Omg worst taco shop I've been to in years. Stood there for a good five minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. Guy was too busy watching a video in his phone. Ordered three rolled tacos with guacamole, super easy. Guy was washing dishes , dried his hands, threw 3 tacos in a pan and placed them under the broiler 3 minutes max. Took them out and splashed some avocado on top and then instead of using the tongs grabbed the cheese and threw it in top. Disgusting. Walked out side and threw the whole thing in the trash. Wtf dude? Guess you didn't get your food safety certification. I'll never return. Too many places in my area to choose from. read more

Accessibility: there's a drive thru or you can park and come inside...there is accessible parking in front of the store as well as a ramp to get up to the building. The doors to enter are pull doors. The only issue I had is that it was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to hear the person speaking through the drive-through box when they ask what you want. It was also pretty dark. I've been coming here for 5+ years and this place never misses. The breakfast burritos are huge and definitely enough to feed 2 people. The portions are great and the quality of the meat is delicious; the red and green salsa are the best. I've been going through the drive thru recently and it does take a little longer but not bad. This place used to be my go to for awesome breakfast burritos. I just moved back to escondido after 5 years and was excited to get one again. I'm so disappointed...the quality has gone way down. I got my usual from before; eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese and cilantro. What I received was a verrryyy dry burrito. Raw potatoes(french fries), severely overcooked bacon, and barely a trace of egg. If you know of the original spot on east valley parkway then you know Jilberto's is amongst the best taco shops. However, with that being said, this 2nd location is a hit or miss. It is located inside the AM/PM gas station right off of the 78 freeway. The handful of times I've been here I usually go through the drive-thru. Some nights they are backed up and take awhile to get your order and other nights no wait. Or you can go inside and order. They do have tables outside for you to eat. Food: as for the quality, for some reason this location is inconsistent. Meat at times in a carne asada burrito could be dry. As for their carne asada fries, sometimes more sour cream than guacamole. And their hot sauce sometimes taste watered down. Service: sometimes could be fast or sometimes could be slow. if it's slow you could be waiting in your car for awhile during a busy night. the time i went inside to order, they had only 2 workers there and waitied 15mins just for a couple items. Overall: the reason I come to this location is because it is closer to where I live. The original location of Jilberto's can be far to get to and for those who are not in the area. i always compare this to their original location on east valley parkway and sometimes i say i should of driven the extra miles to get better quality food. I come to this spot once every two weeks when I work in San Marcos. I order the rolled tacos but have also stopped here many times with my brothers after a concert late at night. We've had carne asada burritos, carne asada fries and they are all pretty decent for a place inside an AM PM. The staff is friendly and the prices are good. The only thing I always have to remind them is to give me more salsa but then again that's usually all Mexican places lol . I consider myself a nice guy, and I've yet to give any 1 star reviews, however, this place earned it in spades. I had read prior reviews about the wait but thought, I'll give it a shot and decided to time it for sake of proving the other people wrong. Big fat nope. I ordered rolled tacos, a burrito, and a side of fries. I waited patiently with a crying baby in the car, who's normally a saint in drive they'd, and the total wait was 27 minutes. The food wasn't that good or bad, just mediocre drive thru. The issue is that about a third of the way thru, at the 12 minute mark I asked what was going on and received a shoulder shrug and "it should be out soon". Well, 20+ minutes later isn't soon unless you're a Buddhist Monk, and I am not. I just hope people will heed my advice and not follow my example of subjecting myself to cruel and unusual punishment,what I'm calling the Jilbertos Hunger Games. Got the Nachos Supreme Al Pastor after a fun memorial day yesterday. It's surprising that the nachos were exactly $7. There were many other items that had straight dollar amounts. I guess it makes for easier counting, but it is a small premium. Smart way to include the tip I suppose. The nachos were good but not great. I think the use crema instead of sour cream, which I like. The salsa had a good amount of spice and flavor. Guac was good. I think the things I didn't like were the excessive amount of refried beens, too salty meat, and slightly chewy tortilla chips (overfried). I'd be willing to try something else on the menu. Same owners as the other Jilberto's locations in Escondido and Pauma Valley, hence, you should already know what to expect -if you've been to one, you've been to all of them. I came to this particular location because of its proximity to my work (I was on the clock, shhh..) and because of the fact that it has a drive-thru. It is the only Jilberto's out of the three that has a drive thru. Drive thru comes in handy when you're craving that deliciously greasy Carne Asada Fries fix at 1 or 2 in the AM and you're not trying to get out of your car for whatever reason... My favorite things to get here are the carne asada burrito, carne asada fries -worth its weight in gold, or calories..you get what I'm trying to convey. The rolled tacos are pretty bomb as well. What I didn't like so much was the Pollo Asado (grilled chicken) burrito, to me it looked like a chicken fajitas burrito. I usually don't complain about things like this but when it's labeled as pollo asado burrito, I expect nothing but grilled chicken breast, pico de gallo, and maybe some guacamole wrapped in that flour tortilla. It's not that I don't like vegetables, but when you aggregate such a copious amount of grilled bell peppers into the chicken, the protein ratio diminishes drastically, see I'm a protein junkie, and I was trying to get my protein fix. Solid spot. Most of the time the food is super fresh and the guy who's always at the drive through is really cool. I usually come a little after midnight because that's when I'm off work, and there's never a line. It can get busy during the day though. I would say the downfall for me is definitely the amount of homeless people around the building it's self. Kinda weird ordering your food late at night at the drive though when there are like 3 homeless people just sitting there. Another thing is sometimes you just get plain out not so fresh carne asada. When you get home and you're really excited to dig into your burrito only to realize that they got your order wrong. :| This place is expensive and service was super slow. Ordered a bean, egg, cheese, and potato burrito. Asked them to repeat the order back when we pulled up to the pick-up window to ensure the order was correct. It took forever to get our food, so we assumed they got our order wrong the first time and had to re-make it. After all of that, they STILL got the order wrong. What I got was an egg, cheese, potato burrito, no beans. So infuriating after paying $18 for two breakfast burritos and horchata and waiting for so long that they can't get a simple order correct.
