit her head and code. They asked me to sign a DNR. I begrudgingly did. I went home ( I too live in Indio) A little after midnight I received a call, she wasn't doing well and I should come to the hospital. They could not give her anymore meds to keep her blood pressure up...they already gave her the max. They told me to park in the front and come through the ER because it's closer to ICU. I did go to ER, told them I was told to come through the ER, and some ASSHOLE doctor told me NO, I had to drive around to the back of the hospital and go through maternity. I was pissed, drove as fast as I could, parked...and as soon as I was getting out of the car got the call my mom passed away. I wasn't with her when she died. I called the county coroner's office and told them the story. I asked for an autopsy. A few weeks later they told me she died of natural causes.... something with her heart. Funny she had just had an EKG less than a month before she died. Her doctor didn't say she had any issues... It's now been just over one year since JFK NEGLECTED my mom. I had an attorney but they said it's hard to PROVE negleglince, and the year time frame has now passed....so all I can do is share my story with you. If your ill...go elsewhere. read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. I went in vomiting, and extremely dehydrated. I was given an IV and anti-nausea and told I could go home. No information on what was going on, i had to ask about my labs and they said everything was fine and I was free to go. So I left. They called in prescriptions but told me no information about what they were and how to use them. They then prescribed max dose ibuprofen which can cause even more stress on your stomach so i never took that and don't know why they would prescribe it. My bill was 13k for this. Then they explained insurance would cover some after my deductible but i would have to pay a copay, i told them i had no copay after my deductible was met and they corrected and said yeah, no copay. They didn't know what they were talking about and when i asked for an itemized receipt they wouldn't give me one. Less than 24 hours later, I had no control over my bowels and was losing a lot of fluids. They had prescribed Imodium which i later found out would help but they didn't explain anything on how much to take or when i had to look that up on my own. So I went back and explained i had no control over my bowels and I needed to be by a bathroom, they sat me in a chair far from any bathroom and gave me another iv which was attached to the wall then came over with a shot of promethazine which they didn't explain anything about, I had to ask before they gave it to me. They did more labs. They said to ask one of them if i had to go to the bathroom but i was sat far from any nurses and had to get up and bring my iv bag with me to find a nurse to go to the bathroom. They came back 2 hours later and said i was free to go, no explanation of what was going on yet again. I had to advocate for myself every step of the way and ask specifically what was wrong. They finally came back and said it was gastroenteritis that could have multiple causes and that i needed to let it run its course. I was not even given a bill this time or explanation on costs so we will see what bill i get in the mail. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The nurses were nonchalant and uncaring and speaking poorly about a old woman who had lost her bowels in the bed as well as speaking poorly of other patients. This is the reason I hate the American healthcare system. read more

I was flown into JFK hospital in Indio from Big Bear Valley hospital with a coronary emergency. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and cheerful attentive care I received. I felt like I was competent hands, which I was, and everyone was so nice, I almost did not want to leave! It must be a nice place to work, everyone seems so happy. Husband went to ER last night with chest pains and his arm and hand were hurting. Since he is a heart patient they took him in immediately for an EKG. It was normal so not a heart attack.Then they took blood and chest X-rays. They told us to wait for results but after waiting another hour we checked at triage and they told us to wait another 2-4 hours. We told them to call us if results showed anything of concern. The waiting room was 99% Hispanics. The security guard walked over to me, the only white person in the room, and asked me to stand outside because the chairs were for patients only. I said no. We watched him. He didn't go over to anyone else asking them to leave when every single patient had a non patient sitting with them. That is REVERSE DISCRIMINATION! We were appalled and ready to ask for the hospital administrator to complain. That is why we dislike your hospital because they prioritize Hispanics over whites plain and simple. read more

Avoid giving birth here at all costs!!! The negligence of the staff nearly cost the life of my newborn baby. The staff is super unprofessional and unreliable. Didn't answer my calls for distress when my baby wasn't breathing- I had to RUN to the nurses station hours after giving birth. There is no NICU, there is no lactation consultant. The labor beds are so uncomfortable it was the worse part of labor. They rushed my epidural when I didn't need it yet and it wore off before delivering and I felt everything. The food they served me after birth was disgusting and cold and had no nutrition. The nursing staff is either very young and inexperienced or very old and rude. Please Go anywhere else and fight your insurance on it later! My first time giving birth here was an absolute nightmare from hell that ended in trauma. read more

