Title: Irresponsible, Incompetent, and Completely Unaccountable - Avoid at All Costs If I could give zero stars, I would. Jim Bennett Plumbing in Tallahassee left us with a literal disaster. Their crew not only broke our septic system, they also abandoned the job, leaving our property in a condition that was uninhabitable. No running water. No working toilets. Raw incompetence. And as if that weren't enough, they refused to return our calls for three days. We were left scrambling--without basic utilities--and ultimately had to pay out-of-pocket for an outside electrician and another plumbing company just to make the home livable again. Jim Bennett Plumbing showed no professionalism, no accountability, and absolutely no concern for the safety or well-being of their customers. We trusted them with our home. Customer service is horrible. Wouldn't provide service for a tankless water heater which the installed in 2021 and kept referring to the unit as a lanai. Took 8 calls just to get someone on the phone. Service Tech went to to house without contacting me to discuss the issue and did work which wasn't needed but didn't address the issue that needed to be resolved. Horrible experience. I don't recommend using this company. I'd give zero stars if it was an option. I had to call a different company to replace the hot water heater as I couldn't get the technician to come back out to the house. read more

When we did a home remodel several years ago, our contractor chose Jim Bennett to do the bathroom work. We selected several very expensive new fixtures offered by Bennett. A week later my wife found the identical fixtures at Lowes for less than $100.00 and told the contractor to use the Lowes fixtures, instead. Later, after the job was finished, we noticed water dripping from a pipe coming out of the bathroom. It was the shower drain. The contractor called Jim Bennett and was told there was an additional charge for connecting the new plumbing to the septic system. The contractor got it done and we scratched Jim Bennett off our list of plumbers to call when we have problems. read more

Please PLEASE do yourself a favor and DO NOT call Jim Bennett Plumbing - DO NOT do business with them, DO NOT entrust your time and your home to them. I have never worked with a more incompetent company in my entire life.  Originally I called them after I had a flood in my townhouse, where my upstairs bathroom leaked through the ceiling into my downstairs area, destroying so much of my house.  At first one person came out, and he started by trying to take off the toilets in both upstairs bathrooms, and then started snaking in one, and said he couldn't get it to go. It took 2 days and 4 individuals to realize they spent the first day and a half snaking the wrong pipe, and then they said they repaired everything and it was good to go. However, they never tested anything, and as time went by, I knew something was still off and not fixed.  As the rebuilding was about to begin, I knew I needed them to come back and figure out what was still wrong - I called and got a bit of a runaround, and the original day someone was scheduled, they missed the scheduled window, and I needed to reschedule for the next day. The man who came immediately started noticing all the mistakes that were left by the original FOUR people who were here. They did not replace the wax liner in one of the upstairs toilets and in fact left it entirely off the hook - I was purposely not using that bathroom because I was concerned something was wrong, and as soon as he flushed it, water once again came from the ceiling in the downstairs. This was also the cause of a smell I was experiencing in the other upstairs bathroom.  Then as he told me to watch the pipe to ensure no new leakage happened after he fixed it, I told him I did in fact see more water coming through. He then got a ladder to look, and said discovered that the time the original four people were here, they actually put a hole in the pipe with all their snaking attempts. A HOLE. IN THE PIPE. Something that could have been caught at any point if they had done their due diligence and tested everything, reattached the toilet, gone through just the basic steps.  The man, now the fifth person who had been to my home, said he couldn't repair the pipe because he didn't have the supplies, but that he would come back on Monday. This was also the day the reconstruction was supposed to begin, so I had to work with them to push closing up the hole in the ceiling back a day. Monday came, and he didnt show and did not answer my call, and when I called the office the second time to confirm he was still in fact coming, they said no he wasn't, maybe they could reschedule tomorrow. That would be completely unacceptable with the repair job already being pushed back, and after advocating for myself, I pushed that they please send someone that day, but not anyone from the original crew who came, because clearly they already left my house worse off than when I started.  They ended up sending three other guys later that day, one of which was from the original group, and it was clear they were all frustrated and annoyed with me/the situation while they were here.  To me, if you are a business, and you make an egregious error and completely continue to string along a customer, you should be rushing to make it right and apologize and going above and beyond to make it right. The only rush that was ever received was a rush to end the initial work without finishing correctly the first time and being extra quick to write me a large bill then as well.  This is my home, and my life that has been disrupted, and Jim Bennett Plumbing is not a company I would ever want someone to entrust these important items to. During an already stressful and traumatic experience, they amplified those aspects and made it so much worse. I keep thinking, after 2 months of living in a construction zone, what if we had sealed everything back up and replaced all damaged items, and then with a hole in the pipe this would have happened all over again? read more

