After nightmare concrete construction problems I needed to get a big chunk of stucco replaced that was cracked off. Fearful that it might be a big problem to fix, I had Jim swing by and said sure no problem easy fix! He was done and my hole was fixed in probably less than 20 mins!? I called Jim to repair damaged stucco created by an old Trex deck that was attached to the house and installed below grade. In September 2017 I needed help locating a water leak in an exterior 2-story stucco wall and I called 3 contractors to get bids. One contractor called me back immediately and told me he was booked for 6+ months and that he'd only do the job if we had him re-paper and re-stucco the entire wall as well as replace the 2 windows that were in the same wall. the estimate was astronomical! The second contractor never called back. And then there was Jim Styles... Jim was the 3rd contractor I called. We played phone tag initially to arrange for him to meet me at the house. He came out and gave me a reasonable estimate. He came back about a week later, performed some exterior water testing to help recreate the leak, tore out the existing stucco and located 2 holes in the underlying paper. He added new paper, did another water test and the leak was gone! Jim quickly re-stucco'd over the new paper and he did a great job matching the texture. Completely unreliable to show up for appointment times for the job hired to do. Day of work that was agree upon, for 9am appt, Jim says " I got a flat tire". I say, Ok can you come later in day? Around 2pm he text can't make it. Ok can you make it at 9am the next day. Jim stated, yes he can. 9am the next day arrives, I get a text at 0930 hrs. Jim text running late can't make it at 9. Ok so we agree on 12 noon for same day. 1232p arrives and he's still not here, nor courtesy text or call. I needed some stucco repair/new work on my empty rental home and I called several contractors I found through google based on their high reviews. I received a call back from 3, all who said they would visit the property and call me back, Jim was the only one who did. I had followed up with one of the others who had simply said they hadn't had the chance to go there and would let me know when they did. I never did hear from that one again. Jim provided an honest and reasonable estimate so I hired him and I have to say he did an AMAZING job. The job involved removing brick and smoothing cracked stucco that had cracked along the brick on the entire side of the house, in addition to extending new stucco down over where the brick had been. It looked smooth, seamless, and better than I had ever imagined it would! He even redid some small crack repair work that I had previously paid a handyman to do with the thought it was more cost effective that way, obviously I was wrong and should have just had Jim do it because he did a WAY better job and his price was the same if not better than the half ass handyman work I had previously gotten. This is a review I am so pleased to write. I researched Yelp for recommendations for a plasterer and narrowed my search down to two. Jim Stiles returned my call and actually showed up to estimate my repairs. I have been doing battle with a leaking roof since last winter and once the roofers were done with their part, the stucco at points along the roof line required patching. Jim gave me a quote and began his work only to uncover an even more daunting issue. He could have easily covered up the damage, collected his money and been off. Instead he pointed out the area of concern and worked with my contractor to assist in a more effective solution. Jim will keep in touch if he's running late. He returns calls as soon as he can. His estimates are reasonable and he cares about the quality of his work. He cleans up after himself. He's a one man band so you may have to wait for an opening in his schedule, but it's worth it. Also, at some point previous owners had re-textured this side of the house in a very unattractive texture that didn't match the rest of the house or the neighborhood. I wish I could give this guy the zero stars he well deserves. I am in the process of doing repairs on my house to get it ready for sale. I called this guy two months ago and left him a message. It took him a week to call back to tell me he was too busy to return my call earlier. Okay, I let it slide. I immediately returned the message Jim left, but I had to wait another three days before he called back. Again, he left a message. I called him back within minutes and, of course, he did not answer. I didn't hear from him again. But, because of his good reviews here on yelp, I gave it another shot about three weeks after I last heard from him. Miracle: he actually answered the phone. When I reminded him that I had been calling him for weeks, he agreed to come to my house the following day. He told me he would call me back later to let me know if he was going to come in the morning or the afternoon. Yep, you guessed it: he never called back. That was the last I ever heard of Jim Stiles. This guy represents everything I despise about contractors - flakiness and a complete lack of professionalism. If he had just said he wasn't interested, I could have started looking for someone else sooner.