I went in with a blocked esophagus and was taken in out in a hallway where I was given an IV and a couple medications and than was told their GI specialist was on vacation and I had to go to a different hospital. I recently needed emergent medical care and something told me to go to JFK. I am so glad I listened. While the ER was extremely busy they got me back and seen immediately. All the nurses, doctors, and surgical staff were kind, informative, and very skilled. Between their care and the many prayers of family and friends my experience was not filled with fear and anxiety but with care and compassion. Worst excuse for an ER I've ever experienced. I have two sprained ankles and they didn't even wrap my ankles. Even after I asked. I wobbled out. They sent me out without anything done except for x-rays. Even urgent care wraps. I just sent over my contact info as instructed. I went to the ER at Eisenhower on Thursday and they found a fracture in my right foot that JFK did not. They were amazing and compassionate, unlike JFK, iced both my feet, wrapped my left sprained ankle and fit me for a walking boot cast on my right foot. JFK REALLY DROPPED THE BALL. Shame on them. Never heard back from JFK. Looks like I'll need to make a more formal complaint. NEVER HEARD BACK FROM JFK AFTER THE WORST TREATMENT ON EARTH RECEIVED FROM THEIR ER. Never go there. My husband had a stroke, and his care was excellent, and as a result he had a full recovery. I cannot rate the facility any higher because the facility was filthy throughout. There was dried blood from other patients on the cart in the ED, there was obvious dirt throughout the facility, in the ICU when you flushed the toilet in the bathroom dust came out from behind. They give report in the nurses station, where every patient can hear everything about themselves and every other patient. They were unable to provide a proper vegan diet. And the facility was generally run down throughout. The facility has been owned by Tenant for over 4 decades, everything about the condition of the facility is their responsibility! The people in the East Valley deserve better. read more

I have never in my life experienced such a disrespectful and rude staff AND doctor!!! Place was filthy! I had just got to town to visit my family for the holidays, I am not from around here. I have a special needs son who has epilepsy amongst other things and he had been sick all week. I took him to his regular doctor a few days prior and they said it was just a cold, well when we got out of the car today his ear was leaking pus/fluid and blood ALOT and had a 103 fever. I rushed him to the nearest ER and the triage nurses were absolutely so rude and disrespectful! I tried explaining to her what was going on with giving a little back story that my son does have epilepsy and is on medication to control it but with high fevers and sickness hes more at risk of a seizure, she cuts me off and say hela rudely WHY ARE YOU HERE? I then stated why and she asked if i gave him any medicine? I said yes Tylenol and she said sarcastically WOWWW what a good mom! You are doing such a great job! I was honestly shocked and didnt respond and she tells me to go in the back and the doctor will be right with me, Im basically in a tiny hallway with another person 1 foot from me and can see and hear everything going on, blood on the floor and curtains. He then asks me why Im here so I was telling him exactly what I told the nurse and mid sentence just walks away from me 4-5 feet and is in the doorway of the other room(no clue why, nobody called him) maybe 20 seconds later he comes back and says WHY ARE YOU HERE???? I told him and expressed my concern about my son being at risk for a seizure and they are so bad he will have to be sedated for them to stop so if they can please prescribe something for his infection so he can heal. He tells me hes has an ear infection and will get amoxicillin, doesnt acknowledge any seizure concerns. A LVN nurse came in and gave him Ibuprofen and said I have your discharge paperwork and she'll give it to me up front, I asked her where they were sending the medication because Im not from around here and she said she will check and said i will meet you up front. The doctor comes up to me and says a basic plan and says I know you're concerned sith febrile seizures but those are very uncommon and I was like my son was DIAGNOSED WITH EPILEPSY YEARS AGO!!!! He is on medication to control it but can have break through ones with sickness, he was like OHHH??? Literally like he wasnt listening to anything I said prior. So i walk out and go back to the nursing station and the LVN was gone, no where to be found, so I asked the triage nurse where she went and she said she didnt know and she'll go check. She came back and said rudely THEY ARE GETTING YOUR PAPERWORK TOGETHER! So I continue to stand off to the side and just wait, a few minutes go by and I asked her if she knew where they sent his medication and is the paperwork something I need to sign or is it just an aftercare summary? And she said OHHH YOU WANT TO GO HOME???? WE GOT YOU OUT OF HERE IN 51 MINUTES, THATS RECORD TIME! She was extremely rude! I just ignored it and just stepped to the side and continued to wait, she said again very rude THE DOCTOR IS GETTING YOUR PAPERWORK! I ignored her and just continued to wait then she raises her voice and stood up and said DID YOU HEAR ME??? I was like oh Im sorry what was that and she said very slow and rude THE DOCTOR IS GETTING YOUR PAPERWORK!!!!!! I just said ok! A few moments later she comes back with the paperwork and circles where the pharmacy its being sent multiple times and so hard the pen rips through the paper and then she told me to sign this other paper. I signed and left! I am so shocked! I have never in my life experienced a nurse this disrespectful, the doctor at the end was nice once he realized what I was saying and understood why I was so concerned! I went there because as a type 1 diabetic for 44 years and without insulin, I needed to be checked. It took forever to see a doctor whose name I didn't get. He sent someone to check my blood sugar, Noah, who was great. 