While some things may have changed, the hot dogs are still really good and their prices are really really low. I love the counter seating, the staff is usually as attentive as I want them to be too. It's worth saying that none of this takes away from how good the food is or how wonderful the staff continues to be. But some adjustments to the seating--more space, moveable chairs, and more inclusive options--would make a big difference in comfort and accessibility for everyone who wants to enjoy a meal here. A friend told me about this place. He raved about it so me, friends and family made the journey to Warren. Love the old style snake counter. Place has that 1950s dinner vibe. We sat at the bar and the waiter was friendly. The beef hotdog was good and the coney sauce was okay. The sauce was a touch sweet for me but everyone enjoyed it. But it's the soggy mess that they are trying to pass off as fries that broke my heart. Their fries used to rival fair fries. Not anymore. I recognize that help is difficult to get post pandemic, but it shouldn't be as difficult to place an order as it is. This place has definitely gone downhill with the new owners. I think my bill was less than $6! That can't be right... but it was. If price is a thing, this is your place. The hot dog was ok, I do prefer an all beef hotdog. However, the hotdog did have burnt edges, they know how to properly cook a hotdog! The fries were made in house, which is what I prefer. I don't know what all the fuss is about with people on here saying the new owners "ruined the place". It's a hot dog shop, and honestly the two times I've went were during lunch--im didn't wait longer than 10 minutes either time for my take out order and the chili dogs were good, the fries were good, and quite frankly the burgers were way better than I expected. Only thing I'll say is I wish they had to go malt vinegar packets for the fries because they are hand cut or "fair fries" as some call them. Also I'm not a big fan of the fake liquid cheese. Throw some shredded cheese on those franks and this would have been a 5 star review. My parents live on the way back from Warren (Solon) so I even dropped off some dogs to them. The sanitation was top of the line and I saw employees paying attention to their proximity to each other as well. I ordered 20 Hot Dogs you guys... and they had everything ready after only two minutes of waiting there. For 20 dogs and 5 family fries, it was only $47 - oh yeah, and I got 8 cups of cheese sauce because THE CHEESE SAUCE IS THE REASON I CAME HERE. Seriously. The hot dogs aren't necessarily super special but the chili and the cheese is to die for and that's what I love about this place so much. Their fresh cut French fries are very satisfying and even though I had a long drive home, I threw them into the air fryer for about 5-7 minutes and they were so perfect. Dunked these suckers in that incredible cheddar rich creamy sauce and I was in the money. Well worth the drive out to support a place I cannot and will not see go out of business. Depending on the time of day, you always could get a slightly overcooked batch of sauce here-- and that is true for any restaurant that makes their sauces in large batches. A light smokey flavor is apparent, no where near overpowering. Being that the dog is chicken based helps keep prices low. The star of the dogs in my opinion is the cheddar and sauerkraut dog. It is a great combination and I'm not exactly a huge fan of cheddar or sauerkraut, but at the Hot Dog Shoppe, I think it's the only way to enjoy their dogs. The Cheeseburger: Skip it. The buns were good. The cheese was good but the burger. It reminded me of a gas station /7/11 burger in terms of that odd disagreeable aftertaste. It's hard to describe but those who had them know what I'm talking about. Fries: I only get their chili cheese fries. They were ok. Many swear by their chili it's decent. Not that much spice and its almost like a thick liquid when dressed with the fries. I think next time I'm going to opt for just the cheese fries next time so I can been judge the texture of the fries. The layout of the joint is very casual, clean, funky and retro. I guess you have to be from the area to like this place. My hubby grew up in Niles and the Hot Dog Shoppee was a staple in his house. I hate it! And I love hot dogs. To me the place is absolutely dirty looking. It always looks like it could use a good cleaning. The chili is gross, the dogs are gross and the cheese tastes funny. The only thing I will order is the chicken noodle soup. Its usually bland. You have to add a ton of salt and pepper just to taste. The soda is always flat tasting. We go here at least twice a month maybe more for the last 10 years. Did I mention my hubby loves this place? Yeah, well, I suck it up for him. Every time I'm in there the staff seems to be in a rush. The food is quick, but how good can it be cooked getting it that fast? Just curious. For some reason, that I haven't figured out yet there is always a wait to sit down and eat that slop! One thing, you do get your moneys worth. My hubby gets the same thing, 4 chili dogs with cheese, onion, sauerkraut, a chili cheeseburger and a large order of fries and of course a coke. And with what I get its always under $15. You could take your family there and fill them up for cheap. I don't think the prices have changed much, if at all, in the 10 years I have been going there. She didn't like it and wouldn't even eat all of her food. I've determined this: It just has to be something you grow up on and have that taste for. Being an outsider, it's just not great. I love chili sauce and chili dogs so when visiting this area, I knew I had to try the Hot Dog Shoppe as I had heard it was good. The place is very retro/old school. Parking is easy and abundant. You seat yourself which is slightly challenging as it is hard to see open seating. So after walking around for a second, we grabbed a spot, shortly before a line started around 4pm. Our table was dirty as it seems like they try to turn them over too quick and don't really clean them, but rather just pick up the dirty plates. It took our server a minute to get over to us as she was busy and then our food took awhile, which she did apologize for. The food was cheap. A chili dog, chili cheese dog, chili fries and root beer cost $5.58 with tax! So for the food, the chili sauce is just meh. Not a lot of flavor and a bit bland. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Since the new owners took over they promised nothing would change. Well, the food was the first to be changed. The fries aren't the same. They taste frozen. The hot dogs themselves are very small and their sauce which was a trademark for that place absolutely sucks now. They upped the prices for everything which a little bit is understandable as the years go on but almost doubled?? NO!!! This restaurant has been a staple of this community and literally the go to place back in the day.
