Ahhh I'm OBSESSEDDD with how our wedding photos turned out!! Our photographer, Cheryl, did the most incredibleeee job with our photos! Even with the lighting issues we had (our ceremony occurred at a bright time and the reception venue was having issues with a bright building security light they couldn't turn off) and she and her team still found a way to make our photos stunning!! Not only was she and her team extremely good at their jobs and quick (and they delivered sneak peaks photos back within just 1 week!!), but they were sooo wonderful to work with. I was stressed before she arrived while we were getting ready since we were running behind, but Cheryl had such a calming, positive, yet go-getter energy that made me feel like everything was going to be okay and that we would get all of the shots we wanted - and she did!! From our initial meeting to all the emails leading up to our special day, Amber was responsive, professional, personable, and fun! She really listened to what we wanted to capture, all the special moments with our family and friends, and all the candid moments on the dance floor. She completely understood what we wanted. We had a really long day... we started with a first look, pre-ceremony photos with family and the wedding party, ceremony (Catholic Mass), private photos throughout our venue with just the bride and groom, and then reception. My wonderful wedding planner booked with JKP and assured me they were amazing to work with. I was a little nervous as I booked an all inclusive planning package (wedding planning is completely overwhelming to me so I turned it over to a professional), so approved but did not necessarily select my individual vendors. We were lucky enough to have Megan as our wedding photographer and I am one extremely happy bride-to-be!!! Phenomenal quality and service!! Megan is down-to-earth, calm, centered, grounded, and kind. She just got married herself and definitively made me feel like my wedding was special and important. My fiance and I met with her for an hour to get to know her and look at her work before we finalized all the plans. Her photographs were gorgeous - crisp, clean, fresh, and beautiful. Exactly the way I want my wedding pics to look. We just shot our engagement photos and I was worried because it was cloudy and sort of gloomy but she assured me that the pics would turn out great and we could re-shoot if we needed (we don't but nice to have that level of confidence!). We shot down at Treasure Island in Laguna (her recommendation) and it was the perfect spot. Lots of great backgrounds so there was variety. I had a little Pintrist board I showed her and all the ideas I found for engagement shots were integrated into the shoot. We were able to bring my dog Madaline and she was even great in terms of organizing the dog for poses. She was totally in control and gave us easy cues to follow. Cheryl photographed our wedding in January 2019 and I couldn't have imagined a better experience. We had a destination wedding in Jalisco, Mexico on Lake Chapala. The rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception were all at different locations - Cheryl did her research, came prepared, and talked through options for how we could make everything work best logistically for photos while honoring the private times we wanted to have as well. I was so happy that Cheryl could travel to be at our destination - her and Jon did an amazing job and captured the moments beautifully. A few things that stood out - Cheryl and I had a planning phone call in advance where we talked about logistics, important things for day-of, and I shared what kind of photos I thought I would cherish most. Our wedding was on 8/17/19 at the Surf and Sand in Laguna Beach, Ca. We worked with Amber and Cheryl and these ladies were so sweet, professional and calm throughout the day...all qualities that are so helpful during a wedding day! My only regret is not hiring them for the entire night!! They knew the venue well and knew exactly which pictures to take, the best lighting and the best locations/spots. Yikes - it took me awhile to write this review. Not sure where any bad reviews came from - I went with my gut instinct on this photography group which was the first I had interviewed. I was very impressed with their blog and all of the photographers work, but specifically I was keen on wanting some great contrasts in the photos. From the beginning, Jim (the owner) was extremely helpful and kind in responding to all of the questions that I had. Out of the wedding vendors that I had, this was my favorite vendor to work with. This is the review for Cheryl and Kristin. Kristin is a very sweet and kind person with who took our engagement photos in December - the lighting in the photos was gorgeous with beautiful variances of color, contrast and sharpness. Cheryl's passion, loving eye for detail, patience, and skill in maneuvering such a large family in photos was amazing. During the wedding both Cheryl and Kristin captured some really cute and emotional pictures throughout the day which we were so glad to see our family's faces in the photos. Both sides of our families thought they both did such a great job in capturing the day. My now hubby and I really adore these professional photographers. They were so kind, professional and so great at what they do. My husband really appreciated the detailed instructions on how to stand, what to do with his face, hands and where to look as he was a bit camera shy at times. During the entire 10 hour work event, they were both so patient and even thoughtfully asked us about taking group pictures which I forgot absolutely everything during the wedding. We received almost 1500 photos back which was amazing and also highlighted a lot of our family