4 hours later, as my sugar level was high, they finally gave me insulin. The doctor had my urine checked and said I had something I've never heard of and wanted to keep me there overnight. When I said I was not going to do that, he said that I was dumb. Then I asked for a prescription for insulin but he only gave me one. I take two insulins but refused to give me the other. It was a nightmare. There were 5 times I was sent back to the waiting room. One time someone wanted an EKG but the woman who attached the things 3 times said they were not making contact so, even though she did all of that, she did not to the test, took away my fluids bad, and sent me back to where I was. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I came here after attending Coachella where I collapsed due to severe exhaustion and dehydration. I was treated by the medics there, but over exerted myself on the way back to the car where it happened a second time, except this time my legs were shaking involuntarily and my breathing was extremely slow, I couldn't feel my heartbeat. We went to this hospital which was the nearest emergency room. I very clearly needed immediate care or else I could possibly die. The first time I collapsed all I got was a bag of IV fluid and it revived me, so I told the nurse, crying, "Please, I just need fluids, please just give me an IV." She gave me so much attitude and said "I just put an order in. You're going to have to wait." ??? WAIT? I could literally die right now, and you're telling me to WAIT? Wtf does it mean to put an ORDER in for a bag of saline fluid? That is the most basic thing to have in a hospital. When another nurse was checking my vitals, after she found out I had been to Coachella, she very rudely said "Oh my god" and rolled her eyes. From that moment I knew they weren't taking me seriously because I was one of the festival-goers. We waited for an hour for any type of care and got nothing. No IV, nothing but rudeness and questions about my insurance. Isn't my life more important than that right now? Can't THAT wait? It felt like they were prioritizing their paycheck more than my LIFE. We waited so long I almost went back there and hooked MYSELF up to the IV fluids. Clearly I wasn't getting any care there and I could have died on their watch, so we left and sped off to a different hospital. This hospital is the worst I've ever been to with the RUDEST staff that does NOT care about their patients. Please DO NOT waste your time here SAVE A LIFE AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I am appalled at the behavior from these nurses and other staff. Everyone there needs to be FIRED. A word of advice: DON'T GO INTO THE MEDICAL FIELD IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT PEOPLE. I don't know how these nurses sleep at night. Quit your job and find something else. Healthcare is obviously not for you. EDIT: I received a bill in the mail from JFK Memorial for over $2,700. Charges: 1. EKG: $1,257 I was provided an EKG service but was never told the results. The fact that a less-than-five-minute scan is $1,257 is astounding to me. All they do is put a few stickers on my torso, look at the screen, and call it a day. This should be $50 at most. 2. Pharmacy: $152 I have absolutely no idea where this came from, as I wasn't provided any pharmaceuticals whatsoever. No medications, no IV, absolutely nothing. The only thing I can think of is the cup that they had me pee in, to which I say, $152 for a plastic cup? 3. Emergency Room: $1,295 This is another ridiculous charge as I was never even given my own room in the emergency department. The most they gave me was literally a small bed behind the counter of the front desk where the triage/welcome nurses sit. I should absolutely not be charged for this and I would argue that this was a violation of HIPAA laws as people in the emergency waiting room could literally see me over the counter. I will update this post again after I request an itemized bill from the hospital. For reference on the bill amount, a few years ago, I had a kidney infection which had me end up in the emergency room. Multiple nurses and doctors were helping me, I was given various medications as well as a CAT scan. Plus, I was given my own hospital room. The bill came out to only $700. Why is it, when I go to THIS hospital and am literally provided ZERO services whatsoever while every person working there are the rudest people I have ever encountered, I am charged almost THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS? Currently a patient, this is the most disgusting dirty poorly run hospital I have ever been in. I'm a diabetic with an insulin pump they refused to let me use, and then proceed to give me approximately half the dosage they should have, and are wondering why my sugar hasn't gone down. I also have congestive heart failure and was not seen by a cardiologist. I was told there wasn't an endocrinologist available (been waiting on that request for over 10 hrs.) Finally 7 hrs after requesting Any Doctor at all to see me. I get permission to use my insulin pump again, and the nurse refused to take note of the bolus I took, which is against all procedures I ever experienced and frankly could be dangerous.