This company was there when I needed them in an emergency, they met another company to disconnect fixtures, the guys were on time and nice as could be! They re-piped my house at a fair price and in a timely fashion! I can't wait for them to come reconnect when all the remodeling is done! read more

The service that I received was half baked, they came out 4 times over the course of three weeks and made no progress. They switched my hot and cold water and insisted that it could not be remedied unless they tore through my wall and redid the pipes. They were poor in communication , gave me conflicting information and didn't call me back on multiple occasions. They abandoned my appointment and left holes in my ceiling. Would not recommend and will never be doing business with them again. read more

Jim Bennett has completed several plumbing projects at my home. They have done everything from a simple leaky faucet to a major slab leak. I have never experienced any issues with the. They come out promptly, diagnose the problem accurately, their staff are always courteous, their prices are reasonable, and they fix it right the first time. This company was sent out to my place of business to do some work. First, they were nearly half an hour late. Then, because my manager wasn't there when they arrived, one technician began to raise his voice and belittle me because I am a woman. He was doing all of this from inside his truck and with a cigarette hanging from his lips. This is a professional public forum, so I will not add emotions to this post, but I can tell you that their belligerent behavior shook me to my very core and I wasn't recovered for a couple days after. We live in Crawfordville and bought our counter tops, sink and disposal from Home Depot including removal of everything and installation of the new items. Bobby the plumber is professional, courteous, an amazingly skilled plumber and did a fantastic job. The only problem was that they would not give us a real appointment time so I took time off work and waited. They kept saying he would come by after his work in Tallahassee was done but we didn't know what time that would be. He came at 6 pm and didn't leave till 9 pm. Another day he came at 8 pm. It was unusual and I felt like I'd rather have him come in the morning than at night but since we don't live in Tallahassee, we weren't given a choice. Every time I called over a 4 day span they would only say- don't worry he'll be there. He did a great job but a real appointment choice would have been better customer service. read more

Tallahassee, FL: A quick review for an efficient company. Set up an appointment for a garbage disposal issue and Kirby arrived right around 10:00 am (my appointment range was from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm). Within an hour and a half - Kirby had to go and get a new garbage disposal as there wasn't one on his truck - I had a brand new disposal installed for little more than the price of a disposal you'd get at Home Depot. Kudos to Kirby and an easy to work with company. read more

Called for an estimate for a water heater installation. Kris told me it would be approx $300 for plumbing work and $400 for electrical work. The actual guy who was gonna give me an exact estimate was named Tyris and he called me at the time he was suppossed to be there and told me he's a little late, but on his way. One hour later I had to leave, my lunch break was WAY over. He didn't show. Called him 3 times to tell him to cancel the estimate, (at least I follow up) the third call he finally answered, and told me he didn't need to come by, and he could give an estimate over the phone. $300 for plumbing (same) and $700 for electrical ($300 more than what Kris Estimated!) He also said the tankless 17kwh water heater would be $799. The one I wanted was a EcoSmart 27kwh for $599. ($200 less and more powerful!) In short, I never got an estimate in person, and the estimate I DID get from the was over the phone, $500 more than originally estimated, AND included a water heater I didn't want. Why the f*** Home Depot recommends them is beyond me. If Home Depot won't contract another installer, they'll lose my business. (Update: the next day Jim Bennett himself called me 5 times in a row, then took it upon himself to just show up at my house uninvited at 6pm, ringing the door bell, freaking out my dogs, and waking up my newborn daughter from her nap. They just keep digging the hole deeper...) At this point, a new water heater got pushed back down my to-do list. And when I do want a new water heater, I'll buy it from Lowe's and install it myself. read more