members throughout the day. Communication and the speed of when they delivered the photos to us was wonderful - as I have often heard with other photographers it would take awhile longer than expected. Also, with interviewing and speaking to so many vendors, Jim Kennedy Photography group is very well known. They did my wedding in August 2009 and they did a wonderful job!!! The photographers were really sweet and at the reception they don't bother you saying "Stand here are pose with this person" they take shots of moments and capture happy faces and people dancing. There are so many great shots in the 4000 pictures take. Stephanie was our main photographer and she was really sweet! She did our engagement photos as well and they came out beautiful! It took a while for the pictures to be sent to me, but once they were I got a rough draft that they put together for our wedding album. I can go through and change any photo I would like, but it helps me by giving me a start to our wedding album. They save the pictures on a file so I can go back at anytime and reorder. Value for performance I can assure anyone reading this that you're searching for the perfect photography group has ended. I myself am a headshot photographer and have worked with a good amount of working headshot, commercial, and food photographers. So when I look through other people's portfolios my instant reaction is, could I do it better. And when I'd seen Jim Kennedy's, and the photographers he worked with, I crossed my fingers and hoped it wouldn't be insanely expensive, and to my surprise, it was not. I know the average person sees wedding photographer prices and they wonder why they'd ever pay that, but I assure you, having been in or around a hundred weddings, having shot them begrudging myself, pay the most for the photographer. Because the cake, the flowers, the filet of fish and whatever else won't matter the next day, or the next year or the next decade. But good pictures will matter. Save money by skipping a videographer, you can get one but I promise you'll spend X amount, watch the video when you get it, share it, and then throw it in a draw. But the pictures will be with you, and you'll see them daily. Okay, on to our session. Or engagement shoot with Amber was perfect. I've been around cameras for some time and my now wife generally dislikes them and doesn't look natural for them. Amber was perfect, working with us to get everything we needed for an engagement shoot within an hour or so. And not just what we needed, pictures we love that is my cell phone lock screen and pictures in our house. Then came the wedding, or what was supposed to be before 2020 wrecking balled it. I called Jim Kennedy when our wedding was canceled and he said this isn't an issue, and honestly, it wasn't. If you don't know a photographer can easily say, I was booked on this date, you changed it, I can't fill it with another client so, sorry. He said, what can I do to help. We set up or now a mini 30-minute wedding instead of our 8 hours ordeal (pushed back) and Amber showed up and in my opinion, worked the daylights out of her camera and got amazing shots. We had a church wedding. Then we didn't, we got moved to the front yard, then moved to a small courtyard at high noon with wood awnings that cast zebra shadows on everyone. So, seeing that, my expectations were not high. Then, we had masks, also news to us. And yet, we love our pictures. Mask, no mask, whatever. We love them. As a photographer myself, she's significantly better than me and most everyone I know, and that's why I can't thank her enough and am so happy to have worked with her and Jim Kennedy Photographers. I have great hope our larger postponed wedding will be as we (my wife) imagines it. But if it's not, and it's for some reason next to a dumpster behind an I Hop, I still think they could pull out amazing photos. One's I look at and smile on a daily basis. Jim Kennedy and his team were the best photographers we could have asked for on our wedding day, and I can't recommend them enough. The initial call with Jim was very casual yet professional. He provided plenty of information upfront, and had an answer for everyone of our questions. Pricing was clear and transparent, and we left the call feeling like we knew everything that we needed. Jim has a very professional quote and service agreement signing process that was fully digital (we never met Jim in person, actually), and he operated with very quick turnaround on getting us locked in for our wedding. Then came the big day... Amber and her assistant Ashleigh were 100% perfect and executed at an incredible level. They showed up on time, communicated very clearly before, during, after, etc, and even helped communicate between my soon to be bride and I on some completely non-photography issues that popped up. They came early to bride/groom for the prep shots, and basically felt like part of the wedding party. Great candids and staged shots. At the ceremony, we barely noticed them, which is actually a great thing if you've ever been to a wedding where the photogs are tramping all over the place and become a major distraction. Despite hardly seeing or hearing them, they managed to capture some amazing shots of the most important parts of the ceremony. Once we hit cocktail hour, their professionalism hit peak form. We got married on 3/23/2019 in Fullerton, CA. Cheryl and Amber arrived on time and started shooting immediately. We had amazing times with them whether we noticed them or not (sometimes you're not supposed to notice them). The photos came out FANTASTIC. I loved the intimate shots we had had with Cheryl. There were some photos that I didn't know were being taken, and I loved those so much as they portrayed our real selves. I cannot