My best friend, Portion Control, and I rarely pass up a hot dog. Such was the case when we stopped for gas in Girard. Little did we realize that we were stopping twice for gas. The Jib Jab Hot Dog Shoppe is definitely a novelty. Prices are ridiculously low at $1.68 / dog. We each ordered two....Portion Control had one each w cheese and sauerkraut. Talk about a roadside disaster! What started as a promising pit stop on our road trip quickly devolved into an absolute nightmare. The kitchen was a full-blown freak show, with the cooks practically brawling while trying to make orders. But the real horror show began when one of the cooks--a girl--grabbed an order she was making and ate it right in front of us. Before I could even process that, a huge guy, who I assume was another cook, bodily threw her out of the kitchen and then proceeded to finish eating the food himself! I was beyond disgusted. Sharing body fluids with strangers, let alone the people preparing my meal, is not on my menu. I lost my appetite instantly. My untouched plate sat there as I paid and practically ran out. This isn't just bad service; it's a major health hazard. Eating on the line, above customers' food, with no hairnets, no aprons, and cooks literally fighting and eating the orders themselves? That's a serious violation of every health code imaginable and a complete betrayal of the trust between a restaurant and its patrons. For an old semi blind guy, the menu was hard to see.   Service - 5 stars: Very quick ordering and friendly servers. While back in OH, we stopped at Jib Jab for lunch. Haven't been back for awhile and it made me so happy. It was delicious as it was growing up in Youngstown. It's nice that they have stayed true to their recipe and values. It's also hard to believe their prices are still extremely reasonable. I had two chili cheese hot dogs that were still absolutely delicious. I now live in Pittsburgh and no hot dog ever comes close. Apparently the owners sold it relatively recently and the new owners made it a corporate entity and CHANGED the recipe! So many people in Northeast Ohio group up with this hot dog shoppe and this is truly an unforgiveable tragedy. Not only that, the new owners don't respond to any questions or comments about this. They do not care. They sacrificed a hometown favorite for over 70 years for profits. Shame on them. If you live in the area let them know your disdain for the new recipe. Where to begin??? This place was sold a couple years back and has gone down hill ever since in my opinion. The chili sauce ain't quite like it used to be. The large fries are burnt or old 8 out of 10 times and the portion size has been reduced significantly. A busy busy place when everyone is home for the holidays- which got me excited to see what the rave was about. Friends who are from the area swear by this place. A seat yourself, old diner style restaurant with speedy service and a menu placed on the wall for everyone to see. We ordered a 20-pack of hot dogs with chili, cheese, and onions. I was not the biggest fan of the cheese, it was almost like a runny nacho cheese. Everything else though was delicious! I was full after 1 but pushed myself to have 3. I also had root beer served in a throw away foam cup (they had no Dr. Pepper sadly). We had a order of fries as well which tasted just like my grandma's freshly cut homemade fries. A bit of a nostalgic stop for me. I was in town for a ceremony remembering fallen police Officer Justin Leo, and went to Jib Jab for an early dinner. A couple chili cheese dogs, and some chili cheese fries did the trick. Growing up in western PA, I grew up with Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe, and this is almost as good. For those of you looking for traditional chili - you need to understand this is a chili "sauce" and is very common in this part of the country (western pa/eastern OH). Well.....it's sad to say but since this staple in my little hometown changed ownership, the quality and quantity have gone down thus earning them one less star then my original review several years ago. The fry portions are a bit smaller however the price went up. The chili cheese dogs are still pretty good as the new owners are still using the same sauce and cheese recipe but on yesterdays visit, two of the buns were starting to stale on the top edges. I will say that their sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches are still on point even though there are many who complained that they changed the kind of bun they previously used for years but I don't find this to be a problem. Again, the prices on these also went up. The old fashioned milkshakes are still fantastic. The prices have nothing to do with the one less star rating rather it was the smaller portions and the lack of freshness that did it. I will continue to frequent this place as I have for over thirty years now and maybe they'll earn a star or two back. You never know. read more

We have heard about this place from friends and were out here from Boardman and because of the Quarantine not many places were open. We used their drive through. We got the chili cheese dogs and one of their cheeseburgers and a side of fries. The hotdogs were good especially for the price. Paired well with the chili and the cheese. Stumbled upon this hot dog shoppe on my way back home and I absolutely fell in love with the chili! The chili, which I had on my hot dogs and fries, was delicious.