SAVE YOURSELF FROM THIS COMPANY. I promise please let this be the only review you read... we have been dealing with a leaky faucet for a year. A YEAR. How long does it take to fix a leaky faucet??? Every single time, a plumber would come out and do the EXACT same thing, say how the other plumber did it wrong, promised the problem would be solved, only for it to leak a month later. We have had literally over 8 plumbers come to our house. They ALWAYS run late, sometimes don't show, are disrespectful, never do the job right because someone always has to come back and fix their incompetencies. They've come with the wrong part before and had to waste my time going out and getting a different one when I have been very clear. Their business model is to be so bad you have to keep calling and calling for more plumbers. They also just never communicate, I have no idea when they're supposed to come back, if the job is done, nothing. Now, we have no shower because the job was so bad the shower on the other side is affected. And then one plumber yelled at my roommate and the guy who fixed what the plumber didn't do. I called to inquire about adding a sink to my laundry room. I own a home that was made by Advanced Builders (a company owned b y Jim Bennett). I just wanted them to add the water line split and cut the drain in. They scheduled me in for Thursday afternoon. The guy was a no show. I called after waiting about an hour and he said he was stuck on an emergency (dispatch said he was unloading toilets) and could come now. I said my lunch hour is way over. He promised he would come that evening at 4:30. My wife would meet him. No show again. I got a hold of him and he said he was very sorry and promised up and down that he'd be there Friday evening ... no show again!!! Every time we spoke it was me who called. Thanks Jim Bennett! Called them to install a gas dryer and the guys who did it were great. More than i wanted to pay but that's how it goes. I had a problem with leaking faucets while connecting the washer up and the guys that came out resolved the problem in minutes. No charge. All's good so I called them for a problem we're having with our drains. Unfortunately this guy didn't resolve anything and I still had to pay $90. The frustrating part is they're suggesting that I have them dig up my main drain and install a clean out, to the tune of $550. If I had confidence that this was the best solution I wouldn't be complaining. Turns out, however, that they could probably just snake the problem away.. Except that they don't allow their guys onto roofs because someone fell off at some point. So I have to pay all that money so they don't have to climb onto my roof. Next plumber, please. read more

I have to admit that I had a lot of problems with my initial service with Jim Bennett - work not done correctly, work area left a mess, their installer wrecked our brand new electric stove, told us they knew how to do stuff they didn't....BUT!!!! after contacting their office regarding these issues, Jim Bennett himself made a personal visit to our house to apologize for his crew and make amends. He was truly mortified by the work that had his name behind it. He is working diligently with us to "make it all right" and has earned my respect in doing this. Yes, the work was done incorrectly, but to make a personal effort to fix it shows great character and concern for his business. My stove is being replaced at their expense and we are still working out the other issues, but it's on the right track. read more

I went to Home Depot after receiving a SKY HIGH quote from McNeil plumbing to install a new hot water heater. They referred me to Jim Bennett's. I received an email and called them. Tyrus came out, inspected my existing unit, and gave me a reasonable estimate. THE NEXT DAY, Robert and James came, spoke with me and installed the unit. Everyone was pleasant, professional, knowledgeable and even cleaned up after themselves!! They provided verbal and written instructions and gave us several helpful tips. I normally don't post reviews - even with a bad experience I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But I don't want anyone else going through what we have. We finally got Jim Bennett's plumbing to come out to work on fixing the pipe in the kitchen. They were originally supposed to give us an estimate to send to our insurance but they came out to to fix it. We decided to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed since we haven't been able to use our sink or our dishwasher since the hurricane in October. They "fixed it" and left and we ran the dishwasher and heard water outside and when we looked it was leaking worse than it was the first time. The owner called and apologized and promised to make it right and also told us that he is a licensed contractor and that he could fix all the damage. We scheduled a time for the owner to come out to give us an estimate for all the work. The day Mr. Bennett was scheduled to come out, both my husband and I left work to ensure there was no miscommunication. We didn't get a phone call and he didn't show. Two days later we finally got a hold of him and he said he would send someone out (no apology or explanation of what happened). The following week they came out ready to work and not give us an estimate. There was apparently some miscommunication. We gave them one more chance and met Mr. Bennett at the house on Feb 27th. He wrote everything down and told us he could get everything fixed for us and would get us an estimate for our insurance ASAP since it would be 15k-20k to repair everything. That following Tuesday we still had no estimate and began calling every day. My husband finally got a hold of Mr. Bennett today and he promised the estimate by the end of the day. He also mentioned an estimate about 10k less than he originally mentioned. At which point my husband had to remind him all the items to be fixed (that he had already supposedly written down for us). And he never did send the promised estimate. At this point we will need to start from the beginning all over again and fortunately have a contractor who is taking care of us. We still can't use our sink or dishwasher since October and we are really not happy with Jim Bennett's plumbing. I have also called twice now to obtain a copy of their general liability policy for our insurance company and have not received a call back. I didn't want to complain about a local company but at this point we are beyond disappointed and won't be working with them in the future. read more

