Jim Olson is an honest owner/ mechanic! I was told by another shop to drive my van to the junkyard because it needed a new transmission! I took it to Jim Olson in Harvard for a second option!! He said I don't have a magic ball but I believe all you need to do is change the transmission pan, flush it and I can tell you my van HAS never driven better!! I WILL always take. Owner Jim isn't willing to honor or fix what was done to a my car, he will gladly fix whats not in paperwork, but what has orange peel and paint blend done, no work is getting fixed. Mind you it was an insurance claim. I was absolutely disgusting with the lack of professionalism. As well as stupidity of the owner. I took my 2007 Pontiac solstice to Bill Olson at Cary auto body (which is owned by Jim Olson) to get the door fixed after someone tried to break into my car. The handle was broken and the door dented and scratched. During the estimate, he didn't see the scratch so the estimate was wrong. State Farm found the scratch thankfully so it was added to be fixed. It was $800 to get the door repainted and the door handle fixed. I came to pick it up and there was rubbing compound all over the edge of the door and then peeling of the clear coat on the edges as well. He agreed to take it back and fix it and then I came a second time to pick it up and there was STILL peeling. He then proceeded to tell me it was my fault and it was because of something on the car prior, when there was ZERO peeling EVER on the car because I only hand wash it so I know every inch of that car. And he continued to tell me it would be $5k to fix since the whole car would have to be clear coated and the door would have to be completely repainted. He refused to fix it and stuck to his story that it was my fault. I think he thought I was a dumb girl who would just believe it and go away. Unfortunately since it wasn't a State Farm certified place (I know why they aren't now, it's for a good reason), there was nothing I could do. I did proceed to contact the owner (Jim Olson) and he agreed to fix it up at this location. Jim Olson even said, "there should be no peeling at all after a paint job." However, he gave me back the car with PEELING and said "there's nothing else I can do" when I confronted them about it and he wouldn't even look at it or talk to me about it. If an auto body shop cannot paint a car without causing peeling and/or fix prior peeling, then they should not be an auto body shop. This place is a total scam and they do not have a moral compass so stay away! They used to do great work and my family has spent a ton of money in the past here and now they are total con artists. If they are willing to do this to long term and loyal customers, who have spent probably close to $25k between all the business we've given them, then they will do it to anyone! I paid $800 for them to make my car peel, I would rather have the broken door handle!! I am so unimpressed with this place that I felt compelled to write a review. I received no contact from these people. They never had a written contract. They had verbal authorization from my insurance company and me to do work. When I picked up the car they charged me 6000 in extras with no authorization from me. When I addressed this with them they called me a liar. I paid them with a credit card. After they ran the charge they then told me about a 3% credit card sur- charge. When I addressed this they told me that was my problem. I am now left with no option but to take them to small claims court to get back my 753 dollars. Go anywhere else. I talked to a younger boy who would be working on my truck and told him all the problems i was having with my truck. At that time I was assured that the truck would be repaired within the week. On May 22 I was told the truck was ready. I had an alignment done, 2 new tires, outer tie rods, and the drivers side u-joint replaced. When I picked up the truck that morning I noticed my ABS sensor was reading wrong as well as my TBC fault. I was told by the boy who worked on my truck that the sensors were wrong due to moisture build up from being outside. However, when I inspected my tire I noticed my ABS line was cut. I pointed that out to the boy who didn't have much to say about that. My TBC module was fried somehow. I later found out that the boy who helped do most of the work on my truck was a shop boy. Not a licensed mechanic. I brought this to the attention of a real mechanic there and they fixed the cut wire for free. I then took the truck with me after clearing my bill with the company. I made it down the road to the gas station only to realize that it had to be taken straight back there. Somehow my alignment was messed up so badly that my front passenger tire was 3 degrees in at the top, making the tire completely lopsided. When I arrived back at the shop, the mechanic who did my alignment tried to tell me it was an optical illusion due to the fact that I wasn't used to the alignment looking "normal". I told him there was no way at all that the tire was supposed to sit like that. Jim Olson, the owner, then came out and measured the alignment using a special race car alignment checker. He could tell right away it was completely off and ordered the alignment to be redone free of charge. The mechanic then test drove it and when he returned he informed me that it shook a little when driving, but that was because they did not rotate my new tires to the front. He informed me to take it home and rotate them myself and that should fix the problem. However, once again, Mr. Olson ordered his employee to fix it himself. I then took the truck home on May 27 only to realize that the main problem we brought it in for was completely overlooked. When I brought this to the attention of the head mechanic, he said they would take another look seeing as how the shop boy I told the issues to did not relay the correct information. So today, May 28 2015 I went in to talk about the overlooked repair. The shop told me that I would have to pay an extra 800$ for them to fix the steering gear box. At this point I was fed up and took my truck to another reputable mechanic. There I was told that it was not my steering gear box, and that when Jim Olsons fixed my u-joint they did not properly redo the seals for the u-joint and the axle and they completely looked over my other u-joint which was in worse shape. I do have this and the cut wire photographed. I then went back to Jim Olsons to tell him what I had found out and that I felt the job I paid 1400$ for was poorly done. Mr Jim Olson then proceeded to start cursing and yelling at me in the parking lot in front of his shop calling me a liar. He was trying to get me to hit him by getting up in my face and insulting me. He also tried to illicit a physical response out of me by pushing me. Mind you my family was 15 feet away in our car watching and listening to him verbally abuse me. He then accused me of treating my family terribly in front of my family and his employees. My threel year old daughter had to witness this all and when I asked him to watch his language in front of my child he then told me and my family to eff off. I did make a police report of him getting physical with me. So please whatever you do, DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT take your vehicle to this shop. They are rude and snotty. And you will waste half the money you pay them. read more

so, an update to our experience with Jim Olson. They replaced top end of our engine on July 15th. 3 weeks later the engine started to knock. We called them and they said it's not their problem. We would call them twice a week advising that something is wrong with the engine - they kept denying it was their problem. September 13th the engine blew up. Jim Olson's refuses to fix per their warranty. They wanted to put a junkyard engine in the truck but then wanted me to sign a waiver that after this was done they would not be legally responsible for whatever happens and they are going to void all warranties already in place. When I refused to sign that they refused to fix our truck. STAY FAR AWAY from this business. They will lie to you and when you complain or find things out of place they'll call you a liar and deny any wrongdoing. read more

Our daughter was in an accident on her way back to college on a Sunday afternoon. Her truck was towed by Jimmy's to Jim Olson Collision (same owners) after being told by the Harvard Police that it was not driveable. The next day, we were told there was nothing mechanically wrong with her vehicle and we could come pick it up. When we got there on Monday afternoon, we were greeted with a $400 bill - $170 to tow it less than one mile, $130 in storage fees and $100 for labor and administration fees. $400 for them to tow a driveable car one mile, let it sit in a garage bay overnight and to look at it and tell us it was ok to drive. When we questioned the charges, they told us the HPD sets the fees. When I called the HPD, they could not give me any information stating fees for towing or storage. I would highly recommend you look for another towing company, not have mechanical work or any body work done by a business owned by Jim Olson in Harvard or Woodstock IL.