even begin to explain with how thrilled our experience was with JKP. We worked with Megan on both our engagement photos and our wedding day, and with Kristin as our second shooter at our wedding. Both ladies rocked our wedding day, and we were so blown away with the images that we got back! Working with Megan in particular was just the best situation we could have asked for. Myself, my husband, and even our friends and family are still raving to this day about how incredible she is! She was so unbelievably awesome on the our wedding day, making sure to capture every moment - both the requested images that we had put in our photography list and candids. Whenever our guests pulled out their cameras to snap an off-the-cuff moment, Megan was right there to capture it as well. She was even so great with our flower girls and our dog, getting them to pose and look at the camera. She was so quick and efficient all day, and so accommodating of me, holding my veil and bouquet when needed while we did our wedding party and romantics photos. The images that we got back are so incredible, and beyond our expectations! We cannot believe how beautifully they captured our special day, and the attention to detail that they went into making sure every special moment and special attribute (from the sentimental decor that we brought in to capturing the breathtaking canopy and view) was caught. When I sent in a request to rush a few photos for an ill family member, Megan turned them around within a couple of hours and sent some to us to print out to decorate their hospital room with. He is prompt, professional, and makes sure that the bride and groom are getting the shots they want. He kept the timeline moving and had excellent suggestions for where to shoot for the best photos. We snuck off before our cocktail hour for sunset photos and the result is stunning. My family and I love using Megan as our photographer. She is so easy to work with and makes everyone feel comfortable. We had our first shoot when I was well into my pregnancy, and Megan was incredibly patient and well-versed in how to time the shots to compliment the perfect natural lighting. Even with swollen pregnancy feet, she was able to stage the shots to produce a final product anyone would be proud to hang over their mantel. Once our baby was born, we knew we needed Megan to come to our home and photograph him while he was still so tiny. She worked effortlessly with our brand-new baby and took such care as she wrapped him in swaddles. She has such a natural bond with babies, and it showed with our first born of less than one week old. We were so comfortable the entire session as she crafted the shots. When he needed to nurse or a diaper change, Megan allowed us to figure it out as new parents without any added pressure or stress. We had ideas regarding staging our son with my husband's first guitar and Megan brought these visions to life better than we could have imagined. Then, when our little boy turned one, we wanted a special family photoshoot. Megan met us at dusk and took the most beautiful photos. Thank you to Jim Kennedy Photographers for capturing our special day! I am a very camera-shy (I'd even say camera-awkward) person by nature, but Jim and his assistant Lauren made me feel immediately comfortable and excited about documenting the big day. From the minute they walked in, I knew I had made the right choice when hiring a wedding photographer. We had had a few brief conversations in the lead-up, and during that time, he immediately understood what we were looking for - nothing overly stylized or dramatic, but definitely special shots of a special day. After that, there was no need for a reminder or overly planned out shot-sheet, Jim had it down! Jim's familiarity with the venue and expertise with shooting weddings were invaluable. We went to one courtyard for the "first look," and lo-and-behold, there was actually another bridal party already there. Without missing a beat, Jim switched gears, called Lauren -- who was with the groom -- and rearranged it for a different gorgeous indoor setting on property. They were also on point in getting smiles from our adorable but stubborn 3-year-old participants: a feverish flower girl and a distracted ring bearer. Within a day of the ceremony, Jim had put up a couple of sneak peeks to social media, and we are SO excited for the rest. He posted one of our first kiss from the officiant's view, and as another testament to JKP's abilities, I didn't even notice that Jim had snuck up there! Throughout the entire day and evening, he and Lauren were unbelievably efficient and professional. Jim was able to get a beautiful range of posed shots before and after the ceremony, but he made sure we missed as little of the party as possible. Somehow, we never once felt rushed or panicked, and I don't know how he struck that balance, but he did, and we couldn't be happier. While shooting candids inside the reception, Jim and Lauren managed to seemingly cover everything and everyone, without ever feeling intrusive or interfering with the flow of the party. I hired them to do our wedding this month and as of today, 4 weeks later, we have not seen one picture. After we paid them, we seem to keep getting empty promises. I haven't formally complained to them yet but I'm getting there. I'll update this as the process goes. For the day of, they did show up and they did take pictures. We missed a lot of shots that I wish we were able to get. I wish there were some pictures of me and my dad. Of course, if they did take it without me seeing them, then....I just have seen any pictures yet. I just hope they got some important moments.....like I said, I will continue updating and I really hope I can give them more stars as we go. read more