I wouldn't use Jim Bennett's plumbing if they were the last plumber on earth! We were rebuilding our house from and fire. We had a contract with Jim Bennett's Plumbing. Jim Bennett constantly complains, as if paying him isn't enough. He said he wouldn't finish the job without charging $1200 more. Then they 'completed' only one of the three bathrooms they were under contract for, installed only 2 of the four exterior water spigot, none of which were the frost free spigots I personally bought. Then they left the temporary exterior water supply exposed to the elements rather than taking it through the foundation. Nothing that we paid Jim Bennett's Plumbing for was done right, well, and timely. Definitely not a trustworthy or reliable company and we had to hire others to clean up and finish their mess. I'm disappointed to have to click on a one star rating. Still too high. Did I mention they did this all while under contract. read more

This is an absolutely awful company. We have had them out probably 6-7 times in the past few of months - each time to fix the SAME problem. Each time they claim it is fixed, until the pipe starts leaking again within the next couple of weeks. If this had happened once, it would've been okay. NOPE, more than 6 times. Never an apology, never an explanation. Today they came out to fix a leaking shower. Lo and behold, after he left, not only is the shower still broken, NEITHER of our showers work now. I don't even know how that possible. We also called to let them know we need this fixed NOW, the man on the other end had no customer service skills. He did not give any kind of apology, just said "its gonna be a couple hours until i can get out there." Now all our evening responsibilities are cancelled, and instead of one broken shower we have two. Incredibly rude, incredibly inept at their jobs. This company NEEDS to go out of business. We received a consult about a shower/bathtub renovation. Was told that it would take about a week to complete the job even with the custom glass for the shower. They informed us that they contract out the work but they work between the hours of 8-5. After the demolition was complete on Monday, the tiler did not show up until 4pm and stayed until 7pm on Tuesday. He came back again at 5pm and stayed until about 9pm on Wednesday. Additionally, tiler used broken tiles when non-broken tiles were left over. On Thursday, the workers that were going to install the glass shower came to measure and then advised that it would take 10-14 business to get the glass. I understand that construction jobs do go over the timeline, however, we were completely lied to about the timeline. If we were told up front that it would take 10-14 business days to receive the glass after the tiling was completed, this would be a completely different story. Three weeks after the start of our "one week" project - the glass was installed. Was told that someone was going to come after the glass the installed to clean up - however, no one has shown up or even attempted to verify how the job was completed. Would not recommend Jim Bennett to do a renovation for anyone. Overall Jim Bennett offers a lack of communication and lack of supervision with his customers and his contractors. read more

Been using this plumbing service since 1997. Called out to replace electrical box that powered the grinder pump. The pump and system were working fine. Somehow I wound up paying for a new pump and really didn't understand why. System then failed on three different occasions. Kept getting charges. Meet with the owner, who insulted my relationship with my spouse, so we walked out. Now in December 2013, the pimp failed again. When the truck pumped the water out of the tank, I had three plumbers from 2 different companies on hand. We all saw why the pump failed, as they threw in the electrical lines in the tank. So the lines all melted from the water. So disappointed in this company as I referred them to other people all the time as was always happy with their price and service. Jim Bennett was contracted by American Home Shield to repair and/or replace my water heater. It was determined that a replacement was needed. They called (Friday before Christmas) to say that they had the water heater delivered and could come out to install. I said absolutely. Long story short, they installed a defective used unit. Top element had no continuity. I went to Home Depot, purchased a new element and installed the god damn thing myself. Clearly the water heater was used. The top element I removed had significant mineral deposits as well as being blown out. I HAVE THE OLD ELEMENT AND THE PICTURES YOU LYING B*******!!! Had I not gone to Home Depot and purchased the new element I would have spent at least 5 days without hot water with a house full of family and friends. Tried to call them. No answer and no answering service. I was basically, f***** for the whole Holiday weekend. I will be reporting this experience to my home warranty in hopes that they END THEIR CONTRACT with them. I read also, that Home Depot recommends them. I will be speaking to their management as well. I will be leaving reviews on Angie's list and the BBB. THIS IS FRAUD JIM BENNET'S PLUMBING!!!! read more

called to have a shower pan installed. had to break apart old drain, they left all the pieces on the floor. also spilled glue on floor and made no effort to clean this up either. their van leaked oil on my driveway, again no effort to clean up. i paid them to put in a new shower valve. they took my old one with them without asking. would have liked the cartridge for a backup for my other shower. then shower pan leaked and i had to spend all morning the next day getting it redone. when i got the bill the price was almost twice the $400 i was quoted. worst experience ever. will never call again. read more
